JANESVILLE - Alberta McCarthy, age 75, of 2214 W. State St., died Sun., Dec. 29, 2002, at Mercy Hospital. She was born in Elizabethtown, KY, on Aug. 19, 1927, the daughter of Doc and Mary Elizabeth (Grimes) Hatfield. She married
George M. McCarthy in Elizabethtown and moved to Janesville in June 1960. Alberta was a brownie and Girl Scout leader for years when her children were young. She loved quilting, birdwatching, and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, George; 5 children: Joanna (Norman) Jenson, Daniel (Joann) McCarthy both of Janesville, Timothy (Chris) McCarthy of Footville, Vivian Alexander of Janesville and Lisa (Dennis) Hatteberg of Twin Lakes, WI; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Anna Jane Johnson of Hodgenville, KY; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Christopher Fiedler; 2 brothers, Joe and Felix Hatfield; and 2 sisters, Inez Sanders and Mary Bewley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs., Jan. 2, 2002, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale R. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. OTTAWA - Brian R. Stevenson, age 32, died on Fri., Oct. 19, 2001 in a work related accident at work in Naperville, IL. He was born on May 5, 1969 at West Allis, WI, the son of Gerald Richard and Joyce Marie (Salzman) Stevenson Sr. He married
Anna Johanson of Norberg, Sweden on Dec. 18, 1999 at Las Vegas, NV. They had been Illinois residents for the past 18 months, moving from Indianford, WI. He was a graduate from underwater welding school in New Jersey. He had been employed by MRW, Inc. of Naperville, IL as a welder. Sergeant First Class Stevenson had been a member of the U.S. Army National Guard since Sept. 29, 1987, joining at Racine. He had served in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm and was a volunteer for recent active duty. He taught at Fort McCoy as a Paladin Instructor.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; proud father of 2 daughters, Keisha Marie and Casey Ann, both at home; his parents, Gerald R. Stevenson Sr. of Milwaukee, Joyce (David) Heussner of Fort Atkinson, WI; 3 brothers: Gerald R. STOUGHTON - Amy Stokstad, age 85, passed away on Sat. morning, Nov. 3, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital in Edgerton. She was born on March 2, 1916 in Fort Atkinson, the daughter of the late William and Lydia (Graf) Truax. Amy was a 1933 graduate of Edgerton Senior High. She attended the Columbia School of Nursing and the Milwaukee State Teachers College. Amy married
Harvey Stokstad on Jan. 1, 1945 in Dubuque, IA. Together with her nephew Eldon Johnson and wife Nira, they co-founded the Coachman's Inn and Golf Course in Stoughton. They also farmed in Albion Township for many years, wintering in Arizona for the last twenty-five. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and an associate member of Central Lutheran Church in Arizona City, AZ.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Laura Stokstad of Stoughton, Christine (Gerald) Johnson of Janesville, Shelia Johnson (Kevin McGinn) of Madison; a son, Eric (Margery) Stokstad of Stoughton; 12 grandchildren: Casey, Joel, Clint, Lydia, Travis, Amber, William, Kaitlin, Thaddeus, Ingrid, Christian and Isabel; 5 great-grandchildren: Corryn, Lauren, Ashlyn, Alexander and Nicholas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey on March 17, 1990; a sister, Laura in 1931; and a son, William in 1953.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tues., Nov. 6, 2001 at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH in Stoughton. Rev. Bill Lehman will officiate, and burial and will be in Wheeler Prairie cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Coachman's Resort in Stoughton. The family will greet guests on Monday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Stoughton.

MILTON/JANESVILLE - Anna K. Scott, age 82, of 4521 Plantation Ln., died on Monday, April 24, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home. She was born in Bear Valley, Avoca, WI on June 24, 1923, the daughter of John C. and Hazel A. (Schoonover) Lasse. She married
Ralph G. Scott on Jan. 26, 1944; he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1985. Ann and Ralph owned Scotty’s Bar and Restaurant from 1950 to 1971. She worked for Bishops from 1971 until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Elk’s Club and the Loyal Order of Moose. Ann enjoyed cooking and made sure no one went away hungry.
She is survived by her 3 children: John (Charlene) Scott and Rick (Susan) Scott both of Janesville and Nancy (Howard) Wagner of Milton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rose (Fred) Berger and Vera (Jim) Stillmank both of Janesville; and 1 brother, John “Jack” (Mildred) Lasse of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sons, Jerry and Mike; and daughter, Judy at birth.

