Kenneth R. Zimmerman
Kenneth R. Zimmerman, R.Ph., 74, formerly of Sun Prairie, died January 19, 1998.
He was born in Norwalk, Wisconsin, May 3, 1923, he is the son of the late Raymond and Whilmina (Vieth) Zimmerman. Throughout his life Ken lived in Norwalk, Wilton and Sparta. He graduated from Sparta High School in May of 1941. Ken served in the U.S. Navy beginning in December of 1942 and was discharged in December of 1945. He married the former Charlotte I. Bjorkman in Sparta, Wisconsin on Jan. 26, 1943 and she preceded him in death July 8, 1995. Ken attended the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy and graduated in January of 1949. He started his career in Beloit, owned a pharmacy in Sparta, continued his career in Sun Prairie and retired from Walgreens in Menominee Falls in 1987. Ken ultimately retired in Sun Prairie. He was a member of the Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Association, and Lifetime Member of the Sparta Junior Chamber of Commerce. As a UW-Madison alumni Ken loved the badger sporting program and was an avid golfer. Ken's great joy was his wife and his family.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Zimmerman of Appleton, Don and Cindy Zimmerman of Green Bay, Jim and Bev Zimmerman of Sun Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Zimmerman and Greg Doyle of Sun Prairie; 12 grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Charlotte.
Friends may call at United Methodist Church, 702 North Street, Sun Prairie, Wis., January 31, 1998 at 2 p.m. for a memorial service with the Rev. Dr. Ross Oestreich officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Malcore Funeral Home, Green Bay, (920) 432-5579.
In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy a memorial fund has been established at the service for the Green Bay Unity Hospice Program.

Marilyn A. Wittenberg
Marilyn A. Wittenberg, 75, of La Crosse, died at her home Sunday, January 18, 1998. She was born December 27, 1922, in La Crosse, to Robert E. and Leona (Lee) Moore. She married James J. Wittenberg on January 13, 1943, at Tampa, Fla. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1979. She graduated from Logan High School in 1941. She had been employed at Birnbaum's and later Skogen's grocery store on the northside for 37 years prior to her retirement in 1991. She had been a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, James R. Wittenberg and his friend, Cheryl Amsrud of La Crosse and John (Carol) Wittenberg, of West Salem; by a sister, Beverly "Betty" (Robert) Seitz, of La Crosse; by two grandchildren, Jenny (Troy) White and Benjamin Wittenberg; and by her fiance, Robert J. Goschke. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Staff Sergeant Robert V. Moore.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Reverend Ted Dewald will officiate. Burial, following cremation, will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service. The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting with the arrangements.

Mary Dina (Ellingson) DuBois
Mary Dina (Ellingson) DuBois, 43, died Saturday, January 17, 1998 at University Hospital, Madison, Wis., of complications following a heart transplant two years ago. She was a 1972 graduate of Central High School, La Crosse.
She is survived by her parents, Don and Nancy Ellingson; one sister, Laurie (Eric) Schindler; a brother, Thomas (Kay) Ellingson; a grandmother, Luella Hohl; four nephews; and one niece.
Funeral services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 1998. Burial, following cremation, will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, Wis. Memorials will be given to the American Heart Association.

Ruby L. Seppo (Helgerson)
CHICAGO, Ill. - Ruby L. Seppo (Helgerson), 75, of Chicago, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998 at the Sheridan Health Care Center, Zion, Ill. She was born Oct. 10, 1922 in Mount Sterling, Wis., one of twin daughters, to Oliver and Julia Helgerson. Ruby and her sister, Ruth, began harmonizing at the age of five on the ``Kiddie Hour'' at WKBH in La Crosse. Through their childhood they sang and played with Jack Martin's ``Uncle Josh Barn Dance Troupe,'' which performed around the Coulee Region.
Upon graduation from Central High School, Ruby and her sister Ruth sang and danced with various touring groups. They auditioned for and were accepted to sing and play their guitars with ``The Renfro Valley Folk,'' heard on station WHAS in Louisville, Ky. In the years spent there, they became featured performers known as ``The Travers Twins.'' On their many tours throughout the South and East, they crossed paths with many entertainers who went on to become big names in country music.
Ruby spent most of her life involved in work for her church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paavo. She is survived by her sister, Ruth of Chicago; two brothers, Orville of La Crosse and Orlando of La Crescent, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Benson and Park Funeral Home, Chicago, on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Rev. Ray Maldonado officiated. Burial was in Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago.

