Harold E. Heitke
July 12, 1930 - June 08, 2020
Harold Edward Heitke, age 89, of Portage, WI, died on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Harold was born on July 12, 1930 to William and Clara (Kingsley) Heitke. Harold joined the Navy and served during the Korean War. Returning home, he married Donna Simonson on Feb. 25, 1956.
Harold was employed for over 30 years at AMPI in Portage.
Harold is survived by his Wife of 64 years Donna, three children Terry (Keith) Russell of Cottage Grove, WI; Craig (Lisa Buchholtz) Heitke of Deforest; and Connie Heitke-Lentz of Portage. Four grandchildren Kyle and Ryan Russell, Chad and Keana Lentz also six great grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother and a grandson Justin Lentz.
A private family Burial will take place at a later date.
Robert C. Hardie
December 15, 1937 - July 04, 2020
Robert C. Hardie, 82, a longtime dairy farmer in rural Taylor, died Saturday, July 4 at his town of Franklin home.
Bob was born Dec. 15, 1937 in La Crosse, to Keith and Cecile Hardie. He grew up in the town of Franklin, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Melrose High School, where he was the captain of the school’s inaugural football team. He also played basketball and baseball. He spent summers working on his Uncle Vilas Steine’s farm.
Bob graduated with a mining engineer degree from the Platteville Mining and Engineering School. He met his future wife Marcia Anklam of Highland, Wis. who attended the Platteville Teacher’s school. The couple married Aug. 29, 1959 in Muscoda, Wis.
The couple lived in Bethlehem, PA for three years where Bob worked as a mining engineer. They moved to Hales Corners, Wis., in 1963 when Bob worked for Nordberg Manufacturing in Milwaukee. In 1970 they moved to the homestead farm in the town of Franklin and began dairy farming with Bob’s uncle and aunt Leland and Sara Clair on the farm started by Bob’s grandparents Ray and Hilda Hardie.
Bob and Marcia expanded and improved the dairy herd with investments in purebred Holsteins. They also taught their two sons and many nephews and cousins the value of a hard day’s work.
Bob served as school board member for the Melrose-Mindoro School District for 39 years, many of those as president. He also was active in various farming organizations and never missed a deer hunting season in 70 years.
Bob is survived by his wife Marcia; sons Kevin (Kathryn) Hardie of Blair; Chris (Sherry) Hardie of Taylor; five grandchildren – Matthew (Jenni) Hardie of Oakdale, MN; Nicholas (fiancée Danielle Chu) Hardie of New York; Rachel (Josh) Ranney of Chippewa Falls; Jessica (Josh) Benrud of Onalaska; Ross (Lucy) Hardie of Chetek, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters – Diane Kraemer of Ettrick; Margaret (Russ) Young of Merrillan; brother-in-law Robert Kraemer of Ettrick, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Eric and his sister and brother-in-law Annette and Stanley Jungck.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July, 9 at the Brambleberry Winery Grand Pavilion, N3684 Claire Road, Taylor, WI, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Adam Arends officiating. Seating will be appropriately spaced for Covid-19 physical distancing. Those who are comfortable wearing face masks should do so.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the North Beaver Creek Lutheran Church (white building) cemetery following the services. Lunch will be served at Brambleberry after burial.
The Kratz Funeral Home of Portage is assisting with the services. Memorials may be directed to North Beaver Creek Lutheran Church.
Bob will be forever remembered for his legendary strength, his analytical thought process, his deep, booming voice and the world’s kindest heart, which melted whenever he spent time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clarice R.(Meekma) Krueger
February 03, 1927 - August 10, 2016
Clarice Rachel (Meekma) Krueger died on Wednesday August 10, 2016 at the Columbia County Health Care Facility in Wyocena, WI
She was born on Feb. 3, 1927 in Watertown, WI, to James and Grace (Buursma) Meekma.
Clarice is survived by a brother James (Geraldine) Meekma of Lansing, IL; four sisters Catherine Atkinson of Oregon, WI; Eiveline Phillips of Monroe, WI; Jane (Lawrence) Michaelis of Black Earth, WI; Amy (Dale) Bornick of Whitewater, WI and many nieces, nephews and friends. Also a very special friend Liz Belmore and her family.
Clarice is preceded in death by her parents; a son Dennis Wayne Krueger and a brother Peter Meekma.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in the Kratz Funeral Home at 302 East Conant Street in Portage, WI. Rev. David Hankins will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. till time of service at 3:00 p.m.
Burial will be follow services at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Portage.
A special thank you to the wonderful care takers at the Columbia County Health Care Center for the loving care of Clarice over the last four years.
DeAnn Frances Roseth Greenwold
December 24, 1963 - June 03, 2020
DeAnn Frances Roseth Greenwold, age 56, passed away on June 3 at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Osseo surrounded by her family and exceptional co-workers. She battled lung cancer so bravely for the past two years. It was said many times that she was “tough as nails” because of the way she never complained and endured so much to protect her loved ones from pain.
