Hoff, Carl Richard
(October 26th, 1922 - February 2nd, 2011)
Carl Richard Hoff, Sr., age 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 in Fort Atkinson. He was born in Stoughton on October 16, 1922, a son of Carl F. and Louise (Peterson) Hoff. He was united in marriage to Donna Klein in San Antonio, Texas on February 2, 1948. Carl graduated form Stoughton High School in 1942, where he was active in boxing and football. Carl was a WWII Veteran who served his country in the military for 23 years, and was very proud of his service. Carl started out in the Navy, serving in the South Pacific Theater, re-enlisting in the Army Air Corps, and serving the rest of his career in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1965. In addition to the South Pacific, Carl served in Korea, Turkey, as a recruiter in Pennsylvania, and as a training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Later he worked as a correctional officer, retiring from that, he went to work with the Montello School District and retired from the district as well. While working, Carl also grew tobacco for a time. He was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a Brewers and Packers fan. Carl loved spending time with his family, especially with children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Donna; 7 children, Ron ( Nancy) Hoff, Sharon (Jim) Luchsinger, Lloyd (Sandi) Hoff, Pat (Phil) Anderson, Carl (JoAnn) Hoff, Jr., Tim (Darcie) Hoff, and Jeff (Amy) Hoff; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Rubin, Charles (Florence) and Bill Hoff. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl, Oscar, and Robert Hoff; sisters, Virginia Skavlen West, Lucille George, Ruth Nelson, Dorothy Osterburg, Loraine Holcomb, and Betty Ree; and his mother and father in law. Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, where the family will greet friends from 11:00 am until the time of service. Luncheon at the VFW Hall in Stoughton will follow services.
Gibson, Delores M.
(September 4th, 1923 - February 9th, 2011)
Madison - Delores M. Gibson, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on September 4, 1923 in Almond, WI, the daughter of Ezra and Murna (Trickey) Rath. She was united in marriage to Stanley F. Gibson on March 7, l942 at Almond, WI. She is survived by her children Sandra Kavanaugh, Linda Gibson, James Gibson (Sue), Barbara (James) Harrison and Bonnie (Kenneth) Beilke; six grandchildren, April Pake, Richard Hansen, Michael Hansen, Jennifer Hansen, Jeffrey Harrison, Kimberly Harrison, Luis Medaris and five great-children Chayse Pake, Justin Pake, Madison Pake, Madison Hansen and Mason Hansen. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Stanley and her brother, Donald Rath. Private funeral services for the immediate family and Oakwood residents will be held at Oakwood Village East, Tree of Life Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive Madison, on Wednesday, February 16th at 11:00 with Rev. Doug Locken officiating. A visitation will be held at Oakwood Village East on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Oakwood Foundation or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Burke, Joseph Patrick
(January 13th, 1940 - February 9th, 2011)
Madison - Joseph "Joe" Patrick Burke, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Wed. Feb. 9, 2011 of Sarcoidosis at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Jan.13, 1940 to Thomas and Ruth (Donovan) Burke in Madison. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Grade School, Edgewood High School and the University of Wisconsin. He volunteered for the draft and was a member of The US Army Security Agency from 1962-1964. Joe worked for Aetna Casualty Insurance Company and retired in 1994. Joe was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Joseph is survived by sisters, Ruth Church of Batavia, IL, Ellen Burke of Madison, WI, Margaret Pachter of Berwyn, IL, brothers, Thomas Burke of Seymour, WI, and Michael Burke of Madison, WI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Gerald Stephen Burke and brother-in-law Skip Church. A Funeral Service will be held at Cress Funeral Home on Feb.12, 2011 at 12 noon with Msgr. Thomas Baxter presiding. A visitation will take place from 10am until the time of service. Memorials may be made to Dane County Humane Society.
Boyd, Gerald L.
