Lois L. Hansen
TOMAH, Wis. - Lois L. Hansen, age 93, of Tomah, died Thursday, January 22, 1998, at the Tomah Care Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 1998, at 3 p.m. at the Ninneman-Steele Funeral Home in Tomah. Burial will follow at the Camp Douglas Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at Ninneman-Steele Funeral Home.

LeRoy VanVoorhees
WARRENS, Wis. - LeRoy Van Voorhees, age 61, of Warrens died Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 25, 1998, 1 p.m. at the Living Stone Fellowship Church in Warrens. Friends may call from 12 noon until the time of services Sunday at the church. The Ninneman-Steele Funeral Home in Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pelchie E. Smieja
INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Pelchie E. Smieja, 89, of Independence, died Thursday, January 22, 1998, at the Grand View Care Center in Blair. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Spring burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence. Today there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harriette A. Smith
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Harriette A. Smith, 83, of West Salem, died Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem.
She was born May 29, 1914 in Kellogg, Minn. to Louis and Helen (Drapes) Sarb. She married Gerald Smith and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1958. Harriette was a member of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, West Salem.
Survivors include a son, David (fiancee Susan Simmons) of West Salem; three grandchildren, Steven (Tamera) Smith of West Salem, Susan Smith and Nicole Smith (fiancee Andrew Larson), both of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Rachael Smith of Minneapolis and Collin Smith of West Salem; and one brother, Elmer "Bud" Sarb of Port Orchard, Wash. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 24, 1998, at 11 a.m. from St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 210 W. Hamlin St., West Salem. Father Bob Hegenbarth will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Medford, Wis. There will be no visitation. Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem is in charge of arrangements.

Earl J. Wyburn
DESOTO, Wis. - Earl J. Wyburn, age 86, of DeSoto, died Thursday, January 22, 1998, in his home. He was born February 24, 1911, in Dubuque, Iowa to William and Amanda (Lowe) Wyburn. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Arnold on April 16, 1938. They lived in DeSoto all their married years. Earl worked for the WPA, did logging, trapping and was a commercial fisherman before his retirement. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; two daughters, Carol Snitker and Patsy (Milan) Kumlin, all of DeSoto; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 1998, at 2 p.m. in New Hope United Methodist Church in Redmound. Pastor Alice Richards will officiate with burial in the DeSoto Cemetery. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in DeSoto on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday after 1 p.m.

Janice M. Boyd
Janice Mary Boyd, 59, of 115 Stadium Drive, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 1998 in Blessing Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1938, in Viroqua, Wis., she was a daughter of Leslie and Dorothy Noggle Thompson.
Mrs. Boyd was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and a volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation and American Diabetes Association. She was employed as manager for the Site Service Station in Quincy and was formerly employed by the Western Illinois Council on Alcoholism and the Reading Center at Quincy University.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Anderson of Quincy and Judith Boyd of Fort Madison, Iowa; three sons, Jeffrey Boyd of Fort Madison, Robert Harwood of Quincy and Jason Boyd of Fowler; two brothers, Don Thompson of Studio City, Calif. and Jim Thompson of Phoenix; two sisters, Joyce Weise of Roseburg, Ore. and Mrs. Lyman (Bev) Pollock of Phoenix; and seven grandchildren, Rex Anderson, Olivia Wiemelt and Alex Boyd, all of Quincy, Josh, Justin and Matthew Boyd, all of Fowler and Ale Roberts of Fort Madison.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by two sisters, Pat Coda and Doris Thompson.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Bishop David Moore. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Monday in the church. Memorials may be made to the Janice Boyd Memorial Fund. Zehender-Robinson-Stormer-Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle M. Johnson
Myrtle M. Johnson, age 93, of La Crosse passed away Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at the home of her sister, Lydia (Ernest) Tande.
She was born in Coon Valley, Wis. on March 29, 1904, the second of three children born to Melvin and Clara (Theige) Dahlen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. She graduated from Central High School, La Crosse and was a Home Economics graduate of Stout Institute, Menominee, Wis.
After teaching two years, she took graduate course in dietetics at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Ill. and served as a hospital dietitian in Racine, Wis., Chicago, Ill. and Pasadena, Calif. until her retirement.
She married Bennett E. Johnson on August 8, 1936, in Racine. He preceded her in death in 1961. In addition to Bennett, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Otis (Alice) Dahlen and a niece, NanJean Preeshl.
In addition to her sister, Lydia, she is survived by three nephews, Philip (Eunice) Dahlen, Paul and David Tande; by her grandnieces and nephews, Sara and Karissa Tande, Jason and Jessica Tande, Richard, Ronald and Robert Preeshl, Patricia (Tom) Rucker, Penelope (Curt) Hickock and Pamela (Gordon) Gerke.
After her retirement, Myrtle traveled extensively and visited all seven continents. She became a member of California Norrona Lodge Sons of Norway, serving in almost all of the offices. Upon her return to La Crosse in 1971, she became a member of Wergeland Lodge #28 and was financial secretary for several years. She received her life membership from the lodge. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, La Crosse.
There will be no services. She will be cremated and her ashes will be buried in the Coon Valley Cemetery at a later date. The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements.

Helen M. Kline
Helen M. Kline, age 72, of La Crosse, died Thursday, January 22, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
She was born January 2, 1926, in La Crosse to Francis and Margaret (Merfeld) Keaveny and graduated from Aquinas High School. Helen married Richard P. "Dick" Kline on January 22, 1946, in La Crosse, he preceded her in death on July 26, 1993.
Helen worked in the men's department of K-Mart in La Crosse from 1962 until her retirement. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was active in the Ministry of Praise at the parish. Helen especially enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Ronald) Ragner and Theresa (Douglas) Groth, both of La Crosse; two sons, Patrick (Sue) Kline of Holmen and Dennis (Laurie) Kline of West Salem; ten grandchildren, Kari, Kathy, Michael, Matthew, Mark, Andrew, Timothy, Sarah, Abby and Justin; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jeremy; four step grandchildren, Rick, Keri, Stephie and Lindsay; a brother, Francis (Pat) Keaveny of La Crosse; five nieces and one nephew. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jimmy; and a sister, Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 26, 1998, at 11 a.m. Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Lawrence B. Berger officiating. Burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from noon until 3 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 1 p.m.

Robert L. Marx
Robert L. Marx, 69, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, January 22, 1998, at his home.
He was born on December 9, 1928, in Winona, Minn., to Robert and Helen (Nowicki) Marx. Bob married Mary Homstad on November 22, 1955, in La Crosse. A Veteran of the Korean War, he served in both the Army and Air Force. He held lifetime memberships in the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, Thomas Rooney Post 1530 Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12 of La Crosse. For many years he had worked as a chef at Maple Grove Country Club in West Salem, Walt's Supper Club, La Crosse and at the La Crosse Country Club. He retired in 1995.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by a daughter, Helen Marx of La Crosse; two sons, James of La Crosse and Robert of Marietta, Ga.; and a sister, Mary Jane Marx of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice Gill; and a brother, Virgil Marx.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 1998, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Chaplain Dean Staffanson will officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Burial, with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post 1530, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Lutheran Hospital Foundation.

Clifford E. Evenson
WHITEHALL, Wis. - Clifford E. Evenson, 72, of rural Whitehall, Wis., died on Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, in the Trempealeau County Health Care Center, rural Whitehall.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Whitehall, with burial in the Old Whitehall Cemetery, rural Whitehall.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home, Whitehall; and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
