Carolyn Geneva Berg
WAUKESHA/BANGOR, Wis. - Carolyn Geneva Berg, 53, of Waukesha, formerly of Bangor, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, February 7, 1998 in the Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on June 9, 1944, in Tampa, Florida to Oscar G. and Della (Feak) Berg, both of Bangor. She married Homer Armagost on March 28, 1965 and they were later divorced.
Carolyn attended St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School in Bangor, Bangor High School and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
She taught music at Lincoln Junior High in La Crosse and Gale Ettrick High School.
She had a long history of involvement in the Wisconsin State Teacher's Union. She was the former president of the La Crosse Education Association. She was employed as a Government Relations Specialist in the Northeast Service area for the Wisconsin Education Association Council for 22 years.
She was a member of the state Democratic party, serving on the Administration Committee. She was elected to serve as a delegate to numerous state Democratic party conventions. She was also an elected delegate to several National Democratic Party conventions and was elected to serve on the National Democratic Committee.
She is survived by her mother, Della Berg of Bangor; a sister, Christine (Jim) Prucha of La Crosse; a grandmother, Darlene Feak of La Crosse; and aunts and uncles, Cynthia (John) Gaylord of Santa Monica, Calif., and Robert E. Feak of Ventura, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar G. Berg, an infant brother, David, and a sister, Syda J. Berg.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 1998 at the Fossum Funeral Home, Bangor. The Rev. Roy Hefti will officiate. Burial will be in the Burns Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Bangor on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Soceity or a charity of the donor's choice.

Beverly M. Stewart
Beverly M. Stewart, age 81, of La Crosse, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born March 5, 1916 in La Crosse to Edward and Minnie (Morley) Koops. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Elementary School, a member of the first graduating class of Aquinas High School, and graduated from La Crosse State Teacher's College (UW-L) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She taught in elementary schools in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, and during WW II she helped conduct remedial classes for soldiers in the U.S. Army. She married John Stewart in 1942. Together with her husband, she spent many years in Pittsburgh, Pa. Beverly enjoyed painting and was an accomplished pianist, accompanying the Variety Singers for several years. She also wrote children's stories, and founded the Jack and Jill Kindergarten in Pittsburgh. She wrote and directed a television program called ``Home is Happiness'' in 1949. She was a member of the La Crosse Area Jazz Society. She and her husband John traveled throughout the world.
She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Roxane (Peter) Gaal of Pittsburgh, and Sharon Blake, also of Pittsburgh; one son, Bruce (Tina) Stewart of Virginia Beach, Virg.; four grandchildren, Christopher and Corinna Gaal, and Braden and Elliot Blake. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Valerie; and a brother, Edward.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Marian Chapel of St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral. Rev. Robert Cook will officiate with entombment in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The Blaschke Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mark Brickl
DICKEYVILLE, Wis. - Mark Brickl, age 80, of Dickeyville, died Monday, February 2, 1998, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Vernon County.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 1998, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, with the Rev. Francis Steffen and Rev. Joseph Brickl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today, February 4, 1998, at the Casey Funeral Home in Cuba City, where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.
He was born on January 28, 1918 in Plain, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Rosanna (Meixelsperger) Brickl. He was married to Dorothy Feiner on November 15, 1938. Mr. Brickl graduated from the University of Wisconsin Dairy School and was a licensed cheesemaker for many years.
Community, church and family involvement were always a big part of his life. In earlier years he was active in Little League and Boy Scouts. At that time, Mark owned and operated the Platteville Lumber Co. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed peacock bass fishing on the Amazon River in Peru. He was also a big game hunter, most recently shooting a bull elk in New Mexico in the fall of 1997.
Throughout his career, he served as president of the Dickeyville Telephone Co.; Shady Homes, Inc.; and One-Hour Dry Cleaners in Platteville, Prairie du Chien, La Crosse and Onalaska. Mark was active in many organizations, including the Dickeyville Village Board; Holy Ghost Parish Council; Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; American Trapshooting Assoc.; S.W. Businessmen's Assoc.; Modern Woodmen of America; Wings Over Wisconsin; Ducks Unlimited; and Wisconsin Conservation Club.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Dickeyville; four daughters, Phyllis (Richard) Miletto of La Crosse, Carole (Jerome) Vaassen of East Dubuque, Ill., Alice (James) Timmerman of Eldridge, Iowa, and Betty (Tom) Kerkenbush of Platteville; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Joseph Brickl of Middleton, Al Brickl of Sauk City, and Francis (Irene) Brickl of Spring Green; and five sisters, Mary (John) Hetzel of Plain, Rose Dischler of Plain, Cecelia Mason of Reedsburg, Theresa (George) Wilson of Platteville, and Agnes Long of Menasha.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Gabriel in 1982; a grandson, Gary Timmerman in 1984; a son, Robert on August 26, 1997; two brothers; and one sister.

