JANESVILLE --- Pauline Stevens-Bushaw, age 81, of 1424 S. Willard Ave. died Tues. June 3, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. She was born on Aug. 8, 1921 in Moline, IL. the daughter of August and Anna (Gustavson) Alstrand. Pauline married
William Stevens in 1963 in Chicago, IL., he died in 1988. She then married
Gordon C. E. Bushaw on April 15, 1989 , he died on Aug. 14, 1996. Pauline was a member of Orchard View Alliance Church, Faith Builders, and the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela E. Barker of Janesville; 5 grandchildren: David, Jill, Abby, Rachel and Danielle.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Ronald Lord officiating. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME.
Armstrong, William R.

WINDPOINT, WI -- William R. Armstrong, age 74, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Mr. Armstrong was born in Charleston, IL, on Oct. 10, 1926, to William B. and Marguerite (Kraemer) Armstrong and came to Racine in 1969. He married
the former Rose A. Sollami in Aurora, IL, on June 23, 1946. Mrs. Armstrong preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1992. Mr. Armstrong had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and a PhD in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Johnson Wax Retirees, and had been active in the Stephens Ministry.
Survivors include 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert (Julia) Armstrong of Milton, and Ronald Armstrong of Denver, CO; a granddaughter, Rebecca Armstrong; a sister, Sara Sanders of Auburn, CA; and a brother-in-law, Philip Sollami of Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Armstrong is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Mr. Armstrong is tentatively scheduled for Sun., Oct. 28, 2001, at 4 p.m. at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1015 Four Mile Road, with Rev. Robert Scheuermann officiating. Private family interment will take place. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at church on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 3 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Purath-Strand Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
McMullin, Ronald R.

JANESVILLE/PARKER, AZ -- Ronald R. McMullin, age 68, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at his home in Parker, AZ. He was born on August 24, 1933 in Janesville, the son of Leslie and Emma (Koehler) McMullin, and graduated from Janesville High School in 1953. Ronald was a lifelong Janesville resident; after his retirement he started spending his winters in Parker, AZ. Ronald married
Ilona Pelnis on August 8, 1959 in Janesville; she died May 16, 1974. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Rock County, retiring in 1988. Ronald belonged to the Rock County Deputy Assoc., Moose Club and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by 3 children: Ronald (Michelle) McMullin of Oregon, Tanya (Ed) Madison and Linda Roeber, both of Janesville; a granddaughter, Danielle; 2 grandsons, Parker and Garrett; a sister, Evelyn (Marvin) Martin of Carson City, NV; a brother-in-law, John Pelnis of Whitewater; special friends, Ben and Marcey Hight of Parker, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Iliff Garber.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Richard Inglett officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME.

JANESVILLE --- Norman L. Simons, age 55, of 629 Caroline St., died Tues., June 10, 2003 at home. He was born in Gratiot, WI on Feb. 9, 1948, the son of John and Marian (Linderman) Simons. He graduated from Gratiot High School in 1966 and moved to Janesville in 1967. He married
Pat Komprood in July of 1967 and they were married
for 17 years. Norman later married
Jacquelyn Miller on Oct. 27, 1990 in Rotary Gardens. He worked as an operating engineer for Rock Road and Frank Brothers. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Operating Engineers Local 139, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn; 3 daughters: Tami Simons, Pamela (Eric) Jacobson and Tina (Tony Macias) Simons all of Janesville; a step-son, Richard (Vicki Adsit) Wessels, Jr. of Janesville; 3 grandchildren: Lindzy Kotthaus, Devin Kotthaus and Mitchell Jacobson all of Janesville; mother, Marian Simons of Janesville; 6 brothers: Wayne (Vicki) Simons, Dean (Tammy) Simons both of Wild Rose, Jim (Amy) Simons of Beloit, Gene (Elaine) Simons, Donnie (Linda) Simons both of Freeport, IL and John Simons of Texas; 3 sisters: Vicki (Keith) Carpenter of Almond, WI, Joanne (Jerry) Hale of Browntown and Corine Joy DeFrane of Freeport, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Bonnie Thiry; 2 brothers, Ralph and Edward Simons.

