Harvey H. Pfaff
BANGOR, Wis. - Harvey H. Pfaff, 96, of rural Bangor, died Thursday, December 18, 1997 at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem. He was born January 12, 1901 in the town of Farmington, to Milton and Lonnie (Kirchner) Pfaff. Harvey farmed in the rural Bangor area for many years until his retirement. He continued raising potatoes and enjoyed giving them to his many friends. Harvey also was a volunteer delivering meals on wheels to Bangor residents and would take care of doing errands for those that needed help. He always looked forward to time spent with other people.
Survivors include a sister, Sylvia (Henry) Stetzer of Hokah, Minn.; a brother, Edgar Pfaff of Caledonia, Minn.; five grandchildren, Judy Lasko of Cashton, Vicky (Jim) Johnson of Bangor, Terry Bjorkman of Cashton, Scott Bjorkman of West Salem and Shelley Bjorkman of Rockland; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Bjorkman; two brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dece,ber 20 at 1 p.m. from St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Bangor. Rev. Roy Hefti will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of service. Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.

Yvonne L. Bird
WAUZEKA, Wis. - Yvonne L. Bird, 80, of Wauzeka, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in United Methodist Church, Wauzeka. Burial will be in Wauzeka Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Thoni-Kendall Funeral Home, Boscobel; and from noon until the time of services Saturday at the church.

Verna E. Peterson
BLAIR, Wis. - Verna E. Peterson, age 80, of rural Blair, Wis., died on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Verna was born on June 11, 1917 in Northfield, Wis., to Andy and Elvina (Fagernes) Linberg. She married Irvin M. Peterson June 10, 1939 in the French Creek Lutheran Church parsonage in rural Ettrick, Wis. He preceded her in death September 11, 1991.
Verna farmed with her husband in rural Blair and was also employed with the Countryside Lefse Company in Blair for many years. She was an active member of the Fagernes Lutheran Church, its WELCA and Priscilla Circle, and also taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Peterson will be remembered for her love of her family and of the many gifts that she made for them, especially at Christmas, and her unselfish giving of her time for others.
Verna is survived by three sons, Lyle (Sharon) of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Gaylord (Cindy) of Blair, Wis., and Dean (Patricia) of Cambridge, Wis.; four daughters, Darlene (Bud) Farnsworth of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Lana (Roger) Anderegg and Fern Peterson, both of Blair, Wis., and Janet (Steve) Burki of Beloit, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fernanda (Herman) Noren of rural Blair, Wis. In addition to her parents and husband, Verna was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Fagernes Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery, both in rural Blair, Wis. Revs. Kevin Jones and John Twiton will officiate. Visitation will be today, December 19, 1997 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair, Wis.; and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

Michael John Walleser
LANSING, Iowa - Michael John Walleser, infant son of Fred and Dora Walleser of Lansing, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He is survived by his parents; a sister, Natasha; a twin brother, Ethan; and grandparents. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, where there will be a 7 p.m. scripture reading.

Herbert A. `Herb' Sukopp
HIXTON, Wis. - Herbert A. ``Herb'' Sukopp, 86, of Hixton, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 in Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hixton. Burial will be in Trinity Rest Cemetery, Hixton. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton; and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Roman P. Waniorek
INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Roman P. Waniorek, 84, of Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 in Grand View Care Center, Blair. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and an 8 p.m. rosary, and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, both at the Edison Funeral Home, Independence.

Mildred O. Richmond
Mildred O. Richmond, 93, formerly of 1802 Bainbridge Street, died Friday, December 19, 1997, at Bethany Riverside. She was born October 16, 1904, in Adams Valley, to Henry and Anna (Gresseth) Garves. She married Judson Richmond November 22, 1922, at Winona.
He preceded her in death on July 25, 1983.
She had been an employee of the Auto-Lite.
She was selected as the Autumn Queen for the 1985-86 Oktoberfest.
She is survived by two daughters, Vivian (Fred) Rohrer and Jean (Paul) Breidel, both of La Crosse; by eleven grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The Reverend Wesley White will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette Street, on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.
The family suggests memorials to Bethany Riverside or to Hospice, in lieu of flowers.

