Herbert H. Lee
WHITEHALL, Wis. - Herbert H. Lee, age 79, of Whitehall, died on Saturday, July 11, 1998, in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Herbert was born on Sept. 23, 1918, in Hillsboro, Wis., to Melvin and Anna Louise (Heinze) Lee. He graduated from the West Salem High School in 1937 and from the agricultural short course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Herbert married Audrey Vogel on Sept. 23, 1939, in Decorah, Iowa. Together they farmed in Hillsboro, West Salem and Pleasantville, Wis., for 21 years.
In 1960, Herbert began employment with the Trempealeau County Highway Department and worked there for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1980.
Herbert was an avid golfer, loved to fish, enjoyed woodworking and spent many winters in Florida.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Audrey A. Lee of Whitehall; four sons, David (Jane) of Eau Claire, Wis., Melvin of Whitehall, Daniel (Karen) of La Crosse, and Peter (Pam) of Ferryville, Wis.; two daughters, Carol (Michael) Daniel of La Crosse, and Mary (Dennis) Bautch of Watertown, Wis.; a sister, Janet Cox of West Salem, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by a brother, George, and a sister, Betty.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at 11 a.m. in Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Rev. LaMoine Jacobs will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 1998, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Helen M. Peacock
Helen M. Peacock, 82, died at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center on Sunday, July 12, 1998. She was born Feb. 15, 1916, in La Crosse to August and Inga (Johnson) Weigel. She married Russell Peacock on Nov. 12, 1938.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mary K. (Jack) Mills of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Mark J. (Debra) White of La Crescent, Robert W. White of La Crosse, Scott A. (Amy) White of Tomah, John P. White of Louisville, Ken., and Kathleen M. (Tony) Curtis of Onalaska; eight great-grandchildren; a special niece and her husband, Joanne and Lorin Wuensch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Private memorial services will be held by the family.

Louise Kabat
Louise Kabat, 98, of La Crosse, died in her home on Saturday, July 11, 1998. She was born in La Crosse on June 3, 1900, to Henry and Emma (Zirke) Harder. She married William Kabat in La Crosse on April 8, 1931, and he preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by four daughters, Rita (Donald) Hutzenbuehler of La Crosse, Patricia (Robert) Senn of Ettrick, Marlene (Richard) Bauer of Chaseburg, and Louise (Richard) Senn of Ettrick; a son, William (Loretta) Kabat of La Crosse; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Elsie Pabst of Onalaska.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, at 11:30 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Steven Staude will officiate and burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Henry William Hinck
WEST SALEM, Wis - Henry William Hinck, 84, of West Salem, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse, with his family at his side.
He was born April 15, 1914, in Scranton, Pa., to parents Henry and Mabel (Stricker) Hinck. Henry served in the Air Force during WW II as a staff sergeant. His duties included the testing and selection of aviation cadet candidates. He was also secretary to the Commanding General in the Pacific Ocean areas. After the war, Henry studied at Yale and the University of Iowa and completed a Ph.D in English Literature in 1954. He taught at eight colleges and universities and was chairman of the division of language and literature at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, before teaching at the University of La Crosse (1964-1984). Henry was known for his expertise in medieval English literature.
Survivors include his wife, Elsbeth; a son, Jonathan; a daughter, Caroline (Kristjan) Sells; two grandchildren, Ethan and Lydia Sells, all of West Salem; a sister, Madeleine Lambert of Moline, Ill.; and a niece, Barbara (Jerry) Primm of River Falls, Wis.
There will be a private family gathering in lieu of a memorial service. Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ramona Delores Schreier
Ramona Schreier, 76, of La Crosse, passed away on July 10, 1998. She was born in Independence, Wis., to Frank and Hattie (Kampa) Skroch. She married Joseph Schreier on July 3, 1943, in Camp McCall, N.C. She was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, a member of St. Joan of Arc Alter Society, Catholic Women's League, Catholic Order of Forresters, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing and craft work.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and her parents.
She is survived by daughter Roberta (Jim) Gill; sons, Mike (Martha), Paul (Cleone), and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at St. Thomas Moore Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 1998. The Blaschke Funeral Home, 401 West Ave. S., is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to St. Thomas Moore Church, American Red Cross or charity of your choice.
Paul W. Zielke
VIROQUA, Wis. - Paul W. Zielke, 84, of Viroqua, died on Wednesday morning, July 18, 1998, at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua where he had been a resident since July 1, 1997.
He was born in La Crosse on July 27, 1913, to Paul and Christine (Januk) Zielke. On Dec. 12, 1938, he married Emma Vieth in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in Monroe County and in 1947 moved to Chaseburg Ridge in Vernon County where they farmed until 1978. He also worked at Torrence Foundry in La Crosse for 17 years while farming. They continued to live on the farm, moving to Viroqua in September 1989. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Viroqua.
He is survived by five sons, Daniel (Janet) of Viroqua, Conrad (Carol) of Ontario, Larry, Barre Mills, Carl (Janice) of Viroqua, James (Debbie) of Princeville, Ill.; four daughters, Ruth Sabel of Cudahy, Margery (David) Totten of Rockford, Ill., Jeanne Zielke of De Soto, Angela (Dennis) Lavota of Racine; 28 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Leonard Zielke of La Crosse; one sister, Delores Heiser of La Crosse; and two sisters-in-law, Elinor and Pauline Zielke, both of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma in December of 1990; an infant daughter, Irene; two grandsons, Steve and Keith Zielke; one sister, Evelyn MacPhetridge; and five brothers, Walter, Frank, Clarence, William and Clifford Zielke.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 1998, at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Pastor Richard Demastus officiating. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park in La Crosse.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. where there will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. Friends may also call after 8 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Sara K. McKittrick
WARRENS, Wis. - Sara K. McKittrick, 45, of Warrens died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in La Crosse to Henry and Myra (Bergh) Hanson. Sara grew up in rural Viroqua, Wis., and was a 1970 graduate of Viroqua High School. She received her Associate Degree in Marketing from WWTC, La Crosse, in 1972. On May 5, 1973, Sara was united in marriage to Larry McKittrick the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. They moved to Warrens in 1984. Sara was a member of the Trail Twisters Snowmobile Club in Warrens and worked in the office at Ocean Spray in rural Tomah, Wis. Sara was a loving wife and devoted mother.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; three sons, Ryan McKittrick and his fiance, Kristi Biermeier, both of La Crosse, Todd McKittrick of La Crosse and Kyle McKittrick living at home; three brothers, David (Shirley) Hanson of Viroqua, Kenneth (Jo) Hanson of Beloit, Wis., and Howard (Linda) Hanson of Viroqua; two sisters, Mary Semeizer of Westby and Susan (David) Humfeld of Chaseburg, Wis.; her mother and father-in-law, Arland and Dorothy McKittrick of Viola, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Ellen (Robert) Miller, also of Viola; one brother-in-law, Tom (Christe) McKittrick of Evansville, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Myra Hanson; and one sister-in-law, Arlana (McKittrick) Merry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Open Door Baptist Church, near Warrens. Pastor Jay Cronholm will officiate. Burial will follow at the Warren Mills Cemetery in Warrens.
Friends may call Friday, July 17, 1998, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the White Funeral Home in Tomah. Friends may also call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