Jean Thompson April 23, 1960 at Faith Lutheran Church. They moved to Clearwater, FL in 1967, where he was employed at Bob Lee's Garage, Paul Howard's Body Shop, and Gary Bower's Drywall. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #191, Beloit, WI.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jean; a daughter, Julie (Jerome Lemens); a nine month old granddaughter, Carolyn Strandlie Lemens of Alexandria, VA; his father, Leif Strandlie, a brother, Dennis, both of Janesville; his mother-in-law, Mavis Thompson of Janesville; a sister-in-law, Janis (Ray) Bradley of Randolph, WI; a brother-in-law, Clair (Christine) Thompson of Whitewater; uncles and aunts, Charles (Rosemary) Heise of Spring Hill, FL, Stanley (Ruth) Heise of New Port Richey, FL, Carroll Everson of Lubbock, TX, Marilyn (Sherman) Heise, Ruth (George) Heise of Janesville; nieces; nephews and cousins. Robert J. Tuite in 1945 in Janesville; he died in 1985. She had been employed as a waitress at Charlie Adamany's Restaurant and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Cathy (Dale) Brown of Janesville, Jeannie Marie Tuite of Pomona, CA; 2 grandchildren, Laura (Eliseo) Rodas of Janesville and Diane (Fred) Helmbrecht of San Diego, CA; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ben Christopherson of Janesville; 2 sisters, Alice Blackburn of Rockford, IL, and Mary (Dave) Harms of Monroe, WI.

JANESVILLE - James J. Van Acker, age 70, of 5141 N. Harmony Town Hall Rd., died on Tues., Oct. 23, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was born on May 17, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of James and Manie (Schoefer) Van Acker. He married
Mathilda Matelski. He lived in Janesville for the past 32 years, coming from Milwaukee. He served 22 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant, and then retiring after 20 years of government service. He worked as an inspector for fuel/control GS 11 at Woodward Governor. He loved airplanes, hunting, spending time with his family, and he loved being in the outdoors. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Milton.
He is survived by his wife, Mathilda of Janesville; 4 sons: Paul (Vicky) of Belvidere, IL, James of Ft. Atkinson, Quin (Cindi) and Curt (Cindy), both of Milton; 3 daughters: Donna Van Acker of Milton, Teresa (Loren) Deaton, and Diane (Orrin) Nelson, both of Janesville; 19 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald (Jean) of Whitewater, WI and Richard (Julie) of Canyon City, CO; a sister, Dorothy Van Acker of Lannon, WI. He was preceded in death by a son, John Van Acker in 1974; his father in 1991; and mother in 1987.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Fri., Oct. 26, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Milton, with Msgr. Jim Uppena officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary cemetery, Milton. Friends may call Thursday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, Milton, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A visitation will also be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.

John Keating in 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1960. She later married
George Viney in 1965 and he preceded her in death in 1975. She had been employed as a cashier/bookkeeper for the City of Chicago Board of Education, working at Tilden High School until moving to Janesville. She then worked as a clerk at the Park Avenue Grocery until her retirement. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She also was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary of the Kienow-Hilt Post 1621.
Marcella is survived by 2 children, John Keating, Jr. of Chicago, IL and Patricia (Tom) Daly of Berwyn, IL; 2 stepdaughters, JoAnn Schmitz of Janesville and Jean (Paul) Meicher of Bloomfield Hills, MI; a sister, Bernice (Joe) Nolan of Chicago, IL; a stepsister, Loretta Mayer of Schaumburg, IL; 3 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ida Gannon and Ruth Mahoney; a granddaughter, Susan M. Galbrecht; and by a son-in-law, William Schmitz.
A memorial mass in celebration of Marcella's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 30, 2001, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Fr. Daryl Furlong officiating. Private interment will take place in St. Mary's cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL at a later date. Friends may call on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of mass at 1:00 at ST. Vogel, Mabel H.

MILTON - Mabel H. Vogel, age 83, passed away early Sun., Oct. 28, 2001, at Memorial Community Hospital in Edgerton. She was born on April 27, 1918, the daughter of Esther Kraus. She graduated from Janesville High School. She married
Ira C. Vogel on Oct. 22, 1938; Ike predeceased her on Sept. 24, 1988, just weeks shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they farmed their Otter Creek dairy farm, where Mabel remained living until her recent hip surgery. She was a member of the Otter Creek Community Club. While farming and raising their children, she was also employed at Helgeson Harvestore from 1957 to 1967. She later earned her nurses' aid certification and worked many years in Long Term Care at Edgerton Hospital. Mabel's huge vegetable garden was her passion, and she took great pride in canning and preserving the harvest. She enjoyed several hobbies, and her dozens of crocheted afghans are loved by many area friends and relatives. Her cherished deer hunters have enjoyed her fabulous cooking and homemade bread for years.
She is survived by her 4 children: Jackie (Stan) Judd, Jr. of Pine Island, FL: Sandy (Dave) Wenham of Fort Myers, FL, Charlie (Kathy) Vogel and Vicki Vogel of Milton; 4 grandchildren: Gretchen (Jeff) Cottrell of Cape Coral, FL, Stanley Judd III of Bradenton, FL, Michael Vogel of Milwaukee, and Susan (Jon) Leonard of Downers Grove, IL; 2 great-grandsons, Trevor and Devin Cottrell; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband; a sister, Betty Garlock.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Glenn Skatrud at 11 a.m. on Fri., Nov. 2, 2001, with visitation on Thursday evening, from 5 until 7 p.m, both at ALBRECHT'S FUNERAL HOME, Milton. Burial will be at Otter Creek cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.
