Ralph T. Stone, Jr.
Ralph T. Stone, Jr., 49, of La Crosse, died at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Saturday, January 31, 1998, as the result of complications from diabetes. He was born May 25, 1948, in La Crosse, to Ralph and Alpha (Matl) Stone, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Alpha Stone of La Crosse and a brother, Ronald (Carolyn) Stone of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his father.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Reverend Joseph Rafacz will officiate. Burial will be in Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sletten-McKee-Hanson Funeral Home, 605 West Avenue South, on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Rose M. Boyle
Rose M. Boyle, 99, of La Crosse, died at the Hillview Health Care Center on Saturday, January 31, 1998. She was born August 31, 1898, in La Crosse. She married Eustace Boyle in 1927, and he preceded her in death in 1956. She had been employed as a nurses aid at the Hillview Home.
She is survived by two daughters, Rose (George) Sladky of Georgetown, Tex. and Katherine (Jim) Johnson of La Crosse; by a son, E.J. (Elizabeth) Boyle of Shoreview, Minn.; by a sister, Irene McMahan of La Crosse; by eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael, four sisters, a brother and a grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of the Hillview Health Care Center. The Reverend will officiate. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the service. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Hubert I. Kokott
ARCADIA, Wis. - Hubert I. Kokott, 85, died at his home Friday, January 30, 1998. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 3, 1998 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, rural Arcadia. Spring burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday at the Killian Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m., where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Rosary and also Tuesday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
LaVerne E. Sjuggerud
HOLMEN, Wis. - LaVerne E. Sjuggerud, 64, of Holmen, died Saturday, January 31, 1998 in his home. He was born in La Crosse on June 7, 1933 to Ernest and Lenora (Evenson) Sjuggerud. He married Jean Carpenter on October 29, 1977 in Holmen. She preceded him in death on October 4, 1997.
LaVerne is survived by two daughters, Jane (Randall) Thompson of Galesville; Kimberly Sjuggerud of Onalaska; two sons, Randy Sjuggerud of West Salem, and Ryan Sjuggerud of Holmen; three stepdaughters, Linda (Gerald) Sobotta of Holmen, Peggy Snodgrass of Mindoro, and Heidi (Randy) Lockington of Mindoro; three stepsons, Terry Davidson Jr. of Holmen, Randal (Stephanie) Davidson of Holmen, and Shawn Davidson Sr. of Onalaska; four sisters, Shirley (Jan) Olson of Phoenix, Ariz., Ann (Ken) Thompson of Onalaska, Mary (Doug) Dale of Onalaska, Sharon (Scott) Janes of Holmen; one brother, Floyd (Patsy) Sjuggerud of Kenosha, Wis.; 32 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews, and Simon the cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two stepdaughters, Lori Howe and Teresa Davidson, and one sister, Jacqueline McCurdy.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 5, 1998 at 1 p.m. at Holmen Lutheran Church. The Reverend Charles Evavold will officiate. Burial will be at Long Coulee Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 515 McHugh Road, Holmen, on Wednesday, February 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from noon until the service.
Ruby Larson Fradette
READSTOWN, Wis. - Ruby Larson Fradette, 53, of Readstown, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998 at her home.
She was born in Viroqua to Ludvig and Anna (Jacobson) Nelson. She married Roger Nelson on June 29, 1963. He passed away on Feb. 26, 1988. She married Dan Fradette on Aug. 19. 1990.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Kickapoo United Lutheran Church at Folsom. She lived in the Readstown and Soldiers Grove areas all her life. She was very active in Peace Lutheran Church in Readstown, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also very active in the Readstown/Town of Kickapoo Advancement Association. Her hobbies included music, gardening, and art and crafts. She worked throughout the community all her life.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother, Lawrence; and one sister, Doris Nelson.
She is survived by her husband, Dan, of Readstown; two sons, Rick of La Crosse, and Chad of Readstown; one stepson, Dan Fradette of DeSoto; two daughters, Shari (Bob) Von Ruden of Westby, and Lisa Larson of Readstown; two stepdaughters, Darci (Anthony) Pedretti of Genoa, and Jodi (Thomas) Garibaldi of Onalaska; four grandchildren (with one expected); six step-grandchildren (with one expected); two brothers, Marvin (Jean) Nelson of Viroqua, and Arnold Nelson of Viroqua; and three sisters, Margaret Simonson of Viroqua, Lucille (Daniel) Jacobson of Viroqua, and Aleda (LaVern) Sherry of Soldiers Grove.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998 at 1 p.m. in Peace Lutheran Church in Readstown. Pastor Aimee Quirin Wollman will officiate, and burial will be in the Readstown Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sime Funeral Home in Readstown on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday at the church from noon until time of services.
