Gail P. Linder
PLUM CITY - Gail P. Linder died Sunday, May 17, 1998, in Prescott, Ariz. He was 75.
He was born May 4, 1923, in Plum City to Peter and Verna (Fosburg) Linder.
He married Lila Smith on July 2, 1946, in Eau Galle. They moved to Prescott Valley from San Diego, Calif., in 1984.
He worked at K-Mart in Prescott as a sales clerk for 10 years before retiring in 1988. He was a volunteer at the Prescott Valley Food Bank for eight years.
Survivors include: his wife, Lila of Prescott Valley; sons, Rodney of Pomona, Calif., and Ricky of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sister, Marjorie Eckhoff of Red Wing; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Prescott Valley with Pastor Dennis Morner officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2724 E. Lake Dr., #9, Flagstaff, AZ 86004.

Grace Anna Johnson
MAIDEN ROCK - Grace Anna Johnson of Maiden Rock died at Fairview Red Wing Hospital on Sunday, June 21, 1998, after complications of a stroke she suffered on Friday, June 12, 1998. She was 83.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1914, in Maiden Rock Township, the daughter of Emil F. and Mary T. (Bergstrom) Sjostrom. She lived her entire life in Maiden Rock Township, graduating from Maiden Rock High School in 1933.
She was married to Sidney Johnson on Oct. 31, 1938, in Pepin. They farmed all their life, and she also worked as a waitress in Bay City and Maiden Rock. She devoted her life to her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and crafts, especially Raggedy Ann dolls. She loved to garden, and to have coffee with her Monday morning crew at her home.
She is survived by: her daughters, Harriet (Gordon) Rothe of Elmwood and Barbara Sand of Menomonie Falls; one brother, Edwin (Merle) Sjostrom of Maiden Rock; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, her dog, Twix.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Sidney, on Nov. 26, 1985.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Swandby-Murphy Funeral Home in Maiden Rock, with Dr. Manley Olson of St. Paul officiating. Her nephew, Doug Sjostrom, will give a eulogy. Luella Dettling will be organist and her granddaughter, Kim Ofstie, and Howard Larson will be soloists. Visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at the Swandby-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Maiden Rock Cemetery.

Kathleen Edwina Richardson
RED WING - Kathleen Edwina Richardson of Red Wing died at Methodist Hospital in Rochester on June 21, 1998. She was 62.
She was born August 20, 1935, in Two Harbors, Minn., to Edward and Catherine (MacDougall) Hall.
She is survived by one son, Jay Carlson of St. Paul, Minn.; four daughters, Brenda (Richard) Collins of Red Wing, Minn.; Maureen (Huggy) Atherton of Diamond Bluff, Donna (Bernie) Berktold of Lake City, Minn and Wanda (Troy) Hase of Red Wing, Minn.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Hugh Hall; and four sisters, Barbara (David) Youngberg, Sister Mary Clare Hall, Jackie Gow and Bonnie Wilkins. Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepfather, Clarence Johnson; and an infant son, Glen.
A private burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe, Stacey and Kaelee Siefert, Steven Atherton, Nicole and Brandon Hase, and Laura Berktold. Visitation was Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.

Harold F. Anderson
HAGER CITY - Harold F. Anderson of Hager City died on Friday, June 26, 1998, at the Red Wing Health Center. He was 78.
He was born on May 12, 1920, in Red Wing, Minn. the son of Gustaf Carl and Ethel A. (Porter) Anderson. He attended the Plainview School and farmed in Trenton Township.
He worked for Ralston Purina from 1969 until his retirement in 1982. He was a life long member of Svea Lutheran Church, active as a council member and usher. His interests included soil conservation, his church, family and friends.
Survivors include: one sister, Mary May Anderson of Hager City; cousins, Ruth (Art) Cernohous, Ft. Meyers, Fla., Donald E. (Phyllis) Nelson of Bay City, Alice Hodgman of Houston, Texas, Myrtle (Resser) Adams of St. Croix Falls, Agda Wikerfelt of Eksjo, Sweden, Petrus (Ingrid) Andersson of Hult, Sweden, Lois Girdeen of Red Wing.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and one brother, Edwin A. Anderson.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 1 at 11 a.m. at Svea Lutheran Church in Hager City with Rev. Ed Groop officiating. Friends may call at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home in Ellsworth on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Irene E. Ciolkosz , 83
Irene Ethel Ciolkosz died peacefully early Thursday, June 25, 1998 at her home following a short illness. She was 83.
She was born Oct. 26, 1914, at Clyde, the daughter of Fremont and Harriet (Koepp) Wonn. She attended area schools and graduated Stanley High School, then attended business college. Upon graduation, she worked in Chippewa Falls.
She married Walter Ciolkosz on Aug. 10, 1939 in Yankton, S.D. They lived and worked at Yankton, then in Chicago until moving to the Town of Delmar in 1947. They retired from farming in 1971 and moved to Stanley.
She worked many years as executive secretary at Thorp Finance Corp, later the IT&T office, in Thorp. She was a 50-plus year member of the United Methodist Church in Stanley and an active member of the Dorcas Guild. She was also active in the Stanley Historical Society, serving in various offices over the years.
In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret (Frank) Gruber of Ellsworth, and sons, Martin (Kathy), and Rodney (Jane), both of Stanley, and nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 1982.
Funeral service is 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27 at United Methodist Church in Stanley, Pastor Michael Weaver officiated. Interment at Oakland Cemetery.

