Thomas C. Huddleston, 75
HAGER CITY - Thomas C. Huddleston, age 75, of Red Wing died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born July 14, 1923, in Dumfries, Minn., the son of Thomas and Tillie (Cruzer) Huddleston. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 19, 1943, to Dec. 12, 1945, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Art and Commercial Advertising.
He married Betty Ann Johnson on Aug. 9, 1947, in Red Wing. They moved to Marshalltown, Ia., and he worked for Lennox. They moved to West Des Moines, Ia., where he worked for Lesing-Flynn Advertising and The Des Moines Register and Tribune Newspaper. In 1975, they moved to Hager City and he owned the Viaduct Night Club. He then worked at Jostens as an art director. His final career move was as owner of The Lighthouse Liquor Store in Lake City, Minn.
He was a member of the Des Moines Craftsmen Club, Kiwanis Chapter, West Des Moines Dixieland Band, Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post 1218 and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. She died June 1, 1995. He married Mildred Johnson Nov. 30, 1996, in Red Wing.
His hobbies included watercolor painting and playing euchre. He was an avid musician, playing Dixieland trumpet, and he was a freelance artist.
He is survived by: his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Wendy Stienkraus of Lake Villa, Ill., and Jan Goodrich (Jim Shaddox) of Aurora, Colo.; one son, Thomas J. Huddleston of Hager City; five stepchildren, James J. Johnson of Redwood City, Calif., Cheryl (Ken) Roufs, Pamela (David) Trulin and Bruce Q. A. Johnson, all of Red Wing, and Thomas B. (Laura) Johnson of Midland, Tex.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Sargent, Neida Stevens and Jean Snead of New Brighton, Minn.
Preceding him in death were: his first wife, Betty; one sister, Jacqueline; and one brother, Robert Huddleston.
Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall D. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.

Dean J. Nelson, 59
Dean Jerome Nelson, age 59, of Goodhue, Minn., died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Cannon Falls (Minn.) Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Washington to Sam and Marion (Colquit) Nelson. He grew up in Trimbelle Township near Ellsworth and attended school there. He married Evelyn Nelson in 1972. He worked at Smead Manufacturing in Hastings, Minn., until 1978. She died Sept. 9, 1993.
He lived in rural Goodhue for 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include: his father of Federal City, Wash.; one son, Jason of Goodhue; one grandson; and one brother, Dale (Vicky) of Ellsworth.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his mother.
Graveside service was Wednesday, March 31, at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Minneola Township (Minn.) with the Rev. Randall Kuznicki officiating.

Dianne M. Ableidinger, 56
BAY CITY - Dianne M. Ableidinger, age 56, of Red Wing died Saturday, April 3, 1999, in Red Wing as the result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
She was born June 13, 1942, in Red Wing to Harvey and Helen (Haustein) Jeske. A 1996 graduate of Red Wing Central High School, she lived in Lake City, Minn., and worked for the state forestry program at the Goulds. She married Van Ableidinger Nov. 9, 1963, in Lake City. They moved to Red Wing and later divorced. She worked at Riviera Cabinets and then in advertising at KS95 and K102 radio stations. She recently worked at Jostens.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and attended Women's Network. She was an avid volunteer with the church, Alzheimer's Association and Goodhue County (Minn.) Humane Society. She worked briefly and volunteered at the Goodhue County Historical Society. She enjoyed collecting Red Wing Pottery, horseback riding and photography.
She is survived by: one daughter, Terri Ableidinger of Rochester, Minn.; four sisters, Mary (Doulie) Williams and Rita (Tom) Mitchener, both of Red Wing, Mona Kees of DeSmet, S.D., and Peggy (Jesse) Harding of Bay City; two brothers, Fred (Sherry) and Alan (Cheri) Jeske, both of Red Wing; her father of Red Wing.
Funeral was Thursday, April 8, at St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Roni Cardell, Alisa Earp, Dustin Harding, Gary Jeske, Matthew and Tina Kees. Honorary pallbearers were: Chris and Laurie Jeske, Andy and Emily Mitchener. Memorials are preferred to Goodhue County Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Association.