Michael John Subjek
Michael John Subjek, 55, of La Crosse, died Sunday, February 1, 1998 at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center after a 2 1/2 year battle with melanoma cancer. He was born in La Crosse on November 17, 1942 to Edward and Dorothy (Rybold) Subjek. He had attended Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1961. He married Kathleen Kantarik of Superior, Wis. on April 24, 1965 in Superior. Mike had worked for 30 years as a journeyman plumber with the Plumbers and Fitters Union Local #434 in La Crosse. He had worked for the past 15 years as a plumber at the G. Heilman Brewing Co. Mike was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, two daughters, Julie (Jeff) Richgels of La Crosse and Rebecca Subjek at home, one son Michael E. Subjek of La Crosse, a granddaughter Danielle Richgels and one brother, John (Kathy) Subjek of Holmen, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Entombment will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. A Prayer Service will be held Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mayo Clinic Melanoma Cancer Research Program or the Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School.
Roman Konkel
ARCADIA, Wis. - Roman Konkel, 84, of Arcadia, Wis., died Saturday, January 31, 1998 at the Grandview Care Center in Blair, Wis.
He was born August 9, 1913 in the Township of Glencoe, Buffalo County, Wis. to Anton and Julia (Galewski) Konkel. On May 5, 1948 he married Anna Lisowski at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, Wis.
Roman was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. In addition to farming, he had worked in Arcadia for the A.G. Cooperative as a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Konkel, Arcadia, Wis; one daughter, Julie (Michael) Klimek, Holmen, Wis.; five sons, Peter (Kathy) Konkel, and Tony (Mary Ann) Konkel, all of Independence, Wis.; Bob (Diane) Konkel, Frank (Carrie) Konkel, and Joe Konkel, all of Arcadia, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Roman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Edward Konkel; one sister in infancy, one sister, Adeline Giemza; and one grandchild, Corrine Konkel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, with Rev. Raymond Pedretti officiating. Spring burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Arcadia.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wozney Funeral Home, Arcadia, where there will be a 7 p.m. Rosary. Friends may also call from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Grandchildren serving as casketbearers will be: Jim Konkel, Steve Konkel, Barb Konkel Schank, Lisa Konkel, Greg Konkel, and Brian Konkel.
John W. Brueggeman
SPARTA, Wis. - John W. Brueggeman, 81, of Sparta, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 31, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse.
He was born on St. Mary's Ridge, Monroe County, Wis. on November 28, 1916, the son of William and Susan (Stolkes) Brueggeman. He married Lorraine Antony on April 27, 1940 in Sparta. He farmed on the family farm until 1934 and then in Lyons Valley for three years. He also farmed in Big Creek for 1 1/2 years. He hauled milk for Bob Christopherson for two years, and drove truck for La Crosse County for 5 1/2 years and drove for Overgaard Construction for 17 1/2 years. He retired in 1972.
On August 8, 1981 he was united in marriage to Belinde Severson Bowen. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Belinde on February 22, 1995; three sisters, Elizabeth Dwyer, Gertrude Cox, and Marie Peters; four brothers, Herman, Henry, Sylvester, and Frank Brueggeman.
He is survived by his first wife, Lorraine, Rockland, Wis.; five daughters, Theresa (Robert) Olson, Rockland, Wis.; Karen Garves, Vancouver, Wash.; Sue Asleson, La Crosse; Rita Larkin, Vegas, N.M.; Marilyn (Jerome) Schultz, Adams, Wis.; two sons, John (Simba) Brueggeman, Jr., Rockland, Wis.; Joseph Paul Brueggeman, Norwalk; two stepdaughters, Mary (LaVerne) Schmidt, Muscoda, Wis.; Nora (Willie) Rueckheim, Bangor, Wis.; one stepson, Robert Bowen, Sparta; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Peck, Sparta and Veronica (Donald) Schanhofer, Sparta.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, with Rev. Robert Hegenbarth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 to 9:45 a.m.
Lorraine E. Voshart
BROWNSVILLE, Minn. - Lorraine E. Voshart, 73, of Brownsville, Minn., died February 1, 1998 in Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center, La Crosse. She was born in Brownsville, Minn. on November 13, 1924 to John and Pearl (Geiwitz) Sauer. She married Earl Voshart on September 17, 1945. Lorraine was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, Brownsville Senior Citizens and a member of Zion Evangelical Church, all of Brownsville, Minn.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Mike) Ritter of Colorado Springs, Col. and Pam Voshart (Dennis Kruse) of Brownsville, Minn., two sons, Rodney Voshart of La Crescent, Minn. and Rick Voshart of Brownsville, Minn., seven grandchildren, Dan, Kris, and Angie Ritter, Connie and Shawn Colsch and Tim and John Voshart, one great-grandchild, Kyle Colsch. She is further survived by one sister-in-law, Bernadine Hartwig of Montello, Wis. and one brother-in-law, Eldon (Alberta) Voshart of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl on February 7, 1992, parents, and one brother, Dell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 at the Zion Evangelical Church in Brownsville, Minn. Pastor Philip C. Williams will officiate with burial in Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Church and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The Blaschke Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

LA CRESCENT, Minn. - Ann L. Leuze, 86, of La Crescent, died Sunday, February 1, 1998, at the home of her daughter.
