TAYLOR, Wis. - Philip D. Halverson, 78, of Taylor, died Wednesday, January 28, 1998, at the Pine View Nursing Home, Black River Falls, where he had been a resident for three years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 1998, at the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church with burial in Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Taylor. Friends may call today from 5-8 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton and also one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Clara A. Alt
Clara A. Alt, 96, died on Thursday, January 29, 1998. Funeral arrangements, tentative for Monday, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, will be announced by the Dickinson Family Funeral Homes.
Hilmer C. Harris
VIOLA, Wis. - Hilmer C. Harris, age 82, of Viola, died Wednesday, January 28, 1998, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. He was born September 16, 1915, in Crawford County to Ora Harris. He served with the Army Infantry during World War II in Africa, Sicily, France, Germany, Austria and in Italy, where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. On January 1, 1945, he was united in marriage to Jennie Syverhus. They farmed in the Westby and Viola areas until 1965 when they moved to Viola. Hilmer was a school bus driver for Kickapoo Area Schools for many years. He was a member of the Hamilton-Harris American Legion Post 447 of Viola. He is survived by his wife, Jennie of Viola and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. in the Henthorn Memorial Center, Viola. The Rev. Kenneth Melby will officiate with burial in the Viola Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post. Friends may call at the Henthorn Memorial Center on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Larsons Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting the family.
Arthur Henry Johll
Arthur H. Johll, 95, died at the Hillview Health Care Center on Wednesday, January 28, 1998. He was born April 4, 1902, in Bagley, Wisconsin to John and Philomena Johll. He married Margaret Roberts on November 25, 1944.
He was a veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by La Crosse Footwear for over thirty-nine years. He was a member of the La Crosse Eagles Club and the R.E.A.C. He had also been involved in the north and southside senior citizens and had served as a volunteer for the nutrition programs for Sauber Manor.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Carol (Leo) Loomis of La Crosse; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Brothers of Dubuque, Iowa and Ann (Richard) Ackerman of Cassville, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Johll of Cuba City and Viola Johll of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma; two sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James the Less Catholic Church. The Reverend Mancin Mankowski will officiate and burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church. The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes are assisting the family with the arrangements.
Edgar L. "Andy" Andres
Edgar L. "Andy" Andres, 79, of La Crosse died on Thursday, January 29, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born in Portage, Wis. on September 2, 1918, to Earl and Esther (Christiansen) Andres. He married Vera M. Anderson in La Crosse on November 29, 1941. Andy had worked at the Trane Co. of La Crosse for 35 years and retired in 1984. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks Lodge 300 La Crosse and a member of the Trane 25 year Club. Andy loved to spend time in his garden and had a passion for golf that few could match.
In addition to his wife, Vera; he is survived by two sons, Richard (Barbara) of Alma, Wis. and Mark of Riverside, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Stamm of Falls Church, Va.; one brother, John (Dawn) of West Salem, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 1998, at 2 p.m. from the Asbury United Methodist Church, La Crosse. The Rev. Larry Moody will officiate. Entombment of his cremains will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum, Mormon Coulee Memorial Park at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Asbury United Methodist Church or the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center Cancer Research Department. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
Gregory M. Olson
Gregory M. Olson, 35, of Onalaska, died Saturday, January 24, 1998 in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in La Crosse on June 11, 1962 to Walfred M. and Sally L. (Arttus) Olson. He married Diane L. Christianson on April 16, 1983 in La Crosse.
Greg worked as an automotive mechanic in the La Crosse and Winona area, most recently at Brenengen Chevrolet in West Salem. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
Greg is survived by wife, Diane; by two daughters, Lindsay and Erin Olson of Onalaska; his parents, Walfred and Sally Olson of La Crosse; one sister, Lori (Randy) Lentz of Harvard, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 1998. from Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Rev. Rachel Thorson Mithelman will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Stanley R. Halama, 46, of rural Independence, died Saturday, Jan, 24, 1998, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with spring burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence. Wednesday evening there will be a rosary at the funeral home.

HATFIELD, Wis. - Shirley (Mrs. Dewey) Reinstra, 63, of Thunderbird Lane, Hatfield, and formerly of Sparta, died Sunday, January 25, 1998 in Pine View Nursing Home, Black River Falls.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 1998 from the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and burial will be in the Hatfield Cemetery.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Jane Hutchison, 91, of Prairie du Chien, Wis. died Saturday, January 24, 1998 in Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien, with Rev. Richard Strait officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Eastside Cemetery, Dodgeville, Wis. Frederick William Tetzlaff IV
Frederick William Tetzlaff IV, infant son of Frederick W. and Nadine (Melzer) Tetzlaff III of Onalaska, died Thursday, January 22, 1998 in Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center.
He is survived by his parents, paternal grandfather, Frederick and (Mary) Tetzlaff, Jr., of Onalaska, paternal grandmother Jean (Terry) Polyak of Hardford, Wis., maternal grandparents, Joseph and Theresa Melzer of Allenton, Wis., two aunts, Barbara Krome of La Crosse, Brenda Fox of Mindoro, uncle Jason Melzer of Allenton.
Private family funeral services will be held at Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Nelson-Woodruff-Blaschke Funeral Home. The Rev. Ted DeWald of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate and burial will be in Baby Land at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
