Sister Virgine Schladweiler, FSPA
Sister Virgine Schladweiler, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 83, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse.
Sister Virgine was born to Joseph and Anna (Alber) Schladweiler on Dec. 23, 1914, at Plum City, Wis. She entered St. Rose Convent on Aug. 7, 1932. Ministering as a homemaker, she served for 48 years as a housekeeper and seamstress in parish convents in Cazenovia, Colby, Durand, Eau Claire, Genoa, Halder, Lima, Lyndon Station, Plum City and St. Joseph Home in La Crosse, Wis. She retired to St. Rose Convent in 1983, and to the Villa in 1998.
Sister Virgine is survived by her Franciscan Community; two sisters, Mrs. Marcella Parish of Durand, Wis., and Fort Collins, Colo., and Mr. and Mrs. Harris (LaVerl) Johnson of Mesa, Ariz., and Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Schladweiler of Menomonie, Wis., and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, when the body will be met at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7:15 p.m. Reverend John L. Parr, Diocese of La crosse, Office of Ministries, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial in Mary of the Angels Chapel, St. Rose convent, on Friday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse. Memorials may be sent to Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 912 Market Street, La Crosse, Wis. 54601-8800. The Blaschke Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.

Allan `Al' D. Kateley
BLOOMINGTON - Allan ``Al'' D., age 70 of Bloomington, died on Aug. 10, 1998. He was born on Dec. 26, 1927 to Russell and Winefred Kateley in Sparta, Wis. Formerly of La Crosse, Wis.
Preceded in death by parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Survived by wife, Joanne, son David of Oklahoma; daughter, Diane Carter and husband, Kevin of Minneapolis; sister-in-law Martha Hermanson of La Crosse, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside service on Friday, 1 p.m. at the Catholic Cemetery of La Crosse, Wis. Visitation on Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel, 6527 Portland Avenue, Richfield, Minn. In lieu of flowers memorials to the American Heart Association.

Mildred Catherine Mason
VIROQUA, Wis. - Mildred Catherine Mason, 87, of Viroqua, died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, 1998, at the Bethel Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since March 4, 1998. She was born in Vernon County on May 28, 1911, to Frithjof and Magda (Lokken) Fredrickson. On June 25, 1930, she married Thomas A. Mason in Viroqua. They farmed for several years prior to moving into Viroqua. She had worked as a clerk at Skundberg's Grocery in Westby, and at Cass Grocery and Northside Grocery in Viroqua. She was a member of the Viroqua Church of Christ, where she had taught Sunday school for over 25 years. She and her husband had served as sextons at the old Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the Friendly Neighbors Homemakers.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; three daughters, Gloria Knapp of Denver, Iowa, and Mary (Arden) Thompson and Barbara (Gene) Anderson, both of Viroqua; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eula Bolen and Freda Vance, both of Viroqua, and Irene (Virgil) Radloff of Apache Junction, Ariz.; four brothers, Daniel (Margaret) Fredrickson and Floyd Fredrickson, both of Viroqua, and Kenneth (Erma) Fredrickson and William (Beverly) Fredrickson, both of Waunakee, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Herman (Velma) Mason of Sparta; one sister-in-law, Elsie Sisbach of Westby; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Eugene Mason; one grandson, Michael Lee Thompson; and one great-granddaughter, Melissa Thompson Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at the Viroqua Church of Christ, with Pastor Ron Ahlgren officiating. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, where a prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from noon until time of service.

Ralph Joseph "Joe" Haney
GALESVILLE, Wis. - Ralph Joseph "Joe" Haney, 49, of Galesville, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born Oct. 12, 1948, in Platteville, Wis., to Garfield and Helen (Robinson) Haney. Joe served in the U.S. Army, doing two tours of duty in Viet Nam. On July 3, 1986, he married Bonnie L. James in Galesville. For the past 19 years he was employed in La Crosse at Trane Company. Joe loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors are his wife of Galesville; three daughters, Jodi (Robert) Apodaca of Columbus, N.M., Tyra Blank and her friend Darrell Olson of Galesville, Lonnie (David) Bryant of T. or C. N.M.; a son, Robert Joseph (Susan) Grieve of Plymouth, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Helen Mahlum of Galesville; and three brothers, William Haney of La Crosse, and Jim Haney and Ace Haney, both of Galesville. A sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville, with Rev. Arnold Flater officiating. Burial will be later in Buffalo City Cemetery, Buffalo City, Wis.
Friends may call at the Smith Mortuary, Galesville, today from 6 to 9 p.m., and Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until services.

Dorothy A. Stromstad
DE SOTO, Wis - Dorothy A. Stromstad, 83, of De Soto, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, in Bethany St. Joseph Health Care Center, La Crosse. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Larson Funeral Home, De Soto.

Lucille (Sidie) Athnos
VIROQUA, Wis. - Lucille (Sidie) Athnos, 66, of Viroqua, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, in the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Westby. Burial will be in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, and after 10 a.m. Saturday, both at the funeral home.

James W. "Digger" Dagendesh
LA CRESCENT, Minn. - James W. "Digger" Dagendesh, 64, of rural La Crescent, Minn., died, following a long battle with cancer, on Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born on Sept. 25, 1933, in La Crosse, to Joseph and Helen (Juan) Dagendesh. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1957, and married Janet Terpstra on July 18, 1959, in La Crosse. He worked for the G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse for 44 years and retired in 1995. He was a member of Brewery Workers Local 1081 IBT, La Crosse. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (David) Walter of La Crescent; two sons, Jeffrey (Lori) of La Crosse and Joel (Molly) of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Adam, Melissa, John and Kayla Dagendesh. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Robert Juan.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 1998, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hokah, Minn. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Gary Snoeyenbos
ARCADIA, Wis. - Gary Snoeyenbos, 51, of Arcadia, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Wozney Funeral Home Chapel, Arcadia. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Gary's family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to the Arcadia Public Library or to the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare/ Arcadia Campus.

Elvera I. Rentz
ROCKLAND, Wis. - Elvera I. Rentz, 80, of Rockland, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, 1998, at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Sparta.
She is survived by her husband, Hugo; three daughters, Anna (David) Janusheske of Angelo, Wilma (Marvin) Hesse of Bangor, and Alice Horstman of Bangor; three sons, William (Shirley) Rentz of Angelo, Walter (Marcia) Rentz of Rockland and Allen (Vicky) Rentz of Bangor; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Luther Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Burns Cemetery, Bangor.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
