Maurice A. Brown
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Maurice A. Brown, 80, of Black River Falls, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Black River Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday from Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Taylor. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and from 10 a.m. until services Friday at the church.

Mildred B. Finch
BAKERSFIELD, Calif./WYEVILLE, Wis. - Mildred B. Finch, 82, of Bakersfield and formerly of Wyeville, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Castlewood Retirement Center, Bakersfield. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah. Burial will be in Wyeville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, both at the funeral home.

Allene E. `Curly' Schultz
OWEN/CHASEBURG, Wis. - Allene E. ``Curly'' Schultz, 85, of Owen, Wis., and formerly of Chaseburg, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. She was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Ostrander, Minn., to Albert and Anna (Rude) Halling. She married Walter Jon Schultz in Minnesota. The couple operated Schultz's Tavern in Chaseburg for over 40 years. She belonged to the Chaseburg Lioness Club and was a lifelong and very active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Terry (Darlene) of Willard, Wis.; one grandson, Rob (Ann) of Union Grove, Wis.; one granddaughter, Terri of New Berlin; and one great-granddaughter, Carrie and one great-grandson, Michael, both of Union Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1975; four brothers, Lawrence, Elmer, Victor and Rudolph; and one sister, Rosie.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Lyle Schalow will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be held at St. Peter's Church in Chaseburg, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
The Seland Funeral Home, Coon Valley, is assisting the family.

Bernice L. Ness
SPARTA, Wis. - Bernice L. Ness, 82, of Sparta and formerly of La Crosse, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.
Bernice was born in Chetek, Wis., on May 5, 1916, to Lyman and Emma (Sell) Tallman. She married Leslie C. Jerome in 1933 and had four children. The couple later divorced and Bernice married Melvin Ness in 1973. He passed away in 1977.
Bernice is survived by three daughters, Laura Johnson of Sparta, Beverly Gunderson of La Crosse, and Mary Dokkebaken of Holmen; one son, Duane (Myrtle) Jerome of Taylor; two brothers, Lester (Lucy) Tallman of Shasta Lake, Calif., and Ellsworth (Christina) Tallman of Horicon, Wis.
Bernice regretfully leaves behind 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Helen Pederson of La Crosse; and one brother, Bernard Tallman of Onalaska.
Funeral services will be held at the Fossum Funeral Home of Bangor on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at noon. Rev. Jonathan Eastman with the Presbyterian Church, West Salem, will officiate. Family and friends may call at the Fossum Funeral Home in Bangor from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday. Burial will be in the Burns Cemetery.
Bernice was a very special lady to all she knew and touched. She will be sadly missed by many for the compassion, thoughtfulness and devotion that she so willingly offered to her family and friends. May God bless her and keep her safe and warm.

Thomas D. McDonald
VIROQUA, Wis. - Thomas D. McDonald, 64, of RFD 3, Viroqua, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998 at his home. He was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Wonewoc, to Thomas and Pauline (Solchenberger) McDonald. He served in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 29, 1979, he was united in marriage to Emma Wood Lombard. He farmed, and at the same time, was willing to help anyone who needed help. In addition to being a partner in life, he was a partner with his wife in ``Aunt Emma's Bakery''.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, James (Barb) Lombard of Elroy, and John (Donna) Lombard of LaCrosse; five grandchildren, Tammy (David) Hatfield, Tina Lombard, John Lombard, Kevin Lombard, and Kimberly Lombard; one brother, Francis McDonald of Cochrane; one sister, Pat (Jack) Doesher of Wisconsin Dells; one aunt, Madge Walstead of Madison; two nephews, Wayne (Cindy) Doesher and Lee (Robin) Doesher; and one niece, Lynn (Antonio) Lazcano. He was preceded in death by his parents, and aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at 1 p.m. from the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Pastor George Shick will officiate, with burial in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday after noon, both at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby.

Carol V. Widner
VIROQUA/AVALANCHE, Wis. - Carol V. Widner, 83, a resident of Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua, and formerly of Avalanche, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Vernon Manor. She was born on July 20, 1915, in the town of Webster, Vernon County, to Fred and Amelia (Lokken) Widner. She was a lifelong member of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and the Avalanche Ladies Aid. She enjoyed growing flowers and was interested in gardening.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Udulutch of Milwaukee; one sister-in-law, Lucille Widner of Viroqua; two nephews, Larry (Lenore) Widner of Viroqua and Sid (Lisa) Widner of Westby; and three great-nieces and three great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orville and Arnold; one nephew, Fredrick Widner; and one brother-in-law, Ted Udulutch.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. from the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy. 14, Westby. Pastor Paul Jordahl will officiate, with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday after 9:30 a.m., both at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby.

Debbie L. (Olson) Sprecher
BARABOO/WESTBY, Wis. - Debbie L. (Olson) Sprecher, 41, of Baraboo and formerly of Westby, died Sunday evening, Aug. 30, 1998, at University Hospital in Madison, of injuries received in a motorcycle accident. She was born March 28, 1957, to Alden and Beatrice (Stakston) Olson in Viroqua. She graduated from Westby High School in 1975. She worked at various jobs in the Westby and Baraboo areas. Debbie moved to Baraboo in 1982. She was an artistic and talented person who was very giving - a devoted mother, a loving daughter, sister and friend. She was an avid reader; her interests were many. She loved the country, especially animals and gardening.
Survivors include her son, Lucas Sprecher and daughter, Kristen Sprecher; her life partner, Robert Stafford; her parents, Alden and Beatrice Olson of Westby; three brothers, Bruce (Lisa) of Coon Valley, Brian (Sara) of Chaseburg, and Jon (Teresa) of Westby; two sisters, JoAnne Olson (Lisa Quindel) of East Troy, Wis., and Diane Berger of Westby; the father of her children, Scott Sprecher; 11 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. They will all miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Olaf and Mabel Olson; and her maternal grandparents, Philip and Olga Stakston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Jack Mithelman will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Chapel in Coon Valley on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to Debbie's children, Lucas and Kristen.

Adeline Doris Wappler
TOMAH, Wis. - Adeline Doris Wappler, 72, of Tomah, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the Tomah Health Care Center. She was born Feb. 26, 1926, to George and Edna (Sommerfield) Roscovius in the town of Tomah. She was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Wappler on Dec. 12, 1946, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ridgeville. They farmed in the town of Tomah, Valley of Bear Creek, from 1947 to 1992, when they moved to Tomah. Adeline was an active and faithful member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at Indian Creek. She was active in the ladies aid and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Lloyd, she is survived by a son, Robert (Sharon) of Tomah; a daughter, Linda (Dale) Jessie of Cataract; four grandchildren, Emily, Nathan and Garrett Jessie, and Cherryl (Darrel) Chambers; a sister, Beatrice (Rodney) Calkins of Tomah; four sisters-in-law, Florence Roscovius of Tomah, Marcella (Norman) Austin of Tomah, Berness Hartz of Ashland, and Carol Wappler of Onalaska; and a brother-in-law, LaVern (Lillian) of Tomah. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Raymond; and a brother, Roland.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Clifton. Rev. Paul G. Heiderich will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Clifton.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
