Annen, Avis M.
(July 7th, 1918 - February 22nd, 2011)
Dane-Avis M. Annen, 92, passed away on Tues Feb 22, 2011 at her son's home in Mazomanie. Avis was born on July 7, 1918 in Lodi to Herbert and Mary (Beaver) Farris. She married Edward Annen and he preceded her in death in 2000. She was employed by the State of Wisconsin, Dept. of Revenue until her retirement in 1983. Avis enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding the birds, especially her cockatiel "Sonny" whom she taught to sing and talk and being with her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St Martin's Catholic Church in Martinsville. Survivors include; two sons, Mark (Karen Hall) of Mazomanie and Gary (Emiy) of Barneveld. Grand-children Allison Gasser, Nicole Heimbecker, Robyn Reeson, Kurt Annen, Todd Farrington, Justine Farrington, Jill Farrington, Jodi Farrington and numerous great-grandchildren. Her sisters Toddy Brereton and Karen Faye Blum. She was preceded in death by a daughter Ronnagale Gudreau, granddaughter Jackie Farrington, great-granddaughter Rylee Gasser and a daughter-in-law Debbie Annen. Funeral services will be held on Sat. Feb 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St Martin's Catholic Church 5959 St Martins Circle in Martinsville Rev Bud Hollfelder will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Sat. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr Jarzemsky and Home Health United Hospice for the care provided to Avis.
Winn-Cress Funeral Home

Fenske, Glenn S.
(November 8th, 1942 - February 20th, 2011)
Glenn Fenske, age 68, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Glenn was born on November 8, 1942 in Madison, the son of Herman and Lillian (Kehl) Fenske. On September 1, 1962, he was married to Judy Selje. They were blessed with a son, Jason, and most recently a daughter-in-law, Carly, and grandson, Caiden.
Glenn was a graduate of Madison East High School, Madison Business College, and the University of WI-Madison. He was Vice President of the Bank of Sun Prairie for 16 years and was currently a Director. He joined Royle Printing in 1984 as Vice President of Administration, retiring in 2001. In retirement he managed Sunwood Senior Apartments and became an associate of Cress Funeral Home as a Funeral Assistant. He was also instrumental in developing WoodGrove Ridge Condominiums, a premier private condominium complex in Sun Prairie. Glenn was a life member and Past President of the Sun Prairie Lions Club and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the highest form of recognition in Lionism. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #143 F & AM, Zor Shrine, ROJ #126, and Maple Bluff Country Club. Glenn was Past President of Mendota Gridiron Club and a member of the Directors Club. Long active in community affairs, he twice was President of the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Sun Prairie Improvement Council and a member for over 20 years of the Sun Prairie Utility Board. He championed support for Sun Prairie school children having served as President of the Business and Education Partnership and was the first President of the Sun Prairie Education Foundation, founded in 2004. He enjoyed golfing, cards, and was an avid UW sports fan, attending most football and basketball games.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy, of Sun Prairie, his son Jason (Carly) of Bridgeport, PA, grandson Caiden Glenn, a brother Lyle (Kathy) Fenske of Madison, nieces, nephews, other family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, at OUR SAVIORS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, with Pastor David Berggren officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME, Sun Prairie, and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sun Prairie Education Foundation or Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank Drs. James Maloney, Toby Campbell and the staff of University Hospitals for their guidance and care throughout this long journey. Also, a special thank you to the North Team of HospiceCare and the staff at the Fitchburg facility for their sensitive care and support.

