Helen Altman
Helen C. Altman, 83, of 911 Mansfield Street, Chippewa Falls, died Monday, December 4, 2000, at Lakeside Nursing & Rehabilitation, town of Eagle Point.
She was born April 15, 1917, in Bloomer, the daughter of John and Catherine (Geissler) Hable. She graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Wausau. She was a registered nurse at the Northern Center, Sacred Heart Hospital and 35 years at St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls. She married Bernard L. Altman on August 22, 1941, at Holy Hill, Milwaukee.
She served on the Board of Directors for the Chippewa Falls Senior Center, was Past President of the Eau Claire District Nurses Assoc. and Past President of AARP 3110. She was a member of the YMCA Wet Hens Club, St. Charles Church and a volunteer for numerous organizations.
She is survived by two sons, John (Linda) of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Jim (Patricia) of Chippewa Falls; three daughters, Marie (Ronald) Radunzel of Madison, Ann (Mike) Stueck of Madison and Jean (Mike) Durch of Chippewa Falls; and 15 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard L. on November 26, 1976; her parents; four brothers, Joseph, Ted, William and Louis Hable; three sisters, Eleanor Sarauer, Theresa Weimert and Sr. Emily Hable.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2000, at St. Charles Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. Eric Linzmaier will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2000, and until 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. The Ladies of St. Charles will recite the rosary at 4 p.m. and there will be a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m., both on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Frances Kurth
Frances W. (Pierce) Kurth, 91, 213 Fulton St., died Sunday at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Frances was born November 14, 1909, in Eau Claire, to Forest and Frances (Comings) Pierce. She married Oscar Kurth in Winona, Minn., in 1930. Oscar died in 1986.
She worked for George Blum and the Eau Claire Milk Producers after her graduation from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1927, and in the general office of St. Patrick's/Regis High School from 1949 until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the Guild, Brady Bunch, Mission Group, Social Concerns and Church Women United.
Frances is survived by two sons, John (Margaret) of Eatonton, Geo., and Stephen J. (Judy) of Eau Claire; three daughters, Patricia (John) Mountain of Owensboro, Ky., Jean (Richard) Danen of Richardson, Texas, and Kathryn (Donald) Draeger of Morton, Ill.; one sister, Elsie Kappus of Eau Claire; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar; three brothers, George, Arthur, and Joseph Pierce; and four grandchildren.
Frances was a special lady, mother and friend. She touched many lives in her work, service and prayers.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, December 7, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Rev. Kurt Apfelbeck officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 6, 2000, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., where there will be a 4:30 p.m. public prayer service, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Patrick's Parish, Regis High School, St. Bede's Monastery or a charity of your choice.

William Marten Jr.
FALL CREEK -- William Elgart Marten Jr., of Fall Creek, Wis., died Sunday, December 3, 2000, at Fall Creek Valley Nursing Home in Fall Creek.
William was born September 8, 1906, in Fall Creek, to the late William and Amelia Marten. William married Edna Wathke in Eau Claire on June 19, 1938. William enjoyed farming most of his life. In 1957, he moved to Eau Claire where he worked at Chippewa Motor Freight. Upon retirement, he was a school crossing guard for many years. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Eileen Korth (Joe) of Hancock, Wis., and their children, Kimberly (Dave) Zumwalt, Pamela Korth, Melissa Korth of Madison; his brother, Marvin of Fall Creek; nephews; nieces; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna; and brothers, Ernest and Edwin Marten.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at St. James Lutheran Church, Fall Creek, Wis., with pastor Doug Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Fall Creek.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Arnell Middleton
MILWAUKEE -- Arnell Middleton, 76, of Milwaukee, died Thursday, November 9, 2000, at Heartland Nursing Home in Milwaukee, after a brief illness.
She was born in Blytheville, Arkansas, on Feb. 16, 1924. She received her formal education and graduated from high school in Blytheville. She later graduated from the Steven Bryant Nursing School in Milwaukee and began her lifelong career of helping others as a nurse's assistant. She married and divorced twice before relocating to Milwaukee.
Arnell leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory, her mother, Romi Hall of Paducah, Kentucky; five sons, Artis T. Middleton, Alvin C. Middleton, Rodger Garner and Eric G. Middleton, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Berlye S. (Susan B. Houck) Middleton and his children, Courtney L-M. Middleton and Christopher S. Middleton of Eau Claire; one daughter, Joyce Garner of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mosella Middleton of Chicago, Ill.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her father, Mr. James Middleton; and her brother, Mr. Adres Middleton preceded Arnell in death.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Nov. 17, 2000, at the Chapel of Williamson Funeral Home in Milwaukee, Wis., with Elder Albert J. Carrington, Jr. officiating. Cremation services and inurnment were at Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Michael Shinkan
Michael Shinkan, 53, Eau Claire, died at his home Monday, December 4, 2000.
He was born in Rhinelander and served in the Navy for 23 years, until retirement. For the past two years, he had been in ill health and was under hospice care.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle (Derrin) Dehnke of Fall Creek; a son, Michael Jr. (Anjee) Shinkan of San Diego; a daughter, Ara Shinkan of Eau Claire; two grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Gale (Sandy) Shinkan of Milwaukee, Karen Hedstrom of Menomonie, Shirley Shinkan of Eau Claire, Darryl Shinkan of Cadott and Krissy Martinez of Eau Claire; and a special friend, Charlotte Carothers.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Chapel, with Father Edmund Klimek officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Northside Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. at the chapel on Wednesday.
Howard Bilderback
Howard L. Bilderback, 71, of Eau Claire died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at home with his family, after a long illness.
Howard was born January 3, 1930, to William and Vinnie (Perkins) Bilderback in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he attended Eau Claire Schools.
Howard joined the United States Army in 1947, and served in Korea. On March 11, 1950, he married Beverly Schreck in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, at the Lutheran Church of St. Matthew.
Howard was owner of A & B Auto in Eau Claire along with Verlyn Arneson. After selling the business, he went to work for Chilson Motors as a mechanic. Howard was a member of VFW Post #305.
Howard is survived by his wife, Beverly of Eau Claire; three sons, Gary, Michael and Ricky Bilderback, all of Eau Claire; two daughters, Connie (Dale) Gray of Stevens Point and Patti (Terry) Andersen of Eau Claire; two brothers, Harry (Beverly) of Mondovi and Allen (Gayle) of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Vinnie; one sister, Leah Bilderback; and three brothers, Loren, Rodney and Ralph, all of Eau Claire.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2001, at the Lutheran Church of St. Matthew. Pastor Steven Rutter will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military honors conducted by VFW Post #305.
Friends may call Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service.

William Jones
William St. Clair "Clair" Jones, 94, of 3829 Old Wells Road, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Mt. Washington Residence.
He was born on October 22, 1906, in Albion Township, Eleva, to Wesley and Edith (Hurlburt) Jones.
William married Elsie Schwartz in Eau Claire on June 19, 1937.
He was employed 35 years at Pope and Talbot Paper Company until retiring in 1971.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Dennis Blodgett of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, James (Ruth) Blodgett and Jayne Blodgett, both of Eau Claire, and MaryAnn (William) Holton of Oakdale, Minn.; three great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie in 1995; his daughter, Joan Blodgett; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Howard officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Family and friends may call an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
