Erven M. Burkum
GAYS MILLS, Wis. - Erven M. Burkum, 91, of rural Gays Mills, died Monday, Feb. 6, 1998 at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home, Soldiers Grove. He was born in Crawford County Jan. 9, 1907, to Henry and Gusta (Anderson) Burkum. He married Myrtle A. Olson Feb. 22, 1929. She preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 1990.
They farmed in the Soldiers Grove area until 1944, when they moved to their home in Crow Hollow. They had been members of Mount Sterling Lutheran Church, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Soldiers Grove, and he was a charter member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gays Mills.
Surviving are two daughters, Lola Jean (Ronald) Peterson of Gays Mills and Ellen (Theodore) Kobs of Adams, Wis.; two sons, Herbert (Donna) and Rodney (Linda) Burkum of Gays Mills; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Flanigan of Rockford, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Borghild Burkum of Soldiers Grove and Cornelia Burkum of Florida; a brother-in-law, Howard Olson of Verona, Wis.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Arlene and Anita; a granddaughter, Jodi; a sister, Stella Olson; four brothers, Oscar and his wife Borghild, Alert, Milford and Ruby; and a brother-in-law, Paul Flanagan.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 21, 1998, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Soldiers Grove. Pastor Leif Espeland will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Sterling Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service; and on Saturday at the church from noon until the time of services.

Germaine Marie `Gerry' Lash
Germaine Marie ``Gerry'' Lash, 72, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, February 17, 1998 in her home. She was born on March 2, 1925, in Bowler, Wis., to Gertrude Welch. Gerry married Edward Lash on October 20, 1945, in North Bend, Wis. She had worked as a waitress and had operated a child care service before starting A-1 Catering, which she ran for 15 years. She then operated the ``Bow Wowserie'' dog grooming parlor on French Island until her retirement. Gerry was a member of the Mohican Stockbridge Muncee tribe and was very proud of her Native American heritage. She was also very helpful to the Coulee Region Humane Society with grooming and placement of animals.
Gerry is survived by her husband, Edward; two sons, David Lash of La Crosse and Kenneth (Terry) Lash of La Crosse; two daughters, Collette (Barry) Fagan of La Crosse and Rochelle (Randy) Steiger of La Crosse; her grandchildren, John Lash, Brook Lash, William Fagan, Edward Fagan and Clinton Steiger; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and two brothers, Paul and Gene Welch.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Donald Fox will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Coulee Region Humane Society.

Rolland (Stub) Griffin
TOMAH, Wis. - Rolland (Stub) Griffin, age 81, of Tomah, died Monday, February 16, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born February 8, 1917 in the town of Grant, Wisconsin to Albert and Estella (Purdy) Griffin. He was united in marriage to Leola Gregoroff on October 9, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Rolland cleared the land and built buildings for Fort McCoy during his younger years. He then started working as an auto mechanic in Sparta, Wis., and later he worked most of his years at Norris Vernier in Tomah, Wis., until his retirement in 1974. Rolland also loved working with wood.
He is survived by his wife, Leola; three sons, Eugene (Barbara) of Plover, Wis., Howard (Lynn) of Bellevue, Neb., Vernon (Janet) of Madison, Wis.; three daughters, Virginia (Charles) Picard of Beaumont, Calif., Veva (Robert) Knutson of Rosholt, Wis., and Lisa Griffin of Tomah, Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Bernadine Griffin; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roger; six brothers, Johnnie, Delbert, Lyle, Kenneth, Virgil, and Arnold; and two sisters, Betty and Violet.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 19, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the White Funeral Home in Tomah. Burial will follow at the La Grange Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the White Funeral Home. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the White Funeral Home.

Ruth Cecelia Fletcher
Ruth Cecelia Fletcher, 94, of La Crosse, Wis., died at Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility on Monday, January 16, 1998.
She was born on January 28, 1904 in Cumberland, Md., to George and Ella Fletchinger. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlotte; 12 brothers and sisters; and husbands, George Leidinger and Harry Fletcher. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Brown of La Crosse; a daughter, Dorothy Gordon (Elison), of Middle Granville, N.Y.; and a son, Raymond Leidinger (Bernadette) of Cumberland, Md. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Carolyn Brown of Minneapolis, Michael Brown of St. Paul, Veronica Eagan (Gary) of Cumberland, Md.; John Filler (Pat) of Warner Robins, Ga., Mary Fox (Tom) of North Granville, N.Y., Raymond Leidinger Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Francis Stokes (Steve Weidman) of Racine, Wis., and Paulette Zettlemoyer (Robert) of Waynesboro, Va. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held with the family at a later date in Cumberland, Md., and burial will be in Cumberland.
Woodruff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

