PLEASANTVILLE/WHITEHALL, Wis. - Stewart G. Miller, 58, of Pleasantville, Wis., died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, Wis. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, in the Jack Funeral Home, Whitehall. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
Evangeline M. `Vannie' Gaede
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Evangeline M. ``Vannie'' Gaede, 76, of Black River Falls, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997 in Pine View Nursing Home, Black River Falls. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday from Squaw Creek Lutheran Church, rural Black River Falls. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Cataract. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7:30 p.m. VFW Auxiliary service, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls; and from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the church.
Rudolph F. `Shorty' Sprain
Rudolph F. ``Shorty'' Sprain, 92, of La Crosse and formerly of Barre Mills, died Saturday, September 13, 1997 at his home. He was born December 2, 1904 in the town of Barre to Louis and Lina (Schroeder) Sprain. He married Edith Lehfeld of Secaucus, New Jersey, and they were married for over 50 years. Rudy worked at Allis-Chalmers as a drill press operator for over 25 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Barre Mills, where he served as a janitor for many years. Rudy was also a member of the Barre Mills School Board. His family remembers his willingness to always help others in their time of need.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; four children, Jane (Patrick) Baumer of Eagle River, Alaska, Patricia Sprain of La Crosse, Kenneth (Shawn) Sprain of Tomah and Caroline Sheehan of West Salem; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one half brother, Ervin (Bernadine) Sprain of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Louis, Walter, Teddy and Alvin; two sisters, Dorie and Leonora; and a grandson, Timothy Baumer.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 17 at 11 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Barre Mills. Rev. Walter Westphal will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem, today from 6 to 8 p.m.; and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Julitta A. `Julie' Hauswirth
Julitta A. ``Julie'' Hauswirth, 90, a former resident of Pettibone Island and La Crescent, Minn., died on Sunday, September 14, 1997, at the Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center, La Crosse. She was born in Avon, Minnesota, on December 18, 1906, to Theodore and Rosa (Micklish) Hoeschen. She married Paul Schrepel on June 6, 1927, in St. Cloud, Minn., and they were later divorced. On November 1, 1946, she married Martin De Boer in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1959. She then married Rudolph Hauswirth on July 9, 1971. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1991. Julie worked at the Electric Auto Lite for 16 years until the plant's closing. She also had four houses on Pettibone Island which brought her great joy throughout her life.
Julie is survived by her only child, Cheryl P. (Calvin) Yeske of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Larry (Diane) Yeske, William Yeske, Marilyn (Albert) Trussoni, Edwin Yeske, Kathryn (Nickolas) Stuber, Robert (Carol) Yeske; seven grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 1997, at 10 a.m. from the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent. Rev. Donald W. Grubisch will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is in charge of arrangements.

TOMAH, Wis. - Richard Greeno, 88, of Tomah, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997 in Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Sparta. Funeral services will be noon Wednesday in the White Funeral Home, Tomah. HILLSBORO, Wis. - Bernice A. Erpenbach, 77, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997 in St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Hillsboro. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, and burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, both in Hillsboro. Alice J. Johnson
WHITEHALL, Wis. - Alice J. Johnson, 75, of Whitehall, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 in Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Friday in the church. The Jack Funeral Home, Whitehall, is assisting the family.
Charles Harold `Chuck' Luce Jr.
SANDY, Utah/ONALASKA, Wis. - Charles Harold ``Chuck'' Luce Jr., age 62, formerly of Onalaska, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997 at his home in Sandy, Utah, after a brave battle against cancer. Chuck was born on Aug. 5, 1935 in La Crosse, Wis., to Charles H. Luce and Harriet (Cooper) Luce. Chuck graduated from Onalaska High School in 1953. He married Sharon Shuttenhelm of Onalaska, Wis., and had five children. They later divorced. He married JaeSoon Lee Luce on Dec. 17, 1985. He worked for the last 20 years for A.M. General Corp. (presently Oshkosh Truck Corp.) as a field service representative, traveling extensively to Asia and the Middle East. He loved fishing, hunting and boating.
He is survived by his wife, JaeSoon; a stepson, Yang Jin Jim Chun of Sandy, Utah; four daughters, Terri Luce of Bloomington, Ill., Linda Luce of Fontana, Calif., Tammy Shogren of Fontana, Calif., and Gail Johnson of Mont Clair, Calif.; one son, Connie Jay Luce of Ochlocknee, Ga.; two brothers, Donald Luce Sr. of Holmen, Wis., and Randy Luce of Onalaska, Wis.; one sister, Carolyn Luce of Onalaska, Wis.; and two stepsisters, Donna Schaitel of Onalaska, Wis., and Betty Lomprey of La Crosse, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and one stepbrother, Gary Willette of Tampa, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 at 10 a.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Chapel, 10055 South State St., Sandy, Utah. Friends may call this evening from 7:30 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of services, both in the chapel. Interment will take place at Lake Hills Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.
He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Eva Louise (Turben) Sullivan
SPARTA, Wis. - Eva Louise (Turben) Sullivan, 70, of Sparta, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997 at home. She was born in Richland County, Wis., on December 8, 1926, the daughter of LeRoy and Ivor (Hoke) Ewing. She was married to Gerald Turben in 1945. Gerald died in 1962. In 1967 she was united in marriage to Daniel Sullivan. He died in 1973. Eva worked at St. Mary's Hospital, Sparta, for 10 1/2 years as a nurse's aid. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cashton.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by one grandson; one sister, Mary Doyle; and three brothers, James, William and John Ewing.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Gene) Brueggeman of Stillman Valley, Ill., and Evelyn (James) Miller of Pekin, Ill.; one son, Allen Turben of Tomah; six grandchildren; four sisters, Isolene Frank of Reedsburg, Betty Dedrick of Madison, Joan Parkinson of Richland Center and Mary Boyle of Madison; and two brothers, Raymond Ewing of Ontario, Wis., and Bucky Ewing of Dodgeville, Wis.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sparta Arms Meeting Room, 106 North L St., Sparta, with Rev. Jeffrey Miller officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Folsom South Kickapoo Cemetery, south of Viroqua. The Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, is in charge of arrangements.
Christina T. Betts
Christina T. Betts, 90, of Sparta, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta.
She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Edmison, Sparta; four sons, Merlin Betts, Rockland, Wis., Floyd (Nancy) Betts, Sparta, Robert Betts, Cataract, Michael (Linda) Betts, Sparta; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Esther Squires, Sparta; three brothers, Edward Nauman, Raymond (Gladys) Nauman and Leonard (Dorothy) Nauman of Sparta; brother-in-law, Herman Ripp, Sparta.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, with Rev. Mark Walljasper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, on Thursday, from 6 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8 to 9:45 a.m.
Monty Pischke
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Monty Pischke, 66, of Sun City, Ariz., died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at his home.
He was born in La Crosse, Wis., and moved to Arizona from Wisconsin in 1993. He was a graduate of the U of A in 1964. He was a biochemist at Land O' Lakes, Eau Claire, Wis., for 12 years retiring in 1991. For International Food Technology he received seven patents for research.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Pischke, Sun City, Ariz.; two sons, Michael and James Pischke; a sister, Janice Wroble; brother, Robert Pischke; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Pischke.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. at Crown of Life Lutheran Church, 13131 Spanish Garden Dr., Sun City West, Ariz.
Memorials are preferred to American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th St., Tempe, Ariz., 85282.
