Kenneth Dittrich

Kenneth F. Dittrich, age 76 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Wednesday, September 18, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Dells with Mother Diane Markevitch officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. Burial will be at Lake Delton Village Cemetery beside his beloved wife Shir Lee.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton on Sunday, September 22, 2002 from 4 to 7 P.M. and on Monday at Holy Cross Episcopal Church from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Kenneth was born June 20, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Elizabeth Dittrich. After his mothers death when he was 5 he was raised by his Anna (Irving) Kramer. Ken served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant during World War 2. He married his high school sweetheart, Shir Lee Iverson on August 23, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Ken and Shir Lee made Lake Delton their home in 1948. He was employed by Scott Construction from its inception and served as vice president until his retirement in 1991. He was a charter member of the Lake Delton Lions Club and served as its president. Lion’s International recently presented Ken with the Melvin Jones Award for his humanitarianism. He was also a member of the Lake Delton Volunteer Fire Department. Ken loved to whistle, dance and laugh.

Ken will be deeply missed by his family and so very many friends. Ken is survived by his children, Craig (Elaine) Dittrich of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Jennifer (Nick) Brazeau of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and Nancy (Randy) Kuhnau of Wisconsin Dells, six grandchildren, a sister, Lorraine Kramer of Baraboo and a very special friend, Jean Dorenbos. He was preceded in death by his mother, his Anna, wife Shir Lee and daughter, Donna Gay.

Charles Pagels

Charles Pagels, age 74 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Divine Savior Nursing Home in Portage, Wisconsin.

Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton with Chaplain Monica Holden officiating. Charles was cremated at the Castle Rock Cremation Service in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin.

Charles was born September 23, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Charles and Lucretia Pagels. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1948. In 1971 he married Aileen LaFrancis in Lake County, Illinois. For many years Charles was a self employed welder. He also loved to hunt, fish and ride motorcycles.

Charles is survived by his wife, Aileen; sons, Craig (Toni) Pagels of Charleston, South Carolina and Jeffrey Pagels of Boulder, Colorado; a daughter, Lisa Blazina of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; stepsons, Erick (Barbara) Paschen of Potter, Wisconsin, Randy Paschen of Wisconsin Dells, Ray (Connie) Paschen of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Tom (Lee) Paschen of Mission Viejo, California, Brett Paschen of Florida and Tim Paschen of Manila, Philippines; step daughter, Diane (Mike) Contine of Franklin Park, Illinois; a brother, George (Arlene) Pagels of Marengo, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 2 P.M.

Francis Fischer

Francis Fischer, age 86 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Monday, September 9, 2002 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 12:00 Noon at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Arnold Reuter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Cremation will follow the traditional services and Francis will be interred next to his beloved wife at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Francis was born December 17, 1915 in Cascade, Wisconsin the son of John and Mabel (Schultz) Fischer. On December 26, 1936 he married Geraldine Markusch in Kohler, Wisconsin. They lived a few years in Sheboygan, Wisconsin then moved to Lake Delton with their two young children and settled there. He spent his early, married years working together with his wife in several business ventures. In the early years was the Bowl In Bar and Huck’s Bar and after Fischer’s Supper Club was running he also opened the Wharf Bar and Dance Hall in Wisconsin Dells that featured big name entertainers and the Dells Oasis. His mainstay was Fischer’s Supper Club where for the past 50 years of his lifetime was spent working and operating that along with his wife, son and family members. Francis was also a member of the Lake Delton Village Board for 24 years beginning in 1957 and served as president from 1967 to 1981; served on the Sauk County Board from 1959 through 1971 and was chairman of the Personnel Commission and Health Committee; and was a member of the Baraboo National Bank Board of Directors for 23 years beginning in 1971.

Francis will dearly be missed by his son, Evan and his wife, Deanna (Darrow) Fischer and their four children, Randy (Debbie), Dawn (Bob), Deane and Schely (Jim); a daughter, Diane (Fischer) DeGrush and her husband, James and their three children, Mark, Cheryl and Chadd; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; parents; a brother, George and a sister, Alena Markgraf.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Blanche Decorah

Blanche Decorah, age 77, of Reedsburg, Wisconsin died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Felix Oehrlein celebrating. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.