Charles E. Hendrick Jr.
WINONA, Minn. - Charles E. Hendrick Jr., 52, of 314 Mankato Ave., Winona, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 at his home. He was born in Hampton, Va., on Feb. 27, 1945 to Charles E. and Elizabeth J. Harter Hendrick.
He married Kathleen R. Raseman in La Crosse, Wis., on Oct. 26, 1968. Charles had been employed in the maintenance department of Fleming Foods of La Crosse, formerly Gateway Foods. He earned a B.A. degree in 1980 from Winona State University and is a member of First Baptist Church of Winona. He served eight years in the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Winona; one son, Kelly C. Hendrick of Winona; two daughters, Heather (Patrick) Kelley of Red Wing, Minn., and Colleen Hendrick of Winona; one granddaughter, Soibhan Kelley; his mother, Elizabeth Hendrick of La Crosse; two brothers, Clifford and Calvin (Joan) Hendrick, both of La Crosse; and two foster sisters, Susan Mengel and Gale Kinderman, both of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Winona. Rev. William Shermer will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. A memorial is being arranged. The Fawcett Funeral Home, Winona, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Laura I. Guehlstorf
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Laura I. Guehlstorf, 92, of Black River Falls, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 in Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls, where she had been a resident since 1995. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Torgerson's Funeral Chapel, Black River Falls. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Milwaukee. Friends may call from noon until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Richard `Dick' Larson
WESTBY, Wis. - Richard "Dick" Larson, age 64, of R.2, Box 40, Seas Branch Road, rural Westby, died on Sunday evening, January 18, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, after complications of kidney disease and diabetes. He was born on December 3, 1933 in Richland Center to Sigert and Hattie (Johnson) Larson. On April 23, 1955 he married Barbara Phillips at the Methodist Parsonage in Viroqua. He farmed, was in construction, and worked as a mechanic. He had worked for Sloane Foods and as a patrolman for the town of Viroqua prior to retiring due to disability. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and especially his grandchildren. He was well-known for Dick's beans. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four children, Dennis (Barb) Larson of Winterpark, Fla., Laura (Karl) Lavold and Lisa (Randy) Pederson, all of Viroqua, and Benjamin "Ben" Larson of the Marshall Islands; seven grandchildren, Craig, Travis and Timmy Larson of Winterpark, Fla., Missi, Mandi and Tina Lavold and Morgan Pederson, all of Viroqua; two adopted grandchildren, Alex Roth and Matthew Skaaland; a special great-niece, Sheena Burkum; three special brothers, Sigert (June) Larson Jr., Art (Carol) Larson and Terry (Karen) Larson, all of Westby; a special sister, Margaret Inman of Westby; two special aunts, Mary Johnson of Janesville and Freda (Stan) Baltes of Middleton, Wis.; and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, with Pastor Hubert Groves and Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery, rural Westby. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Thorson Funeral Home, where there will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. Friends may also call after 8 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ernest F. Dobbs
VIROQUA/READSTOWN, Wis. - Ernest F. Dobbs, 90, of Viroqua and formerly of Readstown, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 at the Bethel Home, Viroqua. He was born in Richland County on Sept. 14, 1907 to Clyde and Addie (Alderman) Dobbs.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the African and Italian theatres; and had been a member of McCormick Rose American Legion Post #308, Gays Mills. He farmed and did a lot of carpenter work in Richland and Vernon counties; and was an avid coon hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Delia of Viroqua; by five stepchildren, Vic (Dollie) Coleman of Gays Mills, Darleen Johnston and Richard Skolas of Gays Mills, Richard (Lois) Coleman and Larry (Janet) Coleman, all of Readstown, and Darold (Bonnie) Coleman of Soldiers Grove, Wis.; 23 step-grandchildren; 34 stepgreat-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren; by his sister, Bernice Ray of Richland Center, Wis.; and two brothers, Leon Dobbs of Rockford, Ill., and Earl (Eleanor) Dobbs of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lola May Dobbs; three brothers, Darold, Keith and Robert; one sister, Edna; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998 at the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills. Chaplain Kenneth Melby of the Bethel Home will officiate. Burial, with graveside military services provided by McCormick Rose American Legion Post #308, will be in the Gays Mills Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service; and at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Charles R. Nichols
SPARTA, Wis. - Charles R. Nichols, 84, of Colorado and formerly of Sparta, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998 in Colorado. Graveside funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sparta, with burial to follow. The Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta, is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Almyra Gaustad
SPRING GROVE, Minn. - Irene Almyra Gaustad, 77, of Sunny Valley, Ore., and formerly of Spring Grove, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Faith Lutheran Church at Blackhammer, rural Spring Grove. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Roble Funeral Home, Spring Grove; and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
