Knickmeier, Berdus W.
(July 26th, 1912 - January 29th, 2011)
Berdus W. Knickmeier, age 98, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Nazareth House in Stoughton. She was born in Middleton on July 26, 1912, a daughter of Emil and Mathilda (Hiney) Jungbluth. Berdus was united in marriage to Wilbert Knickmeier, who preceded her in death in 1990. Berdus worked as a housekeeper as several UW sorority and fraternity houses. She was a hard worker, and a devoted grandmother. She enjoyed baking for family events, gardening and crocheting. She won the Most Grandchildren' award at Nazareth House in 2009, and at age 96, won a National embroidered art award. She is survived by a son, Wilbert (Marjorie King) Knickmeier; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Jim) Tjugum, Randy (Maria) Knickmeier, Candace (David) Sarbacker, Steve (Sally) Knickmeier, and Greg (Chris) Knickmeier; 10 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Alta) Jungbluth; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Wesley; brothers, Emil and Elmer; and sisters, Agnes, Carrie and Berdell. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 11:30 am at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington St., Stoughton, with the Rev. Richard Halom officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona. The family will greet friends at church on Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Special Thanks to the Staff at Nazareth House.

Scholz, Viola V.
(April 7th, 1914 - January 29th, 2011)
Madison, WI -- Viola V. Scholz (nee Lindgren), born April 7, 1914 in Marvin, South Dakota, died on Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Madison, WI. Vi was first of nine children of Carl V. and Alma V. (Swanson) Lindgren. She was married to Philip R. Dickie from December 28, 1938 until June of 1954, and to Harold F. "Bob" Scholz from June 14, 1958 until February 10, 1994. Vi grew up in Watertown, South Dakota, subsequently living in Little Falls, Minnesota, Rhinelander, Wausau and Shawano, Wisconsin. She returned to Watertown after Bob's death; then lived her last six years in Madison, WI. Vi is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. "Bobbie" Dickie of Madison, WI; grandson, Richard A. Dickie; step-son, John F. Scholz (Teddi) of Highland Park, IL; their children, Matt (Mia), Amanda (Paul) and Beth (Matt); and John's four grandchildren. She is further survived by three siblings, Shirley (Gene) Shields; Phyllis (Pharis) Johnson and Joann (Bob) Hubbard. In addition, she is survived by 34 nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bob; and five siblings, Gladys (Treb) Williams, Lester (Thelma) Lindgren, Virginia (Sid) Rund, Doris (Chuck) Kosier and Lois (Jerry) Roesch. A graveside service and interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, WI at a later date.

Biddick, June I.
(November 29th, 1925 - January 29th, 2011)
June I. Biddick, 85 of Madison passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Meriter Hospital, while recovering from an illness. June was born November 29, 1925 in Adrian, ND, daughter of John Schrader and Emma Valenta. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Biddick of Livingston, WI on November 4, 1944. June was a proud homemaker, caring for her two daughters Judy and Myra during their school years. She later worked for 15 years for Upjohn Corp. as a nursing placement coordinator. June is survived by her daughters Judith (Ed) Bellin of Cortland, Ohio and Myra (Tom) Dricken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her four grandchildren, Lisa and Matthew Bellin of Cortland, Ohio, Michael Dricken and Jennifer (Amgad) Zaghloul of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and two great-grandchildren, Joey and Norah Zaghloul of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. June was preceded in death by her brother Richard Schrader (Betty) of Fennimore and is survived by their children, Roger (Rosemary) Schrader of Milton, Debrah of Platteville and Sandra of Madison. Funeral services will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison on Thursday, February 3nd, 2011 at 10:30 AM. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service and internment will be at Rock Church Cemetery, Livingston, following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers or donations, it is requested that you join the family in remembering and celebrating June's life.