Hendrickson, Lloyd Allen
(August 20th, 1931 - February 23rd, 2011)
Madison - Lloyd Allen Hendrickson passed away unexpectedly February 23, 2011. He was born August 20, 1931 in Blanchardville, Wisconsin to Bessie Peterson Hendrickson and Lloyd Almon Hendrickson. Lloyd was a devoted member of the community contributing to a variety of organizations. He was a lifetime member of the Masons and the Zor Shrine Camel Patrol. He was also a member of the Mendota Club, UW Alumni, an Elk's Club member and was a Badger Basketball Booster for many years. He was a lifetime supporter of his beloved Badgers. He was a big Packer fan and enjoyed golfing. Lloyd lived in Blanchardville before moving to Madison to attend the University of Wisconsin. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1954 until 1961. His first Madison job after his discharge was as a teller for the Bank of Madison. But, he found his real niche as salesman with Wausau Insurance Co. and worked there for 32 years, making innumerable contacts and lasting friendships all around the Madison area. Lloyd married Peggy Befus Smith on March 13, 1976. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phillip Hendrickson; and his nephew David Dobbs. Lloyd is survived by his wife Peggy, his sister Carol Hendrickson Dobbs, his children, Lance Hendrickson (Clelia), Monica Smith Gue (Fred), Derek Smith (Martha); his grandchildren, Anthony Hendrickson, Tia Smith, Destiny Smith; his great grandchildren, Amareas Smith and Kaleb Hendrickson; and his nephews Mike Dobbs, Tom Dobbs (Twylla), John Dobbs (Jill), Rick Dobbs (Daina), Niece Lori Dobbs Milliren (Jared); and 18 great nieces and nephews and Smith extended family, Kim Nachtigal (Karl), Lindsey Layton, Zachary Thomson, Sophia Nondorf, Melissa Nachtigal. Lloyd will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends. Services will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where Lloyd was a longtime member. Services will be held Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Road, Madison, WI, 53705. Rev. Tim Nybroten will be presiding. A visitation will be held prior to service beginning at 10 a.m. Memorials in Lloyd's name may be gifted to UW Foundation -- UW Marching Band, P.O. Box 8860, Madison, WI 53791-9944 or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Fauerbach, Alice Mary
(November 5th, 1922 - February 23rd, 2011)
Alice Mary (Bauhs) Fauerbach, 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Willow Pointe Memory Care in Verona, Wisconsin. Alice was born in Madison, November 5, 1922, to John and Caroline (Fleckenstein) Bauhs. A lifelong Madison resident, she attended St. James Grade School and was a 1940 graduate of Madison West High School. On September 11, 1945, Alice married Edward L. (Ned) Fauerbach, following his long awaited and safe return after being held as a P.O.W. in Germany. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Madison Catholic Women's Club, and the Dane County Chapter of American EX-P.O.W.s and DAV. Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey ( Sharon), Madison, and Steven (Cynthia), Mayville, and a daughter, Susan (William) Birkenmeier, Verona; four grandchildren; Patrick (Tina) Varney, Jeffrey (Katie) Varney, Jill (Carlyle) Beecher, and Molly (fiance, Timothy Richter) Fauerbach; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Lance, Chase and Josie Varney and Claire and Brooke Beecher. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Fauerbach, Corinne Fauerbach, and Ann Gibson all of Madison, and Mary Fauerbach, Waukesha and a brother-in-law, Walter Christensen, Madison. Alice is further survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ned (1991), her two brothers, Robert and Richard Bauhs and her sister, Phyllis Christensen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison, Friday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Ken Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Alice's name to Queen of Peace l Endowment Fund or HospiceCare, Inc.

Zaiman, Sr., Joseph Eugene
(April 23rd, 1926 - February 23rd, 2011)
Joe Zaiman died peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, of complications from colon cancer.
Joe was born on April 23, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, the third child of Samuel and Renee (Ray Levine) Zaiman. A first generation American, his parents emigrated from Odessa, Russia to Paris after the pogroms of the late 1800s. In 1915, his parents immigrated to America. Joe spent his childhood in Crompond, New York near Lake Mohegan.
Joe enlisted in the United States Navy in April, 1944, and saw service in both World War II and the Korean Conflict as an Air-Controller First Class stationed in China. Discharged in April 1949, he was called back into service during the Korean Conflict and served on the USS Bairoko, a small escort aircraft carrier.
Joe was staying with his sister in Los Angeles when she arranged a blind date with the back-door neighbor's younger sister. It was love at first sight on August 18, 1949, when Joe met Ellen Connor. They were married on May 14, 1951, at St. Patrick's Rectory in Madison. Their happiness extended more than thirty years, ending only with her death on July 24, 1981.
Joe worked for Burroughs Corporation for many years, selling accounting equipment to regional businesses. He was a partner in one of the first retail computer stores in Madison, Computerland. In retirement, Joe worked at the Dane County Regional Airport checking boarding passes. He loved the work and looked forward to the monthly get-togethers he shared with his airport friends.
Joe spent his life committed to both his family and the Madison community. Over the course of his lifetime, Joe volunteered in many capacities. He gave his time and energy to many organizations, including the Glendale School PTA and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in the 1960s. He was also active with St. Maria Goretti Parish, Westside Optimists, Friendship Force of Wisconsin, and many other groups. In 1981, he was awarded the Silver Beaver award from the Four Lakes Council of the Madison Boy Scouts for his record of service to scouting. Joe was a founding member and chairman of the committee for the Madison High School Girls' Athletic Banquet Board, one of the first groups to recognize and reward excellence in high school girls' sports. Even as his disease progressed, he was instrumental in setting up the Cancer Support Group at All Saint's Community. He also volunteered in the Radiology Department at St. Mary's Hospital and at St. Mary's Care Center.
