Irma I. Krause
Irma I. Krause, 96, died Tuesday evening September 30, 1997, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.
She was born in Vernon Co. June 3, 1901, to Albert and Hanna (Stange) Schnick. On June 8, 1920, she married Philip Krause. He died April 14, 1967. The couple farmed in rural Genoa until retiring to Stoddard in 1950. Irma worked as a cook at the Sylvan Glen and Rocky's Supper Clubs for 15 years and then at the Stoddard Elementary School for 10 years. She also provided home care for several neighbors. She was a member of the St. Matthew's Ladies Aid, Green Acres Homemaker's and St. Peter's and St. Matthews Ev. Lutheran Churches. Irma enjoyed baking, handcrafts, her family and children.
Survivors include one son, Ralph (Rose Elaine) Krause of rural Genoa; one daughter, Mrs. Wilburt (Vivian) Beitlich of Stoddard; seven grandchildren, Bruce (Faith) Krause, Kim (Jeff) Snider, Kent (Lori) Krause, Willard (Susan), David (Julie), Orin (Melinda) and Jo Anne Beitlich; ten great-grandchildren, Scott, Rebecca and Andrea Krause, Andrew, Bobbie Jo, Tanya, Thomas, Matthew, Justin and Nicholas Beitlich; and two sisters-in-law, Oretta and Anita Schnick.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wilburt Beitlich; two grandchildren; three brothers, Adolph, Albert and George; and three sisters, Edna, Hilda and Minnie.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 1997, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stoddard. Rev. R.W. Kloehn will officiate with burial in the Stoddard Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Alma L. Olson
TREMPEALEAU, Wis. - Alma L. Olson, age 80, of Trempealeau, Wis. died Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Alma was born December 18, 1916 to Albert and Megnild (Arneson) Kamprud in Ettrick, Wis. She attended area schools and was a life long resident of the Trempealeau and Holmen area. On July 28, 1937 she married Orville Olson in Ettrick, Wis. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, baking and having company.
Alma is survived by her companion of many years, Howard Mahlum; three daughters, Lillian (Ernest) Lundtvedt of Decorah, Iowa, Alvera (Carl) Leibl of Holmen, Gloria (James) Erickson of Houston, Minn.; special nieces and nephew Shirley (Jim) Hansen, Diane Smith and Duane Olson; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester Kamprud of Melrose; two sisters, Dorothy Gunderson of Melrose and Marian (Bert) Brown of West Salem. Alma was preceded in death by her husband in 1959, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, October 6, 1997 at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Jolivette will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Mortuary in Galesville and from noon until 1 p.m. at the church on Monday.
Eva `Nup' Ross Springborn
REDMOUND, Wis. - Eva ``Nup'' Ross Springborn, age 85, of Redmound, rural DeSoto died at her home on Thursday, October 2, 1997. She was born on April 3, 1912 at Purdy in Vernon County to Harrison and Nancy (Sorenson) Oliver. On August 17, 1931 she married Robert ``Bob'' Ross. They farmed in the Retreat area until 1969 when they retired to Viroqua. Mr. Ross died on December 24, 1979. On April 23, 1985 she married Herman Springborn and they have made their home at Redmound. She was a quilter, enjoyed sewing and was an avid dancer and card player. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church at Redmound.
She is survived by her husband, Herman; two daughters, Ardis (Layne) Stillwell of Ferryville, Helen (Guy) Engen of Stoddard; two sons, Howard (Betty) Ross of Viroqua, Gale (Sandra) Ross of Holmen; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Vernon (Ellen) Oliver of DeSoto; four sisters, Ellen Hanthum of Beaver Dam, Phyllis Crum and Orla (Robert) Whitney, both of Viroqua and Gladys Helke of Holmen. She is also survived by three step-daughters, Margaret (Don) Geddes of Burlington, Joyce (Harry) Sutton of Union Grove, Eldoa (Miles) Bohland of DeSoto; five step-sons, Marvin (Alice) Springborn of Holmen, Harlan Springborn of Westby, Roger (Valerie) Springborn, Loren (Marlene) Springborn, Albert (Margaret) Springborn, all of DeSoto; twenty-four step-grandchildren; twenty-two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mae Oliver of Victory, Alice Oliver of La Crosse; other relatives and many friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Verna Hass; and six brothers, Wallace ``Dump,'' LeRoy ``Pete,'' Orville ``Jiggs,'' Fred, Leslie and Kenneth Oliver.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 1997 at the New Hope United Methodist Church at Redmound with Pastor Alice Richards officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call on Sunday, October 5th at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua from 5-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at the church from noon until time of service on Monday. The family requests memorials to the Vernon Memorial Hospice Program.
