GALESVILLE, Wis. - Sylvia A. Peterson, 67, of Galesville, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, in Onalaska Care Center, Onalaska, Wis. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville. Burial will be in Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until services Wednesday at the church. James Cook
VIOLA, Wis. - James Cook, 67, of Viola, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997 in Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Sime Funeral Home, Readstown. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Desmond J. Dunne
TWO RIVERS, Wis. - Desmond J. Dunne, age 74, of 3121 School St., Two Rivers, died Sunday morning, December 28, 1997, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 1997, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Robert Sullivan will officiate at the service and entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.
Desmond was born October 11, 1923, in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland, son of the late John J. and Kathleen Anderson Dunne. He graduated from high school in New York. Desmond served with the United States Army during World War II. On November 20, 1970, he married Geraldine Lubach, in Rockford, Ill. Desmond was employed with St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., as a Unit Manager, retiring in 1984. He then was employed as a Home Care Companion by Home Health Care, Manitowoc. He was a member of the Shamrock Club of La Crosse and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, Two Rivers; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Dunne, San Diego, Calif., Phyllis and Jim Schnettler, Sheboygan Falls and Patricia and Rick Herman, Whitelaw; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kitty Dunne, La Crosse, Mark and Jill Dunne, Holmen, Wis.; four grandchildren, David and Mark Schnettler, Rachel and Allison Dunne; one brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Alice Dunne; nieces, other relatives and friends also survive.
Friends may call at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home, this evening from 5 until 7 p.m., and at the church Wednesday morning from 10 until 11 a.m.
Desmond was truly ``the largest Leprechaun'' alive. His goal was to educate and promote Irish History and Folklore. If he could accomplish this by telling a tale or using humor he was the happiest. After all, he couldn't be Irish without using Blarney. In loving memory of our dear father and husband:

Catherine Jost
CASHTON, Wis. - Catherine Jost, age 97, of Cashton, died Saturday, December 27, 1997, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, Wis.
She was born August 17, 1900, to Peter and Cecilia (Pinzka) Jost in the Town of Jefferson. Catherine was a member of both Pine Hollow and Sacred Heart Churches. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31, 1997, from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Father Al Wozniak will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Pine Hollow.
Relatives and friends may call at the Torkelson Funeral Chapel in Cashton Tuesday, December 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 8 p.m. They may also call the day of services at the funeral chapel from 9 to 10:45 a.m.
George "Doc" Strauss
George "Doc" Strauss, age 84, of 1812 Madison Street, died in the Hillview Health Care Center on Tuesday, December 23, 1997. He was born in Bangor on August 2, 1913 to Dr. George and Selina (Dahl) Strauss. He graduated from Bangor High School. George entered the U.S. Army in January, 1942, where he earned the Legion of Merit Award. He married Avonelle Jefson on September 15, 1945 and she preceded him in death on June 6, 1992. He was retired from United Auto Supply and was a member of the American Legion Post #52.
He is survived by his brother, John (Rita) Strauss of La Crosse; five nieces; and three nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, James Strauss.
Services will be held on Friday, December 26 at 11 a.m. at the Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home, La Crosse. Reverend Luther Borgen will officiate and entombment will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum, with military rites by American Legion Post #52. Friends may call at the Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
George N. Aldrich
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - George N. Aldrich, age 57, of Black River Falls, died Monday, December 22, 1997 at University Hospital in Madison. He was born July 25, 1940 in Black River Falls to George and Rowena McPeak Aldrich. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1958. George was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by one son, George Aldrich Jr. of Long Beach, California; one daughter, Loey Felker of Merrillan; one sister, Sandra (Larry) Deurloo of Monona; two grandchildren, Jamie and Georry Felker; two nieces, Rae Deurloo of Madison and Renae Dale of Oakdale, Minnesota; and one aunt, Jane Lawson of La Harpe, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Jo Aldrich.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 27, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the White Funeral Home in Tomah. Rev. Jay Klopfenstein will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Visitation will be Friday, December 26, 1997 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services, both at the White Funeral Home.
Nelvin J. Johnson
MILWAUKEE/SPARTA, Wis. - Nelvin J. Johnson, 50, of Milwaukee and formerly of Sparta, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997 at home. He was born in Sparta on Dec. 25, 1946, the son of Kenneth and Dorothy Johnson. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1965. He attended two years at WWTC in La Crosse and studied accounting. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967 and served from August 8, 1967 until January 4, 1971. He served in Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in Viet Nam, and was injured from a booby trap and received 100 percent disability. He spent 29 months at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He lived in Sparta until 1985 when he moved to Milwaukee. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, by Rev. Skindrud; was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2112 of Sparta; he also volunteered to drive patients to their doctor appointments.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Cheryl (Robert) Hammer of Tomah, and Barbara (Gary) Ewers of Tomah; two brothers, Steven (Kathy) Johnson of Sparta and Michael Johnson of Sparta; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Rev. Jeffrey Miller officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 of Sparta will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. Friends are asked to call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.; and at the church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Juliette Kenworthy
VIOLA/LA FARGE, Wis. - Juliette Kenworthy, 100, of Viola and formerly of La Farge, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 in Bethel Home, Viroqua. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in La Farge United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Seland Funeral Home, La Farge, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service; and from noon until the time of services Monday at the Church.
Ardis I. Preuss
UNION CENTER, Wis. - Ardis I. Preuss, age 70 years, died on Monday, December 22, 1997 at the St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital in Hillsboro. She was born on September 30, 1927 to Martin and Ella (Meyers) Olson. On May 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donald Preuss at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Parsonage. Ardis lived in the Elroy-Union Center area all her life, where she was a farm wife and a homemaker and was also a member of the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Union Center; two sons, Don (Susan) of La Crosse and Dean (Virginia) of Elroy; two daughters, Dianne (John) Lawry of Elroy and Debbie (Jim) Jackson of LaValle; one sister, Evelyn (Raymond) Zirk of Elroy; one brother, Martin (Helen) Olson of Reedsburg; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, with Rev. Fred Fedke officiating. Burial will follow in Elroy City Cemetery.
