Jerry DeGross, 67
Jerry DeGross, age 67, of Stevens Point died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.
He was born on June 12, 1931, in Pierce County to Henry and Geraldine (Wells) DeGross. He grew up on a farm and attended school in Pierce County. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as a police officer in Spring Valley and Ellsworth, and then in the Chicago Metropolitan Area.
He is survived by five children, 10 grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter and one sister.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 20, at Shuda's Funeral Home, Stevens Point.

Ruby V. Doughty, 88
ELMWOOD - Ruby V. Doughty of Elmwood died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, Elmwood.
She was born July 30, 1910, the daughter of Ernie and Ella (Fosberg) Fredrickson, in Lake City, Minn. She grew up in the Little Plum area.
She married Jay Doughty Dec. 2, 1935, in Ellsworth. After marriage, they lived and farmed in the Plum City and Arkansaw area. In 1943, they moved to the Town of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood, where they farmed. She worked for the Elmwood Area Schools for many years until she retired. He died Feb. 24, 1987.
She has been a resident of the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home for the past three-and-a-half years.
She is survived by: one son, Arlen (Judy) of Elmwood; one daughter, Janet (John) Williamson of Elmwood; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Gilles of Plum City; and one brother, Ralph Fredrickson of Neenah.
She was preceded in death by, besides her husband: her parents; one son, Arden; one daughter-in-law, Ellen; two granddaughters, Joan and Donna Doughty; one great-grandson, Jordan Holt; two brothers, Russel and Harold Fredrickson; twin brother and sister, Bernard and Bernice in infancy; two sisters-in-law, Mary Fredrickson and Marie Brantner; and one brother-in-law, Robert Gilles.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the United Methodist Church, Elmwood. Rev. Joel Certa-Werner will officiate. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery-Rock Elm, rural Elmwood. Friends were to call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home, Elmwood, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Casketbearers will be: Doug Doughty, Darryl Doughty, Miles Doughty, Dan Bechel, Mark Holt and Jay Williamson.
Arrangements are by the Rhiel Funeral Home, Elmwood.

Gordon L. Nelson, 75
MAIDEN ROCK - Gordon LaVerne Nelson, age 75, of Maiden Rock, died in his apartment Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998.
He was born in Maiden Rock on May 17, 1923, the son of George N. and Ellen (Olson) Nelson. He attended Plum Creek School. He farmed in Maiden Rock and Plum City areas until 1972. He was employed at the Farmers Union Elevator in Ellsworth from 1974-1984. He owned and operated the Nelson Watkins and Gift Shop in East Ellsworth starting in 1984. He moved his business to Maiden Rock, where it was called the SeaWing Gift Shop, which he operated until the time of his death.
He enjoyed hunting when he was younger. He enjoyed reading newspapers and family gatherings.
He is survived by: his sister, Ruth (Doyne) Anderson of River Falls; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Clinton and Eldon; and one sister, Josephine Stockwell.
Memorial services were held Monday, Nov. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Maiden Rock with Rev. Bernie Setterlund, officiating. Organist Luella Dettling accompanied congregational singing. Interment was in the Maiden Rock Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Lyle Stockwell, Donald Stockwell, Calvin Stockwell, Daniel Anderson, David Anderson and Douglas Anderson.
Swandby-Murphy Funeral Home of Maiden Rock was in charge of arrangements.

