Nila M. Nelson
Nila M. Nelson of Osage, Iowa died Friday May 15, 1998 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. She was 64.
She was born June 30, 1933 in Cambidge, Minn., the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Buchholtz) Johnson. She moved with her family to Ellsworth in 1943 where she attended schools and graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School. She moved to Osage in 1972 and was employed as a dispatcher with the Mitchell County Sheriff's Dept. and a switchboard operator at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. She retired in 1996. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas (Kelly) of Zumbro Falls, Minn., and Kert (Natalie) of Fairbault, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were held at on Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Internment of cremated remains will be in Svea Lutheran Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Myrtle Anna Louise (Casper) Bemis Hampton
Myrtle Anna Louise (Casper) Bemis Hampton of Woodville, WI died Sunday, May 17 at Myrtle Werth Hospital Menomonie, after a short illness.
She was born January 31, 1908, the daughter of August and Anna (Dehnhoff) Casper in the Town of Lucas, Dunn County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie and was presently a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.
On October 22, 1921 Myrtle married Glenn Bemis. They were blessed with 11 children. Glenn died in 1947.
On December 13, 1958 she married John Hampton. Myrtle enjoyed flowers and birds and always had a dog as a pet.
Preceding her in death were her parents August and Anna Casper; her first husband Glenn Bemis; one daughter Arlene Judkins; one son Louis Bemis; sons-in-law George Whirry and Donald Johnson, and an infant brother Richard.
Survivors include her husband John of Woodville; 6 daughters and 3 sons; Ethel Whirry of Spring Valley; Betty Johnson of Baldwin; Robert Bemis and his wife Ann of Spring Valley; Shirley and her husband Derald Zimmer of Beloit; Marvin Bemis and his wife Shirley of Spring Valley; Margaret and her husband Gerald Neidermyer of River Falls; Darla and her husband Howard Nordine of Sauk Centre, Minnesota; Donald Bemis and his wife Patricia of Osceola; and Laurene and her husband Dan Traynor of Star Prairie; one brother James Casper and his wife Eula of Woodville; 33 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Rev. Martin Wegner officiated the service and music was provided by organist Kathy Brown with congregational singing. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Menomonie.
Bearers were Kim Hofacker, Stanley Bemis, Brad Traynor, Paul Neidermyer, Dennis Whirry and Mark Neidermyer.
Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley handled arrangements.

Shirley Brownell
Shirley Brownell died Saturday, May 16, 1998, in Enterprise, Ala. She was 80.
She was the daughter of Earl and Anna (Holt) Brown of Ellsworth.
She married David Brownell June 21, 1938. He died March 10, 1997.
She is survived by: two daughters, Gail (John) Doerr of Wharton, Tex., and Brenda Warren of Enterprise, Ala.; and one sister, Nancy (Donald) Forss of Ellsworth.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, David; parents, Earl and Anna; and three brothers, John Earl, Stuart and Roger.
Internment of cremated remains was in Westley Chapel Cemetery in Enterprise.

Kimberly M. Wahlberg
Kimberly M. Wahlberg, North Hudson, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Hudson hospital emergency room after being taken there by ambulance. She was 34.
She was born on Sept. 1, 1963, in River Falls, the daughter of Allan F. and Marlyce (Nestrud) Huppert. She attended grade school and graduated from Prescott High School. She was employed at Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) in the COBRA center (Total Compensation Resource Center).
She was married on Sept. 25, 1985, in River Falls to Glenn Wahlberg. She enjoyed volleyball, swimming and landscape design and planting. She was always taking care of other needs before herself. She also enjoyed spending free time with her family, whom she loved very much.
She is survived by: her husband Glenn and children Nicholas and Ashley of North Hudson; parents Allan F. and Marlyce Huppert of Prescott; sister Kathy (Kris) Kullman of North Hudson; grandmother Carmen Huppert of Ellsworth; in-laws Gus (Gerry) Wahlberg of Hudson, brother-in-law Greg (Melody) Wahlberg of Hudson and sister-in-law Gwen (Dan) Christensen of Pittsburg, Calif.
Funeral service was held Saturday, May 23, at United Methodist Church in Hudson with Pastor Nustad officiating. Jodell Krause was organist with congregational singing. Interment was in Willow River Cemetery with Casketbearers Dan Jansen, Pat Cleveland, Todd Paulson, Jody Smith, Randy Smith and Bob Swenson.
Memorials are preferred. Arrangements were by O'Connell's Family Funeral Home, Hudson.

Helen Marain Dewey
Helen Marain Dewey of Deer River, Minn., died Saturday, May 9, 1998, in Duluth, Minn. She was 83.
She was born June 19, 1914, in Ellsworth.
She is survived by: one daughter, Linda Jacobson of Bigford, Minn.; four sons, Everett Platta of Lockport, Ill., Richard Dewey and Robert Dewey, both of Deer River, Donald Dewey, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, May 13, in Bethany Lutheran Church in Deer River. Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Deer River.