Alice L. Schrimpf, 93
BAY CITY - Alice Leonora Schrimpf, age 93, of Amery died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Golden Age Manor, Amery, where she resided since early 1998 after having a series of strokes.
She was born Nov. 20, 1905, in Burnside Township, Minn., the daughter of William and Bertha (Johns) Persig. She grew up in Wacouta, Minn., where she attended school. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Wing. She married Emil Schrimpf June 4, 1925, in Wacouta. They farmed near Bay City, until moving to Amery in 1987. He died Dec. 25, 1988.
She was a member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Esdaile, for many years. She enjoyed tatting, embroidery work and flowers.
She is survived by: twin sons, Melvin (Gwen) Schrimpf of Amery and Marvin of Bloomington, Minn., and Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Elaine (Richard) Greenfield of Roberts; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Brown, Norma Munson, Edna Martenson, all of Red Wing; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were: one brother, Herbert Persig, and one sister, Myrtle Martenson.
Funeral services were Monday, April 12, at Eidsvold Lutheran Church with Carol Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Memorials are preferred to the church. Pallbearers were: LaVerne Hanson, Marlan Hanson, Wayne Munson, Ralph Schrimpf, Robert Schrimpf, Vincent Wood. Honorary Casketbearers were: Dawn Denucci, Renee Morris, David Schrimpf, Vance Schrimpf.

Janet M. Golisch, 59
MAIDEN ROCK - Janet Mae (Hayman) Golisch, 59, Brooklyn Center, Minn., died Friday, April 16, 1999, at North Memorial Medical Center.
She was born July 10, 1939, in Red Wing to Charles and Dorothea (Issendorf) Hayman. She graduated in 1953 from St. John's Lutheran School, in 1957 from Red Wing Central High School and in 1959 from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn.
She married David Golisch June 30, 1962, in Red Wing. She taught elementary school in Green Lake and Wauwatosa. They lived in Waukesha from 1965-76 and then in Michigan, where she worked at a garden market in Livonia. In 1994, the couple returned to Minnesota and lived in Brooklyn Center, where she most recently worked at Kohl's Department Store. An active church member, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking.
She is survived by: her husband; her children, Lisa (the Rev. Robert) Trueblood of Ocheyedan, Ia., Sara (Loren) Heintz of Fulda, Minn., Timothy (Caryn) of Wyoming, Mich., and the Rev. Benjamin (Susan) Golisch of Martinez, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Barbara) Hayman and Milton (Marilyn) Hayman, both of Maiden Rock, and Wilbur (Frances) Hayman of Red Wing; one sister, Adeline (Vincent) Deden of Red Wing; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Hayman.
Funeral was to be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Martin Mielke and the Rev. Dennis Klatt of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hope, Minn., officiating. Burial was to be in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were to be: Jerome, Niles and Ross Deden, Daniel Frick, Daniel Hayman and Jeff Ignatowski. Visitation was Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato or WELS Lutherans for Life.
Lucille Heitman, 64
BAY CITY - Lucille Joyce Heitman, 64, Red Wing, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
She was born April 17, 1934, in Lake City, Minn., to Edwin and Ella (Tomforde) Niebeling. She moved with her family to Red Wing in 1943 and attended Red Wing schools.
She married William "Willie" Heitman Oct. 4, 1952, in Red Wing, and he died Feb. 2, 1993. She worked at Red Wing Pottery and at Red Wing Shoe Company for 28 years. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and was an avid Vikings fan.
She is survived by: two sons, Douglas (Tye) and Guy (Debra), both of Red Wing; five grandchildren; five brothers, Lawrence (Loraine) and James (Linda) Niebeling, both of Red Wing; Robert (Laverne) Niebeling of Waianae, Hawaii, Davis (Karen) Niebeling of Bay City and Jerry (Millie) Niebeling of Welch, Minn.; four sisters, Margaret (Glen) Books of Lady Lake, Fla., Evelyn (LaFayette) Poole of Rosemount, Minn., Ruth (Neal) McCleary of Red Wing and Angeline (Orville) Doerr of Hastings, Minn.
Preceding her in death were: her husband; two brothers, Norbert and Dean Niebeling; and five sisters, Mary Jane Niebeling, Donna Blair, Emily Dutcher, Arlene Morrison and June McCleary.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Martin Mielke officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jesse and Jay Ryan, Gary Jablonski, Jay McCleary, Rick Nesteby and Dan Niebeling.
Visitation was to be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
Kimberly Gardner, 29
BELDENVILLE - Kimberly Gardner, 29, of Beldenville died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, unexpectedly by an aneurysm.
She was born on July 1, 1969, in Norwalk, Ohio. She worked at Commonwealth Electric in the accounting department for five years. She married Bradley Gardner Oct. 18, 1997.
She is survived by: her husband, Bradley; her parents, Ronald and Patricia Grosswiler Sr.; her sister, Rose Ann Obermiller; and her brothers, Ronald, Jeffrey and Kevin of Norwalk.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth. The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in River Falls.
Funeral service memorials are preferred.

