Anthony A. Zwirgzdas
Anthony A. Zwirgzdas, 74, Beloit, died March 8, 2002, at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Pleasant Prairie on May 12, 1927, to the late Anton and Helen (Danauski) Zwirgzdas.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
On Nov. 28, 1949, he married Norma Nelson in Brighton.
He was employed in maintenance by the Burlington, Parkview and Turner school districts, and Parkside-Kenosha, Beloit and Waukesha County Technical colleges.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Beloit, was a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer firefighter for 20 years.
He enjoyed his family, farming, gardening and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Anthony C. (Cheryl), Cincinnati, Ohio, James P. (Shawn), Salem, and Richard P. (Margy), Burlington; a daughter, Marion K. (Jerry) Hall, Johnson, Iowa; grandchildren, Mike, Kris, Mark and Amanda Zwirgzdas and Kate and David Hall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four sisters; and a grandson, Paul Zwirgzdas.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 12 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. The Rev. Gary Krahenbuhl officiated. Burial was in Mount Thabor Cemetery, Beloit. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, Beloit, handled arrangements.

Frank A. Rudolph, Sr.
Frank A. "Rudy" Rudolph, Sr., 76, Johnsburg, Ill., died March 2, 2002, at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1925, in Spring Grove, the son of Russell and Susanna (Justen) Rudolph Sr.
On April 21, 1950, in Mundelein, Ill., he married Gladis Staples.
He was a graduate of Richmond-Burton High School. He was a cement finisher, owning Frank Rudolph & Sons Cement until 1973. He then worked for George Hiller and Sons until retiring in 1990.
He was a member of McHenry County Fair Association and served as superintendent of the Rabbit Division for many years. He was a member of the Johnsburg Community Club and a former member of the McHenry Moose Lodge #691. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus and had the real white beard and mustache.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sindy (Cyril) Popp Jr., Johnsburg, Suzanne (Steve) Devereaux and Sandra (Edward) Olesak, both of Pistakee Highlands; sons, John (Bonnie) Rudolph, Island Lake, Russell (Kay) Rudolph, Capron; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Paul) Linak, Richmond; three brothers, Leroy (Lorraine) Rudolph, Apache Junction, Ariz., Louis (Diane) Rudolph, Coloma, Wis., and George Rudolph, Spring Grove; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frank Jr. and two brothers, Russell Jr. and Richard.
Funeral services were held on March 6 at Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home in Richmond with the Rev. Jan Parsons Comerford officiating. Cremation will follow with interment at Willow Lawn Cemetery in Mundelein at a later date.
The Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home assisted the family.
Steve S. Schmitt
Steve S. Schmitt, 84 Elkhorn, died Feb. 12, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Johnsburg, Ill., on Sept. 21, 1917, to the late John M. and Elizabeth (Thelen) Schmitt.
On Jan. 15, 1941, he married Estelle A. May at St. John's Catholic Church, Johnsburg.
He was a dairy farmer in the Town of Lafayette from 1958 until retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Elkhorn, former grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, served on the F.H.A. Board of Directors, was a member of the Farm Bureau, the AMPI and a former member of the Town of Lafayette Planning Commission and the Johnsburg Tiger baseball team. He attended the Tigers' alumni annual reunion the past 25 years.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sharon (Edward) Christensen, Antioch, Ill., Louise (Robert) Bleser, Janeen (Jerry) Mehring and Lisa (Dan) Cooper, all Elkhorn; a son, Kenneth Schmitt, Elkhorn; grandchildren: Melissa Shaw (Mark Messina), Robert (Mary) Bleser, Richard (Vickie) Bleser, Brian Bleser (Joanne Holden), Deborah (Darren) Noe, Lynette (Brian) Edwards, Sheila Joost (Mike Troemel), Sabrina Joost (Neil Waswo), and Kevin, Kelsey and Keaton Cooper; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Andrew Shaw, Bridget and Brooke Bleser, Bailey Bleser, Justin, and Jacob and Jarren Noe; a sister, Alma Freund, Crystal Lake, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Martha Schmitt, Johnsburg.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Emma Elizabeth; eight brothers and three sisters.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 16 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Elkhorn. The Revs. Michael Benham and Everett Hiller officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Elkhorn. Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home, Elkhorn, handled arrangements.

