James DeGrush
James “Jim” DeGrush, age 67, of Lake Delton, Wisconsin, died peacefully in the comfort of his own home with his loving family by his side on Friday, July 4, 2008.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, with Pastor Mike Amberg officiating. Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 P.M. until the time of service at 6 P.M. His cremains will be interred at Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Jim was born June 20, 1941 in Bolton Landing, New York, the son of John and Edna (French) DeGrush. He served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin from November of 1958 until October 1962, where he also met and married the love of his life, Diane Fischer, on July 25, 1962. They moved to Lake Delton, in 1963 where they raised their family. Jim worked at the Dells Oasis from 1963 until 1966 and then went to work bartending at Fischer’s Supper Club for the family; where he continued to work part-time while pursuing his postal career between the Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton post offices. He put in a total of 35 years in the post office with 23 years of those years as Postmaster of Lake Delton until he retired on April 30, 2000. After a short retirement he went to work doing outside maintenance for the Polynesian Hotel for two summers; and in May of 2006 Jim and his wife and daughter started the Dam Bar and Grill in Lake Delton. Jim was also active with the Lake Delton Lions Club from 1968 to 1998.
Jim will be dearly missed by his loving wife and best friend, Diane; sons, Mark DeGrush of Alexandria, Virginia and Chadd (Elizabeth) DeGrush stationed at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Cheryl DeGrush of Lake Delton and companion of 10 years, Tim Rice; grandson, Anthony Johnson of Loves Park, Illinois; sister, Dorothy Bradley of North Creek, New York along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews from the Adirondack region of Upstate New York; a brother and sister-in-law, Evan and Deanna Fischer of Lake Delton and many dear and close friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, John DeGrush in 1962 and his mother, Edna Barrett in 2000. And not to forget to mention his faithful companion of 16 years, Herbie, the wonder cat.

Irene Timlin
Irene Elizabeth Timlin, born 7 April 1918, and a lifelong resident of Wisconsin Dells, passed away 6 July 2008.
There are no immediate family survivors – Irene was the “last leaf on the family tree”. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret (Howley) Timlin and Joseph Timlin and four sisters; Lorraine Rickenberg, Kathryn Timlin, Mary Jensen and Mildred Rubin and a niece, Catherine Jean Timlin.
Irene was proud to be a cancer survivor since 1959, ever grateful to Dr. John Houghton. In the months before her death, Irene expressed gratitude that whenever the need arose, people were available to help her. Special thanks to Dr. David Watts and U.W. Hospital, and all others who prayed for Irene or assisted her over the years.
A Funeral Mass will be concelebrated by Monsignor Felix Oehrlein and longtime friends of Irene, Fr. Bernard J. Pickarts and Fr. Raymond J. Dischler in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Wisconsin Dells, Thursday, 10 July 2008, at 11 A.M. with interment in Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia Church for two hours before the Funeral Mass, from 9 to 11 A.M. Memorials in Irene’s name can be given to the American Cancer Society or to St. Cecilia Parish - Church Building Fund.
Ilene Follendorf
Ilene Follendorf, age 81, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, and Tucson, Arizona, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center of Fitchburg, Wisconsin.
Memorial funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells, with Reverend Steven Keller officiating. Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.
Ilene was born July 15, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Ingvald and Mathilda “Tillie” (Ulness) Hansen. She married Ross Follendorf on September 12, 1947 in Minneapolis. They moved to Wisconsin Dells, in 1959 where they owned and operated Hansen’s Department Store until his retirement in 1976. Ross and Ilene spent their retirement years wintering in Tucson and the rest of the year back in Wisconsin Dells, with their family and friends. Beside their love of traveling, collecting antiques and many other shared interests, Ilene was an avid golfer, bowler and liked playing cards especially bridge. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. Dear to her heart was providing a warm and traditional home for her family and loved ones and she was the armchair coach on game day when the Packers played.
Ilene is survived by her daughters, Linda Follendorf of Redlands, California, Susan (Martin) Steffes of Wisconsin Dells and Carol (Peter) Broadley of New Glarus, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Amy, Sarah and Scott Steffes, Jennifer and Allison Broadley; many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Robert Follendorf of Oceanside, California and close family friends, Bill and Jean Frenz of Richfield, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Ross; brothers, Ubert and Morris Hansen and sisters, Violet Ford and Mildred Sauko.

Gerald "Jerry" Walker
Gerald “Jerry” Walker, age 73, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in the comfort of his own home with his family by his side.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Cassandra May officiating. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells, with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 26 of Baraboo will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.
Jerry was born July 30, 1934 in Fox Lake, Wisconsin, the son of Orville and Florence (Evans) Walker. In June of 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in March of 1975. He retired as a tech sergeant and was an aircraft electrical mechanic. Retirement didn’t last long and he worked in Arizona on water drilling equipment. He also enjoyed woodworking and fixing things.
Jerry is survived by his son, Koichiro “Ko” (Tana) Walker of Paradise Valley, Arizona; grandsons, Yoshi and Jiro; a dear friend, Dorothy Fitzgerald of Baraboo; sisters, Beverly Prothero of Merrimac, Wisconsin, Betty (Robert) Giebel of Wisconsin Dells, Shirley (Phillip) Wedekind and Charlene (William) Turner both of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Mary Albedyll of Poynette, Wisconsin and Patricia Kemp of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; and brothers, Bruce (Pam) Walker of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, Gale (Bonnie) Walker of Reedsburg and Chester (Rebecca) Walker of Lakeview, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fusako Tani in 1990; daughter, Hitomi; sister, Susan Erickson; and brothers, Ronald and Robert.

