Maynard O. Gilbertson
WESTBY, Wis. - Maynard O. Gilbertson, age 77, of rural Westby, died Friday, October 3, 1997 at his home.
He was born on February 9, 1920 in Viroqua, to Ole and Mary (Johnson) Gilbertson. On October 22, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gladys Virak. They lived in Chicago for many years where he was a member of the Lincoln Park Casting Club. He worked for O'Conner and Goldberg, and retired as an assistant manager in 1977. Maynard enjoyed classical music and kept up on world and local news. He also enjoyed talk radio and photography.
In addition to his wife, Gladys; he is survived by one daughter, Lois (Mike) Doll of Rosemount, Minn.; three granddaughters, Kristin Doll, Cassandra Doll, and Megan Doll; and his foster brother, Morris "Bob" Kingslien of Westby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 6, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy. 14 in Westby. Pastor Paul Jordahl will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday after 10 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home.
Thomas J. Clark
KENDALL, Wis. - Thomas J. Clark, age 83 years, of Kendall, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Picha Funeral Home, Elroy.
Burial will follow in the Millards Prairie Picha Funeral Home, Elroy.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 12 to 2 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
Gertrude A. Cox
SPARTA, Wis. - Gertrude A. Cox, 85, of Sparta, died Friday evening, Oct. 3, 1997, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Facility in La Crosse.
She is survived by eight daughters, Edith (Harold) Cox of Houston, Minn., Beatrice (Dick) Will of Joliet, Ill., Beulah (Richard) Raiten of Sparta, Inez (Ned) Davis of Tomah, Caroline (Carl) Nelson of Tomah, Vera Lee of Tucson, Ariz., June (Eugene) Severson of Sparta, Lila (Steve) Nofsinger of Hillsboro; three sons, Carl (Betty) Cox of Sparta, Forrest (Connie) Cox of Sparta, Eugene (Faye) Cox of Vinton, Louisiana; 40 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Veronica (Donald) Schanhofer, Marie (Raymond) Peters, and Dorothy Peck of Sparta; one brother, John Brueggeman of Sparta.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, with Rev. Mark Walljasper officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Wilton. Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 to 10:45 a.m.
Genevieve C. Mattison
Genevieve C. Mattison, 87, of La Crosse, died on Saturday, October 4, 1997 at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center. She was born on June 9, 1910 at St. Joseph's Ridge, Town of Greenfield, to George and Margaretha "Maggie" (Frisch) Hess. She married Ralph Mattison on July 14, 1945 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman in La Crosse. In 1916, Genevieve and her family moved to La Crosse. She had worked at American Studios and Universal Photo, both of La Crosse, and retired in 1965. Genevieve was a charter member of the La Crosse Camera Club and Past International President of Collectors of Religion on Stamps.
In addition to her husband, Ralph, she is survived by a daughter, Mary (Kent) Rotering of La Crosse; a granddaughter, Angeline M. ``Angie'' Rotering of La Crosse; a niece, Maxine (Dick) Weber of Eau Claire, Wis.; two nephews, Don Hanson of Duluth, Minn. and Greg (Kathy) Hanson of St. Louis Park, Minn. As well as many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, John Hanson and two sisters, Angeline Hess and Margaret Hanson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 1997 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. The Rev. Robert Cook will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse today from 6 to 8 p.m. where a Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9:30 until 10 a.m.
Judith M. Berg
Judith M. Berg, 86, of La Crosse, died on Saturday, October 4, 1997 at her home. She was born on March 24, 1911 in rural Blair, Wis. to Christian J. and Olava P. (Scow) Skogstad. She married Oscar Berg. He preceded her in death. Judith was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, La Crosse. She had worked at Barron's Department Store and Herberger's Department Store both of La Crosse for many years.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Judith's body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 1997 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Rachel Thorson Mithelman will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Harley George Myers
HOLMEN, Wis. - Harley George Myers, infant son of Don and Sarah (Johansen) Myers, of Holmen, Wis., died on Friday, October 3, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Services, tentatively arranged for Thursday will be announced by the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska.
Elmer F. Langrehr
MILWAUKEE/SPARTA, Wis. - Elmer F. Langrehr, 85, of Milwaukee and formerly of Sparta, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997 in Milwaukee.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Boll, Milwaukee; two sons, Frederick Joseph Langrehr, Norwalk and Clifford Eugene Langrehr, Milwaukee; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Berniece (Richard) Stickney, Sparta; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Sparta with Rev. Del Begalka officiating.

Margaret E. Hines
BOSCOBEL/LANCASTER, Wis. - Margaret E. Hines, age 79, of Lancaster, formerly of Boscobel, passed away on Friday, October 3, 1997 at Orchard Manor in Lancaster.
She was born on December 14, 1917 in Rockford, Ill.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 1997 at 10 a.m. at the Thoni-Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel.
