Anna E. Ostberg Hauschildt, 82
SPRING VALLEY - Anna Elenora Ostberg Hauschildt, age 82, of Spring Valley died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at the Spring Valley Health Care Center at Spring Valley where she has lived since May 1991.
Anna was born Nov. 7, 1916, at home in Minneapolis, to Charles and Laura (Quint) Ostberg. In 1929 she went to live with Charles and Martha LeRoy and later the E. Ray family in Minneapolis. In 1932, she was baptized and confirmed at Swedish Tabernacle Mission Covenant Church in Medicine Lake, Minn.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1935 and began working as a dietary aide at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis the following year. She joined the Gould Mandolin Orchestra and Band and played madolin with them for several years. On June 18, 1938 Anna married Melvin Hauschildt at the Church of Minneahaha Falls in Minneapolis and moved to Ellsworth. In 1946, they moved to a farm near Olivet. She was active in Ladies Aid at Gilman and later Spring Lake Lutheran churches, taught Sunday School. She was a 4-H leader for woodworking and electricity and later was active in the TOPS/KOPS group. She enjoyed music and sang in the church and ecumenical choirs. She also served two years as president of the SVHCC Resident Council and one year as secretary.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin of Spring Valley; six children, David (Alana) of Spring Valley, Martha (Charles) Jonason of Brooklyn Park, Minn., LaVern (Nancy) of Goodview, Minn., and Dennis (Julie) of Neillsville; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Spilman of Aitkin, Minn.; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 27 at Spring Lake Lutheran Church. Rev. Keith Holste officiated the service. Music was provided by organist Mary Jane Hecker with congregational singing. Burial was at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Ellsworth. Bearers were Bruce Jonason, Bill Griefzu, Heidi Adam, Jason Blaisdell, Pauline Rodewald and Bethany Hauschildt.

Lucille H. Swanson, 83
PLUM CITY - Lucille H. Swanson, age 83, of Plum City died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital, Durand.
She was born May 24, 1916 the daughter of Emil and Selma (Julian) Hoffman. She was born and raised in the Town of Maiden Rock. She graduated from Maiden Rock High School. She married Rudolph Swanson Nov. 20, 1943 in Red Wing. After marriage they lived and farmed in the Town of Maiden Rock. In 1983 they moved to Plum City where she remained the rest of her life. Her husband Rudolph passed away Dec. 31, 1986.
She was the financial secretary for the Sabylund Lutheran Church for 20 years, a census taker for several townships in Pierce County, president of Senior Center in Plum City for many years and assessor for Maiden Rock Township for two years.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Marie) of Stevens Point; one daughter, Greta (Steve) Baehnman of Weyauweg; one granddaughter, Elli Rae Swanson of Junction City; one sister, Hazel Nelson of Plum City.
She was preceded in death by besides her husband, her parents, and two brothers, Lester and Edgar Hoffman.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the Sabylund Lutheran Church, Lund. Rev. Lynne Rigg will officiate. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home, Durand, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Robert G. Erlandson, 70
Robert George Erlandson, age 70, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz.
He was born in Ellsworth on Feb. 22, 1929 to Sigvert and Ida Erlandson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Beldenville. He attended grade school at Iverson School, Ellsworth Township and graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School in 1947.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended Dunwoody Technical School in Minneapolis. He was employed by the Taconite Plant in Silver Bay, Minn. In 1966, he was married to Helen Chance. She preceded him in death in 1978. In 1979 he married Shirley Saari. Later they retired to Tucson.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Eve Alene Chance Berry, Dawn Chance Ward, and Paula Saari Siveny; two sisters, Ellen Erlandson and Edna (Ben) Hines; two brothers, Steven (Marion) Erlandson and Laurence (Hazel) Erlandson; one brother-in-law, Robert Frost; one aunt, Viola Jensen. He is also survived by five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ida Erlandson Frost and one brother, Harold Erlandson.
Memorial services were held at Our Savior's on Sept. 25. Burial was at the Military Cemetery at Phoenix, Ariz.