Donald Skarda
Donald A. Skarda, age 82, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, died peacefully Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, Wisconsin after a long battle with lung cancer.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Monsignor Felix Oehrlein celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells, with full military honors provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187, Wisconsin Dells. Visitation will be held at the Catholic school across the street from the church on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 4 to 7 P.M. and on Saturday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.

Donald was born August 25, 1925 on a farm in the Township of Wellington in Monroe County, Wisconsin, the son of Paul J. and Caroline (Rynes) Skarda. He was proud of his Czech heritage. He graduated from high school in Ontario, Wisconsin in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy in July when he was still 17 and attended Notre Dame, Murray State and the University of Georgia while in the military. He received combat training at the Long Beach Naval Station in Long Island, New York. This training was designed to equip sailors with the skills needed to invade foreign countries. He was stationed at Subic Bay Naval Base in Luzon, Philippines with a Navy invasion force preparing to invade the main island of Japan. He and his comrades were relieved when the news came that WW II had ended. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he enrolled at the Wisconsin Teachers College in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and received a B.S. degree in education in 1950. He was able to continue his education because of the G.I. Bill which was conceived and vigorously lobbied by the American Legion. Don received his M.S. degree in education from U.W. Madison in 1954. He taught school at Cochrane, Wisconsin for 3 years and for 34 years as a teacher and guidance counselor at Wisconsin Dells High School. He considered it a privilege to work with so many fine young people and dedicated colleagues for 37 years. He was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, was president of the Holy Name Society and an usher for several years. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Wisconsin Dells Junior Chamber of Commerce, a Boy Scout leader and assisted with Babe Ruth baseball. Don was proud of his affiliation with the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 since 1954, serving as adjutant for 2 years, vice commander for 1 year and finance officer for 20 years. He was business manager of the Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial, sponsored by the Legion Post, for 17 years and general manager for 3 years. He was a member of the honor guard since 1954 and was a pall bearer for a number of his deceased comrades. During his retirement he enjoyed playing cards with the “boys” at the Legion club. Don had married Marian Jacobson on June 5, 1948 at St. James Catholic Church in LaCrosse and they were blessed with 3 children; Donald Paul, Nancy Elizabeth and Mark Gregory. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian, of 51 years; a son, Mark; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Jane. Don is survived by a brother, James; a sister, Kay (Art) Brieske; a son, Donald P.; a daughter, Nancy (James) Schoppenhorst; grandchildren, Christi (Todd) Cleveland, Stacy (Will) Bauer, Kori (Chad) Severson, Jessica Schoppenhorst; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cody, and Carlie Cleveland and Avery Severson; and Marge, a very special friend.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Orkfritz and her nurse, Tara (Dells Clinic); Dr. Khuu and the entire oncology staff at Dean Specialty Clinic (Baraboo); and the staff at St. Clare Hospital in the emergency department, ICU, and staff on 2nd and 3rd floors.
Don will be sadly missed by his family. “Dad and Grandpa, we love you.”
Mack Waters
Mack Waters, age 84, of rural Lake Delton, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton with Reverend David Farina officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon until the time of service at 2 P.M.
Mack was born November 14, 1923 in Waterloo, Alabama, the son of Robert and Mattie (Emerson) Waters. He attended schools in Mississippi and Tennessee and graduated with a B.S. degree from Memphis State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in October of 1942 and was honorably discharged in January of 1946. In September of 1950 he married Patricia Thompson in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was a salesman for Central Steel and Wire of Chicago for 34 years retiring in 1986. Mack was a member of the Reedsburg United Methodist Church where he especially enjoyed the bible study groups and he was a member of the Colorado Carvers Club and also taught wood carving at M.A.T.C.
Mack is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Marti (Kevin) Fults of Wisconsin Dells, Mary (Jeff) Griffin of Reedsburg and Peggy (Gary) Stovich of West Allis, Wisconsin and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Macon Waters.

Daniel Hundt
Daniel Hundt, age 63, of Lake Delton, Wisconsin, formerly of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died peacefully Friday, July 18, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the Wisconsin Memorial Park Family Center in Brookfield, Wisconsin with Pastor Bryan O'Connor officiating. Visitation will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park Family Center on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service at 6 P.M.
Daniel was born May 27, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Ralph and Jeanette (Fricke) Hundt. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September of 1963, was stationed overseas in Okinawa and was honorably discharged in September of 1967. Of his many duties, Dan painted the teeth on the Flying Tiger aircraft. In February of 1965, he married Janyce Cowen in Milwaukee. Dan was a police officer in Milwaukee for 31 years, retiring as sergeant in 1998. For the past 10 years they have lived near Lake Delton, where Dan enjoyed hunting and fishing and stayed busy with woodworking making beautiful crafts with the scroll saw and lathe and hand carvings, also making most of the home furniture.
Dan is survived by his wife, Janyce; sons, Douglas of McGregor, Iowa, Mark (Denise) of Brown Deer, Wisconsin and Andrew of Waukesha, Wisconsin; a brother, Thomas (Juanita) of Hustisford, Wisconsin; and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