DeAnn was born December 24, 1963, to David and Marie Roseth. She attended Blair High School and soon after graduating became a licensed practical nurse at the technical college in Winona, MN. Several years later she received her registered nursing degree from the Western Wisconsin Technical College in LaCrosse. Recently, she completed her bachelor degree in nursing through Chamberlain University. DeAnn was employed at Mayo Clinic Health System-Osseo for the past 15 years. Her current role was that of house supervisor.
DeAnn was blessed with three wonderful children, Deedra, Cole, and Desirae. Besides being a dedicated mother, she loved being a nurse and left a lasting impact on many patients and co-workers. She never complained about being a medical consultant to anyone who asked it of her.
In addition to her nursing vocation, DeAnn enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, crocheting, giving thoughtful, beautifully wrapped gifts, vacationing, taking local road trips, attending auctions, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying a sweet glass of wine.
DeAnn’s life was enriched when she was reacquainted with Norval Greenwold seven years ago. He added adventure and tender loving care to her life. They were married on October 6, 2018.
DeAnn will be so deeply missed by her husband, Norval Greenwold, children Deedra Nichols, Cole Nichols (Ciara), and Desirae Nichols, sister, Rita (Peter) Berge, brother David Roseth (Jackie), niece, Maria (Jared) Schadrie, nephew, Chase Roseth, step-children David (Karri) Greenwold, Aaron Grenwold (Miranda), Taylor Greenwold, Blair Greenwold, and step- grandchildren Braden, Grayson, and Parker.
A drive-by visitation will be held from 11-1 with an outdoor service to follow that will respect Covid guidelines (bring own lawn chair) on Sunday, June 7, at North Beaver Creek Church located at W11275 County Road C, Ettrick, WI 54627.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the staff at Mayo Clinic Health System-Osseo for making it possible to fulfill Deann’s wish of going to her extended home to spend her last days. An extra special thank you to Rita and Frank Jury for their friendship and generosity, as well as, Reverend Tracy Kennedy and Pastor Adam Arends for their guidance, wisdom, and support during DeAnn’s illness and passing.
David E. Roseth
October 26, 1937 - April 08, 2020
David Earl Roseth, age 82, passed away on April 8, 2020 at his daughter’s home in Strum, WI. He battled metastatic thyroid cancer since the fall of 2017.
David was born October 26, 1937 to Esther and Lloyd Roseth. He attended Taylor High School, graduating in 1955. David was united in marriage to Marie Walski on April 29, 1963 at Sacred Heart Church in Pine Creek, WI.
David was an exceptionally hard worker all his life. He farmed for a number of years and then began his carpentry career at Ettrick Lumber and later worked for Balduzzi Lumber in Brice Prairie. Following that he did various jobs that included factory work and delivery services. In retirement he stayed active cutting and selling wood until his health declined.He loved to spend time hunting, fishing, dancing, grilling, socializing, and telling Ole and Lena jokes.
He will be sadly missed by his 3 children, DeAnn (Norval) Greenwold, Rita (Peter) Berge, and David L. Roseth, as well as his five grandchildren Deedra, Maria (Jared), Desi, Cole, and Chase. He is survived by brother-in-laws Paul, Bob (Mary), and Don (Mary) Walski, and a special friend, Darlene Lunde. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, father-in-law, Peter, brother LaVerne, and sister-in-law, Denise.
A drive-by viewing / visitation will be held from 1-2 on Friday, April 17 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Blair, WI. A private graveside ceremony for immediate family will follow.
William Grieger
William H. (Bill) Grieger, age 88, a lifelong resident of the Wisconsin Dells area, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at St. Clare Hospital of Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells, with Father Felix Oehrlein celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.
Bill was born March 30, 1915, in Kilbourn (now Wisconsin Dells), Wisconsin, and he attended the country school in Big Spring, Wisconsin. On January 14, 1939 he married Elsie Zeitz in Wisconsin Dells. They were married for 65 years. In his early marriage he was a farmer. Always having a love working with wood he changed careers and later went on to become a carpenter/roofer/home remodeler, starting with the VanWie Lumber Company. For the succeeding 30+ years he was self employed in the same profession as Bill’s Home Remodeling. Before he retired in 1988, Bill also worked in making woodcrafts and as a knife and saw sharpener. He was a very community-minded person and was very willing to help out others when needed. He was a faithful member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bill is survived by his wife, Elsie; a son, Richard A. (Barbara A. Truelsen) Grieger of Elgin, Illinois; a stepbrother, James (Virginia ) Grieger of Wisconsin Dells and a niece, Beverly Grieger of Wisconsin Dells. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna (nee Gottschalk) and stepfather, John T. Grieger and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin, on Monday, February 2, 2004 from 4 to 7 P.M. and on Tuesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.
