VIROQUA, Wis. - Bernadine D. Gavigan, 73, of R.3, Viroqua, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua. Funeral arrangements, tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday in Immanual Lutheran Church, rural Cashton, will be announced by the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Westby.

Curtis J. Bunderson
ALMA CENTER, Wis. - Curtis J. Bunderson, 50, of rural Alma Center, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in his residence. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, in the Jenson-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
Sarah Jane (Padesky) Fellows
Sarah Jane (Padesky) Fellows, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, in the Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse. She was born in La Crosse, Wis., on Sept. 5, 1917 to Jacob J. and Eilein (Burns) padesky. She was united in marriage on July 9, 1955, to Samuel F. Fellows II, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, La Crosse. Sara graduated from Central High School, and attended the University of La Crosse, and WWTC. She was employed by the Padesky Food House.
Sara is survived by her husband Sammuel F. II; one son Samuel F. III (Patty) Fellows of La Crosse; three grandchildren: Samuel F. IV, Tyler Scott, and Sierra Marie; a sister-in-law: Barbara Padesky; and one brother James E. (Virginia) Padesky of Moline, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Elizabeth padesky; and one brother John Padesky.
Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at 11 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 130 Losey Blvd., La Crosse. Rev. Bernard Mc Garty will officiate with burial to be in the Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are requested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Alzheimer's Association, or Aquinas Schools.

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Bertha L. Gates, 91, of Black River Falls, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, in Pine View Nursing Home, Black River Falls. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, in Easton Cemetery, Adams County, Wis. In accordance with Bertha's request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, is serving the family.

TOMAH, Wis. - ``Betty'' Elizabeth Davis Clemmerson, 80, of Tomah, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in her town of Ridgeville home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Wyeville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the White Funeral Home, Tomah; and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.

HATFIELD, Wis. - Irene H. Piotrowski, 78, of Hatfield, died Wednesday Nov. 25, 1998, in her home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Black River Falls. Burial will be on Monday in the St. George Catholic Cemetery, St. George, Minn. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until services. Karen Bishop
WEST ALLIS, Wis./LA CROSSE, Wis. - Karen Bishop of West Allis, Wis. and formerly of La Crosse died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998.
She was born in La Crosse, May 18, 1937, to Oscar (Jet) and Ardell (Nagle) Bjorkman. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and Aquinas High School.
She was the Beloved Mom of Linda (Robert) Pellerino Sr. of Princeton, Wis. Loving Grandma of Robert (Danniele) Pellerino Jr. and Tricia Pellerino. Loving Great-Grandma of Alexander and Veto Pellerino.
She is further survived by her brother, Richard (Carol) Bjorkman of La Crosse; a sister, Jean (Edward) Kern of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Joan of Wisconsin Dells; her Uncle Ed (Elrose) Nagle of La Crosse; and her Aunt Arlene (Walt) Skaife of Prairie du Chien; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, her special friend Donnie Hanson of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, a brother, Don and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Services were held in Milwaukee on Saturday, Nov. 22, 1998. Rev. Marlin Carlson officiated. Private interment at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, Dakota, Minn.
Knowing Karen, you can be sure she is busy making meatballs and lefsa for everyone in heaven while working her crossword puzzles.
We miss you and love you very much, Karen. You will always have a special place in our hearts.
Jerold F. `Jerry' Bendel
Jerold F. ``Jerry'' Bendel, 69, of La Crosse, died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at his home. Jerry was one of triplets born on Dec. 26, 1928, in La Crosse to Arthur and Irene (Blank) Bendel. His brothers died a short time following their birth. Jerry married Mary K. Fried on July 16, 1949, in La Crosse. He had worked at Allis Chalmers of La Crosse for 23 years and following its closing he became employed by G. Heileman Brewery where he worked for 19 years. At the time of his retirement, in 1989, he was their Director of Purchasing.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Cindy (Michael) Anderson of Rochester, Minn. and Sally (Mike) Brenengen of La Crosse and four grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Anderson of Burnsville, Minn., Christopher Anderson of Rochester and Barry and Betsy Brenengen, both of La Crosse. In addition to his two brothers who died in infancy, he was preceded in death by his parents and a third brother, Ralph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph The Workman. The Rev. Anthony J. Wolf will officiate. Entombment will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until departing for the church. There will be a Wake Service on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Gregory Thibodeau
TOWN OF ROME, Wis. - Gregory Thibodeau, 78, of 299 Silbury Court, town of Rome, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Woven Hearts Home in La Crosse.
Funeral service 12 noon Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Plainfield. Rev. Michael Betley and Rev. J. Thomas Finucan will officiate. Burial in Spring Branch Cemetery in the town of Rome.
Mr. Thibodeau was born March 17, 1920, in Coleman, Wis. to Arthur and Jennie (Marcullier) Thibodeau. He married Jeanine Thomson May 20, 1950, the marriage ended in divorce. He married Mary Ticknor Ghiloni on May 31, 1986, in Menomonie, Wis.
In 1938, Greg began his college career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, attending on a football scholarship. He transferred after his sophomore year to UW-Oshkosh where he played football and tennis. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. His tour of duty included jerrying planes between Siberia and Edmonton and flying recognizance missions over the Aleutian Islands.
After the war, Greg worked as a disc jockey and bar manager before accepting a position with the office of Price Administration. When this work was completed in 1947, he moved to Milwaukee to work at Continental Casualty Insurance Company. While working at Continental he attended law school at Marquette University, graduating in 1949. He continued to work at Continental until 1957 when he moved to Wisconsin Rapids to practice law with Leon Schmidt Sr. He built and maintained his practice of law in Wisconsin Rapids for 37 years, retiring in 1994. He also raised a family of six children, all of whom graduated from Assumption High School.
During his professional tenure he served the Red Cross, Wisconsin Rapids Police and Fire Commission, initiated the legal work for the Assumption High School Foundation and organized the first parish council at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish. He also coached football at Assumption for many years as an assistant to Don Penza.
He enjoyed writing and completed his autobiography, including his early years in Coleman. He has blessed his family and friends with a fulfilling lifetime of memories. He was a man with a story to tell.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Thibodeau of town of Rome; six children, Thomas (Priscilla) Thibodeau of La Crosse, Mark (Terri) Thibodeau of town of Rome, Michelle Thibodeau, Jamie (Lisa) Thibodeau of La Crosse, Michael (Liz) Thibodeau of Eau Claire and Janice (Craig) Gerlach of Onalaska; six grandchildren, Nicole, Meghan and Danielle Thibodeau of La Crosse, Ryan and Callie Thibodeau of town of Rome and Jordan Gerlach of Onalaska; two stepsons, Mark (Tracy) Ghiloni of Hudson and Nick (Bobi) Ghiloni of Amherst; three step-grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew and Philip Ghiloni of Hudson; one brother, Tim (Barbara) Marcullier of Florida; and one sister, Eugenie (Joe) Dally of Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark.
Friends may pay their respects at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Plainfield Friday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial will be established in his name at a later date.