Randolph O.B. Christopherson, 72
BELDENVILLE - Randolph "Rany" O.B. Christopherson, age 72, of Beldenville died suddenly Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul. He was rushed to Regions after having entered the River Falls Area Hospital a few hours earlier.
He was born July 16, 1926, the son of Otto and Inga (Jensen) Christopherson in Gilman Township. He was baptized and confirmed and a life member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Beldenville. He grew up in Gilman Township and attended Spring Valley High School, graduating with the Class of 1944.
On Dec. 3, 1947, he married Mildred "Millie" Nelson at Our Saviors Parsonage. They farmed in Gilman Township from 1944 until 1989 and raised a family of 10 children.
He enjoyed many activities, such as horseshoes, card club, hunting and fishing, and singing campfire songs. He played the piano, enjoyed dancing and poetry, and also square danced for a while. He served on the Our Saviors Church Council as Trustee and he and his wife Millie were church custodians for the past 12 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Mildred "Millie" of Beldenville; his 10 children, Marlys (Kenneth) Beissler of St. Paul, Rhoda (Rick) Foley of Beldenville, Sharon (Larry) Peterson of Ellsworth, Lanette (Bruce) Place of Red Wing, Pauline (Roger) Laughnan of Beldenville, Julie (Glenn) Henthorne of North St. Paul, Minn., Teresa (Craig) Flynn of Hager City, Rodney Christopherson of Beldenville, Reed (Shari) Christopherson of Bay City and Neil (Wendy) Christopherson of Hager City. He is also survived by: 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Allen (Janet) Christopherson of Red Wing and Vernon Christopherson of Mendota Heights, Minn.; many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; one brother, Canton Christopherson; two sisters, Olga Palmquist and infant sister, Bertha; and son-in-law, Vaughn Strand.
Visitation was to be held Tuesday, April 20, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Beldenville. Funeral services were to follow at 7 p.m. at the church. Rev. John Sutherland was to officiate the service. Music was to be provided by organist Amy Holdorf with congregational singing. Burial was to be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, Beldenville.
Bearers were to be his grandsons: Chad Peterson, Mike Peterson, Andy Place, Elliot Place, Nickolas Place and Luke Flynn.

Clarence Voorhees, 82
DIAMOND BLUFF - Clarence A. "Pete" Voorhees, 82, Siloam Springs Ark., died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Pella, Ia., to Frank and Nellie Voorhees. The family moved to Elkton, Minn., when he was a child and graduated from school there in 1934.
He married Dorothy Lorenzen June 19, 1940. They farmed near Elkton until 1959, when they moved to Diamond Bluff. They also lived in Red Wing, Lake City, Minn., and Grand Meadow, Minn., before retiring to Arkansaw in 1976. She died March 6, 1997.
He is survived by: six children, Clara Jean (James) Smith of Rochester, Minn., James (Laurie) of Lake City, Herbert (Cheryl) of Siloam Springs, Kenneth (Renee) of Rutland, Mass., Donald (Sandy) of Safety Harbor, Fla., and Christie (David) Kuhn of Collinsville, Okla.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Drake of Dexter, Minn.; and one brother, Frank of Arizona.
Preceding him in death were two sisters and two brothers.
A joint service for Clarence and Dorothy will be at a later date in Lake City. The family prefers no memorials.
Pauline T. Bock, 77
ELMWOOD - Pauline T. Bock, age 77, of Elmwood died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, Elmwood.
She was born June 6, 1921, in the Town of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood. She was born and raised in the Farm Hill community. She married C. Ted Bock July 30, 1946. After marriage, they lived in Elmwood. She taught school in the Elmwood area for over 25 years. He died in 1981.
She is survived by: five sons, Bill (Gayle) of Palm Springs, Calif., Robert and Jim (Ann) of Elmwood, Tom of St. Cloud, Minn., Larry (Trish) of North Branch, Minn.; two daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Voltz of Baraboo, Colleen (Rob) Bowen of Elmwood; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted and one son, Dan.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 20, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elmwood. Rev. Varkey Velickakathu will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
