TOMAH, Wis. - Robert Schueler, 73, of Tomah, Wis., died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Tomah Memorial Hospital.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Tomah Hospice Touch are preferred.
The Ninneman-Steele Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roland L. Friedl
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Roland L. Friedl, 77, of Hillsboro, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Picha Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial will be in the South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Frank W. Rueckheim
NORWALK, Wis. - Frank W. Rueckheim, 76, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, February 10, 1998, at the V.A. Medical Center, Tomah.
He was born August 20, 1921, to William and Amelia (Buchholz) Rueckheim in the Town of Wellington, Monroe County, Wis. He was united in marriage to Emma Van Kirk, January 26, 1962, at Green Bay. He was a WWII Army veteran. After his discharge he farmed on the family farm in the Pleasant Valley area near South Ridge. In 1961, he started working in commercial construction for John Cox in Tomah, and Howard Emmil Construction in Green Bay until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #1530 La Crosse and American Legion Post #100, Sparta.
In addition to his wife, Emma, he is survived by one brother, Gilbert Rueckheim of Kendall; and one sister, Freda (Marvin) Reeck of Wilton; a brother-in-law, Vernon Van Kirk of Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilton. Rev. Daniel Dibbert will officiate. Burial will be in the South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Wellington.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home in Wilton on Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Michael L. Fitzgerald
Michael L. Fitzgerald, 56, a resident of Lakeview Health Center, West Salem, Wis., died on Wednesday, February 11, 1998, at the health center.
He was born on July 23, 1941, in Mount Shasta, California, the only child of Harold and Ethel Fitzgerald. Michael and his family moved to the La Crosse area in 1956. Mike has been a resident of several area nursing homes, most recently Lakeview, which became his home in 1994. His interests included baseball, reading and writing.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 1998, at the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. There will be no visitation. The Rev. Roger Hegenbarth of St. Leo's Catholic Church in West Salem will officiate.
The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
Bernice M. (Wiggert) Groeschel
Bernice M. (Wiggert) Groeschel, age 92, of La Crosse, died Tuesday, February 10, 1998, at the Hillview Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past six years.
She was born on January 29, 1906, in La Crosse to Frank and Katherine (Kendhammer) Wiggert. Bernice worked at Paramount Studios in La Crosse for several years. On October 15, 1949, she married Henry J. Groeschel; he preceded her in death on November 28, 1979.
Bernice is survived by a son, Donald (Shirley) Wiggert of La Crosse; a granddaughter, Debra (Edward) Wurzel of La Crosse; two grandsons, Larry (Lavone) Wiggert of Onalaska and David (Pamela) Wiggert of La Crosse; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kristin Wurzel and Casey and Amanda Wiggert, all of La Crosse; a brother, Robert (Mavis) Wiggert of La Crosse. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mildred Mitchell; and a brother-in-law, Jerome Mitchell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14, 1998, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Rafacz officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 7:30 p.m.; and again at the church on Saturday from 10:30 until the time of services.
Sylvia I. Helgerson
MOUNT STERLING, Wis. - Sylvia I. Helgerson, 91, of Mt. Sterling, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at the Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua.
She was born in Gays Mills, August 27, 1906, to Arch and Pearl (Potter) Moore. She married Marvin J. Helgerson on Dec. 27, 1930; he preceded her in death on May 13, 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Kinney, Richland Center, Wis., and Joyce (Julius) Ward, Muscoda, Wis.; by a son, Ronald (Gloria) Helgerson, Madison, Wis.; by nine grandchildren, Randy (Colleen) Helgerson, Rhonda Helgerson, Renee (Tim) Ryan, Jayne Ward, Julie (Joe) Dirtberner, Jody (Rusty) Jones, Brent (Denise) Kinney, Kelly (Roger) Weber, Kerri (Jeff) Dalberg; and eleven great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Esther Sime, Rockford, Ill., and Colleen (Shelby) Cushman, Gays Mills; three brothers, Wesley (Doris) Moore, Mauston, Wis., Dale (Buelah) Moore, Oxford, Wis., and Bert (Mabel) Moore, Lancaster, Wis.; by sisters-in-law, Joyce Moore, Adams Friendship, Wis., Pat Moore, Gays Mills, Wis., and Helen Selck of La Crosse; brothers-in-law, Nordahl Helgerson, Mount Sterling, Andrew (Evelyn) Helgerson, Mount Sterling and Joe Michel, La Crosse.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Olson and Velma Proudfoot; adn two brothers Frank Moore and Berlie Moore.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Finger will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church or charity of your choice.
Jasper D. Gill
VIROQUA, Wis. - Jasper D. Gill, age 78, of Leitchfield, Ky., and formerly of Viroqua, died on Tuesday, February 10, 1998, at the Heartland Hill Care Center in Elizabethtown, Ky.
He was born in Oray, Colo., to Jasper and Bertha (Fisher) Gill. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army seeing action in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardnennes and Central Europe.
On December 4, 1945, he married Mary Walling in Viroqua. They moved to Milwaukee where they both worked at Briggs and Stratton. In 1966, they moved to rural De Soto and farmed until 1972 when they moved to rural Viroqua. Mary died on May 15, 1987. On October 2, 1992, he married Nellie Roberts in Leitchfield, Ky. They continued to make their home in Leitchfield after their marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie, and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Almyra Zerepy and Lettie Gill; and four brothers, Milton, Pressley, Ira and John Gill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 13th, 1998, in the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with the Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat, rural De Soto.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. on Friday.
Julie E. Wurster
SPARTA, Wis. - Julie E. Wurster, 82, of Sparta, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Sparta.
She was born in Sparta on June 22, 1915, the daughter of Archie and Emma (Kiefer) Hoffman. She graduated from the La Crosse State Teachers College in 1937. On February 22, 1938, she was united in marriage to Delbert Wurster in Davenport, Iowa. They lived all of their married lives in Sparta. She worked as a bookkeeper for Wurster Insurance and retired in 1980. Del died July 28, 1991.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Masters and Ann Schaitel; five brothers, Spencer, Roger, Stephen, Thomas and George Hoffman.
Surviving is one sister, Marge Devereaux, Sparta.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Mark Walljasper officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the service.