Blanche was born January 6, 1927 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin the daughter of Rusius and Anne (Honker) Decorah and she grew up in Wisconsin Dells.

Blanche is survived by her sisters, Angeline Decorah of Chicago, Illinois, Della Pyawasay of Reedsburg, Hazel Shegonee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Delia Maisells of Berlin, Wisconsin and Virginia Dixon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nephew, Frank Decorah of Kansas; numerous other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lorraine Hopinkah and Harriet Decorah and a brother, LaVernon Decorah.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at 11:30 A.M.

Donald Counsell

Donald Counsell, age 67, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin was called home Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Steven Keller officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services.

Donald was born December 13, 1935 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin the son of Kenneth and Pricillia (Owens) Counsell. He attended colleges in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a degree in Elementary Education. Donald was wed to Mary Ann Sissel in Albuquerque, New Mexico on December 7, 1978. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Dells Lions club.

Don is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his sons; Scott (Sherry) Counsell of Wisconsin Dells, Douglas Wentz of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and Matthew Counsell of Texas, his daughters; Paula Gossett of Alabama, and Shayna Counsell of Madison, Wisconsin, his brother Duaine (Donna) Counsell of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and his sister Beverly (Glenn) Bauman also of Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Jeremy Wentz, Rachel Galeos, Jesse Gossett, Katie Wentz, Joey Wentz, McKenzie “Twinkle Toes” Counsell, Riely Counsell, and by one great-grandchild; Sasha Galeos. Donald was preceded in death by Parents, and by his son, David Wentz.

Public visitation will be held at Picha Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 7 P.M.

Arnold "Shorty" Hoehn

Arnold “Shorty” Hoehn, age 83, a lifelong resident of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center with his loving family by his side.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Lyndon Station with Reverend Ronald Breight officiating. Burial will be at the Lyndon Station Village Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Maurice C. Havey Post 5970 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin.

Shorty was born September 21, 1919 in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin the son of Reinhold and Esther (Foss) Hoehn. He was baptized by Reverend Martin Huebner at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and confirmed by Reverend Smukel in 1936. In 1945 he married Theresa Alwin at Grace Lutheran Church in Racine, Wisconsin. He was in business with his father for 30 years in the R. Hoehn and Son Lumber Company and carried on the family business with his son Walter, until he retired due to Parkinson’s Disease.

Shorty served his country in the U.S. Army during World War 2 in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945 in the 41st Infantry Division, 2nd Battallion. He was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post 5970 in Lyndon Station and a member of the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. He served his community as the mayor and village trustee; was a retired member of the Lyndon Station Volunteer Fire Department; and was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and building committee.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Tess; son, Walter (Judy) of Lyndon Station; grandchildren, Tracy (Jeff) Hoffman and Bryon (Jessie) Hoehn; sisters-in-law, Jean Hoehn and Lillian Hoehn; a brother-in-law, Leo (Margaret) Alwin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur and Edward and a sister, Gertrude Meyer.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home of Lyndon Station on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Catherine "Kay" Palmer

Catherine “Kay” Palmer, age 89, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, formerly of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 17, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lyndon Station with Father Ronald Zinkle, S.J. officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.

Kay was born November 22, 1913 in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, the daughter of Anthony and Rose (Hudzinski) Szymanowski. Kay was married to Jack Magera and he preceded her in death. They had owned and operated restaurants in the Twin Lakes, Wisconsin and Richmond, Illinois area. She later married Ray Palmer. Together they operated a group home for disabled veteran’s called the Black Forest Inn near Lyndon Station from 1968 to 1980. He preceded her in death in 1986. She had been a member of the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 Auxiliary of Wisconsin Dells. Kay will long be remembered as an independent and strong willed person.

Kay is survived by a daughter, Mary Jean (Wayne) Ulrich of Lake Delton, Wisconsin; a brother, Paul (Gloria) Szymanowski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a sister, Agnes Tatera of Wisconsin Dells; grandchildren, Peggy, Michelle, Christine and Douglas; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Gerald; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.
