Walter Mitchell
Walter A. Mitchell, 85, of Birchwood died Jan. 20 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center.
Mr. Mitchell was born March 18, 1912 to Harry and Pansy Mitchell at Wilkensburg, Pa. His parents moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he grew up, graduated from West High School in 1932, and went to work for his father in the Mitchell Battery Co. On June 6, 1938, he married Virginia Beyer in Minneapolis. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of WW II and was discharged in 1946. He returned to work at the Mitchell Battery Co. in Minneapolis and later moved to Milltown, where the couple owned a theater. After a move to Menomonie, Mr. Mitchell worked for Menomonie Aluminum until employment at UW-Stout in 1967, where he was in charge of ordering for the school stores. He retired in 1978 and in 1980 moved to Birchwood, where he resided until entering the Rice Lake Convalescent Center. He was a member of the VFW Post in Menomonie, a member of the Birchwood American Legion and loved to hunt and fish.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by a son, Scott of Birchwood; and a close friend, Ervin Engelbrecht of Birchwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, in 1978.
Alice Nelson
Alice L. Nelson, 90, of Rice Lake died Jan. 18 at Heritage Manor here.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Barron on Aug. 14, 1907 to Oscar and Louisa (Reid) Bergeson. She married Ivar Nelson on April 17, 1937 in the Town of Stanfold, where they then farmed for many years. She was past secretary of the Lutheran Church Women.
She is survived by two daughters, Louise Leikness of Stoughton, and Ruth Cain of Navarre, Fla.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Ivar, in 1997.
Herbert Nelson
Herbert L. Nelson, 74, of Rice Lake died Feb. 3 at Lakeview Medical Center here.
Mr. Nelson was born Dec. 15, 1923 to Nels and Gunda Nelson in the Town of Stanfold, where he grew up and attended Columbia School. He married Naomi Albrecht on June 3, 1947 in Forest Junction. As a young man he did electrical wiring and installed furnaces. He worked for Randall Supply in Rice Lake and in 1950 began work for Mally's Plumbing here. In 1978 he went into partnership and bought Mally's Plumbing and continued in the plumbing business until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Nelson had been a member of the Rice Lake Golden K Club, and enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, and antique collecting.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; two sons, Gary of Lafayette, La., and Danny of Rice Lake; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Boettcher of Rice Lake and Elizabeth Olsvig of Cameron.
Helen Neuenfeldt
Helen Marie Neuenfeldt, 87, of Turtle Lake died Jan. 26 at Barron Riverside Manor.
Mrs. Neuenfeldt was born on Sept. 18, 1910 in Irvington, Iowa, to John and Ida (Hocamp) Grafing. She married August Neuenfeldt in Turtle Lake on Nov. 24, 1928.
She is survived by a son, Donald of Turtle Lake; a granddaughter, also of Turtle Lake; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard of Turtle Lake; and three sisters, Pearl Hoffman of Turtle Lake, Eva Heppner of Almena, and Ella Fenske of Rice Lake.
Mrs. Neuenfeldt was preceded in death by her husband, August, on Nov. 14, 1984.
Eleanor Olson
Eleanor L. Olson, 80, of Rice Lake, and formerly of Cameron, died Feb. 9 at Heritage Manor in Rice Lake.

Howard Parker
Howard "Joe" Parker, 53, of Rice Lake died Feb. 3 at Lakeview Medical Center here.
Mr. Parker was born July 12, 1944 to Mildred and Howard Parker Sr. He moved with his family to the Sarona-Shell Lake area, where he grew up and received his education. He worked at a variety of jobs until he became disabled.
Mr. Parker is survived by one sister, Sandra Tripp, of Rice Lake.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wendy Stauffer, in 1990.
Carrie Priewe
Carrie L. Priewe, 74, of Birchwood died Feb. 1 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center in Rice Lake.
Mrs. Priewe was born on Sept. 7, 1923 to Henry and Ratie Moore in Gladstone, Mich., where she grew up. She graduated from Gladstone High School in 1943 and moved to Racine, where she worked in a plant that manufactured airplane parts used in the war effort. When the war ended, she worked as a waitress and on October 1962 married Wilbert George Priewe in Miami, Okla. and became a homemaker. In 1993 the couple moved to Birchwood.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert; and a son, Michael Larrabee of Birchwood.
Dawn Marie Purcell
Dawn Marie Purcell, 39, of Rice Lake died Jan. 23 at Lakeview Medical Center.
Mrs. Purcell was born Aug. 31, 1958 in Los Angeles County, Calif., to Allen and JoAnne Winistorfer. She grew up, received her education and worked at various jobs there, and on Aug. 9, 1980 married Bobby Purcell Sr. in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple lived in California, where Mrs. Purcell was a homemaker. In 1986 they moved to Rice Lake, where she worked at the Super 8 Motel and at the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake until 1995.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby; three daughters, Gloria Rodriguez of Missouri, Branda Steiner of Janesville, and Rendy of Rockford, Ill.; four sons, Ken of Butte, Mont., Bobby Jr., Darald, and Mike Chisshire, all of Rice Lake; 15 grandchildren; her father, Allen of California.; three sisters, Candy Dennis of Missouri, Vivian Torkelson of Minnesota, and Priscilla Ward of California; a brother, David of Phillips; and close friend Bridgette Haile of Rice Lake.
Mrs. Purcell was preceded in death by two sons.
