Malinda E. Wieser
MAIDEN ROCK - Malinda E. Wieser of La Crescent, Minn., died at home on Thursday, June 4, 1998. She was 80.
She was born on June 19, 1917, in Winona County (Minn.) to Herman and Catherine (Schnedecker) Eden and grew up in rural La Crescent.
She married Al Wieser, Sr., on July 28, 1936, at Crucifixion Church in La Crescent. Together, they farmed in rural La Crescent for many years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 28, 1986, and he died on Dec. 31, 1993. She was a member of Crucifixion Church and for many years active in St. Cecilia's Circle.
She will be remembered for the many birthday cards she never forgot to send to every family member, for her exceptional homemaking skills and for her readiness to play a game of cards.
Her 18 children survive her: Joseph (Mary Buchman) of Maiden Rock, Rosemary (Eugene) Feuerheim of Stoddard, Elaine (Jim) Riehle of Darwin, Minn., Leonard (Joan Johnson), Charles (Joanne Frank), Richard (Sheila Hennessy), Ruth (Gerald) Berns, Al Jr. (Karen Radtke) Edward (Ruth Bolduan), Terry (Mary Beth Olson), Steve (Teresa Turk), Jeff (Andrea Hagel, Brian (Kathy Woelffer), all of La Crescent, Bernie (Mike McCormick) of Caledonia, Minn., Betty (Mark Dokken) of Spring Grove, Minn., Kathy (Duane Undeland) of Aurora, Minn., Patty (Warren Undeland) of Gilbert, Minn., and Sister Linda OSF of Rochester, Minn.
She is also survived by: her 88 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Frank Mader) of La Crescent and Teresa Woodruff of Menomonie Falls; and one brother, Henry Eden of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one sister, Marie Williams; and two brothers, Lawrence and Edward Eden.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 8, at Crucifixion Church, La Crescent, with Msgrs. Donald Grubisch and Richard Speltz officiating. Burial was in Crucifixion Cemetery, La Crescent. Memorials are preferred to Crucifixion School, Houston County (Minn.) Group Homes, Able Inc. and Wieser Memorial Park.