Grabowski, Edward Thomas

DARIEN -- Edward Thomas Grabowski, age 87, formerly of Darien, died Fri., May 31, 2002, at Lakeland Medical Center, Elkhorn, following a brief illness. Edward was born July 20, 1914 in Chicago. He was the son of Thomas and Sophia (Bartosiewicz) Grabowski. He proudly served his country in World War II, and on Jan. 25, 1947, he married
Catherine Kleinhuizen in Chicago. She predeceased him in 1995. Edward and Catherine moved to Wisconsin in 1953, where they farmed for many years. Edward was also a lifetime union carpenter and member of Janesville Carpenter Local #836. After his retirement in 1978, he continued to do woodworking, making and repairing furniture and crafts. He was a longtime member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Delavan.
Edward is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Gary) McClaren of Janesville; a son, Lawrence (Debbie) Grabowski of Darien; grandchildren, Kathy (Mike) Farrey of Janesville, Joseph (Miranda) Grabowski of Elkhorn, Jessica, Jenny, and Jackie Grabowski of Darien; and great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Stephanie, and Alexandria Farrey of Janesville and Becca Grabowski of Elkhorn. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, and his brothers and sisters.
The family has honored Edward's wishes and graciously donated his body to the University of Wisconsin Medical School for Alzheimer's research. Memorials may be made in Edward's name to the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute at UW Medical School. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

JANESVILLE --- Warren Paul Tapovatz, age 75, died peacefully at home on Jan. 3, 2004. He was born Dec. 22, 1928 in Janesville to Rudolph and Anna Tapovatz. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1946 and served in the U. S. Army from 1946 - 1950. He was a member of the Janesville Police Department in the early 1950’s, and worked for the W. R. Arthur (JATCO) Co., Norwood Mills and Dana Corp before retiring from the Rock County court system in May of 1991. He married
Barbara Larson Finnane on Dec. 22, 1978. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Anna Tapovatz; brother, Webster; sister, Shirley (Richard) Bronwell; and father-in-law, Leonard Larson.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; step-daughter, Patricia (Jeffrey) Woodman; grandsons, Andrew and Axel Woodman; granddaughters, Ashley and Allissa Woodman all of Verona and Caitie and Jessie Finnane of Janesville as well as mother-in-law, Joan Larson of St. Petersburg, FL and brother-in-law, Tom Larson of Tampa, FL.
He will be sadly missed be friends and family and his special little dogs, Molly and Misty.
Funeral Services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Wed., Jan. 7, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church, Janesville with Rev. James Melvin officiating, followed by burial at Milton Lawns. PALMYRA -- Charles Paul Balk, age 68, of Tamarack Road, died Mon., Oct. 29, 2001, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 14, 1933, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Weslow) Balk in Pennsburg, PA. He moved to the Dousman area and resided with his aunt and uncle, Suzanne and John Schmidt. He joined the Marine Corps. and served in the Korean conflict. He married
Kathleen Marsh on March 19, 1955, in Sullivan, WI. He was employed at Wern Farms, he was a self-employed bulk milk hauler for Dean's Foods, worked for the Palmyra Police Department and the Palmyra Public Works Department. Upon retirement, he was employed part time by the Blue Springs Lake Management District. He was Town of Palmyra Constable for 30 years, retired member of the Palmyra Fire Department, life member of the Tri-County Marine Corps League, Palmyra Lions Club and life member of the Whitewater V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; 3 children: William (Joan) of Palmyra, Robert (Debra) of Eagle, Lisa (Peter) Griep of Whitewater; 4 granddaughters: Stephanie Balk, Brooke, Carlee Balk and Molly Griep; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; mother-in-law, Martha Marsh and many cousins; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; aunts; uncles and father-in-law, Kenneth Marsh, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Nov. 2, 2001, at ST. MATHEW LUTHERAN CHURCH in Palmyra. Pastor Steven Blyth will officiate with burial at St. Mary's cemetery in Palmyra with full Military Honors. Marie Schjoth on Jan. 26, 1990, in St. Charles, IL. Jerry owned and operated the Algonquin Glass Co. of Algonquin, IL for over 28 years, retiring in 1998. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jerry was a member of the Algonquin American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; 5 children: Judy Sorenson of Algonquin, IL, Jerry Jr. and Beverly Harding, both of Crystal Lake, IL; Debbie Michaelis of Lake in the Hills, IL, and Barbara Taube of Holland, MI; 10 grandchildren; a brother and 5 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Graveside services with military rites by the Elkhorn American Legion and VFW are to be held at 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 20, 2001, at Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Tibbets, WI, with the Rev. Dr. Wallace Christen officiating. Arrangements were completed by Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home of Elkhorn, WI.

