Ginger 'Ginger' J. Swanson, 67
HAGER CITY - Virginia "Ginger" Jean Swanson, 67, Red Wing, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at her home.
She was born March 25, 1932, in Plainview, Minn., to Donald and Erna (Polikowsky) Isensee. She grew up in Red Wing and Hager City, attending grade school in Trenton Township and Hager city. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1950 and was homecoming princess.
She married Donald "Swannie" Swanson in Red Wing Feb. 10, 1951. She worked in the office at Red Wing Shoe Company from 1951-52 and then was a homemaker. From 1981-98, she was a tour director for First Line Tours of Bloomington, Minn., and Tourco of Little Canada, Minn. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, United Commercial Travelers, Cruiser Club of Red Wing and Red Wing Collectors Society. She enjoyed boating and traveling.
She is survived by: her husband; two daughters, Susan (Jerry) Jensen of Lake City, Minn., and Kim (John) Key of Red Wing; four grandchildren; and her parents of Red Wing.
Memorial service was to be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Eisenmann officiating. Burial of cremains was to be in Oakwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were to be her grandchildren, Jamie and Kristi Jensen, and Justin and Jason Key.
Memorials are preferred to Red Wing Hospice, American Cancer Society or the church building fund.

Vincent Wood, 82
BAY CITY - Vincent L. Wood, 82, Bay City, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Red Wing, to Frank and Mary (Bolland) Wood and moved with his family in 1920 to Wisconsin. He attended Esdaile School and worked the family farm until 1997.
He married Gladys Johnson Jan. 1, 1943, in Red Wing. She died March 26, 1996.
He was an active member of the National Farmers Organization since it started in 1961. He was instrumental in the daily operations at the Ellsworth NFO collection site from 1972 when it opened until his death. He also was a dealer for Vigortone Feed Company for many years. He was an active member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Esdaile, and the Pierce County Historical Society. He enjoyed farming and working with animals.
He is survived by: two children, Allen (Pam) of Hager City and Janet (Bruce) Griffey of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Glenn (Marion) of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Carl (Edna) Wood of Bay City; and two sisters, Ruth (Harold) Stogdill of Bay City and Blanche Anderson of Esdaile.
Preceding him in death were: his wife; one son, Gary; one brother, Walter; and one sister, Jane.
Funeral was Saturday at Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Esdaile, with the Rev. Carol Peterson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Arvid Schwake, Jim Vinge, Jerome Maier, Bill Brookshaw, Stan Johnson and Rodney Bechel. Visitation was Friday at Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home.
Memorials are preferred to the church.

Ervin L. Fletcher, 81
Ervin L. Fletcher, age 81, of Red Wing, formerly of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Fairview Seminary Home, Red Wing.
He was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Pierce County, the son of Ralph and Florence (Linstrom) Fletcher. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Marjorie Northrop Nov. 7, 1953, in Nevada. He lived in Santa Maria, Calif., for many years. He worked as a typesetter for the Los Angeles Times for over 30 years. He returned in 1995, where he has lived at the Seminary Home since.
He is survived by cousins.
A memorial service will be held in Santa Maria at the Elks Club at a later date. His cremated remains will be interred at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth.

Larry Newman, 50
MAIDEN ROCK - Larry W. Newman, age 50, Maiden Rock, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1949, in Red Wing to Willmar and Barbara (Savage) Newman and attended Red Wing Central High School. He worked at Red Wing Shoe Company for more than 25 years.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Apostolic Gospel Church. He enjoyed fishing, flying and woodworking.
He is survived by: his mother of Red Wing; and two brothers, Fritz of Stockholm and Jeff of Zumbrota, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Joey.
Funeral was to be Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Molberg officiating. Burial was to be in Old Frontenac Cemetery, Florence Township, Minn. Pallbearers were to be: Robert Bach, Harlan Hanson, Dave Lewis, Joe Payzant, Gary Stai and Bruce Terwilliger.

Lyle H. Dahling, 67
HAGER CITY - Lyle Herman Dahling, age 67, Red Wing, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Fairview-University Medical Center, Minneapolis.
He was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Goodhue County, Minn., to Edward and Edna (Schultz) Dahling and graduated from Red Wing Central High School.
He served in the U.S. Armed Forces from Nov. 13, 1951, to Nov. 1, 1954, in Korea. He married Marilyn Nadeau Nov. 1, 1952, in Nashua, Ia., and they lived in Red Wing. He started as a plumber for Klair and Gilbertson in 1963 and currently was working for Ed's Lakeside Country Plumbing in Lake City, Minn. His wife died Oct. 14, 1980. He married Lois Wangen Feb. 14, 1981.
He was a member of the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post where he was past commander, a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post and was a retired volunteer firefighter for the Red Wing Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by: his wife, Lois; his children, Susan (John) Marquardt of Red Wing, Beverly Chawk of Tampa, Fla., Mark (Pam) of Jacksonville, Fla., James of Red Wing, Cheryl (Chuck) Klair of Red Wing, Susan (Michael) Holm of Edina, Minn., Michael (Esther) Wangen of Hager City, Janine (Mark) Sararli of Stockton, Calif., Tom (Linda) Wangen of Grove, Okla., and Lisa Miller of Red Wing; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Janice) and Joe (Linda), both of Red Wing; and one sister, Ardis (Gerald) Limbert of Woodbury, Minn.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for one hour before the service Thursday at the church. There will be a Legion prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Danny C. McDonnell, 49
MAIDEN ROCK - Danny C. McDonnell, 49, Maiden Rock, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.
He was born Nov. 15, 1950, in Lake City, Minn., to Jess and Rose (Angell) McDonnell and graduated in 1969 from Plum City High School. He married Janet King May 12, 1973, in Plum City. He worked for the West Group, Inc., in Eagan, Minn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and swimming.
He is survived by: his wife; four children, Jeremy (Melissa) of Lake City, Minn., Chad (Joy) of Red Wing, Trevor of Plum City and Calli McDonnell of Maiden Rock; three grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Gary, Kim, Mitch, Jim, Mike (Melody), Mary (Robert) Langhans and JoAnn (John) Flatjord, all of Red Wing, Sandy (Ronald) Williamson of Hager City and Terry (Elaine) of Maiden Rock.
Preceding him in death was one brother, William.
Funeral was Saturday, Dec. 4 at Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Donald Shilts officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in St. John's Cemetery, Plum City.

