Wayne W. Broadfield
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Wayne W. Broadfield, 76, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Sunday, January 25, 1998 in Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at the Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien.

Eleanor E. George
Eleanor E. George, 68, a resident of Ping Manor in La Crosse, died at her home on Saturday, January 24, 1998.
She was born in Omro, Wis. on November 28, 1929 to Elmer and Mary Emma (Hueston) Woods. She married Raymond George on May 16, 1952 in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1990. She and her husband owned and operated the Rustic Inn in La Crosse for 37 years before retiring in 1985.
Eleanor was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in La Crosse and also the Women of the Moose.
Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Roxanne (Tom) Thiesen of La Crosse; one son, Raymond "Ray" (Sue) George, Jr. of La Crosse; three grandchildren, Robert Tooke, Nahmie George, and Anissa George; five sisters, Jean Lee, Maxine (Floyd) Sheely, Marjorie (Al, "Ray") Lubben, and Lauretta Hether, all of La Crosse, and Doris Martine of Chaseburg; two brothers, John (Jean) Woods of La Crosse and William (Judy) Woods of Atwater, Cal.; a special niece and nephew who gave so much of their time and energy to help and befriend Eleanor, Kathy and Duane Roesler of La Crosse; and many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. from Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Rev. John Wm. Klein will officiate. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on the family on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Harold Norman Hanson
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn./VIROQUA, Wis. - Harold Norman Hanson, 72, formerly of 3541 Minnehaha in Minneapolis, died on Sunday morning, January 25, 1998 in Hennepin County Hospital. He had been a resident of the Nile Health Care Center since April, 1996.
He was born on April 9, 1925 in Davis, S.D. to Hans and Amy (Strom) Hanson. His father was a pharmacist and his mother a nurse. During his childhood in the 1930's he vacationed with his mother, brother Charles, and sister Betty alternate years in Viroqua, Wis. and Minneapolis. Harold never married. He graduated from Washta (Iowa) High School in 1943 where he was active in sports. During World War II he saw considerable combat as a Radioman Third Class on the destroyer, USS WATTS (DD-567) in the Pacific Theater. He worked for various airlines in Rochester, Minn. and Washington D.C. From 1960 until his retirement he worked in theatre management in Minneapolis and St. Paul. He is survived by his brother, Charles, of Des Moines, Iowa, a special friend and caregiver, Kathy West, of Minneapolis, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Haburn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28th, 1998 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, Wis., with Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Henry N. Anderson Funeral Home at 3640 23rd St. S. in Minneapolis where there will be a service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call in Viroqua after 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Clarietta Strelow
Clarietta Strelow, age 85, of La Crosse, died in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, on Sunday, January 25, 1998. She was born in Dakota, Minnesota, on June 6, 1912, to John and Anna (Erickson) Peterson. She married Reinhold Strelow on May 25, 1957, and he preceded her in death. Clarietta was a member of the Sons of Norway, AARP, the Moose Lodge and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Prior to her retirement, she was the head bookkeeper at Doerflinger's in La Crosse for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Richard) Thill of La Crosse; five sons, Richard (Rose) Strelow of Trempealeau, Gerald (Sharon) Strelow of Rancho Cordova, California, William (Lola) Strelow of East Jordan, Utah, Daryl Strelow of Lampasas, Texas, and Diane (Julie) Strelow of La Crosse; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Peterson and Geneva ``Jenny'' Peterson; and two brothers, Ole Maynard Peterson and Joseph ``Joe'' Peterson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (420 West Ave. So.). The Reverend Duane Kamrath will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from noon until time of services. Memorials are requested for St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting with arrangements.

Golden Orilee Betts
LA FARGE, Wis. - Golden Orilee Betts, 78, of La Farge, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998 in her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Seland Funeral Home and burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, both in La Farge. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday, both at the funeral home.

