ST. PAUL, Minn. - John Francis Keenan, 75, of St. Paul, formerly of La Crosse, Wis., died suddenly on Thursday, July 16, 1998.
Survived by wife, Jacqueline; brother, Joe Keenan of La Crosse; sons, Gary and David; daughters, Sandy, Linda, Diana and Denise; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral service 1 p.m. Monday at Olivet United Methodist Church, Armstrong Ave. and View St. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Kessler and Maguire Funeral Home, 640 W. Seventh St., St. Paul, Minn.
Raymond F. Kane MSgt. Ret. USAF
NEW LISBON, Wis. - Raymond F. Kane MSgt. Ret. USAF, 64, of rural New Lisbon, died on Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at his home after a battle with cancer. He was the son of William and Hazel (Mindham) Kane and was born Dec. 29, 1933, in Davenport, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Agnes Robison on May 29, 1976, in New Lisbon. Ray served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1971, serving in Thailand, France, Germany and Korea. After the military he enjoyed driving truck and farming along with feeding deer and turkeys and birds at his home. Ray was a member of New Lisbon American Legion Post 110, St. Paul's Catholic Church and of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Johnnie) of New Lisbon; a son, Jim (Terri) of North Ogden, Utah; step-children, Sandy (Bruce) Schulz of Waterford, Wis., Patricia (Mike) Southworth of New Lisbon, Ed (Jennifer) Robison of New Lisbon; a brother, Kenneth (Viola) of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; by five sisters, Florence Folbrecht of Stoughton, Wis., Mary Sabin of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Helen (Bob) Portratze of Stoughton, Wis., Ruth (Pat) Ertel of Glenhaven, Wis. and Rose Mason of Verona, Wis.; brother-in-law, Bruce Johnson of Stoughton, Wis.; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Paul; and two sisters, Lucille Kane and Alice Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in New Lisbon with Fr. Steven Bauers and Fr. Arnold Reuter. Burial with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 110 will be in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon on Sunday, July 19, 1998, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a vigil services at 7:30 p.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. - William A. Zimmer, 62, Green Bay, died Thursday morning, July 16, 1998, at a local nursing home.
Survived by wife, Janet; 11 children and spouses, Debbie Peters and special friend Butch of Green Bay, Diane and Tom Kroll of Green Bay, Donna and Bernie Havlovick of Stevens Point, Danita and Paul Deppe of Tucson, Ariz., Richard Schmidt of Green Bay, Lisa Coppersmith and special friend Brad Kutska of Green Bay, Carl Zimmer, William Zimmer, Jr., Mary, Lucy and Sara; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and spouse, Joe and Rose Zimmer of La Crosse; one sister and spouse, Carolyn and Floyd Newman of La Crosse.

Jeremy Jaye Diercks
SPARTA, Wis. - Jeremy Jaye Diercks, 23, of Westby, and formerly of Sparta, died as the result of an automobile accident, Tuesday, July 14, 1998. He was born July 6, 1975, in Wisconsin Rapids to Dennis Diercks and Marlene Kath.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Dennis (Jodie) Diercks; mother, Marlene Kath; six brothers, Joshua, Trevor, Justin, Torrence, Kasey, Caleb; grandparents, Eugene (Wahnita) Diercks and Walda Kath and Margaret Dietz; paternal aunts and uncles, Barb (Pete) Bushmaker and their children, Ryan and Korie, Karen Hildebrandt and children Brandis, Noah and Walker; maternal aunts and uncles, Georgia, Verna, Alvin, Russell, Dale and Angie. He will also be missed by his special companion Samantha LaPage. He was preceded in death by one brother, Travis Patrick and one nephew, Tanner Patrick Diercks.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 19, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta. Pastor Ronald Knapp will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home in Sparta on Saturday, July 18, 1998, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Vernon A. Walters
ONALASKA, Wis./BARRE MILLS, Wis. - Vernon A. Walters, 91, of Onalaska, formerly of Barre Mills, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born Dec. 27, 1906, in Barre Mills to John and Elmira (Bruemmer) Walters. On Aug. 23, 1933, he married Allaura Fryseth in Barre Mills and they have spent nearly 65 happy years together. Vernon farmed almost all of his life in Barre Mills, where he was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. His family was his greatest joy and treasure.
