Frank Yount, age 92 of Bellingham,
born
February 27, 1912 in Proctor,
Minnesota to Austin and Etha (Stark)
Yount. Frank worked for General
Motors/Detroit Diesel as a manager for
over 29 years.
After he retired from General Motors,
he packed up Jennie, her mother, and
her brother, rented a truck, and moved
to Washington. He loved the beauty of
the area and all that it offered. He
particularly liked to show off this
area and its attractions to visiting
family and out-of-the-area friends.
He has been a member of AARP, RSVP,
Ferndale Bowling League, Men’s Golf
League at Raspberry Ridge.
Frank was preceded in born in Fairdale, North Dakota on
October 29, 1914 to parents Theodore
Melland and Hannah Westby they moved to
Bellingham in 1928.
He graduated from Fairhaven High School
where he was a four year letterman in
football, basketball, baseball and
track. He retired from Northwest Fuel
Company in 1976 after a long career
delivering heating oil to many homes in
Bellingham and Whatcom County. He was
active in the Sons of Norway and sang
in the male chorus, he was also an
active member of St James Presbyterian
Church where he taught Sunday school,
was a deacon, an elder and sang in the
choir.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years,
Dorothy Winslow Melland and six
children, daughters; Marilyn Anderson
and husband Richard, Cheryl Owens,
Beverly Rae and partner Craig O’Hara,
sons; Richard Melland and wife Kathy,
Joe Melland and wife Roxanne, Eric
Melland and wife Michele, brothers Ted
and George Melland and wife Ruthella;
sister Ruth Livermore; twelve
grandchildren, seven great-
grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews. Memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society or the Visiting
Angels. A Memorial Service will be
held 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 15, 2004 at
St. James Presbyterian Church on 14th
St in Bellingham.
Geraldine Ella Goss

Geraldine E. Goss, age 94, longtime
Seattle resident, born March 13,
1910 in Honor, Michigan to Karl and
Jenny (Keating) Smith. She moved to
the Seattle area in 1927, and in 1939
passed away March 5, 2004.
She was death by her
husband Raymond Collins.
Frances is survived by friends Alene
Tomich and Barbara Legoe.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes
Association. No Services will be held.
Vera Violet Caron

Vera Violet Caron, age 102 of
Bellingham, born January 6, 1902 in
Graburn, Saskatchewan, Canada to Samuel
and Mary Anne (Goodall) Auger. In
1926, Vera death by her
husband of 60 years, Harold Caron in
1986.
She is survived by son Harold (Dorothy)
Caron of Ballard; son Roy Caron of
Lynnwood; daughter Myrtle (Pat) Taylor
of Bellingham; daughter Betty Larson of
Abbotsford, BC; and daughter Irma
(Arne) Oien of Marysville. Also
survived by grandchildren: Ron Taylor,
Danny Caron, Miriam Caron, Lyonnie
(Dean) Henshaw, Brian (Jeannie) Caron,
Ken (Wanda) Caron, Doug (Julie) Caron,
Arne Jr. (Molly) Oien, Inger-Lise
(Doug) Porter; and great-grandchildren:
Michael Taylor, Megan (Steve) Caron,
Adam (Trina) Caron, Tracy Caron, Janet
Caron, Jordan Henshaw, Stephanie
Henshaw, Logan Caron, Amber Caron,
Elizebeth Caron, Samantha Caron,

Richard de J Allez
2/19/1912 - 11/2/2003
Richard de J. Allez, age 91 of
Bellingham, born in Seattle,
Washington on Feb. 19, 1912 to George
and Grace Allez. He started school in
Roundup, MT, then moved and attended
school at Denver, CO; Wenatchee, WA;
and Port Townsend, WA. Richard moved
to Bellingham in 1924 and attended
Washington School and Normal Campus
School, graduating from Whatcom High
School, Class of 1930.
Dick was a member of St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church for 62 years, and an
honorary member of St. Paul’s Chancel
Guild. He was also a Life member of
the Musician’s Union, the Elks Club,
and the Yacht Club. Dick worked at
Puget Sound Pulp & Timber, and then at
Georgia Pacific, beginning in 1937, for
40 years.
Dick greatly enjoyed his music, along
with interior painting. He played the
piano at many taverns and public &
private dance clubs, often for a dollar
a day and all the popcorn he could
eat. He was in the Men’s Chorus at the
Senior Center, and spent the last five
years with Art & Pete Houergel’s Dance
Band at local and Ferndale Senior
Centers. Dick is survived by his
Beloved wife, Mickie of 61 years.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s
Organ Fund or the Memorial Garden, or a
charity of your choice. Services will
be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
on Wednesday, November 5th, 2003 at
2:30 PM with Fr. Kevin Allen
officiating.