JANESVILLE --- Joseph G. Skarweski, age 84, of Janesville, died Fri., Jan. 9, 2004, at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Janesville on Dec. 21, 1919, the son of Michael P. and Flora C. (Grant) Skarweski, graduated from Janesville High School in 1939, and had been a life-long Janesville resident. Joe served in the US Army AirCorp as an airplane mechanic during WWII. He was a delivery driver for Robinson’s Cleaners and had previously driven for Shurtleff Ice Cream Company. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, life member of VFW Post 1621 where he was well known as a flag folder for Military Rites and was also a life member of the Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent #9. Joe enjoyed bowling and listening to sports, especially the Cubs.
He is survived by his 2 sisters, Emma Lentz of Edgerton, and Ila (Frank) Jahr of Beloit; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Raymond and Gaylord Skarweski.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tues., Jan. 13, 2004, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service. DELAVAN -- Ruth E. Morrison Bickham, age 94, of 1025 S. Second St., died at Willowfield Nursing Home, Delavan on Oct. 23, 2001. Ruth was born on Aug. 31, 1907 in Louisiana, the daughter of Frank and Ruth Webster. She married
Joseph Morrison in Louisiana; he predeceased her. She then married
Elijah Bickham; he died in 1964. Ruth received her associate degree in Culinary Arts in 1933. For over 20 years, Ruth owned and operated Glady's Chicken Shack in Delavan. She also had a barbequed ribs and chicken stand at the Walworth Co. Fair for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Delavan United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women. She will be fondly remembered for her warm, loving nature, her penchant for dressing beautifully, and her designer hats.
She is survived by her 3 sons: Frank (Paula) Morrison of Chicago, devoted son, Nord Morrison of Delavan, Albert (Dorothy) Morrison of Nashville, TN; a daughter, Neomi Morrison of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her 2 husbands, her best friend, Bill Sharp; 2 sons, Joseph and Charlie; 4 brothers and 12 sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Fri., Oct. 26, 2001, at the BETZER FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Cynthia Kristopiet officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery. JANESVILLE --- Marie A. Connor, age 89, a resident of rural Janesville, died at St. Elizabeth Home in Janesville, on Sunday, January 25, 2004. Marie was born on May 2, 1914 in Janesville to John F. and Mary (Tobin) Connor. She was a Charter member of St. William Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s Club; and a member of the Over Fifty Club. She worked at Parker Pen Company, retiring in 1980, and was a member of its Rubber Workers Union. She was also a member of the Johnson Bank Encore Club and the Rock River Community Card Club. Marie enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Ireland. She also enjoyed visits from her nieces and nephews, and attending Janesville Little Theatre productions. Marie was deeply religious and showed strong faith. She didn’t always have an easy life, giving up and sacrificing much to help on the family farm.
She is survived by 2 sisters, Margaret Wellnitz of Clinton and Ann Connor of Janesville; and nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters: Elizabeth Connor, Helen Wellnitz, Rita Connor; and 2 brothers, John and Joe Connor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at St. William Catholic Church, Janesville with Fr. John Auby officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Friends may call at St. William Catholic Church from 11:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of services. Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home, 1800 E. Racine St., is serving the family.

Bishop, Dorothy Ann Rusk Geddes

JANESVILLE/VIROQUA -- Dorothy Ann Rusk Geddes Bishop, age 76, died at her home in Janesville on Thurs., Oct. 25, 2001 after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on Oct. 15, 1925 in DeSoto, WI to Seymour and Ruth (Powell) Rusk. She lived in West Salem, LaCrosse and Viroqua. On Aug. 12, 1945, she married
Roy B. Geddes, Jr. They farmed in the Viroqua area until 1952 when they moved into Viroqua. Mr. Geddes died on Aug. 8, 1957. Dorothy then went to work and became an announcer and writer for WISV radio station in Viroqua where she was one of the original employees. She continued to work there until 1963. On July 15th, 1960, she married
Paul Bishop. She had worked at St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse and Verex Assurance Corporation in Madison before her retirement due to failing health. Dorothy loved to sing and shared her talent at church, weddings, funerals and other events. She also was an excellent seamstress, a trait she inherited from her father and grandfather who always put family first. We will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; a son, Stephen Roy Geddes (Lynn) of Cincinnati, OH; a daughter, Vicki Nell Geddes Bouziane (Thomas) of Janesville; 4 grandchildren: Emil Geddes of Philadelphia, PA, Andrew Geddes of Cincinnati, OH, Alexander "Alex" Bouziane and Katharine "Katie" Bouziane, both of Janesville; her brothers and sisters: Louise McFarland (Daryl) of Algoma, IA, Ella Elaine Hall of LaCrosse, Harold Jerry Rusk (Cecelia) of Myrtle Creek, OR, Bonnie Lewis (Elwood) of Hebron, IN, Lawrence K. Rusk (Peggy) of Hayward, Donald Rusk (Gladys) of Kokomo, IN; her very dear sister-in-law and friend, Nellie Geddes Doerr of Janesville; 2 sisters-in-law, Ilda Geddes Zitzner of Viroqua, Iola Geddes Larson of Maysville, MO; a brother-in-law, Gerald Bishop (Doris) of Wildwood, FL; other relatives and special friends, Donna Hutter and Kathy Young. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; a sister, Carol Rusk; a brother, Clarence "John" Rusk. A special thank you for the care provided by Hospice, Jeff Popp, Tammy Pence and Blanche Franke. Also thanks to the many friends from the Roxbury Church of Christ, Cedar Acres Adult Day Care, Mercy Adult Day Care, Alzheimer's Support Center, Peg Slaybeck and Fr.
