Jacob `Steve' Olson
READSTOWN, Wis. - Jacob ``Steve'' Olson, 65, of Readstown, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997 in Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home, Soldiers Grove. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Sime Funeral Home, Readstown. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and from noon until the time of services Tuesday, both at the funeral home.

Donald Joseph Ward
DORCHESTER, Iowa - Donald J. Ward, 61, of rural Dorchester, died of cancer Friday, Oct. 17, 1997 in his home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dorchester.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon, Iowa.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, where there will be a 5 p.m. scripture service and a 7 p.m. KC rosary.

Edith Erdman
SPARTA, Wis. - Edith Erdman, 82, of R.3, Sparta, died early Friday morning, October 17, 1997 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She is survived by her husband, Carl; three sons, James Erdman of Sparta, Richard (Judy) Erdman of Naperville, Ill., and Robert Erdman of Sparta; four grandchildren, Cynthia, Catherine, Timothy and Todd; great-granddaughters, Samantha and Danielle; and two brothers, Robert (Ruth) Ascott of Port Richie, Fla., and John (Agnes) Ascott of Kahoka, Mo.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Rev. Del Begalka officiating. Burial will be in Mound Prairie Cemetery in Coles Valley. Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Doris M. Hagen
MABEL, Minn. - Doris M. Hagen, age 68, of Mabel, Minnesota, died Friday, October 17, 1997 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
The former Doris Lien was born August 27, 1929 in Becker County, Minnesota. On October 16, 1950 she married Robert Hagen in Mabel. The couple has farmed near Mabel since.
Doris is survived by her husband; one daughter, Karen Traufler of La Crosse, Wisconsin; two grandchildren; two brothers, Alden of Mabel and Harland of Caledonia; and three sisters, Mavis Larson and Ione Myhre, both of Mabel, and LaVonne Walhovd of Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Mabel First Lutheran Church, Mabel, Minnesota, with the Reverend Lloyd Menke officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 1997 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Nancy Barkla
RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Nancy Barkla, former Regent of the University of Wisconsin System, died Friday, October 17, 1997, at Regions Hospital, in St. Paul, Minnesota, from the effects of Temporal Arteritis.
Barkla is survived by her mother, Mrs. John Murry of River Falls; and her mother-in-law, Edna Johnson of Springfield, Oregon.
She is also survived by her husband, Paul of River Falls, and their two dogs, Wolfie and Sparky. The Barkla Children; daughter Ann and husband Steve Fedders, and three grandchildren, Alison, Alanna and Rory Gauthier, who live in Emerald, Wis. Daughter, Sidney Scott, and her husband, Tom Walsh, and their children, T.J., Lindsay, Patrick, Alex, and Michael, who live in Hudson. Son, Paul M. Barkla and his wife, Heather, and daughter Jaelyn, live in Osceola, Wis.
Her father, John Murry, her brother-in-law, James Schauer of South Milwaukee, Wis., and father-in-law, Joris O. Johnson of Springfield, Oregon, predeceased Barkla.
Services for Barkla will be held at St. Bridget's Church, River Falls, Wis., on Sunday, October 19, 1997. Visitation is at 5:30 p.m., with Mass at 7 p.m. Reverend Jerry Harris and Reverend Dan Dahlberg will be the Co-Celebrants.
Memorials to the American Civil Liberties Union, the Kinnikinnick Land Trust, The Emogene Nelson Scholarship, and the University of Wisconsin Law School are suggested in lieu of flowers.

