Donald Armstrong
BRYAN, OHIO - Donald L. Armstrong, age 79, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2000 in the Harborside Healthcare Center-Bryan after an extended illness.
He was a Sales Manager for Nationwide Insurance of Northwest Ohio, also was a Senior Sales Representative of Countrymark, a member of the First Church of Christ-Bryan, Church elder for 32 years, past treasurer of the Williams County Historical Society and was an army veteran of World War II.
Born in Williamsport, Indiana, on February 1, 1921 the son of Samuel and Edna (Vanest) Armstrong. On June 25, 1943, he married Doris McClain and she preceded him in death on May 13, 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Michael and wife Louise Armstrong of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Doug (Jeanne) Armstrong of Port Clinton, Ohio; two grandsons, Brian Armstrong of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chad Armstrong of Madison, Wisconsin; a brother, Arthur Armstrong of Columbia, Indiana; two sisters, Eileen Boll of Columbus, Indiana and Jean Breen of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Services for Donald L. Armstrong will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rice Funeral Home-Bryan with the Revs. Larry Snavely and Dean Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Shiffler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m..
Contributions in loving memory of Donald I. Armstrong may be made to the First Church of Christ, Community Hospital Hospice or to an agency of the donor's choice.
Arnold Hassemer
BLOOMER - Arnold Hassemer, 68, of Bloomer, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at his home in Bloomer.
He was born January 7, 1932 in the Town of Woodmohr, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Mary (Schwab) Hassemer. He married Alvera "Viola" Scritsmier May 17, 1952 in Chippewa Falls. They farmed in the Town of Woodmohr, for numerous years, then moved to Bloomer, where he was the owner of Arnie's Shoe Land, and also worked for A J Manufacturing. In his retirement he drove truck for Glass Products and River States Truck and Trailer. He enjoyed ice fishing and hunting.
He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and former member of the Parish Council, Bloomer Chamber of Commerce and served on the Chamber board; he was secretary and treasurer of the Cooks Valley Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Veda Hassemer of Bloomer; daughter, Kate (Dale) Ludwigson of Bloomer; son, Michael (Bonnie) Hassemer; one grandson, Kristopher Hassemer, all of Cadott; and 29 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Delvin Hassemer; and his wife Bernice.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Bloomer, with Father Norman Boneck officiating. Burial will be at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Bloomer.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Schriver Funeral Chapel, Bloomer, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Christian Wake Service.
Benjamin Wellstein
KNAPP -- Benjamin Wellstein, age 83, of Knapp, Wis., died Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Benjamin was born February 27, 1917 in the Town of Lucas, Dunn Co., Wis. to Valentine and Mary (Laubenstein) Wellstein. He was raised in the Town of Lucas and attended Knapp School. He married Elvira Lausted on November 7, 1942 at the Tainter EUB Church.
Together Elvira and Ben farmed in the Town of Lucas, until retiring in 1980. They moved to the Village of Knapp, and resided there until December of 1998. Benjamin enjoyed his family and his life on the farm. Benjamin was enriched by the people who surrounded him. He believed in the value of friendship. He was challenged by the changing world around him and kept focused to the future.
After retirement Elvira and Benjamin enjoyed traveling. They especially enjoyed the travels back to Germany and Europe to the birthplace of his father. Benjamin was blessed with the love of his grandchildren and the special time with his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one son, Wayne (Marge) Wellstein of Menomonie; one daughter, Shirley (Michael) Kuhn of Knapp; grandchildren, Robin (Dan) Scharlau, Michelle (Douglas) Faber, Chad (Rhonda) Kuhn, Bill Casper and Kathy Casper; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Trenton, Sarah, Austin and Christopher; sisters, Mable Jaeger and Violet Casper; other relatives and friends.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvira; brothers, William, Paul and Daniel; sisters, Minnie Schaefer and Ruth Casper.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000 at United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Marilynn Rushton officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in the town of Stanton, Dunn Co.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Rachel Davis
Rachel H. Davis, 87, of Merrillan, died Tuesday at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls.
She was born on October 25, 1913, in Garden Valley, Jackson County, to parents Albert and Emma (Janke) Jacobson. She graduated from Eau Claire Teachers College and worked as an elementary school teacher in several rural schools in the county. She married Sidney C. Davis on June 28, 1941, in Alma Center. She was a member of the Women of Grace Lutheran Church and the Wrightsville Homemakers group. Her hobbies included flower gardening and collecting ceramic roosters.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Davis, on July 31, 1977; and by five brothers, Rudolph, Arnold, Milton, Harold and Vernon.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney of Black River Falls; three sons, Roger (Betty) Davis of Eau Claire, John (Corrine) Davis of Beloit and Carl (Donna) Davis of Bloomington, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Alison, Michelle and Renee; and six great-grandchildren, Micheala, Morgan, Margo, Maclain, Zoe and Reid; besides other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2001, at Grace Lutheran Church, Alma Center, with Rev. Ricky Bertels officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

Lloyd Gomsrud
Lloyd P. Gomsrud, 90, 2120 Heights Drive, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at The Clairemont.
He was born on November 29, 1910, in the town of Garfield, Jackson County, Wisconsin, to Edd and Lena (Christenson) Gomsrud.
Lloyd farmed in the Northfield area until moving to Eau Claire in 1948. He worked for the railroad for a time and retired from Uniroyal in 1973.
He is survived by his family, Larry (Darliene) Gomsrud of Osseo, Jerry Gomsrud of Eau Claire and Donna (Roderick) DeVoe of Sarona; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Edna Olson of Northfield; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vema; and two sisters, Mildred Held and LaVerne Fleming.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2001, at Forest Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Howard Fehr officiating.
Friends and relatives may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home.

Leonard Joles
Leonard Joles, 85, of the town of Hallie, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001.
He was born June 5, 1915, in Greenwood, to Isaac and Mary Joles. After moving to Hallie, with his parents, he met and married Lorraine Schunk on Feb. 13, 1937, in Chippewa Falls. Leonard and Lorraine lived in Hallie, all of their life together. He dearly loved his wife of almost 64 years.
Most of Leonard's life was spent doing what he enjoyed most, landscaping and tree trimming. He also worked at Uniroyal in Eau Claire, and at Tschopp-Durch Camastral Company in Chippewa Falls.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Chippewa Falls; son, Gary (Linda) of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Lorraine (Donald) Cripe of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Amy (Don) Martineau, Don, Garry and Dan Cripe; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson, Alex. He is also survived by one brother, Isaac "Ike" (Florence) Joles of Luck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Faye Heideman and Louise Hoehn; and two great-grandchildren, David and Amy Jo Cripe.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Tim Vanden Langenberg of Hallie United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until the time of services Friday at the funeral chapel.
Helen Linderman
Helen "Bobbie" Linderman, 92, of Eau Claire, died February 3, 2001, at Syverson Lutheran Home.
She was born May 16, 1908, the youngest of eight children, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to John and Mary Parent. Helen attended grade school in Chippewa Falls, and was a graduate of Wisconsin State Teachers College in Eau Claire. She taught first grade in area schools and married Glenn Otis Linderman. She lived in Chippewa Falls, until after World War II, when they moved to Eau Claire.
Glenn preceded her in death in 1979.
Helen is survived by their two sons, James of Fitzwilliam, N.H., and John of Berkeley Heights, N.J.
She was an active member of St. Patrick's Parish and a volunteer at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2001, at St. Patrick's Church.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Burial will be private on Saturday at Calvary Cemetery.
The family requests memorials in Helen's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
