Eleanor A. Vogel
Eleanor A. Vogel, 77, of Lake Zurich, Ill., formerly of Palatine, Ill., died April 1, 2002, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill.
She was born Oct. 15, 1924, in St. Petersburg, Fla., to the late Andrew and Carrie (Patterson) Nelson.
She lived most of her adult life in Palatine, before moving to Lake Zurich in March of 2001. On Dec. 26, 1942, she married Carl Vogel in Chicago, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1975.
Survivors include daughter Sandra (Hill) Wonzniek, Antioch, Ill., and brother Andrew (Doris) Nelson, N.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One son, Barry C. Vogel, preceded her in death.
Funeral services and interment will be private. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Spring Grove Funeral Chapel, Spring Grove, Ill.
Alvin Himber
Alvin "Al" Himber, 80, Antioch, Ill., died Friday, March 29, 2002, at the Rolling Hills Manor, Zion, Ill.
He was born to Emil and Rose Himber Sr. on Sept. 22, 1921 in Chicago, moving to Antioch in 1989.
He worked for several years as a truck driver for Air Tite Co. in Chicago retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Local 705 of the Teamsters Union.
On Dec. 20, 1942, in Chicago, he married Dorothee Hansen.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carol Rose Cavanaugh, Gurnee, Ill. and Jodi (Terry) Banser, Trevor, Wis.; sons, Jack (Jeanne) Himber, Chicago and Bob (Tammy) Himber, Spring Grove, Ill.; brothers, Lester and Billy, both of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rick in 1977; five brothers; and two sisters.
He had seven brothers, six of which served in WWII along with a nephew. He served with the 976th M.P. Company as a motorcycle patrolman in Europe during WWII. He was a life member of the V.F.W., Past Commander of "Chicago's Own" Post #1604 and a two term Past Commander of the Antioch Sequoit Post #4551.
Funeral services were held on April 2, 2002 at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch. Interment with military honors was at Hillside Cemetery, Antioch. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Antioch Rescue Squad would be appreciated.

Joshephine R. Lessner
Joshephine Rosa Lessner, 81, Twin Lakes, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the Memorial Hospital of Burlington.
She was born August 16, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Bonaslaw and Mary Kucera.
She married Donald Lessner in Valparaiso, Ind. They lived in Chicago until moving to Twin Lakes 20 years ago.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband; four sisters; and one brother.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Steven P. Olson
Steven P. Olson, 44, Poynette, Wis. died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 28, 1958, in Iola, Wis., the son of Phillip and Caroline Nowak Olson.
He lived in Bassett, Wis. for many years before moving to Mauston, Wis. and then to Poynette two years ago.
He formerly worked for the Watlow-Gordon Co. in Richmond, Ill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his father; sisters, Sandra (Larry) Kosirig, Poynette, Wis. and Suzan (Jeff) Shaw, Poynette, Wis.; brothers, Samuel Olson, Burlington, Wis., Scott Olson, Harvard, Wis., and Stuart (Roxanne) Olson, Powers Lake, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a nephew, Jason Tolle.
Funeral services were held March 30, at the Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home in Twin Lakes with the Rev. Larry Henning of Messiah Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was in Mound Prairie Cemetery.

Romayne B. Schenning
Romayne Bernice Schenning, 77, Custer, S.D., died March 18, 2002, at Custer Community Hospital.
She was born in Burlington on March 16, 1925, to the late Hubert and Helen (Winke) Schenning. She graduated from Washington High School in 1943.
On March 2, 1946, she married Conrad Opoien in Sioux Falls, S.D. They resided in Dell Rapids, S.D., following marriage. He preceded her in death in 1975.
She was employed as a cook at Dell Rapids Public School for 10 years and at Dell Rapids Community Hospital for several years. She was a home health care aide for four years, retiring in 1994. She then spent summers cooking at the Outlaw Ranch in Custer. She moved to Custer in 1999.
She was active in the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, Dell Rapids American Legion Auxiliary, Custer Lutheran Fellowship and the Custer Senior Center. She wrote poetry and was an avid reader.
Survivors include daughters, Karen Schleining, Custer, Nancy (Mark) Rasmussen, Hurley, S.D., and Janet Opoien-Twedt, Custer; sons, David Opoien, Bloomington, Minn., and Tom (Gail) Opoien, Pierre, S.D.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Alisha, Andrea, Beth, Kari, Reid, Greg, Jane, Libby, Joseph and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Brendan and Joshua; a brother, Warren Schenning, Burlington; special nephew, Don (Jan) Hallem, Las Cruces, N.M.; and cousin Jetty Schuerman, Burlington.
She was further preceded in death by an infant son, Karl.
Funeral services were held March 21 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. The Rev. Mark Docken officiated. Burial was in West Nidaros Cemetery, Rural Baltic, S.D. Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids, handled arrangements.
Michael E. Uhen
Michael E. Uhen, 40, Franklin, formerly of New Munster, died March 29, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee.
He was born in Burlington on July 28, 1961, to William and Genevieve (Hunsbusher) Uhen. He attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School, New Munster, St. Mary's High School, Burlington, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
On April 20, 1994, he married Kris Kirschbaum in Milwaukee.
He worked in sales at Tricom Funding.
Survivors include his wife, Franklin; a daughter, Emily Genevieve, and a son, Nicholas Michael, both at home; his father, New Munster; a brother, John, New Munster; sisters, Jane (Case) Cavanaugh, Brookfield, and Barb Uhen, Milwaukee; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
A funeral Mass was celebrated April 3 at St. Alphonsus Church, New Munster. Burial was in St. Alphonsus Church Cemetery. Mas A. Sass and Sons Funeral Home, Milwaukee, handled arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated.
Robert F. Johnson
Robert F. Johnson, 70, Salem, died Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Aurora Health Care Center, Kenosha.
He was born October 22, 1931 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of the late Henry L. and Stella (nee Keister) Johnson.
On March 2, 1957 he married Mary Jane Bell in Waterloo, Iowa. They moved to Illinois, living in Lindenhurst, Round Lake and Zion before moving to Center Lake, Wis. in 1993 and Salem in 1998.
From 1947 until 1948 he served in the Iowa National Guard as an M.P. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class, from 1951 until 1955, with service aboard the USS Philippine Sea.
He was a member of the VFW Post 4308 in Lake Villa, Ill. and was a past adjutant.
He was a member of the Antioch Evangelical Free Church and was a former member and trustee of the Lake Region Bible Church in Round Lake. At the time of his retirement, he was a maintenance engineer for the Waukegan School District #60.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Michael Ray and Scott Arthur, both of Salem, and Ronald Dean of Green Bay; a daughter, Brenda Jane (William) West, Antioch, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Shannon, Benjamin, Daniel, Joshua, Zachariah, Tiffany, Kateri and Carie; brothers, Link (Karen) of Iowa and Peter (Theresa) of Calif., sisters, Fay (Larry) Johnson of Calif. and Myrtle (Jack) Price of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Ray and Jake; and a sister Donna.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at the Strang Funeral Home. interment was in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, Wis. Those desiring may make contributions to the Campus Crusade for Christ, in his memory.