Violet Rose Regelman
Violet Rose Regelman of Red Wing died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Hi-Park Care Center. She was 70.
She was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Welch Township (Minn.) to Joseph and Mabel (Hurry) Beyer. She married Wilfred Regelman Sept. 14, 1946, in Cresco, Ia., and they lived in Red Wing. He died Dec. 11, 1996.
She worked for St. John's Hospital for 14 years and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was active in the St. Lucy Circle.
She is survived by: two sons, Kenneth (Mary Beth) of Maplewood, Minn., and Rodney (Charmaine) of Wrightstown, N. J.; four grandchildren; five sisters, Viola Harth of Red Wing, Esther Wilson of Hastings, Minn., Genevieve (Harold) Ottman of Plum City, Eva Christiansen of Hager City and Margaret (Eldon) Thompson of Thief River Falls, Minn.; and one brother, Henry (Charlotte) Beyer of Ellsworth.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 26, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Stephen Ottman, Bob and Jim Schwieger, Adam Traynor, Rafael Valenzuela and Sean Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were: Deloris Meyer, Jenny Traynor and Char Valenzuela.

Jonathan "Jon" R. Clay
RIVER FALLS - Jonathan "Jon" R. Clay, of River Falls died Monday, June 29, 1998, at United Children's Hospital in St. Paul. He was 16.
He was born in Hudson on Sept. 1, 1981, the son of Leslie (Clay) Robey and Richard Clay.
He is survived by his mother, Leslie Robey of River Falls; his father, Richard Clay of White Bear Lake, Minn.; his step-father, Derwin "Dirk" Robey of River Falls; his step-mother, Delora Clay of White Bear Lake, Minn.; two brothers, Clinton Clay and Eric Clay, both of River Falls; his grandfather, Gene Clay of River Falls; many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Petra Clay of River Falls; and his grandfather, Richard Gelo of River Falls.
A wake will be held at Cashman Mortuary on Wednesday, July 1, from 6:30-9 p.m., and from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, before the funeral at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls.
The funeral is at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 2, at St. Bridget with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Mike Ferguson, D.J. DuBois, Keith Morris, Nate Huppert, Andrew Reese and Jeremiah Pinski.

Luverne Arthur Mehrkens
Luverne Arthur Mehrkens, Oronoco, died Saturday, June 27, at his home. He was 70.
He was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Goodhue to Arthur and Lillian (Kunde) Mehrkens, and grew up in the Goodhue and Zumbrota area. He hauled milk in the area and worked at the Ellsworth Creamery.
He entered the U.S. Navy in October 1945 and was honorably discharged in December 1948. He married Kay Mann March 29, 1957, and they lived in Zumbrota. Moving to Rochester, he then worked for IBM Co. for 29 years. They moved in 1991 to Oronoco. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco and a past member of Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. A member of the Zumbrota VFW Post, he was a past commander.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Bonnie (Dave Haug) Payan and Berdell (Michael) Raver, both of Rochester, Beverly (Larry) Gullickson of Claremont, Minn., and Brenda (James) Harmon of Dodge Center, Minn.; one son, Bruce (Jill) Mehrkens of Rochester; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel (Glen) Nelson of Danbury, Wis., and Rosie (Palmer) Olson of Zumbrota; and two brothers, Earl (Donna) of Wabasha and Alvin (Merle) of Zumbrota.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Grace Lutheran Church, Oronoco, with the Rev. Paul Bauldauf officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.

James K. Harris
RIVER FALLS - James K. Harris, of River Falls died Friday, June 26, 1998, in the town of Gilman. He was 40.
He was born April 6, 1958, in Minneapolis, the son of John F. and Beverly Johnson Harris.
He graduated from Mora High School in Mora, Minn., and earned his bachelor of science degree at UW-River Falls. He earned his master's degree at the University of Minnesota. He graduated with honors.
He married Jeanne M. Statz on Aug. 27, 1983, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Eau Claire.
He was employed as a hydrologist enforcement coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health.
He was a member of Ezekiel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Statz Harris of Eau Claire; a son, Benjamin at home; his mother, Beverly Johnson Harris; a brother, Ted Harris of Lakeland, Minn.; a sister, Jody Harris Wittner; five nephews, and five nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Harris; and his maternal and fraternal grandparents.
Funeral was Monday, June 29, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bill Montgomery officiating, assisted by the Rev. David Kebschull.
Cashman Mortuary provided arrangements.

David "Steve" Leonard
David "Steve" Leonard of Cumberland died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at his daughter's home near Cumberland. He was 79.
He was born April 1, 1919, in Ellsworth to Louis and Ruth (Bartlett) Leonard. He served with the U.S. Army from 1942-1945.
He married Bernice Koester July 6, 1943, in Red Wing, and they lived in Hudson. They owned Leonard's Dray Line and he later worked for the City of Hudson. They bought a resort on Sand Lake near Cumberland in 1964, and he later was a rural mail carrier. His wife died Aug. 17, 1989.
He belonged to Anderson-Thomson American Legion Post, Cumberland Senior Center and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland.
He is survived by: one daughter, Deedra (Jack) Wagner of Cumberland; one son, Steven (Norah) of Hayward; four grandchildren; and four sisters, Joyce Sharp of Minneapolis, Donna Earney and Della Overturf, both of Red Wing, and Doris Leik of Amery.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Kenneth.
Memorial services were to be held Tuesday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in McKinley Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. Memorials are preferred to the church or the American Cancer Society.