Sharefa Ehni
Sharefa Ehni, 67, Yorkville, died Feb. 17, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Racine.
She was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 23, 1934, to the late Joseph and Martha (Erdmann) Ahmad. Her early life was spent in Milwaukee and Racine. She attended Horlick High School, Racine.
On May 8, 1961, she married Delton Ehni in Waukegan, Ill. They lived in Yorkville following marriage.
She was employed by Chrysler-American Motors.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Union Grove. She enjoyed Bible studies, bowling, cooking, gardening, shopping, craft fairs and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Yorkville; a daughter, Cynthia (Jim) Dahnert; brothers, Alfie Ahmad, Jimmy (Delores) Ahmad and Ed (Marcie) Ahmad; a sister, Mary (Richard) Moldenauer; brothers-in-law, Ellery (Eleanor) Ehni and Gerald (Norma) Ehni; grandchildren, Jon and Nick; many nieces and nephews; dear friends, Maria and Scottie; and her dog, Daisy.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Omar Ahmad and Shareef Ahmad; a nephew, Corey Moldenauer; and a sister-in-law, Beate Ahmad.
Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. James Keuch. Burial was in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Charles J. Hewson Jr.
Charles J. Hewson Jr., 71, Twin Lakes, died Feb. 21, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Cicero, Ill., on April 4, 1930, to the late Charles J. and Ann (Beranek) Hewson Sr.
He served as a tank driver in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Marilynn R. Brown at St. John's Catholic Church, Twin Lakes. They lived in Burlington before moving to Twin Lakes in 1954. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1996.
He worked for many years as a carpet installer for the Lynch Carpet Co., Elkhorn, and Kadisik Carpets, McHenry, Ill.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Twin Lakes, where he sang in the church choir. He was involved in Cub Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include daughters, Lynn (Dale) Roderick and Lauren (Paul) Davis, both Genoa City; a son, Paul, Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Kozu) Hewson, Rhinelander; and a sister, Corrine (Donald) Peterson, Burlington.
He was further preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at the Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home, Twin Lakes. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery.

Philippine Rudus
Philippine Rudus, 77, Lake Geneva, died Feb. 24, 2002, at Lakeland Hospital, Burlington.
She was born in Konenigstaedten, Germany, on Nov. 17, 1924. Her early life was spent in Konenigstaedten. She received her education in Germany.
On Dec. 21, 1951, she married Nickoli Rudus in Konenigstaedten, where they lived following marriage, before moving to South Bend, Ind. in 1956. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1976.
She was employed at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
She had been a Lake Geneva resident since 1999.
Survivors include daughters, Karen (Ronald) Brzenk, Oneonta, N.Y., and Renate (Michael) Daniels, Richmond, Ill.; grandchildren, Kevin (Denise) Brzenk, David Brzenk, Michelle (Kris) Henke and Andrea Daniels; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Samantha and Tiffany Brzenk and Mackenzie and Katelyn Henke.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington. The Rev. Mark Nutting officiated. Cremation has taken place.
Donald J. Kurylo
Donald J. Kurylo, 68, Bristol, died Feb. 22, 2002, at Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, Ill.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., on May 27, 1933, to the late Louis and Mary (Markowski) Kurylo. His early life was spent in Chicago, where he graduated from Wells High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On May 4, 1957, he married Bernadine Strach at St. Genevieve Church, Chicago. They lived in Chicago following marriage.
He was employed as a manager at Illinois Bell Telephone for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He also helped run the family farm in Bristol with his son. He had been a Bristol resident since 1973.
He was a member of Super Sams Camping Club, Bristol Drift Busters Snowmobile Club and the Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed camping and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife, Bristol; a son, Glenn (Jane), Racine; a brother, Robert (Bonnie), Lake Villa, Ill.; sisters, Lorraine (Edwin) Semmerling, Appleton, and Claudette (Steven) Milewski, Schaumberg, Ill.; and grandchildren, Austin and Kelsey, both Racine.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Kurylo Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 26 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. The Rev. Howard Haase officiated. Entombment was in All Saints Mausoleum, Kenosha. Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home handled arrangements.