(April 3rd, 1936 - February 9th, 2011)
McFarland - Gerald L. Boyd, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Marianne's Elder House. He was born in Reedsburg on April 3, 1936, the son of George and Juanita (Meyer) Boyd. Gerald graduated from Sparta High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served two years. Following his honorable discharge he worked for the U.S. Post Office in Los Angeles for 25 years. In November 2003 he moved to McFarland and quickly settled at Marianne's Elder House. Gerald loved animals and frequently walked Penny around McFarland. He enjoyed flowers, reading history books, music- especially Frank Sinatra, and was a very talented artist. Gerald is survived by five siblings, Ken (Barb) Boyd of McFarland, George (Erlinda) Boyd of Reedsburg, Loreen (Dave) Dopkins of Reedsburg, Barbara (Allen) Koch of Richland Center and Judy Mieur of Pardeeville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Janet and Jane. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in McFarland. Burial will follow in the Lower McFarland Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services Monday. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. Herrin, Gilbert
(June 5th, 1962 - February 10th, 2011)
Gilbert "Mark" Herrin age 48 of Waunakee passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Michigamme, Michigan. He was born on June 5, 1962 in Elmhurst, Illinois. The son of William and Barbara Herrin. He married Catherine Durkin on February 24, 1995 in Marquette, Michigan. After growing up in Lombard Illinois Mark attended Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology and then transferred to Lewis University graduating with a degree in airport management and philosophy. He then went on to achieve his commercial airline pilot license while working at American Flyers as a mechanic and instructor. After flying with American Eagle for many years he joined United Airlines as a pilot flying 727s, and Airbus's. He was an active member of the Airline Pilot Association. Mark loved outdoor activities including, but not limited to camping, sailing, fishing, golfing, swimming, hiking, geocaching, downhill skiing, sledding with his sons, archery. and his new found love of waterparks. Mark died doing what he loved - snowmobiling, at the home of his heart - the UP. Although flying was his life long passion, and few have the privilege to do it for a living, being in the UP among nature in all seasons was his heart and spirit rejuvenating joy. Mark's love of the UP was shared by his wife Catherine. She was the love of his life and he was the love of her life. He was a wonderful husband. Mark and Catherine shared many passions but particularly that of being the best possible parents to their two wonderful boys. Mark was the best dad ever. His sons were the center of his life and he made all efforts to be the kind of father he knew they deserved. Although a grown man he was still a child at heart when it came to spending time with his sons and his sons friends. He loved showing them the wonders of his many hobbies. He also provided guidance and assistance in all of their endeavors. He loved watching his boys swim and could not have been prouder of their achievements. Mark wholeheartedly dove into supporting and assisting the success of his eldest son Christopher in his first year of scouting. He shared a deep passion for all things mechanical - particularly snowmobiles - with his youngest son Alex. Mark is survived by his loving wife Catherine Durkin-Herrin and his two sons Christopher and Alex, his parents Barbara Herrin, William Herrin (Fran), his brother Steven Herrin, and his uncle Bill and aunt Pat, his mother in law Marguerite Durkin, brother in law Dan Durkin (Liz) his nieces and nephew Emily, David, Clare, Laura, Sarah, his sister in law Ruth-Margaret Durkin and too many dear friends and extended family to list. He was preceded in death by his father in law James Durkin. Funeral services will be held on Wed. Feb 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call at the Winn-Cress Funeral in Waunakee on Tues. Feb 15, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Friends may also call at the church on Wed. from 10:00a.m until the time of services. The family asks that you please consider organ and tissue donation. Mark made a difference in up to 50 people's lives with his donations.
SanFillippo, Patricia Ann
(March 13th, 1924 - February 10th, 2011)
Our beloved Patricia ( Butler) SanFillippo passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Pat was born March 13, 1924 in Evanston, Illinois to Jerome Butler, a Civil Engineer, and Eleanor (Troost) Butler, one of the first kindergarten teachers. Pat was a graduate of UW Madison, where she obtained her Master's degree. She taught Spanish and English at Oconomowoc High School and Edgewood High School in Madison. Her love and devotion to teaching and inspiring her students gave her great joy throughout her life. Pat married Sam SanFillippo in the University Chapel in 1946. They raised their family in Madison. For many years she assisted her husband, Sam, with the operation of Fitch Lawrence SanFillippo Funeral Home, the oldest Funeral Home in Madison, established in l849 by Demming Fitch. Sam continued operations of the funeral home after Edward and Selma Lawrence. The funeral home is now owned by Cress Funeral & Cremation Service. Patricia was an avid bridge player her entire life, enjoyed playing the violin and entertaining her 9 great-grandchildren. She was one great wife and mom and there's not a day that will go by that she will not be missed. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Sam; daughters; Melanie (Fred Petrie) SanFillippo of Milwaukee and daughter Ellie SanFillippo-Ketelsen of Madison; grandchildren Jon (Kelsey) Petrie, Michael (special friend Sasha) Petrie, Stephen (Joree) Ketelsen, Sam (special friend Mandi) Ketelsen and Sarah (special friend Nick) Ketelsen; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Samuel, Lucas, Zakary, Abbi, Ellah, Camdyn, Elijah and Tessa. She is further survived by a brother, Jerome Butler of Chicago Illinois, former city architect and many other relatives and friends. There will be a Funeral Service for Pat at CRESS FUNERAL SERVICE, 6021 University Ave. on Tues. Feb. 15, 2011 at 1:00 p m. with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding along with Father Heitke. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 11:30 a. m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Pat looked for the best in everyone and her generosity and compassion were unsurpassed. May her spirit live forever in the hearts of those left behind.
