Henry E. `Hank' Hanson
CHASEBURG, Wis. - Henry E. ``Hank'' Hanson, 92, of Chaseburg died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, very peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. He was born April 1, 1906, to Ole and Matte (Tomte) Hanson. On June 27, 1934, he married Evelyn Myhre in Coon Valley. They farmed their married life in the Chaseburg area and he worked at the Chaseburg Creamery for 30 years. Henry was a member of the Chasebury Lions for many years and also a member of Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; one son, Harlan (Elaine) Hanson, Chaseburg; two daughters, Barbara (Gary) Kromke, Racine and Linda Kreuzer, Chaseburg; 13 grandchildren, Teresa (Harlan) Helseth of Coon Valley, Bob (Shelley) Hanson of Westby, Brian Hanson of Merrill, Jeff (Laurie) Lunde and Rick (Michelle) Lunde of Racine, Deb (Mike) Muleiski and Curt (Becky) Kromke of West Salem, Cory (Sonya) Kromke of Racine, Ted (Deb) Kreuzer of La Crosse, Terry (Jackie) Kreuzer of Chaseburg, Tom Kreuzer Jr. of Coon Valley, Tabatha Kreuzer of La Crosse and Teejay Kreuzer of Chaseburg; 20 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Andrea and Emily Helseth, Dustin and Jamie Hanson, Elizabeth, Greg, Anthony and Megan Hanson, Tyler and Mathew Lunde, Kelsey, Andrew and Tanner Lunde, Jimmy, Brianna and Alex Muleiski, Andrew Kromke, Carston Kromke and Kassidy Kreuzer; two brothers, Lloyd (Vi) Hanson of Chaseburg and Aldor (Bev) Hanson of La Crosse; one sister-in-law, Ruth Schuster of Chaseburg and two brothers-in-law, Orville Lehrke and Roy (Mary) Myhre of Chaseburg and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Gregory Hanson; one son-in-law, Thomas Kreuzer; three brothers and five sisters.
He has left a wonderful legacy of `love and life' to his wife of 64 years and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. God Bless his memory. He will be missed greatly by all.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Steve Jensen will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Allen J. Hogden
Allen J. Hogden, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Bethany Riverside. Woodruff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Beverley J. Schlicht
Beverley J. Schlicht, 68, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. She was born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Chicago, Ill. to Alberta (Dyer) and James Walsh. Her father passed away when Bev was three and the family returned to Alberta's hometown of Eagle River, Wis. After graduation from high school, Beverley attended Milwaukee Business College. In 1950, Beverley moved to La Crosse and became one of the first medical secretaries for Dr. Adolf Gundersen, Sr. She worked at the clinic for 41 years and retired in 1992 as the Surgical Residency Coordinator. She was well liked and respected by all her friends and co-workers at the clinic. In 1960, Beverley married Richard Schlicht in La Crosse. They were married for 38 years and had a wonderful life together. Beverley was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was very active in the Women's Circle and other church activities. Beverley enjoyed retirement and traveling across country with Richard. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards and taking care of her friends and family.
Beverley is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Meg (Joseph) Buchner of Ferryville, Wis. and Mary (William) Johnson of Rockland, Wis.; two grandchildren, Greg Johnson and Katie Johnson of Rockland; her brother, James (Joan) Walsh of Eagle River; her uncle, Lyle Dyer of Eagle River; many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger A. Hjelle officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Beverley was a very caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy and the most important part of her life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
John A. Sahlstrom
GALESVILLE, Wis. - John A. Sahlstrom, 73, of Galesville died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, in his home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1925, to Archie and Hannah (Peterson) Sahlstrom in Galesville, Wis. He attended area schools.
On Sept. 11, 1954, he married Alta June (White) in Rockford, Ill. They farmed in the area for many years. John also was a very active member of Holmen Baptist Church.
John is survived by four sons, James (Susan), Leland and Curtis, all of Galesville, Kenneth (Julie) of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Karen Sahlstrom of Galesville and Carole of Newberry Springs, Calif.; five grandchildren, Rachel, Ruth, Rebekah, Renee and Anna; two brothers, Carl (Betty) of Holmen and Melvin (Anna Mae) of Galesville. John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Holmen Baptist Church. Rev. Keith Habegger will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Cliff Cemetery in Galesville. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at the Zwickey Funeral Home in Galesville and from noon till services at the church on Monday. Zwickey Funeral Home, Galesville, assisted the family with arrangements.
Shirley Rose Oppert
VIROQUA, Wis. - Shirley Rose Oppert, 76, of 15 South Washington Heights died on Saturday morning, Sept. 26, 1998, at Vernon Memorial Hospital. She was born on Nov. 13, 1921, to Seth and Eva (Sutton) Sigford in Waushara County. She graduated from Wautoma High School in 1939 and also the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. Degree in Dietetics. On Aug. 29, 1943, she married Harold Oppert at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. They lived in Detroit, Mich., where he did a medical internship. He was then called into the military and they lived in San Antonio, Tex. and later at Fort Worth. In 1948, they moved to Gays Mills where he had a general medical practice until 1950, when he was recalled into the military during the Korean War. They lived in Madison and in November 1952, they moved to Viroqua when Dr. Oppert became associated with the Hirsch Clinic. Shirley was a stay at home mother who was very active in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Magdalene Circle and the Altar Guild. She also was a member of the Vernon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Literary Guild and bridge club. When her children were young she was a girl and cub scout leader. She and her husband also were members of the Wisconsin Orchid Society and the Coulee Region Orchid Guild.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Harold Oppert; two daughters, Margaret (Bruce) Peters of Rochester Hills, Mich., Jane (Peter) Petersilie of La Crescent, Minn.; three sons, Lawrence ``Larry'' Oppert of Black River Falls, David (LaDonna) Oppert of Dubuque, Iowa, John (Lori) Oppert of Viroqua; eleven grandchildren, Corina Peters, Katherine, Elizabeth and Matthew Oppert, Andy and Amy Petersilie, Seth and Eric Oppert and Carl Oppert, Jessica (Jeremy) Hayes and Stacey Conrad; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Conrad and Triston Oppert. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet Sigford.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua with Pastor Stephanie Steiner officiating. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Gordon W. McCoy
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Gordon W. McCoy, 86, of Hillsboro, passed away on Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at the Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Picha Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Picha Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
Mary Wehrs
BANGOR, Wis. - Mary Wehrs, 91, of Sparta, and formerly of Bangor, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta, where she has been a resident for the past ten years. She was born April 14, 1907, in Bangor, Wis. to William and Sophia (Wehrs) Wehrs. She married Carl Wehrs in August of 1946 in Bangor, and he preceded her in death in 1993. Mary, was formerly employed by the Farmer's State Bank in Bangor, for many years. She was a lifelong member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was an avid bowler, and she especially enjoyed her flowers and garden.
She is survived by one brother, Harry (Dorothy) Wehrs of West Salem and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bangor. Rev. Roy Hefti will officiate. Burial will be in the Burns Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, from 12 until time of services. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Fossum Funeral Home in Bangor is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard A. `Dick' Lynne
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Richard A. ``Dick'' Lynne, 71, Black River Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at home. Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m. from the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Committal services, with military honors, will be on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Clarkfield Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minn. Memorials may be given to the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Red Cross, or the Jackson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, is serving the family.

INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Lawrence J. Sylla, 81, of Independence, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence. Monday evening there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
