Jose M. Cruz, age 80, died Friday April 17, 2009 surrounded by his family at home. He was born July 30, 1928 to the late Apolinar and Rosa (Gutierrez) Cruz in Cruce De Guayacanes, Dominican Republic. Jose enlisted and served in the D.R. Marine Corp. until his honorable discharge. He married Luz O. Ramirez on September 17, 1984. Jose was a wonderful, caring and protective father and husband. He dedicated his life to his family and providing for them. Jose and Luz enjoyed traveling together and hosting family celebrations. Jose worked all his life as a livestock dealer until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Luz Cruz; six children, Silvio (Lucy) Cruz, Fior Cruz, Robert (Rena) Cruz, Jackie (Miguel Rodriguez) Cruz, Luis Cruz, Emmanuel Cruz; ten grandchildren, Joldany, John, Samantha, Miranda, Hiliana, Silvio, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Carol, Joalissa & Ronel. He is further survived by five sisters, Pura (Nilo) Castro, Gloria Cruz, Altagracia Cruz, Ramona Cruz, & Orfelina Cruz; four brothers, Nilvio (Magnolia) Cruz, Apolinar Cruz, Miguel Cruz & Ramon (Angela) Cruz and many friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.
Jose’s Funeral Service will be 4:00 PM Tuesday April 21, 2009 in the SCHOENFELD-MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. Tulio Duran officiating. Viewing and visitation will be on Tuesday in the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Muriel Pecotte
Clinton
Muriel Pecotte age 82 of Clinton, WI, died Thursday March 19, 2009 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born December 6, 1926 in Chicago, IL the daughter of John and Lydia (Bueker) Prazak. She married Keith Pecotte on March 31, 1977 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2006. Muriel was a lifelong resident of Clinton. As a young adult, Muriel assisted her parents on their family farm. Remarkably, she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1948 from the University of Wisconsin and completed her education at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1951. She worked tirelessly for nearly 60 years as a local Attorney and was well known as an excellent & tough but fair lawyer. Muriel was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and member of the Rock County & Wisconsin Bar Association. She was active with the Twentieth Century Club, Eastern Star (Floral Chapter #108, Clinton) and the Women of the Moose (Chapter #100, Harvard)
She is survived by her daughter, Aileen Geffs of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Keith.
Muriel’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday March 23, 2009 at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 312 Church, Clinton with Reverend Neddy Astudillo officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at Church from 10:00 until the time of service. The cortege will process to Clinton Cemetery for interment.
Norma J. Buchholz
Marshfield
Norma J. Buchholz 81 of Marshfield, WI, died Saturday March 14, 2009 at the Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby, WI. She was born September 25, 1927 in Heart Prairie, WI the daughter of Henry and Emma (Kienbaum) Schmidt. Norma was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Whitewater. She attended the North Heart Prairie one room country school until the family moved to Avalon in 1938. Norma was confirmed in 1943 at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Clinton and she graduated from Clinton High School in 1945. She was night telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell in Beloit and Evansville. Although she was an operator for Wisconsin Bell, she was always engaged in farming. After her father’s death, Norma’s mother purchased a farm west of Janesville, where Norma and her mother farmed with the help of brother-in-law Art Nelson.
In 1958 Norma married Raymond Buchholz and they farmed in Center Township and Indianford. Raymond died in 1977. In 1984 Norma moved to Clark County where she farmed in partnership with Harold Garbisch. After Harold’s death in 1991, she continued to farm until 1997 when she retired to Marshfield. Norma was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield.
She is survived by a step daughter, Vicki Buchholz, Caledonia, IL, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews great great nieces and great great nephews. She was the surviving member of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Walter and two sisters, Arvilla Shuman Fenrick and Mildred Nelson.
There will be a visitation Thursday March 19, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Rembs Rundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, WI with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.
Norma’s Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 22, 2009 at CHRIST EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 High Street, Clinton with the Rev. William Uffenbeck officiating. Friends will be received on Friday, March 20, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Schoenfeld-Mark Funeral Home, Clinton and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to Heart Prairie Cemetery for interment.
Arvilla G. Schaefer

Arvilla “Gerry” Schaefer 91 of Beloit, WI, died Saturday March 14, 2009 at Beloit Health and Rehabilitation Center, Beloit, WI. A Beloit resident since 1921, she was born March 4, 1918 in Mauston, Wisconsin, the daughter of William P. and Iva Elsie Hopkins Breneman. She married Harvey J. Schaefer on June 27, 1936 in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on February 14, 1984.
Arvilla and her husband owned and operated Beloit Saw Filing on Third Street for many years retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, cooking, and punch work and especially her family.
She is survived by her sons, Russell Schaefer of Roscoe, IL and Stanley (Sandra) Schaefer of Beloit, WI and her daughter, Judith (John) Smith of Beloit, WI; eight grandchildren, Russell (Debra) Schaefer, Jr. of South Beloit, IL, Kimberly Jones of Rockton, IL, Sheri (Jamie) Stanek of Beloit, WI, Terri (Douglas) Sparks of Houston, MN, Michael (Teri) Schaefer of Wabasha, MN, Brian (Shannon) Smith of Janesville, WI, Bradley (Michelle) Smith of Beloit, WI, and Jennifer (Jason) Seeman of Janesville, WI; 21 great grandchildren and (3) great great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Beloit Health and Rehab for the care given to our mom, Arvilla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harvey, granddaughter, Lisa Babcock, daughter-in-law, Dolores Schaefer, great grandson, and three sisters, Mary Dziewior, Mazie Barton and Rose Hanson.