Sergenian, Mina Lee
(May 2nd, 1959 - February 10th, 2011)
Mina Lee Sergenian, 51, Madison, WI has gone to her Heavenly home after a lengthy, incredibly brave fight against cancer. Mina passed onto Heaven Thursday February 10th, 2011 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Canton, Ohio May 2, 1959, Mina lived life to the fullest, even after her diagnosis. Raised mostly in Oconto, WI, Mina went on to marry Bob Sergenian and have three amazing children and a life in Middleton, WI. The artist and creator behind the successful card line Random Thoughts from Mina Lee Studio and Minaleestudio.com, Mina's creativity not only touched her family and friends, but spread around the world with her "because it's always good to giggle" line of smile provoking cards and artwork. There really aren't enough words to describe the creative, stylistic, unique approach she took to art and life. A lover of her family, her friends, I Love Lucy, Wizard of Oz and all things fun and whimsical, Mina leaves a huge gap in our lives that will be filled with every memory of all she brought to each of us. Mina is survived by Bob Sergenian; sons, Rob Sergenian and Joe (Katlyn) Sergenian; a daughter, Kait Sergenian; a brother, Mike (Mary) Skaggs and a sister, Michele (Ray) Olson. In addition, in-laws, Robert and Sally Sergenian, aunts and uncles, adoring nieces and nephews, sister and brother in-laws, and great-nieces and nephews mourn her passing. Mina is greatly loved by many including her close friends Megan, Michael and Mary...and too many more to mention, yet they know who they are to her. Mina was preceded in death by her parents Don Skaggs and Jeanette Skaggs-Schroeder, her grandparents and her nephew Joel Olson. Friends and family may call at HOLY WISDOM MONASTERY, 4200 County Rd M. Middleton at 10 am on Thursday, February 17, 2011 for a visitation and 1 pm for a memorial service and celebration of Mina. Viken, Robert 'Bob' A
(August 25th, 1936 - February 11th, 2011)
Robert A Viken passed away on February 11, 2011. Bob was born to Alf and Thelma (Swiggum) Viken in Madison, WI on August 25, 1936. He was raised in Cottage Grove, WI and attended Cottage Grove grade schools. He attended East High School and then in his senior year he went to Westby High School where he graduated in 1954. After graduation he began work for The Democrat Printing Co (Webcrafters Printing Inc). In 1959 he was drafted into the Army for 2 years being stationed in Germany. After his discharge he returned to Webcrafters to work until his retirement in 1999. Bob was married to Barbara (Bobbie) Karow on March 7, 1959. Bob is survived by his wife Bobbie; a son William A Viken and wife Melissa. Grandchildren Christian and Katie and great-grandchild Lily. He is also survived by a daughter Christina Marie Viken-Harvey and husband Dan. Grandchildren Patsy, Molly, David, Jenny and Sophie. He is further survived by his two brothers and best friends. Donald ( Sharon) Viken and Thomas (Lynda) Viken. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Alf and Thelma Viken. Bob was granted one last pleasure when we enjoyed the Super Bowl game on February 6 and watched as the Packers prevailed. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, 3702 Cty Hwy AB, rural McFarland with the Reverend Chris Lee-Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until time of service and following the service a lunch will be served. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Relay For Life for Cancer Research in Bob's memory.