Douglas E. McGuire, 45
HAGER CITY - Douglas Edward McGuire, age 45, of Red Wing died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in an automobile accident near Hampton, Minn.
He was born Aug. 10, 1953, in Mankato, Minn., the son of Edward and Mary (Jones) McGuire. He was a 1972 graduate of Janesville High School. He attended Austin Technical College and Mankato Technical College in Minnesota. He worked on the family farm in Madison Lake, Minn.
He married Jill Vogel Aug. 18, 1979, in North Mankato, Minn. They moved to Red Wing in 1983. He worked for Plunkett's Pest Control Service. He was a member of Red Wing Assembly of God Church, where he served as head trustee. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
He is survived by: his wife, Jill of Red Wing; four children, PFC Nathan Zimmerman, Ft. Bragg, N.C., Michael, Heather and Mitchell McGuire at home; his parents, Edward and Mary McGuire of Madison Lake; four sisters, Debra (Craig) Schmahl, St. Peter, Minn., Diane Ytuarte of Waseca, Minn., Cynthia (David) Blaschko of St. Peter Minn., Susan (David) Beard, Hager City; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were: two sisters, Patricia and Linda McGuire; and one brother, Richard McGuire.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m. at Red Wing Assembly of God Church with Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation was to be at the Bodelson-Mahn Chapel on Tuesday from 4-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Doug McGuire Memorial Fund, c/o Assembly of God Church, 240 Spates Ave., Red Wing, Minn. 55066.
Pallbearers will be: Robert Bethea, John Landmark, Ken Peterson, Paul Peterson, Ron Peterson, LeRoy Wasson.

Dolores M. Marcott, 78
SPRING VALLEY - Dolores Mae Marcott, age 78, of Wilson died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, Elmwood, where she had been a resident since July.
She was born May 8, 1920, the daughter of Ervin and Anna (Liesling) Strassburg at Lake Mills. She was baptized at Lake Mills, confirmed at Little Black Lutheran Church and presently a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.
On Jan. 22, 1938, she married Norman Marcott at Stetsonville. They lived at Stetsonville until 1954, when they moved to Cadott. They owned and operated the Clear Creek Cheese Factory until 1960. In 1964, they purchased the cheese factory in Cady Township. They owned and operated the Cady Cheese Factory and also opened the Cady Cheese Store there. In 1978, they returned and moved to Arizona, moving back to Wilson in 1997.
Survivors include: her husband, Norman of Wilson; two sons, Richard (Joyce) Marcott of Spring Valley and Dale (Wendy) Marcott of Wilson; one sister, Sylvia (Joseph) Schutkowski of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Eve (Ed) Ellefson, Lana (Jody) Anderson, Julie (Chris) Blegen, Kim (Tim) Smith, Pam (Gary) Tamburello and Johanna Marcott; five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Steven Blegen, Kelley and Kelsey Ellefson, and Thomas Smith; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; one brother, Roland Strassburg; and one daughter, Deanna Mickelson.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 19, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, with Rev. Martin Wegner officiating. Music was provided by organist Kathy Brown with congregational singing. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Spring Valley. Bearers were her granddaughters: Eve Ellefson, Lana Anderson, Julie Blegen, Kim Smith, Pam Tamburello and Johannah Marcott.

Donald C. Pedersen, 84
ELMWOOD - Donald C. Pedersen, age 84, of Elmwood died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood.
He was born Feb. 15, 1914, in Milltown, the son of Hans and Caroline (Lander) Pedersen, and grew up in that area. He graduated from Unity High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater of WWII. After the service, he returned home and began working for NSP as a lineman.
He married Josephine Grabski May 6, 1950, in St. Paul. After marriage, they made their home in Elmwood, where he continued to work for NSP for 25 years, retiring in 1973. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by: three daughters, Carol Pedersen of San Antonio, Tex., Donna (Mark) Sobraske of Maple Grove, Minn., Peg (Mark) Tembreull of Lino Lakes, Minn.; two sons, Ted (Lynn Stebe) Pedersen of Elmwood and Bob (Barbara Kelly) Pederson of Woodinville, Wash.; four grandchildren, Eric and Joe Sobraske and Tiffany and Mitch Tembreull; a sister-in-law, Ann Marie Pedersen of Osceola; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Josephine on Jan. 17, 1998; and four brothers.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood with Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating.
Military honors provided by the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post #207 in Elmwood.