Joann F. Berg, 59
PRESCOTT - Joann Florence Berg, age 59, of Lakeland, Minn., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the Linden Care Center in Stillwater, Minn., after an extended illness.
She was born in River Falls, June 17, 1940, the daughter of Henry and Florence (Andrle) Langer, attended Big River Grade School and graduated from Prescott High School in 1958. She was employed by the Credit Bureau of St. Paul, Robertson Drapery Manufacturing in Hudson and, most recently, was a claims associate for the Wal-Mart store in Hudson, from which she was on medical leave. On May 1, 1965, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big River, she was married to Robert Anthony Berg.
She enjoyed playing cards, reading, gardening, cooking, camping and old-time dancing. Most dear to her heart was her family and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake St. Croix Beach, Minn., and a former member of Homemakers in Lakeland.
Surviving are: her daughter, Denise Berg of Lakeland; two sons, Ronald (Molly) Berg and Michael Berg, both of Lakeland; two grandsons, Joseph and Thomas; two sisters, Judy (Donald) Hermann of Lindstrom, Minn., and Rosie (Dick) Brookshaw of Prescott; two brothers, Alvin (Geri) Langer of Prescott and Donald (Doris) Langer of River Falls.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband, Robert Berg, in 1997; a son, Craig Berg; and a sister, Marlais Langer.
Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Dec. 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake St. Croix Beach with the Rev. Thomas Hallsten officiating. The organist was Roger Burg and the vocalist, Jane Cowley. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeland, where pallbearers were: Kevin Langer, Brian Hermann, Joe Brookshaw, Harlyn Puhrmann, Don Brunchorst and Bill Berg. Memorials are preferred to the family.

Odell Bune, 87
SPRING VALLEY - Odell Bune, age 87, of Lindstrom, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, after a five-year battle with cancer. Her tremendous strength and will to live has been an inspiration.
As a young woman, after working hard at several occupations, she became interested in the retail business. Her first shop was in Spring Valley. In 1949, she moved to Lindstrom and opened "Pandora's Dress Shop." Along with her husband, Allen, she successfully operated this business until her retirement in 1979. They continued their commitment to the Chisago County, Minn., area through projects at their church and Pandora's Haven at the Parmly Residence.
She is survived by: her husband of 45 years, Allen; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, longtime friends and supportive customers.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, Henry and Cecilia Beaudry; brothers and sisters, Gilbert, Lucille, Verna, LeRoy and Lorraine.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Raymond Rickles Tuesday, Nov. 23, at St. Bridget Church, Lindstrom. Music was provided by Mary Jo Zgonc and Dan Ford. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery.
Keith A. Peterson, 51
Keith A. Peterson, age 51, of Ellsworth died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born May 6, 1948, in Red Wing, the son of Helmer and Ethel (Bowen) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
He married Marjorie Hillman Oct. 14, 1967, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church parsonage. He has been employed by the Ellsworth Creamery for the last 29 years.
He loved gardening, fishing, cutting wood, his new puppy, Kitty, and most especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by: his wife, Marjorie of Ellsworth; two children, Brenda (Terry Lindstrom) Reyes, Maiden Rock, and Allen (Laura) Peterson of Wausau; five grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Irene (Ken) Van Allen of Hager City, Wayne (Bonnie) Peterson of Beldenville, Janice Peterson of Dubuque, Ia., and Tom (Judy) Peterson of Menomonie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jeremiah Lindstrom.
Funeral services were to be held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ellsworth. Rev. J. Keith Trembath was to officiate. Interment was to be in the church cemetery.

Harold W. Freudenberg, 79
Harold W. Freudenberg, age 79, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home in Placentia, Calif., after a five-year courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in St. Paul on May 26, 1920. He graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School in 1938.
He is survived by: his wife, Jeanette; two daughters, Rory (Chad) McWilliams and Gail (Barry) Loomis; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Dec. 5 at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Diamond Bar, Calif.
Genevieve M. Erickson, 92
DIAMOND BLUFF - Genevieve Magdalen Erickson, age 92, of Diamond Bluff died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at Ellsworth Care Center.
She was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Clayfield, the daughter of Michael and Caroline (Baker) Huppert.
She attended country school in Conroy. She worked as a domestic in Red Wing. She married Harry Erickson in Clayfield on Sept. 8, 1931. They farmed in the Pierce County area. She worked at the La Grange Shoe Company in Red Wing for 10 years. She worked at the Hager Heights Drive Inn. She retired and was a homemaker in Diamond Bluff. She resided in the Ellsworth Care Center for the past year.
She enjoyed sending greeting cards, photography, dancing, singing and playing the piano.
She is survived by: one daughter, Caroline Rollo of Magalia, Calif.; two sons, Harvey J. Erickson of Hastings, Minn., Wallace ("Dearie") Erickson, of Hager City; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by: one infant son, Albert; and one grandchild, David Erickson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, with Father John Beckfelt officiating at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big River. Burial will be in the Diamond Bluff Cemetery in Diamond Bluff Township. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice. Pallbearers are: Dan, Kevin, Mike, Wally and Nick Erickson, John Johnson and Tim Magee.