Susan Stenberg
ONALASKA, Wis. - Susan Kay Stenberg, 53, of 611 Monroe Street, died at home, in the presence of her loving family, on Friday, December 19, 1997. She was born on September 30, 1944, the daughter of Stanley and Vivian (Johnson) Lundgren. She married David E. Stenberg on May 2, 1965, at Caledonia, Minnesota. She was employed by the Franciscan Health Care Center in Onalaska.
She is survived by her mother, Vivian Lundgren of Onalaska; three daughters, Dawn Krause (Sam Marcus), Denise (Robert) Delao and Donna (William) Blank, all of Onalaska; four sons, Scott (Babette), Colin (Debbie) and Mark Stenberg, all of Holmen and Kevin of La Crosse; fourteen grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Lundgren of Onalaska, Jim Lundgren of Dakota, Minnesota and David Lundgren; a sister, Donia (Charles) Lenser of La Crosse; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Mike La Mere.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and a granddaughter, Amanda.
``He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.''
``Susan was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.''
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main Street, Onalaska. The Reverend Norris Baumann will officiate. Burial will be in the Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Norman C. Guse
PIGEON FALLS, Wis. - Norman C. Guse, age 87, of Pigeon Falls, Wis. died on Friday, December 19, 1997, in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, Wis.
Norman was born May 9, 1910, in the Trempealeau County town of Hale to Gust and Elsie (Reimer) Guse. He married Helen P. Olson on October 26, 1933, in Chimney Rock.
Norman farmed for a few years prior to his employment with the Trempealeau County Highway Department for forty years retiring in 1975. He was a member of Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Whitehall and a past member of the Pigeon Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Guse is survived by his wife, Helen; three brothers, Fred and Henry (Josephine) Guse, both of Whitehall, Wis. and David (Shirley) Guse of Hazel Green, Ariz.; a sister, Lelia Anstead of Anderson, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Everett.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. in Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery, both in rural Whitehall, Wis. Rev. Roger Eden will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 1997, from 4-8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall, Wis. and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Agnes Uss
ELMHURST, New York - Agnes Uss, 83, Elmhurst, N.Y., died after a long illness on Dec. 18, 1997. She was born March 5, 1914. Survivors are her four sons, John (Ann), New York City; Dr. Michael (June), Onalaska; Tom (Stephanie) Huntsville, Ala.; George (Joyce) Merrick, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22 in St. Adelberts Church, Elmhurst, N.Y.

Marilyn Jane Mezera
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Marilyn Jane Mezera, 61, of Prairie du Chien, Wis. died on Friday, December 19, 1997, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 1997, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wauzeka, Wis. Burial in Wauzeka Cemetery, Wauzeka. Friends may call at the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home in Wauzeka on Monday, December 22, 1997 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Ethel G. Nelson
BOSCOBEL, Wis. - Ethel G. Nelson, 99, of Boscobel, Wis. and formerly of Excelsor, died on Thursday, December 18, 1997, at Boscobel Area Health Care in Boscobel. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 21, 1997, at 1 p.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Boscobel, Wis. Burial in Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel. Friends may call at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday, December 21, 1997, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home of Boscobel is assisting the family.

Shari L. Venell
Shari L. Venell, 60, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, December 18 in La Crosse. She was born in La Crosse on January 30, 1937, to Arthur and Gladys (Hardie) Boe. Shari was involved with a modeling career earlier in her life and was also a radio personality in the late 50's. She is survived by one daughter, Kristi (Frank) Wolf of La Crosse; one son, Jason True of La Crosse; two grandchildren; her mother, Gladys (Orris) Oliver of La Crosse; two brothers, Ronald Boe of Onalaska and Gerald (Carol) Boe of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Arthur, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Anders ``Andi'' Venell.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, at 1 p.m. from the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev's Mark A. Anderson, Duane Baardseth and Doyle Pleggenkuhle will officiate. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 12 noon until the time of services.