Martha C. Lund, 99
Martha Cornelia (Bjornson) Lund, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the Kinnic Long Term Care facility. She was 99.
She was born Dec. 23, 1898, in the town of El Paso in Pierce County, one of nine children born to Bjorn and Bertha Bjornson. At the time of her birth, her father, "Barney," went to town and told his friends "I got a doll for Christmas!"
She was of the Lutheran faith, and was baptized and confirmed at South Rush River Lutheran Church. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis until her move to a nursing home and transferred her membership to Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls.
She attended beauty school in Minneapolis and was employed by the Dayton Company as a beautician. She married Henry Lund on Aug. 29, 1921, in Minneapolis.
She had a quick and entertaining wit, which was part of her entire life. She lived along after the death of her husband in 1970. She cared for herself until she was 92 when a broken hip required medical attention at a nursing home.
She had been a resident of the Kinnic Long Term Care facility for 5 1/2 years.
Never having children herself, she embraced her nieces and nephews and their children as if they were her own.
Survivors include Walter and Nancy Bjornson of Menomonie; Betty Breitinger of Minneapolis; MaryAnn and Gerald Peterson of Baldwin; Lois and Norris Larson of River Falls; Roger Brander of Vancouver, B.C.; many grand-nieces and nephews and their children; and many distant cousins.
Services were held at Cashman Mortuary on June 9. Burial was in the Fort Snelling Cemetery.
Marilyn R. Rohl, 54
Marilyn Rose Rohl of Hudson, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at the River Falls Area Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was 54.
She was born on March 31, 1944, in Red Wing, Minn., the daughter of Glenn and Mabel (Mehrkens) Nelson. She attended the Morton Corner School and graduated from River Falls High School in 1962.
She married Leo Rohl on Feb. 12, 1966, at St. Bridget Catholic Church.
She worked in the Twin Cities until her first child was born in 1967. She held other odd jobs while raising three children.
She worked on the family farm in the town of Troy until 1993, when she took over Rohl Limestone as co-owner and secretary.
She is survived by her husband, Leo, of Hudson; her daughters, Sandra of Hudson, and Stacy and Justin Bystrom of Ellsworth; four grandchildren, Lowein, Tyson, Winston and Serena Bystrom; a sister, Karen Kielas of River Falls; a brother, Ronald and Linda Nelson of Oakdale, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brian, who died in April of 1981; a sister, Charlene; and both sets of grandparents, Arthur and Nora Nelson, and Arthur and Lily Mehrkens.
Funeral was Tuesday, June 16, at St. Bridget Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating.
Pallbearers were, brothers-in-law Herb, Gerard and Chris Rohl, nephews Forrest Spille and Joshua Hauge, and cousin Paul Dusek.
Russell G. Stockwell
Russell G. Stockwell of Ellsworth died on Saturday, June 6, 1998, at his home. He was 82.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1915, in Pierce County, the son of Leland and Ellen (Crain) Stockwell. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater.
He married Virgie Bolin in January of 1946; she died in 1949. He later married Lila Bowen in July of 1950. She died in 1967. He later married Ethel Myerson Nov. 26, 1969.
He farmed most of his life in Hartland and Salem townships. He also worked for the Pierce County Highway Department for many years.
He loved attending auctions, flea markets and traveling. He and Ethel spent 14 winters in Texas. He was a member of the Bible Center Church and Kinne-Engelhart American Legion Post #204 in Ellsworth.
Survivors include: his wife, Ethel Stockwell of Ellsworth; two daughters, Pat (Tom) Dietzler of Ellsworth and JoAnn (Mike) Farrell of Bay City; three sons, Larry (Sherry) Stockwell of Richfield, Minn., Sam (Lana) Stockwell of Ellsworth and Dan (Natalie) Stockwell of Ellsworth; two sisters, Lorraine (Harold) Roude of Ellsworth and Grace Strand of Ellsworth; one brother, Leon (Nona) Stockwell of Maiden Rock; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his first two wives, Virgie (Bolin) Stockwell and Lila (Bowen) Stockwell; and two brothers, Wayne and Elwin.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 10, at the Bible Center Church in Maiden Rock with Rev. Donald Shilts officiating. Burial was to be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Ellsworth. Friends were to call at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth, on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Doris Strand, 78
PRESCOTT - Doris Strand of Prescott died Friday, June 12, 1998, at the St. Croix Care Center in Prescott. She was 78.
She was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Cohasset, Minn. She later lived in Grand Rapids, Minn., the Twin Cities and Red Wing.
She married Clayton Strand on July 9, 1975, in Red Wing. They moved to Prescott in 1978.
She enjoyed sewing, plants and flowers.
She is survived by: her husband, Clayton; four sons, Anthony and Becky of Grand Rapids, Jimmy and Elaine of Hibbing, Minn., Ronald and Arlene of St. Cloud, Minn., and David and Charlene of Frontenac, Minn.; two daughters, Barbara and Robert Rajala of Chisholm, Minn., and Beverly and Kenneth Dunker of Henning, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her first husband, Anthony Bertram; one son in infancy; two grandsons; and one granddaughter.
Funeral was to be Tuesday, June 16, at the Nelson-Murphy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Stannard officiating. Interment was to be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Anthony Bertram, Jimmy Bertram, Ronald Bertram, David Bertram, Robert Rajala and Kenneth Dunker.

