George E. Goyette, age 65, of La Crosse died in the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center on Wednesday, February 11, 1998. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday and complete arrangements will be announced by the Dickinson Family Funeral Homes.
Mary L. Kregger
Mary L. Kregger, 90, of 2516 Hoeschler Dr., La Crosse, died in her home on Thursday, February 12, 1998. Services announced later. Fossum Funeral Home, Onalaska.
Iona A. Olson
VIROQUA, Wis. - Iona A. Olson, age 91, a former resident of Park View Manor in Viroqua, died Wednesday, February 11, 1998, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, where she had resided for the past 1 1/2 years. She was born December 24, 1906, in the Sugar Creek area of Crawford County to Amund and Ingri (Nash) Emerson. She was united in marriage to John (Jack) Olson on October 28, 1931, in La Crosse. They farmed for many years in the Viroqua area. For a time they owned and operated a Lake Resort near Brookings, South Dakota. After returning to the Viroqua area, Iona worked as a nurses aid for Vernon Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua.
She is survived by her two daughter, Janet (Henry) Jacobson of Green Bay and Geraldine (Paul) Ellefson of Viroqua; six grandchildren, Bonnie Maloney of Longwood, Fla., Christi (David) Reed of Viroqua, Jim Jacobson of Green Bay, Eric (Pamela) Ellefson of Minneapolis, Heidi (Andy) Gruse of Monroe, Hans Ellefson and His fiance, Tara of Raleigh, N.C.; and 11 great-grandchildren. Iona was preceded in death by her husband, John on September 26, 1968; one grandson, John Jacobson in June of 1975; one sister, Stella Anundson; and six brothers, Lloyd, Emert, Emil, Palmer, Albert and Arthur Emerson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 1998, at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Revs. Roger Hjelle and Stephanie Steiner will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday after 10 a.m.
Paul F. Murphy
SOLDIERS GROVE, Wis. - Paul F. Murphy, 81, of rural Soldiers Grove, died peacefully at his home Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998. He was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Clayton Township to Philip and Rose (Malone) Murphy. He married Grace Monahan Jan. 3, 1940, in the St. Philip's Catholic Church.
They farmed in the Rolling Ground area and he was a lifetime member of St. Philip's Catholic Church. He was longtime member of the Gays Mills and North Crawford School Board from 1942 to 1972; starting with the Mook School District (Rolling Ground). He had been the caretaker for the Gary Comer Estate for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Grace; sons, Phil (Nancy) of Boscobel, Bill of Gays Mills, Pat (Amy) and Ron (Bonnie) all of Rolling Ground; and daughters, Jane (Mick) Killey of Boaz, Wis. and Mary Kay Murphy of Milwaukee, Wis.; by eleven grandchildren, Steve (Christy) Murphy, Lisa (Minh) McKenzie, Angie (Jeff) Adams, Sara, Kelly, Scott, Jennifer, Jeff, Lindsey, Jonathan and Jacob; by four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Kellen and Kayla; by a brother, Clifford (Lorraine) Murphy, Soldiers Grove; and two sisters, Ann Martin, Boscobel and Arlene (Lyall) Hehn of Hartland, Wis. He was preceded in death by a son, Rich in 1963; by his parents and three sisters, Leona Dawson, Mary Johnson and Rosella Bowers.
The Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at St. Philip's Catholic Church. The Reverend Leon Rausch will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills, on Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the North Crawford Rescue Squad, Soldiers Grove or the charity of your choice.

VIROQUA, Wis. - Albert Dach, age 67, of Route #1, Box 42A, Viroqua died on Thursday afternoon February 12, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Funeral services will be announced by Thorson Funeral Home of Viroqua.
William Karl (Bill) Kinstler
William Karl (Bill) Kinstler, 97, of La Crosse died Thursday, April 12, 1998, at Bethany Riverside Health Care Center. He was born in the Township of Richmond, Minn. on April 22, 1900 to August and Ida (Papenfuss) Kinstler. He worked for La Crosse Auto Lite of La Crosse and at Wesley United Methodist Church before his retirement. He married Helen Warren on August 4, 1939, in Decorah, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1978.
He is survived by two sisters, Lillian Stork of Correll, Minn. and Cordelia (Gerald) Hansen of La Crosse; three brothers, John Kinstler of La Crescent, Donald (Jean) and Harry Kinstler, both of La Crosse; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; three sisters, Anna Harlos, Hazel Yates and Mabel Scott; three brothers, Erwin, Alfred and Arnold. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Don Iliff will officiate and burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are requested. The Woodruff Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.
Myrtle J. Knobloch
Myrtle Jeanette Knoblock, 78, of La Crosse died peacefully in her home among family members on February 11, 1998, at 5 p.m.; ending her courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Myrtle was the eldest child of ten, born to Oscar and Emma (Kendhammer) Grabhorn on January 8, 1920. She was married to Robert John Knobloch on September 30, 1938. Together they farmed in the early years of their marriage.
In addition to being a wife and mother of four children, Myrtle touched the lives of many others in the community through her independently operated domestic care work, which she carried on until the onset of her disease in 1997. Many of her clients and their families became cherished lifelong friends.
Myrtle lost her husband, Robert, in 1984, to heart disease and stroke. Since the time she focused her life on family, particularly her grandchildren and her many close friends. Myrtle's joy in life was in giving selflessly to others, and she will be always remembered in this spirit. Myrtle touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed now that she has been called to her ultimate reward.
Myrtle is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Darryl) Wright of Onalaska, Vicki (Jim) Cordes of Brownsville, Minn. and Jeannette (Cy) Harris of Genoa, Wis.; one son, Dale (Claudia) Knobloch of Racine, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Todd, Tara, Tanya, Amanda, Debra, Jim and Ann; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Johnston of Hokah, Minn., Irene Stahl and Leona (Ken) Johnson, both of La Crosse; three brothers, Calvin (Mary) Grabhorn of La Crosse, Reuben Grabhorn of Stoddard, Wis. and Albert (Eunice) Grabhorn of Rockland, Wis. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse with Rev. C. Philip Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m.

Darlene McNulty
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Darlene McNulty, 61, of Black River Falls, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in Pine View Nursing Home. In accordance with her wishes, Darlene's body was donated to the UW-Madison. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, is serving the family.
Alfred V. `Jiggs' Straight
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Alfred V. ``Jiggs'' Straight, 64, of White City area of the Town of Manchester, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Milton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday; and 1 p.m. until services Wednesday, both in the Funeral Home.
Paul W. Van Riper
Paul W. Van Riper, 81, of La Crosse, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his home. He was born March 15, 1917, at Mindoro, to William and Anna (Hansen) Van Riper. He married Florence Stankey and she preceded him in death. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
He had been employed by American Motors for 19 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 1254, the Moose Lodge, and American Legion Post 52.
He is survived by three daughters, Sue (Dean) Tilson, of Hastings, Minn., Jean Miller, of La Crosse, and Debra Van Riper; by two sons, Dennis (Theresa) Van Riper, of Michigan, and Jeff Van Riper, of La Crosse; by two brothers, Harold Van Riper, of La Crosse, and Merle Van Riper, of Minnesota; and by twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette St. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until the time of services.