Marvel Lois Mattox

Marvel L. Mattox, 86 of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit, WI. She was born July 16, 1922 in Slater, IA, the daughter of William and Inger Severtson Powell. She was Valedictorian of Slater High School in Slater, Iowa and married Carroll Mattox on November 20, 1940 in Polk City, IA. He predeceased her on May 10, 2001. She and her husband were active participants in the start up of the People’s Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School. Marvel was a volunteer for many organizations including R.S.V.P at Beloit City Hall, Rock County Fair and the Grange of Turtle Township. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, sketching landscapes, crafts and baking cookies for family and friends.
Marvel is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Ralph) Bovee of Beloit, WI, Karyn Schultz of Ft. Collins, CO; three sons, Stephen (Carol) Mattox of Lubbock, TX, Ronald Pettit of Rockford, IL and Daniel Mattox of Beloit, WI; 11 grandchildren, Cynthia Bovee, Candace (Michael) Johns both of Beloit, WI, Jeffrey Bovee of Thailand, Melany (David) McGrath of IN, Sheryl (Lee) Gasparik of W. VA, Derek (Johanna) Schultz of CO, Colleen (Andy) Keppley of PA, Brian Mattox of TX, Brandon (Jamie) Mattox of TX, Patricia Austin of WI and Luke Mattox of Beloit, WI; 23 great grandchildren and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carroll, a granddaughter, Krista, a great granddaughter, Brittany and her sister, Linda Lou Powell.
Marvel’s funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, in the People’s Church, 340 W. Grand Avenue, with the Reverend Ron Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Friends may greet the family from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2009, in the SCHOENFELD – MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI and on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service in the People’s Church.
A memorial fund has been established in Marvel’s name to People’s Church Mission Fund.
Anna Mae Spence

Anna Mae Spence, age 83, died Wednesday February 25, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. She was born May 6, 1925, in Clinton, WI, the daughter of Emil and Inga Anderson Sommers. Anna Mae was a 1944 graduate of Clinton High School and a lifelong member of Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church. Anna Mae was employed by Fairbanks Morse & Company where she met Bruce Spence whom she married on November 9, 1946 in Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church. He predeceased her in 1989.
She is survived by her two daughters, Margie (Randy) Lawler of London, England and Dail (John) Shepherd of Clinton, WI; nine grandchildren, Marc Lawler, Wendy (Gene) Krizmanich, Aaron (Eileen) Lawler, Luke (Andrea) Lawler, Jennifer Beeman, Phoenicia (Ger) Van Veen, Erin Shepherd, Joy (Francois) Badinier and Kristina Lawler; 11 great grandchildren, Ashley, Caleb, Eden, Kenzie, Lily, Iona, Nathan, Maddox, Jonah, Ivy and Maya; a brother, Roy Sommers; a sister, Esther Kemmerer and many nieces and nephews.
“You touched many people, Gram, and we are so grateful that you were in our lives. A big piece of our hearts are missing now. We hope we can carry on your legacy with as much grace and caring. Love You!!”
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bruce; a great granddaughter, Jessica Lawler, and two brothers, Larry Sommers and Edwin Sommers.

Friends will be received Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the SCHOENFELD – MARK Funeral Home 504 Milwaukee Road, Clinton and again on Saturday at Church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The cortege will process to Jefferson Prairie Cemetery for interment following Anna Mae’s service. All are welcome to join the family for luncheon and fellowship after the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Anna Mae’s name to Beloit Regional Hospice and Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church.
Joyce Loretta Fluck

Joyce L. Fluck, 84 of 2121 Pioneer Drive, Beloit, WI, died Monday, February 23, 2009 in Premier Health and Rehabilitation Center, Beloit, WI.
She was born October 12, 1924, the daughter of Eric and Alma Adams Broadstone. Joyce married Arthur Howard Fluck on December 21, 1946. He predeceased her on May 11, 1981. She was a teacher and substitute teacher in the Beloit School district for many years. Joyce was a Bridge player extraordinaire and a tough challenger of Trivial Pursuit.
She is survived by her two sons, Arthur E. Fluck and Jeff S. Fluck both of Beloit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Shirley Grater.
Joyce’s Memorial Service will be 5:00 P.M. Friday, February 27, 2009, in the Schoenfeld-Mark Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1000, Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI. Friends may call from 3:30 P.M. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. A luncheon will be served in the Reflections Room in the funeral home immediately following the memorial service.