Joe was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ellen Connor Zaiman, and a son, Joseph E. Zaiman, Jr. He was also preceded by his parents, his sister, Florence Binder, and his brother, Herman Zaiman.
Joe is survived by his children: Cathy Olig (Dave), Clare Zaiman-Keen (Larry), Barb Slatter (Joe), and Dave Zaiman (Kim), and a daughter-in-law, Marilee Zaiman. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Mike Olig (Jill), Chris Olig, Armand Riopelle (Nicole), Chelsey Keen, Renee Keen, Chrissy Jorgenson, Sarah Jorgenson (Anthony Becknek), Rachael Slatter, Maggie Slatter, JoEllen Slatter, AnnaTherese Slatter, Elizabeth Zaiman, Drake Riopelle, and Will Olig. Joe is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who note with a smile that, at holiday dinners, he made them eat their vegetables while his daughter ate hot dogs.
Joe will also be remembered by his close friend, Bea Bretl. For the last 28 years he and Bea traveled the world together, sharing both their lives and their families. Joe became as much a part of Bea's family as he did his own.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dean Hematology and Oncology. He loved teasing you, but knew your skill and your compassion. We also wish to thank the entire staff at HospiceCare for the phenomenal support provided to Joe and his family over the past eight months. A special thank you to Heather and Laurel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe Zaiman Sr. Memorial at any US Bank location.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at St. Maria Goretti Church, 5313 Flad Avenue, Madison. Joe's family will greet friends Friday, February 25th from 4 until 6 pm at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Avenue, Madison and also on Saturday at church after 9:30 am until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Paul J. Gysbers
November 14, 1922 - April 26, 2008
Paul J. Gysbers, 85, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Comfort House in McAllen, TX. He was born on Nov. 14, 1922, in Waupun, WI, to James and Jesse (Woods) Gysbers in Waupun. He went to school in Waupun and trade school in Fond du Lac, WI. He then went to work at the West Bend Co. in West Bend, WI. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 22, 1946, he married Zelpha Smith in Colridle, WA. They moved to Horicon, WI, where he was employed for John Deere for 35 years until he retired on July 31, 1981. He was also the union Rep. for I.A.M. for 10 of those years; after retiring he started to spend the winters in Texas and summers in Milton, WI.
He is survived by his wife, Zelpha; two sons, Arthur (friend, Connie) of Livingston, TX, and Harvey (Sherri) of Fond du Lac, WI; one daughter, Shirley (Dennis) Joccord of Richfield, WI; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in Jonesville, WI. SKINNER-SILVA FUNERAL HOME of Pharr, TX, was in charge of arrangements. (956) 787-2244.

Pierce, Bonnie Jean Draeger
(January 26th, 1942 - February 23rd, 2011)
Deerfield - Bonnie Jean Draeger Pierce passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 after a brief illness. Bonnie Jean was born on a farm in eastern Dane County on January 26, 1942 to Esther and Walter Draeger. She was a graduate of Deerfield High School after attending a one room schoolhouse near her home. Later she graduated from Madison Business College, and held a real estate broker's license after attending MATC. She was later a successful real estate associate with two Madison real estate companies starting in 1987 after the sale of a printing firm she operated with her husband in Mt. Horeb. Bonnie Jean courageously endured two great tragedies in her life, the death of her only brother, Captain Walter F. Draeger, Jr., who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1965 (he was awarded the Air Force Cross for his actions) and the death of her youngest son, Nathaniel Draeger Pierce on Fathers Day, 2007. She and her husband, and her surviving son, Solon Pierce IV, co-authored a book on Nathaniel's tragic life regarding skewed required curricula and bullying in public education leading to depression and mental illness. The family constructed a web site, www.newlumenpress.com, to provide information on their book. Bonnie Jean Draeger Pierce is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Solon W. Pierce III and her son, Dr. Solon W. Pierce IV, both of Deerfield; and her sister, Beverly Kessler of Deerfield. She is further survived by her nieces and nephews, Diana (Donald A.) Imhoff, Beth Ann (Patrick) Annen, James Kessler and Walter Kessler, all of Deerfield; their children; and many cousins. Her parents and her brother preceded her in death. Burial with a private memorial service was held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