Russell O. Bakkum
Russell O. Bakkum, 86, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully at the Hillview Health Care Center Sunday, January 25, 1998. He was born March 19, 1911, in La Crosse, to Olaf and Anna (Nonstad) Bakkum. He married Mae Netwal on February 17, 1933, in La Crosse. They had almost 65 years of married life together.
He was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for 34 years. He had been retired for 21 years and enjoyed every minute of it.
Russell loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, bowler, duck hunter, and archer, and a wonderful painter. His family has his trophies, medals and beautiful paintings as a remembrance.
He is survived by his wife, Mae; by one daughter, Shirley (Obbie) Merfeld; a son, Ronnie (Margaret) Bakkum; by four grandchildren, Cindy, Tom, Shelly and Mary; and two great-grandchildren, Billy and Loni. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street Chapel. The Reverend Michael Frandsen of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

Luana Gladys Utecht
LA CRESCENT, Minn. - Luana Gladys Utecht, 76, of La Crescent, Minn., died on Monday, January 26, 1998 in her home. She was born on September 27, 1921 in Viola, Minn., to Elmer ``Happy'' and Gladys (Stinson) Hill. Luana was married to Jerome Jorstad in 1941 in Hokah, Minn., and they later divorced. She married Richard ``Dick'' Utecht on October 19, 1953, in Ecueille, France. Luana was a member of Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent, and the Ex-POW's Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Dick; a daughter, Joyce Ann (Sam) Johnson of Orange, Calif.; four sons, Gene (Janice) Utecht of La Crescent, Michael (Paula) Utecht of Spring Grove, Minn., Roger Jorstad of Boise, Idaho, and Douglas (Diane) Jorstad of Onalaska; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Louise) Hill and Mark (Janice) Hill; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sharon Moore; and a brother, Richard Hill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 29, 1998, at noon in the Church of the Crucifixion, La Crescent. The Rev. Donald W. Grubisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Crucifixion Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.; and again on Thursday from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Celia A. Heilman
Celia A. Heilman, 87, a resident of the Lakeview Health Center, West Salem, died on Sunday, January 25, 1998 at the health center. She was born on January 23, 1911 in Sparta, Wis., to Frank and Elizabeth (Michaels) Heilman. Celia had worked at Gundersen Clinic and Skemp Clinic in La Crosse for many years.
Celia is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Madden of La Crosse and Mary Poehling of Ogden, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Heilman and Geraldine Heilman, both of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Julia Riddlestine and Florence Schreiner; and three brothers, Leonard, Leo and Frank.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Rafacz will officiate. Entombment will be in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum, Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to St. Thomas More Catholic Church or the charity of the donor's choice. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
Celia will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Margery R. Kramer
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Margery R. Kramer, 59, of West Salem, died Monday, January 26, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born March 7, 1938 in La Crosse to Vincent and Alvina (Zander) Peterson. On February 11, 1958, she married Fredrick Kramer at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ettrick. Margery owned and operated Tots-R-Love Day Care Center out of her home in West Salem. She was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in West Salem and the church's Altar Society.
Survivors include her husband, Fredrick; one son, Joseph Kramer of West Salem; one daughter, Kari (Kenneth) Warmack of Jacksonville, N.C.; one grandson, Brian Lee Warmack of Jacksonville, N.C.; her parents, Vincent and Alvina Peterson of Ettrick; one sister, Maureen (Patrick) Keaveny of Bloomington, Minn.; three brothers, Richard (Kathy) Peterson of Le Sueur, Minn., Thomas (Deb) Peterson of Pinckney, Mich., and Francis (Lauri) Peterson of Richfield, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 29 at 11 a.m. from St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 210 W. Hamlin St., West Salem. Father Bob Hegenbarth will officiate. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to the Religious Education Program at St. Leo's Catholic Church.

Henry J. Wieland
INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Henry J. Wieland, 94, formerly of rural Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998 in Franciscan Skemp Healthcare-Arcadia Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Wedmesday in the Edison Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Whitehall. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Wednesday, both at the funeral home.

Wayne E. Blumentritt
Wayne E. Blumentritt, 61, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born on Sept. 5, 1936 in La Crosse, Wis. He married Darline Gordon on April 5, 1980. They lived in the area until 1974, when they moved to Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Beth Mitchell of Onalaska; and a brother, Dean (Delpha) of Onalaska. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister. The body will be cremated.