Mildred I. Krueger
Mildred I. Krueger, 77, of 1025 Liberty Street, formerly of 1637 Charles Street, died at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center, Wednesday, October 1, 1997. She was born April 22, 1920, in La Crosse, to Kurt and Nettie (Lasher) Krueger. She graduated from Logan High School in 1939.
She had been employed as a clerk at McClellan's, J.C. Penny Co. and Montgomery Ward.
Mildred had been a life long member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She had been involved in the United Methodist Women, Elizabeth Kinley Circle, had served as an usher, greeter, choir member and had served on the Administrative Board and Evangelism Committee. She had been active in the community with mission projects, Meals on Wheels, Causeway and had been an active participant in the CROP Walk.
"For Mildred, faith was doing her best, giving of her time and her money and trying to be a true Christian and treating everyone equally."
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Wakefield and Cleo Krueger, both of La Crosse; by a nephew, Tom Krueger and his wife, Judy of Onalaska; nieces, Mara Schellpfeffer and her husband, Rodney and Mary Ellen Krueger, both of La Crosse; by a great-nephew, Michael Krueger; great-nieces, Angie Krueger, Jodie (Jerry) Every, Jackie (Tom) Koenig and Polly (Rodney) Ristow; great-great-niece, Julie Every and great-great nephew, Ryan Koenig and by several cousins including a very special cousin, Worta Hall of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by two brothers, Roger and Albert Krueger and a nephew, Richard Krueger.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The Reverend Wesley Schirmer will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette Street today from 4-6 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
Eleanor E. Breidel
Eleanor E. Breidel, age 98 of La Crosse, died Tuesday, October 1, 1997 in the Franciscan/Skemp Health Care Center. She was born in Breidel Coulee, on January 3, 1899 to Victor and Clara (Karnick) Kemp. She married John F. Breidel in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, La Crosse on June 19, 1923. Eleanor was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member of St. Anne's Altar Society. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by three sons, James Briedel, Paul (Jean) Breidel and Richard (Carol) Breidel all of La Crosse; one daughter, Patricia (John) Hallstein of Simi Valley, Calif. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, John, on April 28, 1952; her daughter-in-law, Helen in November of 1996; two sisters, Bertha and Susan; and her brother, John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 1997, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 So. 13th St., La Crosse. Rev. Larry Berger will officiate, with burial to be held in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Blaschke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are requested to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church or St. Francis Home Hospice.
Richard Kletus Sandau
Richard Kletus Sandau, age 40, of 217 Hinkley Road died on Thursday, October 2, 1997 in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 4th at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Victoria F. Abnet
ONALASKA, Wis. - Victoria F. Abnet, 83, of Onalaska, died Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at the Onalaska Nursing Home. She was born in La Crosse on May 15, 1914 to Joseph and Anastasia (Jelinski) Weiland. She married Frank E. Abnet on September 11, 1946 and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1994. She had been employed by the Auto-Lite Company, the Onalaska School System and the Onalaska Liquor Store. She and her husband had farmed in Sandlake Coulee their entire life. Victoria is survived by a daughter, Nancy and her husband Bud Fee of Onalaska; a son, Deacon Frank and his wife Janet Abnet of Onalaska; two sisters, Frances Tostrud of La Crosse, Helen Swertferger of La Crosse; a brother Bernard and his wife Alice Weiland of La Crosse; grandchildren, Frank and Jacqueline Abnet, Heather and Ryan Fee.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Clara Helfrich; two brothers Harry and John Weiland; and a grandson Joseph Gilbertson Abnet.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 4th, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Reverend William Matzek will officiate. Burial will be at the Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main Street, Onalaska, today from 5-8 p.m. or at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A prayer service will be conducted today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clarence O. Johnson
VIROQUA, Wis. - Clarence O. Johnson, age 88, of Route #4, Viroqua died on Wednesday evening, October 1, 1997 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. He was born in Clayton Township, Crawford County on April 27, 1909 to Ole and Carrie (Rualand) Johnson. He worked as a farm laborer and in recent years has made his home at Vernon Estates, rural Viroqua.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Othelia Johnson of Viroqua; a special friend and caregiver, Jean Knutson of Viroqua; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ingvald Johnson; four half-brothers, Arthur Olson, Peter Olson, Alfred Olson, Sydney Olson and one half-sister, Bertha (Richard) Jacobson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 1997 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Pastor Michael Wollman officiating. Burial will be in the North Kickapoo Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from noon until the time of service.