Scott D. Sparks, 29
SPRING VALLEY - Scott D. Sparks, age 29, of rural Spring Valley and formerly of rural Kasson, Minn., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, due to a automobile accident in rural Ellsworth.
He was born Jan. 1, 1969, in Rochester, Minn., to Donald and Elsie Sparks of Rochester. He grew up in rural Kasson and graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1987. He attended Mankato (Minn.) State University in Mankato for three years.
He married Audrin J. Boyum Aug. 21, 1993, in rural Hayfield, Minn. They farmed in rural Kasson. In 1995, they moved to Spring Valley, where he farmed and did trucking independently.
He is survived by: his wife, Audrin; sister, Sonja (Fred) Ziegler of Rochester; paternal grandmother, Valetta Sparks of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Hayfield, Minn. Pastor Frezil Daniel-Westerlund, Pastor Douglas W. Westerlund and Pastor Curtis Johnson will officiate. Friends were to call at the Dibble Funeral Home in Kasson on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 6-8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be no reviewal. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Kasson.
Memorials to the charity of the donor's choice are preferred.

Loretta M. Richmond, 81
Loretta M. Richmond, age 80, of Ellsworth, formerly of Prescott, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998 at the Ellsworth Care Center.
She was born March 15,1917 in Trimbelle Township the daughter of Mark and Birdie (Greeley) Leonard. She was a graduate of Pilager High School. She married Clyde Richmond Oct. 7,1 936 in Motley, Minn. They moved to the Ellsworth area in 1941 and then to Prescott in 1951. She was employed by Smead Manufacturing for over 30 years. She has resided at the Ellsworth Care Center since 1995.
She loved their cabin on Lake White Ash near Amery and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Birdie (Earl) Cole of Conway, Mo., Lola (Arnie) Karlstad of Elgin, Minn., and Bonnie (Auldin) Gunderson of Roberts; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also three sisters and one brother, Pearl Beyer of Star Prairie, Dorothy Satter of Minneapolis, Joyce (John) Fiedler of Coon Rapids, Minn. and Harold (Emilie) Riedel of Fort Smith, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Lucille Geister and one grandson.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 26 at United Church of Christ, Prescott. Rev. David Roberts officiated. Interment was in Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott.

Norma Nord, 84
SPRING VALLEY - Norma E. Nord, age 84, of Spring Valley died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
She was born March 25, 1914, to Charles and Ruth (Eaton) Weghorn. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1934.
On March 19, 1935, she married Rexford Nord. She worked a number of jobs in Spring Valley, most recently for the Spring Valley Sun and Cardinal Insurance.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Rex; sister Helen Hojem; and brother, Gordon "Bud" Weghorn.
Survivors include: two daughters, Jannine Quilling of Baldwin and Linda (Martin) Price of Woodville; two brothers, Omer (Vera) Weghorn of Eau Claire and Harland (Stella) Weghorn of Spring Valley; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Services were held Tuesday at Congregational Church in Spring Valley with burial in Spring Lake Cemetery.

Harold D. Winger, 65
Harold D. Winger, age 65, of Ellsworth died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul.
He was born March 18, 1933, in Ellsworth, the son of Harry and Olga (Rice) Winger. He married Barbara Klingensmith Sept. 18, 1954, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Beldenville.
He drove truck for Hines Transfer for 34 years and worked for Brickner Oil Company for the last 10 years.
He loved camping at O'Neil Creek by Chippewa Falls.
He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Beldenville. He was currently a member of English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Winger, Ellsworth; four children, Kevin (Lynette) Winger, Ellsworth, Larry (Sue) Winger, Ladysmith, Lon (Kirsten) Winger, Hager City, Lori (Lee) Oberg, Burnsville, Minn.; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Beverly (Howard) Kiefer, Edward (Betty) Winger, Arthur (Helga) Winger, all of Spring Valley, Jeanette (Warren) Schade, Beldenville. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, two grandsons, Joshua and Curtis, and one infant grandson.
A memorial service was to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, with Revs. Harlen Menk and Lauryl Stockness officiating. Friends were to call at the church from 3 p.m. until time of services Tuesday. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Our Saviors Cemetery, Beldenville. Memorials are preferred.
