PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Laura S. Lastovka, 102, of Prairie du Chien, Wis. died Thursday, December 18, 1997, at Prairie Health Care Center in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at the Bible Baptist Church, Prairie du Chien. Burial in Shanghi Ridge Cemetery, Eastman, Wis. Friends may call on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Glen F. Miner
Glen F. Miner, 68, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, December 18, 1997, in his home. He was born on April 18, 1929, in Beloit, Wis. to Sidney and Freda (Dahlby) Miner. Glen married Janet S. Nelson on December 18, 1973, in Decorah, Iowa. He was a conductor with Burlington Northern Railroad for over 20 years until his retirement in 1991. He was also a longtime member of North Presbyterian Church.
Glen is survived by his wife, Janet; three daughters, Venita (James) Secord of Stone Mountain, Ga., Cindy Lou (Bill) Feyen of Galesville, Wis. and Melinda (Randy) Snell of Waynesville, Missouri; a step-daughter, Ellen Nordstrom (Mike) Parker of Onalaska; a step-son, Walter Rhomberg; and his friend, Joni Hafner of La Crosse; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Donna Miner, who is a resident at the Hillview Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bryan; and a brother, Duane.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 1997, at 11 a.m. at North Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Allan Townsend will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Verna E. Kjos
AMES, Iowa - Verna E. Kjos, 92, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of La Crosse, died December 13, 1997 of complications of osteoporosis. Memorial Celebration of Life Services were held Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997 in Ames, Iowa. Assured Care Funeral Services, Ankeny, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn Bates Cooper
STODDARD, Wis. - Kathryn Bates Cooper, age 83, of Stoddard, died Friday, December 19, 1997, in her home. She was born July 2, 1914, at rural De Soto to James and Edna (Kish) Armoto. She was united in marriage to William Bates on February 10, 1934. They lived near Ferryville. William died on September 16, 1967, and in 1970 Kathryn moved to De Soto. On October 25, 1977, she married Loren Cooper and they lived in Seneca until his death on June 20, 1985. In 1986, Kathryn returned to De Soto and later moved to Stoddard. She was a member of the De Soto VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, William (Mary) Bates of Stockholm, Wis. and Lesley (Ann) Bates of Rockford, Ill.; six daughters, Lorraine (Robert) Wolfe of Broadhead, Dorothy Olson of Seneca, Marlene (Robert) Nelson of Fairfield, Calif., Marilyn (Robert) Pink of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Elinor Nelson of Readstown and Kathryn (Robert) Wurtzel of Stoddard; 33 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nick (Janice) Armoto of Greenfield, Tex. and Dale Armoto of Rockford; five sisters, Doris Henneberry of Minneapolis, Joyce Boardman of St. Louis, Marjorie Gilman of De Soto, Rose Jacobson and Diane Armoto both of La Crosse. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Annetta Bates; one grandson, Lesley Bates Jr.; three sons-in-law, Donald Olson Sr., Lawrence Nelson Sr. and Bill Olson; seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 1997, at 11 a.m. in the Larson Funeral Home in De Soto. Pastor Alice Richards will officiate with burial in the Victory Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Friends may also call after 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Ardythe Z. Meyer
NORWALK, Wis. - Ardythe Z. Meyer, 81, of Norwalk, died Saturday evening, Dec. 13, 1997, at the Tomah Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Jon) Hanson and Cherilyn (Charles) Hare of Greenwood, Wis., and Connie (Dennis) Hammon, Ontario; one son, Kenneth Betts, Norwalk; nine grandchildren, Shella (Mark) Christopherson, Dana (Tim) Kramer, Paul Hanson, Wendy (Kent) Hinker, Brian Hare, Jennifer, Jake, Skylar and Bailey Hammon; five great-grandchildren, Kari, Emily and Cody Christopherson, Megan and Sean Kramer; three sisters-in-law, Jennie Maatanen, Lake Bluff, Ill., Laura Arnold, Tuscon, Ariz., and Winifred Hiesel, Valley, Wis.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Norwalk, with the Rev. Jennie Schroeder and Rev. Allan Tripp officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Norwalk, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 to 11 a.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Richard William Hoenshel
KENOSHA, Wis. - Richard William Hoenshel, 59, of Kenosha, Wis., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, in the Washington Manor.