Katherine V. McBain
SPARTA, Wis. - Katherine V. McBain, 63, of Sparta, died Friday, October 17, 1997 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Sparta.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta.
Burial will be in the Shamrock Union Church Cemetery, Shamrock.
Friends may call at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

Edna Marie Rosendahl
SPRING GROVE, Minn. - Edna Marie Rosendahl, age 88, of Spring Grove, Minn., passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring Grove, Minn.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Roble Funeral Home, Spring Grove, Minn.; and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Ralph George Blum
Ralph George Blum, age 75, of La Crosse, died October 18, 1997 at his home. He was born on April 9, 1922 to Oscar and Anne Blum.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Beverly (Bell) Blum whom he married in La Crosse on February 23, 1946; by his two sons, Larry (Debra) and Rick Blum, both of La Crosse; three grandchildren, Justin, Lisa, and Ryan; two sisters, Dorothy Wuensch of La Crosse, and Helen (John) Weiker of Coon Valley; one brother, William (Dorothy) Blum of Holmen.
A memorial service will be held at the First Church of Christ, 724 Cass St., on Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at 2 p.m. Reverend Charles Robinson will officiate. Private burial will take place at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.
Ralph was a World War II veteran.

Philip T. Kelly
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Philip T. Kelly, 67, of 1035 Prince Phillip Drive, Dubuque, died Thursday evening, Oct. 16, 1997 at home of cancer.
He was born August 8, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Philip and Mildred (Danaher) Kelly, Sr.
He attended George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and attended Brown Institute for Radio Training. He married Mary Urban on November 27, 1954 in St. James Catholic Church, La Crosse. He served in the U.S. Army and Navy during the Korean Conflict. He started with WKTY in La Crosse, Wis., and moved to Dubuque in 1958 to manage WDBQ radio station. He later became president and owner of Communications Properties, Inc. which ownes WDBQ-AM, KLYV-FM, WJOD-FM, and KXGE-FM. He was former president of the Iowa Broadcasting Association and President of the National Radio Code Board.
He was active in the community, serving on the Clarke College Board of Trustees, including a term as chairman. He worked with other community groups, including the Five Flags Commission. He was a member of the YMCA/YWCA, Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, Dubuque Golf and Country Club, of which he was a former board member, Dubuque Shooting Society, and a director of the former First National Bank. He was also a member of St. Raphael Cathedral and Knights of the Holy Sepulcher.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Beth (John) O'Connor of Dubuque, Molly Kelly of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Caroline (David) Bauer of Dubuque; two sons, Kevin T. (Carrie) Kelly of Dubuque, and Lt. Commander Michael D. Kelly of State College, Penn.; six grandchildren, Michael Kelly O'Connor, Catherine Mary O'Connor, John Kelly O'Connor, Patrick Kelly O'Connor, William Philip Kelly, and Daniel Patrick Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion Post #6. Friends may call from 12 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Raphael Cathedral. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Dubuque, Stonehill Care Center, Clarke College, or the Boy Scouts of America. Arrangements are by the Hoffman-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque.

Morris P. Kilen
WESTBY, Wis. - Morris P. Kilen, age 86, of Westby, died early Saturday, October 18, 1997 at his home.
He was born on June 25, 1911 to Thomas O. and Mary (Larson) Kilen. On December 20, 1932 he was united in marriage to Helen Schye. Morris was a farmer until his retirement when he and Helen moved into Westby.
He is survived by one daughter, Marlene (Richard) Huebner of New Berlin, Wis.; two sons, Richard (Elizabeth) Kilen of Westby, and Milo (Vicki) Kilen of Sauk Prairie, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Karen (Curt) Bemann, John (Angie) Huebner, Nancy Huebner, Christopher (Tina) Kilen, Benjamin (Courtney) Kilen, Nathan Kilen, and Rebecca (Robert) Glynn; eight great-grandchildren, Stacy, Brett, and Nicolette Bemann, Jamie and Alison Huebner, Savannah, Shakanah and Truman Kilen; and one sister, Bessie Kaye of Delavan, Wis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on January 22, 1997; his parents; three brothers, Olaf, Lawrence, and Thomas; and two sisters, Myrtle and Agnes.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 1 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy. 14 in Westby. Pastor Paul Jordahl will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Memorials may be directed to Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church or the Door of Hope Pregnancy Care Center in Viroqua.

Harry A. Meyer
NEW ALBIN, Iowa - Harry A. Meyer, 87, of New Albin, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997 at the Lutheran Home, Caledonia.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Eitzen.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