Ann L. Leuze
LA CRESCENT, Minn. - Ann L. Leuze, 86, of La Crescent, died at the home of her daughter, Mary Hetzel of La Crosse, on Sunday, February 1, 1998. She was born August 3, 1911, at Shephardville, Ky., to Harry F. and Ruth Hepke. She married Rudolph A. Leuze on September 1, 1930 at Seneca, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1984. She had been employed by the J.C. Penney Co. for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Jim) Hetzel of La Crosse; by a son, James (Mary Jo) Leuze of Twin Falls, Idaho; by six grandchildren, Pamela Wencel, Jeffrey Reece, Paula Kouba, Eric Leuze, Kurt Leuze and Kyle Leuze; and by 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1407 Main Street, La Crosse. The Reverend James T. Cumming officiated. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends called at the church Tuesday from noon until the services. The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes assisted with the arrangements.

Joshua Paul Skinner
BROWNSVILLEA, Minn. - Matthew 3:17- "This is my son, whom I love; and in whom I am pleased."
Joshua P. Skinner, 17, of Brownsville, Minn., died on Monday, February 2, 1998 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Caledonia, Minn. Joshua was born to Douglas and Lynn (Aleckson) Skinner on September 12, 1980 in Hayward, Wis. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church of Hayward, Wis., and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia on October 5, 1997. He attended Caledonia High School and was currently a member of the junior class. He worked at Schmidty's Restaurant in La Crosse. In Josh's younger years he played many sports and lettered in soccer at Caledonia High School. Josh was a silent, but strong, team player. He had a great love of the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking and golf with his family and vast array of friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Chris, and his sister Jenny, all of Brownsville; his paternal grandmother, Beverly Skinner of Minneapolis, Minn.; maternal grandparents, Bob and Ruby Aleckson of Paynesville, Minn.; aunts and uncles, Mike (Beth) Skinner, Pat (Peggy) Skinner, Chris (Mark) Childers, his godmother, Roger (Sue) Aleckson, Del (Sheryl) Aleckson and Dan Aleckson, his godfather; and cousins, Joe, Ann, Ian, Bree, Jake, Shane, Amanda, Jesse, Reuben, Lizzie, Heather, Brett, Reid and Luke. Josh was also blessed by many friends of all ages. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Skinner.
The following scripture verse was chosen by Josh for his Confirmation.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 1998 at the La Crescent United Methodist Church in La Crescent, Minn. The Rev. Mark B. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Evangelical Church Cemetery, Brownsville. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Josh's honor. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is in charge of arrangements.

Charles P. "Charlie" Christiano
Charles P. "Charlie" Christiano, 88, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, February 3, 1998 at the Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem.
He was born on November 29, 1909 in the town of Wells, rural Monroe County, to Tony and Mary (Mattuce) Christiano. He married Rosella A. Raabe on August 14, 1940 in Kendall, Wis. She preceded him in death on January 3, 1983.
Charlie worked as a shipwelder in the Duluth-Superior harbor for two years during World War II. He worked in auto sales in the La Crosse area for most of his life, working at Dahl Ford, George Devine Lincoln-Mercury, and Newburg Oldsmobile-Cadillac for several years, and was last employed at Bob Burg Oldsmobile-Cadillac for 23 years before retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, Charlie worked part time at Hegenbart Auto Sales until 1993.
Charlie was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse, where he had served both as president and treasurer. He also enjoyed his houseboat on the Mississippi River for many years before his health declined in 1993.
He is survived by a brother, John ``Jack'' (Phyllis) Christiano of Sparta, Wis.; one sister, Sarah (Harvey) Aney of Sparta; a niece, Ardell (Leo) Kennedy of Camp Douglas, Wis.; a brother-in-law, Edward Raabe of Wilton, Wis.; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 1998 at 11 a.m. from First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Rev. Roger Sachs will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah, Wis. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The family requests that memorials be given to First Ev. Lutheran Church.

John William Anderegg
MADISON, Wis. - John W. Anderegg, 74, died on Monday, February 2, 1998 in Madison. He was born November 12, 1923, at White Lake, Wisconsin, to John C. and Kathryn Anderegg. He attended White Lake High School, graduating in 1941. He served in the United States military from 1943 to 1946, and attained the rank of first lieutenant, while specializing in tropical meteorology. Mr. Anderegg obtained his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1947, and his Ph.D., in physics, in 1952. In 1953 he was named a Fulbright Scholar at the Royal Institution in London, England. He was a Visiting Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1968; and he retired in 1987, as professor emeritus in bio-physics, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He was a pioneer in small angle x-ray scattering and its application in bio-physics.
He is survived by his brother, Robert C. Anderegg of Fond du Lac; seven nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home, La Crosse. The Reverend Donald Fox will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Nature Conservancy of Wisconsin.
