Jazmyn H. Stumpf
PORTAGE, Wis. - Jazmyn ``Hope'' Stumpf, five week old infant daughter of Marcie and Jeffrey Stumpf, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1998, at Froedhert Hospital in Milwaukee with a very rare heart defect. Jazmyn was immediately taken to Children's Hospital where the following day she underwent a five to six hour operation to have her heart placed back into her chest. She came through that initial surgery with flying colors and continued to have surgeries about once a week. Jazmyn was a true fighter in every sense of the word. She continued to surprise the doctors and nurses daily, not to mention mom and dad. She fought right up to the end, her little heart never gave up. She finally was overcome by an infection she couldn't fight off. Jazmyn died in the arms of her mother and with the comfort of family. Her death was very sudden and unexpected because she had been recovering so well.
Jazmyn is survived by her parents, Jeffrey and Marcie Stumpf of Portage; four sisters, Kami, Taylor, Mackenzie and Brooke; two brothers, Jeffrey and Ben; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Sherry Bornick of Portage; paternal grandparents, Jim and Elaine Stumpf of Onalaska; great-grandparents, Marion and David Lloyd of Cambria; an uncle, Mark Bornick of Portage; an aunt, Roxanne Stumpf of Idaho; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jazmyn was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Elmer and Mildred Bornick.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at 11 a.m. from the Portage Presbyterian Church. Rev. Julie WaterDu will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Portage. Friends may call at the Port-Axtell Community Funeral Home in Portage on Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, from 5 to 8 p.m. and at church on Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Jazmyn was very lucky because she touched so many people in the short time she was with us. She received cards and letters from all over the state, country and world. She has truly been an inspiration to people and children everywhere. She was called ``Baby Hope.'' Although she was given to us for only a short time, we enjoyed every moment we had with her. She will always be a large part of this family and the community.
``Hope:'' Trust, reliance, desire accompanied by expectation of fulfillment, something hoped for. ``One that gives promise for the future.'' There is an old saying, ``Hope springs eternal'' and Jazmyn will remain in our hearts forever. Love Mom and Dad