Phyllis L. Lecheler, 77
DURAND - Phyllis L. Lecheler, age 77 of Durand died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999 at the Oakview Care Center, Durand.
She was the daughter of Hans and Thora (Formoe) Moen. She was born July 10, 1922 and raised in the Town of Gilman. She married Arthur Lecheler Oct. 15, 1946 at Farm Hill, rural Elmwood. After marriage they farmed in the Town of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood. In 1969 they moved to Durand, where she remained the rest of her life. He husband Arthur died Aug. 24, 1999. She has been a resident of the Oakview Care Center for the past five years.
She is survived by five daughters, Sandra (Daniel) Knott of Eau Claire, Theresa (Douglas) Henderson of Menomonie, Janice (Roger) Spindler of Bay City, Charlene (Dennis) Henderson of Milton, Nancy (Randy) Taylor of Red Wing; two sons, David (Jean) of Billings, Mont. and Arthur P. (Peggy) of Westfield, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Evelyn Nelson of Woodville, Arlene Geraets of Elmwood, June Fritz of Spring Valley, Mary Ellen Busse of Winona, Minn.
She was preceded in death by besides her husband Arthur, her parents, three grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Durand. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Theodore Vanasse, 93
SPRING VALLEY - Theodore Vanasse, age 93, died in Menomonie on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999.
He was born on March 2, 1906 in Spring Valley, to William and Lena (Nordrum) Vanasse. He married Thelma Hovde June 14, 1938 and they had one son, Charles, born in 1947.
When Ted was in his early teens, his family moved to the farm where he was to spend the rest of his life. He had many varied skills and accomplishments. He graduated from UW-River Falls in 1962. He farmed some and taught school for a few years.
He is survived by a sister, Helen (Lloyd) Barnstable; son, Charles and Charles' companion, Sandra Soares and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; his parents; a sister, Mildred and two brothers, Earl and Victory.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept.. 25 at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley with Rev. Keith Holste officiating. Music was provided by organist Mary (Wenum) Nelson with congregational singing. Burial was in Spring Lake Cemetery, Spring Valley. Bearers were David Vanasse, Doug Blegen, Don Blegen, James Wenum, Theodore Wenum, Vernon Vanasse and Irvin Vanasse.

Mary A. Potts, 54
BAY CITY - Mary A. Potts, age 54, of Bay City died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester of cancer.
She was born Oct. 12, 1944, in Red Wing to Milton and Mabel (Nelson) Hanson. A 1962 graduate of Ellsworth Senior High School, she worked for three years at First National Bank in St. Paul. She married Dennis Potts May 7, 1966, in Esdaile. She worked part time for Brown's Seed Corn and Anderson's Berry Patch.
She was a lifetime member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church where she was Sunday school superintendent for many years. She enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking and baking.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Bay City; four children, Dale Potts of Bay City, Karyl (Michael) Tiffany of Elmwood, Tricia (Rich) Lofgren of Bay City and Darrell (Stephanie) Potts of Maiden Rock; three granddaughters; two brothers, LaVerne (Norma) Hanson and Marlan (Kathy) Hanson, both of Bay City; three sisters, Arlene (Donovan) Kline of Red Wing, Dorothy (Melvin) Johnson of Hager City and Gloria (Eldon) Myer of Hammond.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Vera and Loretta Hanson.
Funeral was Friday, Sept. 24 at Eidsvold Lutheran Church with Carol Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Eidsvold Lutheran Cemetery in Hartland Township. Memorials preferred to Eidsvold Lutheran Church Sunday School or Spring Lake Lutheran Church Sunday School. Pallbearers will be Ryan Hanson, Michael Johnson, Gary Kline, John Kuesel Jr., Randy Myer and Scott Schoepp. Memorials are preferred to Eidsvold or Spring Lake Lutheran churches' Sunday schools.

Mina E. Weller, 83
Mina Edith Weller, age 83, of Red Wing died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at her home.
She was born may 2, 1916 in Mazeppa, Minn. the daughter of Melvin and Elva (Carlon) Bergo. She attended Mazeppa schools. She worked in River Falls and St. Paul as a bookkeeper. She married Orend Martens Oct. 4, 1953 in Red Wing. He died July 18, 1975. She married Robert Weller July 7, 1982 in Las Vegas. She worked for Red Wing Shoe Company for over 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the WOW Bowling League. She collected dolls that resembled members of her family. She enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Weller of Red Wing; one daughter, Suzanne (Hermann) von Knobelsdorff of Goodhue, Minn.; four stepchildren, David (Shirley) Weller of Cannon Falls, Minn., Peggy (Allen) Hayes of Hager City, Brenda Befort of Zumbrota, Minn. and Robert Weller of River Falls; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Val (Curt) Austin of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; one brother, Elmer (Gerry) Bergo of Hager City; nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her first husband; two grandsons; one sister, Eunice Bergo and one brother, Harold Bergo.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 25 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Noren officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or Fairview Red Wing Hospice.