Survivors include his wife, Allaura; three sons, Richard (Patricia) of La Crosse, Reuben of Onalaska and Daniel of Holmen; two daughters, Sandra Holt of Apple Valley, Minn. and Caroline (Harlan) Hein of Onalaska; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Vernon Jr.; and a brother, George.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Barre Mills. Rev. Walter Westphal will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Julia S. Nieber
ONALASKA, Wis. - Julia S. Nieber, 93, of Onalaska, died at the St. Francis Nursing Home, Friday, July 17, 1998. She was born July 1, 1905, at Norwalk, Wis., to Louis and Louise (Vieth) Bell. She married Harry Nieber on May 28, 1926.
She is survived by two daughters, LaVonne (Jim) Lepsch and Gwen Whitehead, both of La Crosse; by four grandchildren, Richard Lepsch, Linda (Jerry) Johnson, Laura Lee Hollis and Clifton (Linda) Whitehead; by six great-grandchildren, Jamie and Kevin Johnson, Michelle, Michael and Matthew Whitehead and Scott Hollis; by two sisters, Dorothy Kronschnabel of Fertile, Minn. and Helen (Victor) Bauer of Milwaukee; and by three very special friends, Marilyn Jorgenson, Leona Phelps and Doris Frick. She was preceded in death by her husband; by three brothers, Irvin, Harold and Robert Bell; by a son-in-law, Jerry Whitehead; and a grandson-in-law, Steve Hollis.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Onalaska United Methodist Church. The Reverend Bruce Bartel will officiate. Entombment will be in Gardens of Peace Mausoleum at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the services. Memorials may be given to the church. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main St., Onalaska is assisting with the arrangements.

SPRING GROVE, Minn. - Julia Jeneva Guttormson, 85, of Spring Grove, Minn., died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, Minn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, Minn. and at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Dorothy Balts
OSHKOSH, Wis. - Dorothy Balts, 74, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, July 17, 1998, due to cancer complications. She was born April 4, 1924, to Ben J. and Mildred (Green) Anderson in Chippewa Falls, Wis. Dorothy attended school in Chippewa Falls and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and La Crosse. On June 29, 1944, she married Eugene C. Balts, a noted Wisconsin educator, who died suddenly in Rice Lake, Wis., in 1980.
Dorothy was an English teacher, realtor and free-lance writer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oshkosh. In her church, she was active in the choir, bible school and work camps to Montana and Mississippi. Dorothy also aided in flood relief in Missouri. Mrs. Balts was a volunteer for Hospice and an illiteracy tutor. Dorothy loved life, to sing, dance, read, sew and cook. She delighted in writing poetry, sketching and painting watercolors. Dorothy made lifelong friends wherever she went, and her family was her joy and pride. She left a legacy of faith and love.
Dorothy had five children who survive, they are: Carol (Tom) Klabunde and Ruth (Tony) Greisinger of Oshkosh, Wis., Jane (Bryce) Crawford of LeClaire, Iowa, Vicki Lynn Balts of La Crosse, Wis. and David (Joyce) Balts of Ridgewood, Miss.; two grandsons, Kurt Flack and Andrew Nichols; five granddaughters, Chelsea and Brittany Crawford, Amber Nichols, Carley Williams, Sarah (Don) Benson; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Ruth Benson; Dorothy's mother, Mildred Korn of Cadott, Wis.; a brother, Rollin (Betty) Anderson of Holcombe, Wis.; several in-laws, Lloyd (Carol) Balts, Margaret Larkowski, Len Crogg, all of Chippewa Falls area and Effie Anderson of Cudahy, Wis.; two maternal aunts, Letha Gaier and Olive (Claire) Bellinger; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Donna Crogg; and a brother, Robert Anderson.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. noon Monday, July 20, 1998, at First United Methodist Church, 700 Linwood Ave., Oshkosh, with Rev. David Warren officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Friends are invited to the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle St. on Sunday, July 19, 1998, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Monday, July 20, 1998, at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial has been established in Dorothy's memory to First United Methodist Church and/or a cancer fund of your choice.