Delores J. Hague
SPRING VALLEY - Delores J. Hague of Spring Valley died Friday, June 19, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She was 65.
She was born April 23, 1933, and raised in Ellsworth. She was the daughter of Herbert and Martina (Mewhorter) Bjork. She graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School in 1951.
She married Russell Hague Nov. 16, 1951, in Ellsworth. After marriage, they lived in Maiden Rock for a few years before moving to River Falls. They farmed in the River Falls area for about 15 years. They moved to the Town of Spring Lake, rural Spring Valley, in 1970.
She worked as a homemaker, a cook at the Spring Valley Golf Course, helping care for other people through WestCap and doing Home Health Care. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren, quilting, gardening, reading and horse pulling.
She is survived by: her husband, Russell; three sons, James (Linda) and Randall (Debbie), both of Elmwood, and Richard (Denise) of Spring Valley; six daughters, Jeanelle (Lowell) Mandelkow of Elmwood, Suzanne (Dennis) Whirry and Elaine (Duane) Brorson, both of Spring Valley, Sandra Shultz (Gale Shultz) of St. Mary, W.Va., Cynthia Clements (Mike Richardson) of Cottage Grove, Minn., Kathleen (Barry) Christianson of Martell; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald Bjork of Newport, Minn., Cecil Bjork of River Falls and Harold Bjork of Ellsworth; one sister, Shirley DeMotts of River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church, rural Spring Valley, with Rev. Keith Holste officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in the Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends were to call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

Lois Marion Haustein
MAIDEN ROCK - Lois Marion Haustein, Wausau and formerly of Red Wing, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Wausau Hospice. She was 86.
She was born Feb. 14, 1912, in Maiden Rock to Reuben and Mary (Ross) Freeman. She graduated from Maiden Rock High School and married Gerald Haustein June 29, 1933, in Red Wing. They worked together at South Park Grocery, Miller Hotel and Red Wing Hotel. He died May 5, 1997.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was active in the John Ireland Club. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.
She is survived by: one daughter, Geraldine (Bill) Gongoll of Wausau; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Stella Morgan of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral was Saturday, June 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Revs. Thomas Walker and Michael Lynch officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Matt, Mike and Maria Dearth, Willy Gongoll, Sarah and Adam Jensen, and Elizabeth Mogensen. Memorials are preferred to the church.

Beatrice Margaret Keane
HAGER CITY - Beatrice Margaret Keane of Red Wing died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at her home. She was 73.
She was born July 26, 1924, in Pepin, the daughter of Chester and Maude (Elliott) Bolin. She graduated from Pepin High School in 1943 and on Nov. 12, 1947, she married Cletus Keane in Pepin. They lived in St. Paul, Wabasha, Minn., and for the past 42 years in Red Wing.
She worked several years at Interstate Medical Center and was a homemaker. He died Nov. 18, 1984.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the circles and she enjoyed camping, gardening, reading and was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by: two daughters, Rozanna (Walter) Byers of Hastings, Minn., and Margaret (Robert) Books of Minot, N.D.; two sons, Michael (Dianne) of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Richard (Vicki) of Hager City; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Bolin of Fridley, Minn.; and one sister, Florence VonHelmst of Rochester, Minn..
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Virginia Miller and June Clark.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Wordelman officiating. Burial will be in the Burnside Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation was to be at the Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be: Walt and Jennifer Byers, Alicia, Brad and Ross Keane, Laura and Jaren Books and Shawn, Cory and Chad Sands.

Eva E. Pierce
ELMWOOD - Eva E. Pierce of Elmwood died Monday, June 15, 1998, at the Spring Valley Care Center in Spring Valley. She was 90.
She was born Sept. 23, 1907, in New Hill, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of John and Emelia (Peterson) Falk. As a young child, she moved to Little Falls, Minn., and later to St. Paul, where she lived for several years.
She married Edward Pierce Oct. 14, 1925. They farmed in the Town of Weston and Eau Galle area of Dunn County. They later moved to Elmwood, where she worked as a cook at several restaurants in the area for many years until she retired.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elmwood and the Royal Neighbors for many years. He died in 1982.
She is survived by: two sons, James of Elmwood and Bill (Randa) of Amery, eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two sons, Robert and Charles; two brothers, Charles and John Falk.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 18, at the United Methodist Church in Elmwood with Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating. Burial was in the Lower Weston Cemetery, Town of Weston, Dunn County.
