Victoria Kittleson
Victoria Kittleson, 88, of Chetek died Jan. 28 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home there.
Mrs. Kittleson was born March 30, 1909 in Richland Center to Enoch and Charlotte (Richardsen) Grey. She married Henry Kittleson on May 15, 1931 in Sand Creek. She had taught school in the Chetek, Sand Creek, Greenwood, Washington-Irving and Otterholt school districts for many years and did substitute teaching after she retired. Mrs. Kittleson lived in the Chetek area most of her life. She loved flowers, gardening, poetry and children's literature.
She is survived by one daughter, Mavis of Barron; two sons, Darrell of rural Amery, and Curt of Manitowoc; one brother, Clinton of Cameron; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1995; one son, Erwin, in 1989; and two grandsons, Gary and Lance Kittleson.
Agnes Kollath
Agnes K. Kollath, 95, of Rice Lake died Feb. 7 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home at Chetek.
Ms. Kollath was born May 29, 1902 to Karl and Helene (Oleson) Fossum in the Town of Doyle. She lived in the area, which her grandparents had pioneered, until 1924, when she moved to Chicago, Ill., and later to Bensenville, Ill. There she had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary and had worked at American Can Co. until she moved to Rice Lake in1966.
She is survived by two daughters, Arlene Christopherson of Sun City West, Ariz., and Barbara Reher of Cape Coral, Fla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Helland of Sun City, Ariz., and Inga Helland of Racine.
She was preceded in death by a son, George; and a grandson, Ron.
Richard Kurschinsky
Richard J. Kurschinsky, 73, of Rice Lake and formerly of Shell Lake, died Jan. 23 at his home.
Mr. Kurschinsky was born March 20, 1924 to John and Rachel (Moore) Kurschinsky at Menomonie. He moved to Rice Lake with his family, graduated from Rice Lake High School and served in WW II. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from UW-Stout, taught auto mechanics in vocational schools at Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point, and retired to the Shell Lake area. Mr. Kurschinsky was a member of the Shell Lake American Legion Post and the National Rifle Assn.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Kurshinsky of Cameron, Curtis Kurshinsky of Chippewa Falls, and Jon Kurshinsky of Eau Claire; two daughters, Sue Schwartz of Eau Claire and Carol Kallenbach of Hillsdale; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack of Rice Lake, and Tom Kurshinsky of Rockford; and a sister, Mary Stodola of Zephyr Hills, Fla.
Jon Larson
Jon W. Larson, 37, of Rice Lake died Jan. 25 from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident.
Mr. Larson was born Sept. 18, 1960 to Allyn "Bud" and Kathleen "Toots" (Schneider) Larson. He attended Rice Lake schools and graduated from the Rice Lake High School in 1979. He married Jennique Derousseau here on April 26, 1986 and had worked with his family in the Larson Oil Co. in Rice Lake until the present time. He was a member of the Bobcat Snowmobile Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jennique; two daughters, Jenna and Jenee, both of Rice Lake; his mother, Kathleen of Rice Lake; two brothers, Scott of Rice Lake and Kim of Chassell, Mich.; two sisters, Peggy Gill of Cumberland, and Mary Bangsberg of Long Lake; and his grandmother, Mabel Stroupe of Rice Lake.
Mr. Larson was preceded in death by his father in 1996.
William Lathrop
William John Lathrop, 78, of Rice Lake died Jan. 15 in Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Lathrop was born Nov. 19, 1919 in Rice Lake. He grew up here, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and earned the Bronze Star for his service with the Flying Tigers in the China/Burma/India theatre of WW II. He married Pearl Hopp and moved to Seattle. Mr. Lathrop operated a service station at Mercer Island, Wash., and later an automotive repair shop, Lathrop and Sons, in West Seattle.
His greatest passion was aviation, and he gave aerial tours to family and friends in his Piper Cherokee.
Mr. Lathrop is survived by his wife, Pearl; three sons, Jon, Patrick, and Arthur; a daughter, Bethany; two granddaughters; and a brother, Edward of Mercer Island.
Martin Leuthner
Martin J. Leuthner, 103, of Rice Lake died Feb. 2 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center.
Mr. Leuthner was born on Nov. 22, 1894 in a log cabin 5 miles southeast of Rice Lake to Conrado and Maria Leuthner. He received his education in the Whittier School and worked as a farmhand in the Rice Lake area until he purchased his own farm east of Rice Lake. In 1963 he purchased a dairy farm west of Rice Lake and operated it until he retired.
He married Margaret Bungartz in 1917 in Rice Lake. She died in 1961, and, in 1963, he married Myrtle Beylund in Rice Lake. He had been an avid deer hunter, was one of the original members of the Rice Lake senior citizens center, was on the crew that remodeled the old Stinn building into the senior citizens center and had enjoyed playing cards there. He had lived at the Convalescent Center since July 1992.
Mr. Leuthner is survived by two daughters, Millicent Larson of Vancouver, Wash., and Genevieve Zimmer of Rice Lake; three stepdaughters, Alice McCracken of Barron, Doris Enquist of Rice Lake, and Betty Whitlow of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Myrtle, in 1991.
Everett Lightner
Everett Lightner, 87, of Minong and formerly of Barron, died Jan. 26 at Community Nursing Home in Spooner.
Mr. Lightner was born July 24, 1910 at Barron to Melbourne and Grace (Woolridge) Lightner. He attended the Otterholt and Doritty Creek rural schools and graduated from Barron High School in 1931. He enlisted in the Army after graduation, served in Hawaii from 1931-1934, worked on federal projects in Greenland, Canada and Alaska in 1942 and served with the continental Army during WWII, with a year of occupation duty in Japan.
While Mr. Lightner was the mayor of Barron, from 1954-66, plans for a hospital in Barron were begun. He had served as commander of Brown-Selvig Post 212 and, since 1946, had held every office in the Post. He had served at various levels, including commander of the 10th District American Legion.
In 1958 he was Barron's outstanding citizen and was honored by the local VFW at its first Barron Loyalty Day observance. In 1965 he became the veterans service officer for Barron. Mr. Lightner also was active in ham radio, was a traffic handler for several years, and won many awards. He was a member of the Wild River's Radio Club and the River Rats.
Mr. Lightner is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Lloyd of Rice Lake; three stepchildren, four grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Corliss of Oconto; and a sister, Colleen of Wisconsin Rapids.
George Lievens
George W. Lievens, 59, of Rice Lake and formerly of Joliet, Ill., died Feb. 4 at his home.
Mr. Lievens was born on Nov. 9, 1938 at Joliet to William and Margaret (Lonka) Lievens and raised in Lockport, Ill. On Dec. 27, 1958, he married Dorothy Williams at Joliet. She died in 1995, and on Nov. 16, 1996 he married Charlotte Johnson of St. Croix Falls. Mr. Lievens was a member of the Rice Lake Elks Lodge and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two sons, Michael of Biloxi, Miss., and Matthew of Winston Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Mary Jane Wahl of Rice Lake, and Marie Knorr of Joliet; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Margaret Van de Vorde of Lemont, Ill.; two stepsons, Todd Johnson and Terry Johnson; two step-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel; and three sisters, Mary Ann Wojtowicz, Peggy Thomas, and Mary Therese Rayburn.
