BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Alice L. Bagan, age 87, of Black River Falls, Wis. died on Thursday, February 5, 1998, in the Pine View Nursing Home where she had been a resident for two weeks. Funeral services will be Monday, February 9, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Black River Falls. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Torgerson's Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at the funeral chapel on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Melfred O. Anderson, 86, of La Crosse and formerly of the Taylor area, died on Friday, February 6, 1998, at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 1998, at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton. Burial will take place in Curran Valley Cemetery, rural Taylor. Friends may call at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Alvin "Hoppy" Hopkins
CASHTON, Wis. - Alvin "Hoppy" Hopkins, age 77, of Cashton, died on Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua.
Alvin was born November 14, 1920, in Rockton, Wis. to Aaron and Tillie (Jacobson) Hopkins. He was married to Myrtle Frydenlund April 4, 1944, and she died Feb. 2, 1979. He then married Martha Johnson-Marx October 24, 1982.
Hoppy was a machinist for International Harvester many years. When he moved to Cashton he was employed by The Village and Wonder Wash Car Wash. He served his country in the Armed Forces and was a member of the Cashton V.F.W. and the American Legion.
Hoppy is survived by his wife, Martha; three children, Allyn and (Elvena) Hopkins of San Antonio, Texas, Nancy (John) Reynolds of Waukegan, Ill. and Ricky (Sue) Hopkins of Kenosha, Wis.; eight step-children, Richard (Cindi Bortz) Marx of Rochester, Minn., Robert (Cyndee) Marx of Washburn, Wis., Rolland Marx of Westby, Wis., Russell (Kathy) Marx of Rockland, Wis., Mary Jo (Tim) Severson of Holmen, Wis., Rodney (Lori) Marx of St. Joseph Ridge, Wis., Roger (Laura Renau) Marx of Ashland, Wis., Randy (Stephine Moss) Marx of La Crosse, Wis.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 22 step-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Myrtle, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Otto, Bertrum and Louie; four sisters, Lelia Stout, Goldie Hopkins, Vivian Hopkins and Elizabeth Watkins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Cashton with Pastor Gregory Geier officiating. Relatives are asked to call at the Torkelson Funeral Chapel in Cashton on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. They may also call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. to the time of the service. Burial will be on Tuesday in the Highland Park Cemetery in Libertyville, Illinois.

DORCHESTER, Iowa - Jared P. Byrnes, 19, of Dorchester, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 6, of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident near Waukon. Michael J. Asada
MASON CITY, Iowa/VIROQUA, Wis. - Michael J. Asada, age 49, of Mason City, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, February 5, 1998 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City from complications of multiple sclerosis.
He was born on December 4, 1948 in Racine, Wis. to Frank and Patricia (McCoy) Asada. He served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from University of Long Beach in California. He had been a professional landscaper and was a teacher before being disabled. He had been a resident of the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia Asada of Mason City; four sons, Frankie Asada of Santa Ana, Calif., Steven, Sean and Daniel of Forest City, Iowa; one daughter, Michelle Quimby of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Katie Homentowski of Citrus Heights, Calif., Terry Koett of Parker, Ariz.; and a special friend, Linda Thompson of Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 1998 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, Wis., with Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery at La Farge, Wis. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday after 11 a.m.
Neal Orlando Nottestad
CASHTON, Wis. - Neal Orlando Nottestad, age 93, of Cashton, died Friday, February 6, 1998 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, Wisconsin.
He was born April 26, 1904 in Westby, Wisconsin to Nels and Ottina (Johnson) Nottestad. He was married to Betty Jane Malphy on October 11, 1950. Neal farmed for many years in the La Farge area before retiring and returning to Cashton. Grandpa Neal will always be remembered for his love toward his children, music, and the outdoors.
He is survived by one step-son, James Malphy of Evansville, Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Malphy of Janesville, Wis.; two sons, LaVonne of Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Larry of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; one daughter, Sonya (Jack) Fowler of Sacramento, California; nine grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, four sisters, and one daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 10 at 1 p.m. at the Sandhill Bethany Lutheran Church. Pastor Gregory Geier will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Torkelson Funeral Chapel in Cashton on Monday, February 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on the day of services from 12 to 1 p.m.
Casper F. "Skip" Anderegg
Casper F. "Skip" Anderegg, 56, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, February 5, 1998 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
He was born on June 13, 1941 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Casper H. and Helen (Hoier) Anderegg.
He is survived by a daughter, Amy Anderegg of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Denver Anderegg of Onalaska, Wis., and Ryan Anderegg of Madison, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 1998 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Mark F. Bartling will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Barre, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Robert Byrne, Jr.
PARK CITY, Ill./ARCADIA, Wis. - Robert Byrne, Jr., 24, of Park City, Ill., died Friday, February 6, 1998 as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born August 19, 1973 in Fort Riley, Kan. to Robert and Sharon (Urbick) Byrne, Sr.
Robert served for three years in the U.S. Army Airborn and was a member of the Reserves. He was employed by the Motorola Co. of Libertyville, Ill.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Sharon (Urbick) Byrne, Sr. of Park City, Ill.; one sister, Christina Byrne of Park City, Ill.; two brothers, Timothy and Steven Byrne, both of Park City, Ill.; paternal grandmother, Lillian Byrne of Galesville, Wis.
Robert was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 1998 at Christ Lutheran Church in Arcadia, with Rev. Arthur Sharot officiating. Spring burial will be in the Glencoe Lutheran Cemetery, Arcadia.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Killian Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