He was born March 16, 1938, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of John William and Margaret (Stoehr) Hoenshel. He was educated in schools in La Crosse and moved to Kenosha in 1959. He was in the Army from 1956 to 1958. He worked for AMC then Chrysler for 30 years until retiring in 1989. He is a former member of Local 72 UAW. He was also active in bowling leagues for many years.
He is survived by his father, John W. Hoenshel of La Crosse; two sisters, Yvonne Potter of Buffalo, Minn., and Louise Smith of Maud, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret and stepfather, George Holdt.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 7 p.m. at the Proko Funeral Home-West 5111 60th Street, Kenosha. Interment on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent, Minn.
Friends may call on Tuesday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
Theodore ``Ted'' Raaum
VIROQUA, Wis. - Theodore ``Ted'' Raaum, age 83, of rural Viroqua, died on Saturday morning, December 13, 1997, at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home where he had been a resident since July 25, 1996. He had suffered a severe stroke on July 15, 1997.
He was born on October 26, 1914, in the Town of Sterling, Vernon County, on the Raaum home farm to Peter and Mary (Torgerson) Raaum. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of South West Prairie Lutheran Church. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1933. He worked for three years at Marachowsky's Grocery Store in Viroqua. He then began farming. On November 18, 1950, he married Jeanette Churness at the Mount Sterling Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Gideons, Christian Business Men's Club and participated in other fellowships. He retired from farming in 1991. He enjoyed gardening, including raising strawberries and raspberries. His love for the outdoors included making firewood.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; one son, Peter (Diane) Raaum of rural Ferryville; two daughters, Gloria (Nardy) Stascavage of Plaine, Mont.; Anita Raaum of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Carline Kandall and Julia Raaum; and four brothers, Thomas, Julius, Henry and Herman Raaum.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 1997, at the South West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua, with Pastor Helen Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church after 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Thomas A. Bicha
BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Thomas A. Bicha, 51, of Burnsville, Minn., died Sunday, Dec. 14.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Tim (Lisa), Jeremy, Curtis, Chrissy and Jennifer; granddaughter, Makenzie; parents, Edward Sr. and Marian of La Crosse, Wis.; brother, Edward Jr. (Paulette); sisters, Jane (Robert) Lash of Canton, Mass., JoAnn (Gary) Raymond; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4625 W. 125th St., Savage, Minn.
Visitation Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment in St. John's Cemetery.

Albert F. Fruechte
NEW ALBIN, Iowa - Albert F. Fruechte, 91, of New Albin, Iowa, died Sunday, December 14, 1997 at the Thornton Manor Care Center, Lansing, Iowa. He was born January 12, 1906 in Allamakee County, Iowa, to Herman and Sophia (Deters) Fruechte. On January 23, 1951, Albert married Norma Paus in Frankfort, Ill. Albert was employed by the New Albin Savings Bank from 1926 until 1986, when he semi-retired. He then continued to work at the bank on a part time basis. Albert was active in the community, serving on many organizations. He also was an active member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in New Albin.
Survivors include his wife, Norma of New Albin; a daughter, Renee (Mark) Hammell of Lansing, Iowa; two sons, Steven Fruechte of La Crosse, Wis., and Barry (Lisa) Fruechte of New Albin; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Levi Hammell, and Betsy, Bart, Jay and Sophia Fruechte; a sister, Hilda Bunge of Spring Grove, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Fruechte of Caledonia, Minn. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 18 at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin. Rev. Roger Peterson will officiate. Burial will take place at a later time. Friends may call at the New Albin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.; and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.
Richard H. Babcock
LA CRESCENT, Minn. - Richard H. Babcock, 62, of La Crescent, Minn., died on Sunday, December 14, 1997 at the Tomah VA Medical Center. He was born in Viroqua, Wis., on October 26, 1935 to Hollis and Florence (DeWitt) Babcock. Richard was a winter resident of Floral City, Fla., and was active in the Floral City Lions Club. He was a member of the Gittens Leidel American Legion Post 595, La Crescent, and had proudly served in the United States Navy for 25 years.
He is survived by three sisters, Marilyn Owen of La Crosse, Margaret (James) Fritsch of Sun City, Ariz., and Louise Heintz of Holmen; one brother, Ted Babcock of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and many special friends in Floral City, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 18 at 1 p.m. from the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. J.L. Mattes will officiate. His body was cremated, and disposition at sea, with military rites, will be done by the Navy at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until the time of services.
