Gina Nohre
HOUSTON, Minn. - Gina Nohre, 96, of Valley View Nursing Home, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born May 12, 1902, in Twin Ridge, Houston County, Minn.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Houston. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel; and one hour prior to services Friday in the church.
Memorials are suggested to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church or donor's choice.

Scot A McGrath
Scot A. McGrath, 32, of La Crosse, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 1998.
Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
A complete obituary will be announced later by the Blaschke Funeral Home.

Matthias A. "Matt" Heimerman
Matthias A. "Matt" Heimerman, 80, of La Crosse, died at Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 21, 1998, after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, at Haverhill, Iowa, to Anton and Magdelan (Ginstaerblum) Heimerman. He married Jean Marie Philibert on Aug. 22, 1950, at DeWitt, Iowa.
Matt served as Captain with the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942 to 1947, commanding a half track unit under General George Patton. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his actions during the Battle of the Bulge.
He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949 and fro the Wisconsin School of Banking in 1969. Matt was a founder of the Coulee State Bank in 1961, serving as Executive Vice President and then as President and member of the Board of Directors until his retirement at which time he was elected Director Emeritus.
Matt was very active in local, state and national banking activities. He started, and served, as director of two banking schools while involved in the management of the Coulee State Bank. He served as Director of the Wisconsin Basic Banking School, was the President of Group VIII of the Wisconsin Bankers Association, was a member of the Wisconsin and American Bankers Association and served on the Council of the Wisconsin Bankers Association for three years.
Matt was active in civic and community affairs, having served on the Board of Directors of the Gateway Area Council B.S.A. and the Riverland Council, G.S.A. He served as Co-Chair for the first Girl Scout Building Campaign and was a member of the finance committee for 15 years. He served as Chairman for the Community Chest Campaign, was a member of SCORE, the Southside Business Association, past member of the Board of Directors of the Greater La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of the Wisconsin Heart Association and was an adviser to Delta Sigma Chi for ten years.

Matt was active in Blessed Sacrament Parish where he was a member of the Men's Club, served as Eucharistic Minister, lector and usher. He was a life member of Council 839 and Bishop Schwabach Assembly, 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus.
He had been a member of the La Crosse Country Club for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; by four daughters, Jan Ellen (Wayne) Eudy of Cornwall on the Hudson, N.Y., Victoria (Dan) Steinhoff of La Crosse, Mary Sue Weber of Madison and Patricia (Ronald) Gleason of Morris Springs, N.J.; by two sons, James (Mary) Heimerman of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeffrey (Linda) Heimerman of Cleveland, Ohio; by three sisters, Mary (Leness) LaLiberte of Fargo, N.D., Rita (Walter) Alley of Libertyville, Ill., and Ruth (Byron) Spear of Albert Lea, Minn.; by three brothers, Wilber (Marge) Heimerman of Sioux Falls, S.D., the Reverend Francis Heimerman of Nashua, Iowa, and Quentin (Sally) Heimerman of Stillwater, Minn.; and by 12 grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Reverend Bernard McGarty will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until departure for the church. A rosary will be recited on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Aquinas Foundation, Franciscan Skemp Foundation, Gundersen Medical Foundation or to the Blessed Sacrament Endowment Trust.

Jason J. Smikrud
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Jason J. Smikrud, 18, of Black River Falls, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident which happened on Monday, July 20.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Black River Falls United Methodist Church and burial will be in the Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Taylor.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls; and one hour prior to services Saturday in the church.

Leona M. Wruck
NORWALK, Wis. - Leona M. Wruck, 92, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, July 22, at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Sparta.
She is survived by her two daughters, Belva Zimmerman, Wilton; Beverly (Jerome) McGarvey, Verona; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Sullivan, Sparta; Lillian Radtke, Janesville.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel United Methodist Church of Norwalk with Rev. Jennie Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Norwalk. Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Norwalk, today from 5-7 p.m.

Helen E. Howard
Helen E. Howard, 91, of La Crosse, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at the La Crescent Healthcare Center. She was born in La Crosse on Aug. 13, 1906, to Earl and Minnie (Turner) Scholl. She married Willard H. Howard in Winona, Minn., on Nov. 19, 1923. He preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Joyce Atchison of Rossville, Ill., by her son, Richard E. Howard of Shoreview, Minn., by a daughter-in-law, Beverly A. Howard of Arden Hills, Minn., by six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home, 605 West Ave. South. The Reverend Michael Frandsen of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church.
Our family extends a very special ``thank you'' to the La Crescent Healthcare Center for the tender loving care they shared with our mother and grandmother during her four year residency.

Hellmuth O. Theiss
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Hellmuth O. Theiss, 82, of Clearwater, Fla., died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at home under care of Hospice. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and came to Florida in 1973 from Holmen, Wis., where he made cabinets and owned and operated a cabinet shop. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was an officer in the European Theater. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marjorie; a son, Douglas, Lakewood, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara Carson, Canton, Ga.; a sister, Anna Carsone, Brookfield, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Memorials can be sent to: The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, Fla., 33770-3770.

Martha June Marx-Hopkins
CASHTON, Wis. - Martha June Marx-Hopkins, 66, of Cashton, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 2, 1931, to Oscar and Emma (Hanson) Johnson in Monroe County. Martha was married to Levi J. Marx Nov. 14, 1950. He preceded her in death Aug. 6, 1979. She then married Alvin Hopkins Oct. 24, 1981. He preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1998.
Martha is survived by eight children: Mary Jo (Timothy) Severson of Holmen with children Misty and Erin; Richard (Cyndi) Boortz-Marx of Rochester, Minn., with children Jonathan and Carly; Robert (Cyndee) Marx of Washburn, Wis., with children Sarah, Joel, Ryan and Kristyn; Rolland Marx of Westby, Wis., with children Brandon and Dustin; Russell (Kathy) Marx of Rockland, Wis., with children Debbi Marx Jewel Fuchs, Amy Marx and Scott Marx; Rodney (Lori) Marx of St. Joseph's Ridge, Wis., with children Shelby and Christopher; Roger (Laura Rannow) Marx of Ashland, Wis., with their daughter Brittany Marx; and Randy (Stephanie Maass) Marx of La Crosse, with children Arianna Zinski Tyler Marx and Madeline Marx. She is further survived by one sister, Esther Pulham of Cashton; three step-children: Nancy (John) Reynolds of Waukegan, Ill., Allyn (Alvina) Hopkins of San Antonio, Texas, and Ricky (Sue) Hopkins of Kenosha, Wis.; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandson, Michael Rolland Marx; and two half-brothers, Clifford and Morris Homstad.
Martha loved her family and lived for them in everything they did.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at 10 a.m. from Immanual Lutheran Church. Pastor Gregory Geier will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Pine Hollow. Relatives and friends may call at the Torkelson Funeral Chapel in Cashton on Tuesday, July 14, 1998, from 6 to 9 p.m. They may also call on Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Anna Marie Slindee
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Anna Marie Slindee, 57, of Minneapolis, died peacefully after a courageous and lengthy struggle with cancer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Irma Slindee, and a sister, Kathryn (Slindee) Krueger.
She is survived by two nephews, a niece, and step-nephew; three grand-nephews and three grand-nieces, many cousins and a host of friends.
Service in celebration of her life will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3901 First Ave. S., Minneapolis. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Werness Brothers, 3700 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis, and one hour prior to service at the church. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hokah, Minn. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, Pilgrim Evangelical Church, Minneapolis, or Zion Evangelical Church (WELLS), Hokah, Minn.
