Richard Glaser
Richard F. Glaser, 84, of Ridgeland died April 12 at the Barron extended care unit.
Mr. Glaser was born Jan. 10, 1914 to Henry and Angelica (Zuelke) Glaser in the Town of Prairie Farm. He was raised there and then married Artys Buchhloz on Aug. 15, 1936. He farmed in the Town of Wilson in Dunn County for many years, operated the Gambles Store in Ridgeland and worked at the Farmers Union in Ridgeland. He had served as custodian and treasurer at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by a son, Steven of New Brighton, Minn.; a daughter, Sandra Buchner of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Glaser was preceded in death by his wife, Artys, on Jan. 2, 1987.
Vilas Hall
Vilas A. Hall, 88, of Rice Lake died April 12 at the Lakeview Medical Center.
Mr. Hall was born Jan. 13, 1910 to R. Perry and Zella (Ambrose) Hall at Viola. The family moved to the Town of Rice Lake in 1912, where they farmed for many years. He married Lorna Hines Boelter on Jan. 13, 1972 in Rice Lake. Mr. Hall was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Rice Lake Elks Lodge.
He is survived by a stepson, Dan Boelter of Foxfire Village, N.C.; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Odessa "Susie" Mullikin of Rice Lake.
Mata Hover
Mata I. Hover, 82, of Rice Lake and formerly of the Barron area, died April 12 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rice Lake.
Mrs. Hover was born on Aug. 16, 1915 in the Town of Maple Grove in Barron County to George and Cora (Lake) Raven. She grew up there and married William Jergenson in December 1935 in the Town of Clinton, where they farmed. William died in 1956. She married Len Hover on May 8, 1958 at Barron, and the couple farmed in the Town of Barron until retiring and moving to Cameron. They had spent their winters in Florida. Mrs. Hover was a member of the Paul Revere Homemakers.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Jergenson of Barron; a daughter, Arlene Sykes of Townsend, Mont.; two stepsons, Allen Hover of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Harley Hover of Barron; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Seitz of Maple Grove, Minn., and Lois Olson of Canon City, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Raven of Barron and Lyle Raven of Oakdale, Minn.; and a sister, Fern Rexes of Barron.
Mrs. Hover was preceded in death by her second husband, Len, in 1992.
Harold Johnson
Harold H. Johnston, 80, of Rice Lake died suddenly April 13 at his home.
Mr. Johnston was born July 28, 1917 to Esther and Hubert Johnston in Minneapolis. His parents moved to Brooklyn Center, Minn., where he grew up and received his education. After graduating from Brooklyn Center North High School in 1935, he majored in engineering at Dunwoody Trade School in Minneapolis.
On Oct. 12, 1940 he married the former Esther Hanson in Minneapolis. During WW II, he worked at a war plant in New Brighton, Minn., and in 1946 moved with his family to Rice Lake. In 1947 he and brothers Miles and Herbert started a small woodworking firm that grew into Mastercraft Industry. He was active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and in the business community of Rice Lake. He loved nature and photographing its beauty and rock collecting.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Esther; a son, Darwin of Rice Lake; three daughters, Diane McCush and Rena Ulland, both of Rice Lake, and Sylvia Johnston of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; two brothers, John of Rice Lake and Edward of Victorville, Calif; and a sister, Margie Mastrian of Golden Valley, Minn.
William Jensen
William H. Jensen, 70, of Dallas died April 6 at Barron Medical Center.
Mr. Jensen was born Sept. 11, 1927 in the Town of Sioux Creek, Barron County, to Frank and Anna (Minners) Jensen. He grew up there, graduated from the Chetek High School in 1945 and then served in the Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On Sept. 25, 1954 he married Shirley Pelz in Chetek. He hauled milk in the Dallas/Sand Creek area for 20 years, worked briefly for Dairyland Power Co. briefly building highlines and as a heavy equipment operator for Klein Construction of Dallas for 23 years. He also worked for Baldwin Body Shop in Dallas during the winters. Mr. Jensen retired in 1989. He had served on the Dallas Lutheran Church council, the Dallas Fire Department as fire chief and the Dallas Village Board. He was the Dallas Cub Scout Cubmaster for many years and had enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Kim of Clayton and Ken of Dallas; a daughter, Susan Christianson of Chetek; six grandchildren; and a sister, Deloris Johnson of Anaheim, Calif. Mr. Jensen was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen.
Lucetta Johnson
Lucetta "Lucy" Johnson, 73, of Chetek died April 3 at her home.
Mrs. Johnson was born Jan. 19, 1925 in Barron to Alfred and Veva (Ward) Coons. She graduated from Barron High School in 1943 and married Baron Johnson there on Dec. 31, 1945. The couple moved to Almena in 1949 and had lived on Prairie Lake since 1984. In 1967 she began work as a postal clerk in Almena and in 1977 was appointed postmaster. She retired from that position in 1987 and then did volunteer work at Barron Hospital and Riverside Manor, taking her Yorkshire dog, Shadow, to nursing homes around the county. Her favorite charities were the American Cancer Society, Special Olympics and Save the Children Foundation, and she had sponsored several children throughout the years. She enjoyed water aerobics, bus trips, cooking, baking, and collecting cookbooks.
She is survived by her husband, Baron; two daughters, Sharon Jorgensen of Cameron and Debbie Dibble of Spencer; a son, Larry of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five adopted grandchildren; and an adopted great-grandchild. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie, in 1949.
Blanche Jorstad
Blanche Jorstad, 100, of Dallas died March 16 at the Barron Medical Center.
Mrs. Jorstad was born March 1, 1898 at Prairie Farm to Frank and Pauline (Moen) Sprague. She moved with her family to the Ridgeland area and grew up there. Mrs. Jorstad lived most of her life in Chippewa Falls, where she worked for clothing and department stores. She married Axel Jorstad on July 30, 1966 and they resided in Dallas.
She is survived by a stepson, Robert of Dallas, a stepdaughter, Sandra Drentlaw of Northfield, Minn.; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Axel, died April 4, 1973.
George Klump
George W. Klump, 76, of Cameron died April 11 at his home after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Klump was born in the Town of Glendale, Monroe County, on Jan. 18, 1922, to George and Florence (Oldfield) Klump. He grew up in the Kendall-Elroy area, graduated from Elroy High School and then worked as a farm hand in the Kendall area until entering the Army and serving in the Philippine Islands. He later worked for the Ohio Chemical Co. in Madison and at various jobs in Chicago before moving to Rice Lake and working at Paul's Sheet Metal and Roofing. On June 1, 1974, he married the former Phyllis Wiesner in Wausau and retired from Paul's Sheet Metal and Roofing in 1988. Mr. Klump had been a member of the Mikana VFW Post for over 30 years and had served as fire marshal for the Town of Stanley for 7 years.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three sons, Jon of Cameron, Dennis of California; and Jeff of Nevada; two daughters, Jodi of Cameron and DeEtta of Oregon; host daughter, Natalie Latham of Frisco, Colo.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Leonard of Tomah; and five sisters, Frances Britzman of Sparta, Doris Prochaska and Florence Krause, both of Tomah; Angie Saxby of Wilton, and Shirley Winkelman of Portage.