Steensen, Ginger M.
(December 4th, 1945 - January 30th, 2011)
Ginger M. Steensen, age 65, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at home. She was born December 4, 1945 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Glenn and Dorothy (Ritz) Meyer. On June 27, 1964, Ginger was united in marriage with Martin Steensen in Towas, MI. Survivors include her husband Martin of Evansville; a daughter Dorothy (Ryan) Nelson of Waunakee; 4 sons: Mark and Dwayne both of Madison, Luke of Evansville and David (Chris) Steensen of Barneveld; 23 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Glennette (fiance Rich Pederson) Meyer of Waunakee and Summer Paz of Arizona and 2 brothers: Darryel (Anita) Meyer of AZ and Jerry English of Genoa City. Ginger was preceded in death by a daughter Kristen Beeman and a sister. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 4 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME where friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service. Elder Galen Morrison will officiate. Boehm, Iola Mae
(January 30th, 1928 - January 30th, 2011)
Iola M. "Dolly Gage" Boehm passed away on her birthday, January 30, 2011, after an extended illness caused by dementia. She was born to Lois (Hambrecht) and Frank Gage in 1928 in Madison.
Dolly was well-known among musicians in the Madison area as "Dolly Gage, alto saxophone." Beginning in the Madison West H.S. band, and playing in an all-girl dance band in the Madison area starting in the years of WWII.
In 1956, Dolly married David Boehm and followed and supported him through a variety of job and career changes in: East Troy, WI; Rockford, IL; Niagara Falls, NY; Elmira, NY; Dayton, OH; Petoskey, MI; Madison, WI; and Westerville, OH.
Dolly had a very active career as a volunteer in different states with the Republican Party including Chairperson of local Party headquarters, managing campaigns and conducting seminars for local candidates. She served in three different states as a field representative for John Connelly's presidential campaign.
In her most recent move to Madison, Dolly was very active in a local Rotary club as a fund raiser and volunteered for a variety of Community Service functions.
Dolly successfully divided her attention and efforts between politics and her son, Jeff's, education. She was chairperson of a campaign to raise funds for Jeff's high school band to fly to Florida and appear in the DisneyWorld Parade. She did her best to make sure that he received the best at home, in public schools and in higher education which included Otterbein College and the University of Wisconsin where he earned a PhD in Music Education.
The problems of Dementia required Dolly to be admitted to the care unit in Birchaven Village, Findlay, OH, in 2009. In spite of memory loss inherent with Dementia, Dolly developed a reputation among the care-givers for her extrovertish personality.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents and only brother, Carlton. She is survived by her husband, David; son, Jeffrey and his wife Kimerley; and grandchildren, Aaron, Meghan and Ryan.
Dolly's remains will be cremated and held for a memorial service at the Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave. Madison, WI 53704. Interment will be in the North Windsor Cemetery at a date this summer to be determined. Correspondence prior to that may be sent to David Boehm, 15100 Birchaven Ln, Apt 208, Findlay, OH 45840.
A memorial has been established for the university where Jeff is the band director. Donations may be sent to Bluffton Music Dept, "Dolly Boehm Memorial Gift," Bluffton University, 1 University Dr., Bluffton, OH 45817-2104.

Guetzkow, Mary Jean
(June 5th, 1940 - January 30th, 2011)
Madison - Mary Jean (Koecke) Guetzkow, age 70, passed away January 30, 2011 at HospiceCare, Inc. after a long battle with Diabetes and Renal disease.
Mary Jean was born in Prairie Du Chien, WI on June 5, 1940. She was active in sports and was a cheerleader at the Prairie Du Chien high school. Mary Jean married Clarence Guetzkow on October 6, 1962. Mary Jean provided day care for her children and the neighborhood children for several years. As her kids grew older, she worked as a housekeeper at Oakwood Village Nursing Home and Meriter Hospital.
Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Clarence Guetzkow, Madison, WI, her children Marc (special friend JoAnn Kenne) Guetzkow, Unity, WI and Kathryn (Andy) Elkins, New Glarus, WI., a brother Ethan (Joyce) Koecke, Wauzeka, WI, grandchildren Ethan and Emily Elkins, New Glarus, WI., and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her mother and father, Eugene and Mary (Steiner) Koecke.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation and service on Friday, February 4, 2011 at MIDVALE LUTHERAN CHURCH. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. There will be a luncheon at the church after the service. Strasbaugh, Gwynneth Louise
(July 2nd, 1925 - January 31st, 2011)
Madison - Gwynneth L. Strasbaugh, age 85, died on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, with her children by her side. She was born to Pierce and Eleanor (Williamson) Timmis July 2, 1925, in Douglaston, New York. She grew up in Wayne, Pennsylvania, attended Radnor High School and earned a degree in art and advertising from Penn State University where she met her husband, Richard. They married in 1947.
Gwynneth and her husband, who worked for the U.S. Forest Service, lived in the Ozark, Washington-Jefferson and Allegheny National Forests before moving to the Washington, D.C. area, finally settling in Madison in 1958.She was an active volunteer all her life. Gwynneth was a Scout leader, a member of the League of Women Voters and a long-time member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where she served the community in numerous ways, from visiting the homebound to making meals for those in need. Gwynneth will always be remembered as a wonderful neighbor, a good friend and a loving mother and wife. She is survived by her children Kathleen and Joan of Madison, Louise (San Francisco), Richard and his wife Susan and their daughter Alyssum (Colorado Springs) and her sister Jean Gould (West Chester, PA). She was preceded in death by her husband, her sister Norah Grubmeyer, her father, her mother and her stepmother Mary Timmis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3910 Mineral Point Rd. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Independent Living, Inc., 815 Forward Dr., Madison, WI 53711, attn: Support. The family is grateful to the caregivers at the Haven for their love and kindness and to the volunteers and providers who helped her along the way.

McClain, Robert "Bob" F.
(February 23rd, 1948 - February 1st, 2011)
Robert "Bob" F. McClain, age 62, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. Bob was born February 23, 1948 to Lowell and Minnie (Capacio) McClain in Madison. Bob graduated from Madison West in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in England, Germany, Italy, and Libya. Bob will be remembered as caring, loving, gentle, and generous, friendly and quick to make you smile. He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike. Bob is survived by his sisters Winnie (Willy) Huffman of Hutto TX, Sandy (Joe) McNamee of Stoughton, Susie Montney of Waukesha, brothers John (Peggy) McClain of Janesville and Tom (Cathie) McClain of Columbus, and many other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Ellen McClain Parker. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI., with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at VA Hospital for their care and support for Bob over the years.
