Charles R. Skala, 81, of Washington Street, Elkhorn, WI, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Lakeland Health Care Center, Elkhorn.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 76 South Wisconsin St., Elkhorn. Arrangements completed by HAASE-DERRICK FUNERAL HOME, Elkhorn.
Ella Haas
Ella S. Haas, 87, of Eau Claire, Wis., passed away Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire, Wis.
Ella was born February 13, 1914, in Eau Claire, Wis. to Emil and Isabelle (Larson) Lund. She married Ralph N. Haas November 8, 1933, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire, Wis. Together they farmed in the town of Clear Creek for over 50 years. She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Church in Brackett, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; parents; two brothers, Ivar and Sigurd Simonson; and two grandchildren, David Jacques and Melanie Doud.
Ella is survived by her sons, Roger (Jeanette) of Eau Claire; Tom of Bloomington, Minn., and Daniel "Boone" (Carol) of Allen, Wis.; daughters, Sadie (Wayne) Jacques of Deer Park, Wis., Mary Muldoon of Eau Claire and Rose Haas of Strum, Wis.; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur (Dolores) Lund of Eleva, Wis.; sister-in-law, Catherine Christianson of Eau Claire; many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ella will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Edmund Klimek officiating. Interment will be in Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery in Brackett.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Prock Funeral Home, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to St. Raymond's Catholic Church Building Fund in Brackett.

Mary Larson
BLOOMER -- Mary L. Larson, 79, of Bloomer passed away Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Rose Garden in Bloomer.
She was born on January 14, 1922, in La Crosse, Wis., to Joseph and Sophia (Pappenfuss) Weber. She married Leonard Larson on September 22, 1948, in La Crosse. Her husband was a Veterinarian in Galesville for many years and later Mayor of Galesville. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville.
She is survived by two sons, John, M.D. (Susan) Larson of Bloomer, Wis., and James (Linda) Larson of Belleville, Wis.; one daughter, Lori (Jeffrey) Armstrong of Kohler, Wis.; one sister, Delores Phelps of Evansville, Ind.; and seven grandchildren, Timothy, Julia, Joseph, Lindsay, Bradley and Chelsey Larson and Andrew Armstrong.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Ethel Weber.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Schriver Funeral Chapel in Bloomer, with Pastor Bruce Rimmereid officiating. Burial will be at Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville, Wis., at a later date.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Schriver Funeral Chapel in Bloomer.
Kenneth Weiss
LAWNDALE, Calif. -- Kenneth E. Weiss, 52, of Lawndale, Calif., formerly of Mondovi, Wis., left this world on Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home after a long struggle with cancer.
Ken was born on May 13, 1948, in Mondovi, to LaVerne and Irene (Teela) Weiss. He graduated from Mondovi High School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to Mondovi to marry Sylvia Bloss and raise two children, Jay and Stephanie.
Ken Weiss Construction built, restored and remodeled many homes and businesses in the Mondovi area before moving to California in 1989. While in California, Ken enjoyed many more years of building homes. He had an amazing talent for his work but his passion was fishing, planting flowers, friends and his family.
Survivors include Sylvia of Lawndale, Calif.; his son, Jay (Dayna) Weiss and granddaughter, Carly of Royce City, Texas; his mother, Irene Weiss of Mondovi; six brothers, Jerry (Barbara) Weiss of Summerville, S.C., Ray (Jan) Weiss of Morris, Minn., Dale Weiss of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Keith (Annette) Weiss of Menomonie, Mike (Cathy) Weiss of Eau Claire and Don Weiss of Mondovi; three sisters, Mary (Dean) Estes of Phoenix, Ariz., Joan Loewenhagen of Mondovi and Susan (Mike) Wise of Mondovi; 16 nieces and nephews and "Special" daughter and grandchildren, Tina, Kailey and Nick Rausenberger of Mondovi.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie; his father, LaVerne; and his grandparents.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mondovi, with Deacon James Weingart officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, at Naples Cemetery, rural Mondovi. The Mondovi American Legion will conduct military rites at the grave.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service.

Leo Daken
Leo J. Daken, 77, of 2412 Garfield Ave., Altoona, died Sunday at his home.
Leo was born May 19, 1924, in Bloomer, Wisconsin, to Frank and Clara (Reischel) Daken. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46. He married Henrietta Boos February 18, 1950, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.
He worked as a car salesman in the Eau Claire area for many years, retiring in 1986. He originated the Chippewa Dutchman Polka Band. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and thrift saler.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; three daughters, Mary Stabenow of Fall Creek, Jean (Ron) Whiteside of Eau Claire and Brenda (Dennis) Fenner of Chippewa Falls; two sons, Larry Daken of Fall Creek and David Daken of Eau Claire; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Turner of Bloomer, Caroline Petersen of Corbett, Ore., Lucille (Bob) Nowak of Portage, Wis.; one brother, Edward (Mary) Daken of Bloomer; his closest friend, Vern (Nadine) Drehmel of Altoona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bob.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona, with Rev. Norbert Wilber officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Resurrection Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post #305.
Friends may call Tuesday, June 5, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., where there will be a 7 p.m. public prayer service, and Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary's Parish are preferred.

Robert Gordon
ONALASKA -- Surrounded by his loving family, Robert E. "Bob" Gordon joined his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 27, 2001. His love and strength comforted his family through his journey to be with his mother, Helen (Arndt) Frydrych; sister, Carol Snyder; our family's animals and all others who have gone before him.
Bob was born on January 25, 1923, in St. Paul to Edgar and Helen (Arndt) Gordon. He graduated from Logan High School in 1940, and was blessed with friendships that have lasted a lifetime. His friendship with Robert Sieber, "Red" Wittenberg, Scott Marshall, Wally Anderson, Hank Knebes and Bud McHugh have provided many hours of storytelling and entertainment for his loved ones.
Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Italy during World War II. He was a member of the Holmen American Legion Post.
Bob married Jessie Pfaff on March 29, 1947, at Mindoro Presbyterian Church. Bob's sense of humor, strength and commitment to his family has provided a loving bond to his wife, four children, spouses and special friends, seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Celebrating his life are his wife, Jessie (Pfaff) Gordon; son, Thomas Gordon of Eau Claire; daughters, Pat (Merlin) Kardin of Fall Creek, Nancy (Roger) Lilly of Eau Claire and Cathy Gordon (Joey Schubert) of Mindoro; grandchildren, Chad (Kerri) Kardin, Christy (Steve) Fairbanks, Craig Holter, Jodi Kardin, Kim Lilly, Darci Gordon and Drew Gordon; his brother, Richard (Norma) Gordon; and stepfather, Ed Frydrych. Others celebrating his life include great-grandsons, Adam Fairbanks and "Petrie" Kardin; and Bob's four-legged grandchildren.
Nellie Lorenz
Nellie E. Lorenz, 91, of Eau Claire, formerly of rural Alma, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
She was born September 2, 1909, in Trempealeau County, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Ayres) Brown. She married LaVerne Lorenz on February 18, 1933, in Eau Claire. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1944. Nellie worked at Crossroads Café in Eau Claire for several years. She was a wonderful Mom and loved to garden and grow flowers.
She is survived by a daughter, Lula Belle (Gerald) Sterling of Eau Claire; four sons, Delmar of Lakefield, Minn., Adrian (Barbara) of Knoxville, Iowa, LaVerne (Nancy) Jr. of Sparta, and David of Mosinee; a son-in-law, Alton Steinke of Alma; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LaVerne; a daughter, Marion Steinke; a grandson, Theodore; four brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Poeschel Funeral Home in Mondovi. Rev. Ron Stelzleni will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