William 'Bill' L. Dandy, 96
SPRING VALLEY - William "Bill" Lester Dandy, age 96, of Spring Valley died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 19, 1903, at Odebolt, Ia., the son of William and Lydia (Brown) Dandy. He was raised on a farm near Schaller, Ia. He was school custodian there and at Carroll, Ia.
On Sept. 18, 1925, he married Dorothy Pattison at Webster City, Ia. They had three children: Margaret, Martha and William Dandy. His wife Dorothy died in March 1984.
He entered the U.S. Air Force during WWII and moved to New Braunfels, Tex., where he lived for a number of years. After his military service, he was employed by the Civil Service and then became self-employed in the construction of homes. On Nov. 2, 1986, he married Juliet Aamodt at Warsaw, Mo. They lived at Camdenton, Mo., for four years before moving to Spring Valley.
He served offices in the Lutheran Church as both a council member and treasurer. His hobbies included traveling and fishing.
Survivors include: his wife, Juliet of Spring Valley; daughter, Dorothy Margaret Bartels of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren; four brothers, Edgar (Ella) Dandy of Schaller, Ia., George (Olive) Dandy of Springfield, Ark., Floyd (Bernice) Dandy of Storm Lake, Ia., and Lincoln (Gloria) Dandy of Sioux Rapids, Ia.; two sisters, Mary Christensen of New Braunfels and Edna Aamodt of Prescott; stepsons Arland (Marlene) Aamodt and Luverne (Henrietta) Aamodt of Spring Valley; stepdaughter, Lucille Aamodt of Bloomington, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; his first wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Martha Lezzeni; one son, William B. Dandy; three brothers, Morris, Aubrey and Wilbur Dandy.
Local services were Monday, Oct. 4, at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley. Rev. Keith Holste officiated with music provided by vocalist Dorla Holm. A service was also held Oct. 2 at Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, Ia. Burial was in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Shane 'Skinny' Robert Elsen, 31
Shane "Skinny" Robert Elsen, age 31, of Red Wing died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 11, 1968, in Red Wing, the son of Robert and Betty (Ostrem) Elsen.
He was a 1986 graduate of Ellsworth Senior High School and a 1988 graduate of Red Wing Technical College. He worked for Sylvander Heating, Inc., for 10 years and currently was employed by D & S Heating in Lake City, Minn. He enjoyed riding and rebuilding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and woodworking.
He is survived by: Jill Zander of Red Wing; his parents, Robert and Betty Elsen of Hager City; two sisters, Kris (Dave) Deiss of Ellsworth and Tara Elsen of Hager City; one brother, Jason (Lisa) Elsen of Ellsworth; and his paternal grandmother, Helen Elsen of Onalaska; two nieces and three nephews.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Leo Elsen, and maternal grandparents, Martin and Alma Ostrem.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Thomas Walker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was to be at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, on Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
Memorials preferred to the church or the donor's choice. Pallbearers: Dick Banidt, Troy Doose, Chris Fick, Gordy Manor, Todd Manor, Rick Tutewohl, Steve Wooding and John Zorn.

Robert D. Jonas, 67
HAGER CITY - Robert Donald Jonas, age 67, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Goodhue County (Minn.) to Rudolph and Helen (Kruger) Jonas. He served for more than 22 years in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Purple Heart during his tour in Vietnam. He was an HVAC mechanic.
He is survived by: six daughters, Beverly Pierce, Mary (David) Putnam, both of Virginia Beach, Helen Jonas of Norfolk, Va., Janet Eicher, Robert Jonas and Susan Jonas, all of Vista, Calif.; one sister, Delores Ringeisen of Goodhue; two brothers, Darrell of Goodhue and Dale of Hager City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were at Diamond Spring Christian Church with the Rev. Jack Austin officiating. The U.S. Navy assisted with scattering his ashes at sea. Memorials are preferred to the Robert D. Jonas Memorial Fund, in care of Mary Putnam, 520 Chownings Dr., Virginia Beach, 23462.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia.