James M. Pinorsky Sr.
WHITE SPRINGS, Fla./TREMPEALEAU, Wis. - James M. Pinorsky Sr., of White Springs, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at his home, following a long illness. The Trempealeau native moved to White Springs in 1997 from Plantation, Fla. Mr. Pinorsky retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 with Security, after 30 years in the Air Force. He served during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, D.A.V. and V.F.W., and was a member of the St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church in Live Oak. Fla.
Survivors are his wife, Catherine Pinorsky of White Springs; five daughters, Donna Rothblatt and Patricia Cumbow, both of Fort Lauderdale, Marie Thomas of The Colony, Texas, Rose Villa of Fort Lauderdale, and Theresa and John McIntosh of Lake City, Fla.; three sons, James M. Pinorsky Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Robert A. Pinorsky of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Richard and Patty Pinorsky of Lake City, Fla.; two sisters, Lucille Gilles and Frances Childers, both of La Crosse; a brother, Vincent Pinorsky of Trempealeau; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services, with military rites, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 1998 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Trempealeau.
The Smith Mortuary, Galesville, assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville, Fla. 32606, for the Lake City office.

William J. Gleiss
SPARTA, Wis. - William J. Gleiss, 77, of 701 W. Main Street, Sparta, died Monday, February 16, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, La Crosse.
He was born on March 26, 1920, in Tomah, to William M. and May (Rice) Gleiss. He grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1936. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then graduated from the UW-Madison Law School.
William enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served until being discharged as Lieutenant in 1945. He married Blanche Vail on March 10, 1945, in Evanston, Illinois. After marriage they lived in South Bend, Indiana, and then moved to Sparta in the fall of 1946, where he practiced law with the Gleiss Law Office. William served as Monroe County District Attorney from 1948 until 1962.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Sparta Rotary Club and served on the board of directors for Western Federal Savings and Loan, Sparta, and the First Bank of Sparta.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche of Sparta; three daughters, Harriet (James) Gadbaw of Olympia, Wash., Katherine (Michael) Gleiss/Monar of Evanston, Ill., Elizabeth (Andrew Kaftan) Gleiss of Rt.3 Sparta; a son, William V. (Jean) Gleiss of Sparta; ten grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Mulvany of Sparta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Phalen.
Memorial services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Floyd Dwyer and Father Mark Walljasper officiating.
Military honors will be provided by V.F.W. Post 2112 and American Legion Post 100, Sparta.
The Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Brandon M. Jamesson
SPARTA, Wis. - Brandon M. Jamesson, 15, of 407 Merrill Street, Sparta, died Monday, February 16, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born on October 25, 1982, in La Crosse to Michael and Brenda (Robson) Jamesson. He grew up in Sparta and was a student at Sparta High School. Brandon enjoyed music and singing, looking at semi trucks and driving tractors. He was volunteer at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta.
He is survived by his father, Michael Jamesson of Cashton; his mother, Brenda Jamesson of Sparta; a brother, Christopher Jamesson of Cashton; two sisters, Serenity and Angela Jamesson, both of Sparta; maternal grandparents, John and Judy Jamesson of Sparta; and a paternal grandmother, Ann Jamesson of Sparta.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeremy.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Reverend David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Pole Cemetery, Liberty Pole, Wis.
Friends may call at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta, on Friday from 4 until 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Agnes Gillitzer
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Agnes Gillitzer, 79, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Tuesday, February 17, 1998, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 1998, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, Wis., with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, with the rosary at 4:15 p.m. and scripture service at 7 p.m.
She is survived by brothers and sisters, Rita (Lyle) Lester of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Anna Marie (John) Lathrop of Boscobel, Wis., Eugene (Mary) Gillitzer of Seneca, Wis., Catherine (Richard) McGrath of Madison, Wis., Loretta (Tom) Check of Milton, Wis., John (Norma) Gillitzer of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Roger (Janice) Gillitzer of Janesville, Wis.; sister-in-law, Marcella Gillitzer of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and a special friend, Shirley Gelback of Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Agnes was born May 23, 1918, in La Crosse, Wis., to parents Aloysius and Anna McNamara Gillitzer. She graduated from Mercy Hospitals Nursing Program in Dubuque, Iowa, and worked there for almost 18 years moving to Prairie du Chien in 1940. She worked at the hospital, convalescent center and for Dr. Wong until her retirement in 1980.