Bill E. Gilles
PLUM CITY - Bill E. Gilles of Plum City died Friday, May 22, 1998, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, Elmwood. He was 73.
He was born Dec. 23, 1924, the son of John and Bertha (Ebensperger) Gilles. He was raised and lived most of his life in the Plum City area, except for three years, when he lived in St. Paul. He served in the U.S. Army and was in the Active Reserves for five years.
He married Joyce Fisher May 24, 1949, at the Ono Methodist Church, rural Maiden Rock. He spent most of his working life as a farmer and a milk hauler.
He is survived by: his wife, Joyce; one son, Stanley (Karen) of Roberts; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne of Plum City; and one sister, Lorraine Houser of St. Paul.
He was preceeded in death by: his parents; one daughter, Debra Dettling; two sisters, Lutrel Hannon and Leah Knudsen; and one brother, Gail.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Plum City Union Cemetery, Plum City. Pastor Goldie Bundy will officiate.
Arrangements were by the Rhiel Funeral Home, Durand.

Marcelle Bernice Heise
ELMWOOD - Marcelle Bernice Heise of Elmwood, formerly of Ellsworth, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home. She was 80.
She was born Oct. 23, 1917, to Frank and Grace (Marsh) Brookshaw of El Paso Township.
She married William C. Heise on Oct. 26, 1935, in Stillwater, Minn. They owned the Corner Grocery in Red Wing before moving back to El Paso Township and farming for many years. They retired in 1976 and moved to Hager City. He died in May, 1981.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, a former Sunday School teacher and Woman's Guild president. She was very active in the Pierce County 4-H program and was a founding member of the Club 72 homemaker, a Red Cross volunteer and a member of the St. John's Hospital Auxiliary. She was an honorary member of the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Club.
She is survived by: three sons, Lester (Janice) Heise of Ellsworth, Howard (Ardith) Heise of Menomonie and Frank Heise of Boise, Id.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband and three brothers, Archie, Max and Harry.
A memorial service was held Monday evening, June 1, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ellsworth, with Pastor J. Keith Trembath officiating. Interment was at the Burnside Cemetery in Red Wing.

Kermith F. Gernentz
Kermith F. Gernentz of Red Wing died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at Hi-Park Care Center. He was 79.
He was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Hay Creek Township to William and Emma (Kuehl) Gernentz and attended school in Hay Creek. He married Myrtle Flynn June 23, 1942, in Ellsworth.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He worked for more than 30 years at S.B. Foot Tanning Company. A lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion, he also belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, National Rifle Association and Red Wing Wildlife League. After retiring, he made numerous wooden projects for his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by: his wife; one daughter, Rebecca (Steve) Stone of Colville, Wash.; one son, Gaelyn (Ruth) Gernentz of Balaton, Minn.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Vincent and Alden.
Funeral was Wednesday, May 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Edmundson, Jacob, Richard, Thomas, Timothy and William Gernentz.
Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson Mahn Chapel, handled arrangements.

Lillian June Boesch
Lillian June Boesch of Red Wing died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Vencor Hospital in Golden Valley, Minn. She was 72.
She was born June 24, 1925, in Hartland Township to William and Tina (Johnson) Greske. She married Irvin Pofahl in 1942 in Red Wing, and he died Oct. 2, 1960. She married Clarence Boesch March 25, 1967, in Red Wing, and he died April 4, 1987.
For many years, she worked at Red Wing Shoe Company and was a nurses aide at various places. She was a member of United Lutheran Church.
She is survived by: two brothers, Edward (Dolores) Greske of Red Wing and Clarence (Verna) Greske of Ellsworth; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Donald Parent.
Preceding her in death were: her two husbands; one daughter, Sandra Pofahl; four sisters, Helen Greske, Mildred Herman, Louise Anderson and Florence Larson; and three brothers, Harry, William and Carol Greske.
Funeral was Wednesday, May 27, at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with the Rev. Andrew Smith officiating. Burial was in Trenton Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Gayl Greske, LeDean Larson, Steve Ottman, Bernard and Ronald Larson, and Donald Parent. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Marlene Anne Lewis Carr
PLUM CITY - Marlene Anne Lewis Carr of Long Beach, Calif., died on Monday, May 11, 1998.
She was formerly of the Plum City area (Lewis Hill). She was the daughter of Nora (Kohl) Lewis and Lawrence (Jack) Lewis. Local people may remember her as a young school girl who played the trombone and wore her hair in two long braids that reached her waist. She had worked as a computer programmer.
She is survived by: one daughter, Susan (Joe) Batarse, and one son, Brian (Shelley) Carr; two grandchildren, Casey and Jamie Carr; her mother, Nora Lewis who lives at 343 Chapman St., Roseburg, Ore., 97470; two sisters, Janet Williams of Ashland, Ore., and Evelyn Carlson of Long Beach; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.

James Allen Seymour
RED WING - James Allen Seymour of Red Wing died Saturday, May 30, 1998 due to injuries received in a car pedestrian accident on Hwy. 63 in Trenton Township. He was 37.
He was born Oct. 17, 1960 in River Falls the son of Donald and Geraldine (Goulette) Seymour, Sr. He attended Ellsworth schools and for a number of years worked at Red Wing She Company. He then moved to Texas where he lived for three years and then moved back to Red Wing where he worked various jobs, most recently at Riveria Cabinets. He enjoyed fishing, camping and helping out other people.
He is survived by his parents, Donald and Geraldine Seymour, Sr.; one brother, Roger (Patti) Seymour of Hager City and one sister, Wendy (John) Arden of Hager City; seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one nephew, Zachariah Seymour.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Brian Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Bay City Cemetery in Bay City. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be John Arden, Greg and Robert Goulette, Chris Matzek, Ronald O'Conner and Al Waleski.
